We arrived just before 6 p.m., and to my surprise, it was standing room only. The staff greeted me with familiar smiles, and a waitress asked if I had reservations. I laughed and said, "Oops!" She chuckled and seated us within two minutes. We all looked at each other in awe. "No worries," she said, "you'll be just fine." The restaurant was buzzing with activity. The first thing I noticed was that it was the perfect time to see how the food and service would hold up under pressure. After placing our order with Mina, I realized I was witnessing what could only be described as organized chaos-- the place was packed, yet the staff kept smiling and delivering top-notch service. We ordered a variety of dishes: chicken coconut soup, shrimp Tom Yum soup, crispy duck with Penang curry (my favorite), crab rangoons, shrimp pad Thai, an appetizer sampler, basil fried rice, and Thai tea. Each dish was fantastic, and Mina, our waitress, was amazing. I wasn't the least bit surprised. Since moving here from Florida, Blue Elephant has quickly become my favorite place to indulge my cravings. It was garlicky but not too much and there was a LOT of cheese. We brought home a steak and cheese for my spouse and even though it took a while to get back home with it, it traveled well. There's one table that we could see inside and a few outside, so I'm guessing they do more take-out than eat-in, but it would be worth it to go even if we ended up having to take it home.

That is a little small for me, especially when I'm hungry. After conversing with the gentleman behind the counter about my options, we both agreed I should go with the spicy fried chicken sandwich. I ordered the spicy fried chicken sandwich which comes with homemade fries and their homemade green tea with ginger and mint. My colleague ordered the pork cutlet sandwich and said it was amazing due to the apple chunks on the sandwich. Both were actually daily specials listed on their board to the right of the menu. My sandwich was quite large and spicy with the fresh jalapenos and a spicy sauce. It reminded me of the large chicken sandwich at Longhorn Steakhouse, but this one was even larger and better. The fries are fresh cut which made this meal perfect. This restaurant is truly nothing special from the outside appearance and both my colleague and I even thought it looked closed when we were driving by. He also said he doubts they have any seating, but we were both wrong. Don't doubt yourself about this restaurant. It is a truly hidden gem with some uniquely prepared foods waiting inside. They had limited beverages. I wanted regular iced tea, but ended up with the homemade green tea with mint and ginger which was pretty good, but no free refills. Service was of course excellent. I interacted with the gentleman a couple more times as I knew I'd need a lot more napkins to tackle this food.

The Jalapeño Poppers were a pleasant surprise; I expected an intense heat but was met instead with a refreshing, well-balanced flavor. My only regret was not ordering more. I genuinely love indulging in a great meal, especially during a long work session. I rounded out the evening with two orders of fried shumai, which I happily enjoyed as my dessert -- and they did not disappoint. I will absolutely be ordering from Sakura Ludlow again. I tried the ice cream for the first time today - vanilla soft serve in a waffle bowl with the cheesecake flavor burst - it tasted a bit more like a salted caramel (but that's just me) but I enjoyed anyway. Its been a really long time since I've had soft serve ice cream and Cha's was the perfect place to break that ice cream dry spell.
