Poppi's is such a Eugene institution, and as such it's fine. I've been going for almost 20 years, but rarely find myself excited about the menu or Eagan to share it with visitors. It's adequate, sure. But where it stumbles is being so beholden to tradition. Example: they serve the bread with butter pats. I've asked for a bit of olive oil and balsamic vinegar instead. After some dithering the server agreed to bring oil, but they didn't have any vinegar which seems crazy in a Mediterranean restaurant. Little details like that would elevate and update the experience. Speaking of updates, the Greek moussaka still uses TVP. Like, no one seriously cooks with tvp anymore, it's such a 80's vegetarian cheat. There's a hundred better ways add texture and protein and substance to a vegetarian dish. It just feels so archaic and like the chef/owner can't be bothered to move on from an original concept. Overall it's good food, good service, and great history. It just seems like the owners could do more than just dial it in with the same old same old decade after decade. read more

This place was just amazing! We went for a ladies lunch and had a great experience. Excellent service, the food was delicious and served timely and we just loved the overall atmosphere of the place. We ordered their beef and chicken yiros, as well as the spanakopita. Perfect portions, seasoning, everything! We will definitely be coming back! read more

fantastic little resturant. Quick service and an excellent mix of food. If you're visiting Eugene I strongly suggest giving it a try.

Cute place, but v. disappointing food. Spanakopita: extremely bland, without the salty feta punch or sweet offset of onions; basically it just tasted like overcooked spinach. Hummus: extreme garlic. Everything quite oily. Service nice enough. Maybe will try Indian fare next time instead? read more

I have been dining at Poppi's for over twenty years always friendly staff and consistently excellent food. Go on Sunday night for the Greek Night and get the calamari best in town. read more

This place caught our eye on the way to a different restaurant. They had a menu in the window, which I appreciated. The staff looked warm and friendly and the inside was cozy and rustic. They had a piano player in the back, which was super cool. Who doesn't love live music? Bread was served first, and the meals were delicious. I had the spanikopita (a little less rich than I am used to, but you could tell it was fresh and home made and the sides it came with were a nice addition) and my boyfriend had one of the chicken curries- he loved the flavor. They had quite a few vegetarian options, which was nice. I saw the dessert tray go by and they all looked authentic and tasty! I would definitely recommend this to friends and would love to go back next time I'm in Eugene! read more

I ate dinner here a couple of months ago and meant to write a review sooner but I think it left such a bad taste in my mouth, I am only getting to it now. It didn't help that the whole restaurant was filled with thick smoke from the kitchen for our visit. Because of that, I developed a stomach ache and my lungs were feeling bad before we even got our food. We were really hungry so we put up with it. I had the chicken korma dish. While the sauce was tasty, the dish overall was very plain with just chicken and not a veggie in sight. I would rather order it at an Indian restaurant. The best thing on the table was the fennel (?) bread with butter---locally made and very tasty. Unfortunately, on the drive home I began getting terrible indigestion and heartburn---something I never ever get! It took a couple of days for my system to fully recover....What was in that korma?! I definitely will not be back! I also thought the menu overall was overpriced and the restaurant lacked ambiance--tables too close together and an old feeling/not quite clean. --written by Ed K's wife (he posted a previous review of his food and experience) read more

My partner and I have been eating here for going on 27 years, and it's still one of our favorite restaurants anywhere. Great food, wonderful ambience, and reasonable prices. The eggplant dip is one of the most delicious things you'll ever eat! read more

We live in Eugene and Poppi's is our favorite restaurant. We're there 2-5 times per month. We get excellent meals there and very good, very friendly service. The menu is different, with Greek and Indian specialties, but the food is delicious. My wife likes the halibut, and I love the vindaloo chicken, but warning on that, it's very spicy. If you're not sure about spicy, the korma chicken is just as good but not as spicy. They also have a lot of vegetarian, curries, pita bread varieties, great soups, and a realy good Greek salad. Order the ice tea, it's a dark red hibiscus tea that is really good. There's a special Greek menu on Sunday, and you can try the arni souflaki, a great lamb on skewers with yoghurt sauce and pita bread. Don't let the interesting and somewhat exotic menu give you the wrong idea; the food here is essentially comfort food: fresh, and good for you. read more

A refreshingly, local, ethnic place to eat. The decor and the atmosphere lends itself to an authentic taste of Greek and Indian food. It's reasonably priced with many choices of different dishes using many different types of meat and fish such as lamb, shrimp, chicken and salmon. The appetizers were the best. Give it a try and you won;t be disappointed, it's good and the people are very friendly! read more

I am in love with the Greek menu here, great gyros, dolmas etc. Indian food is also delicious and the waitstaff is always very friendly. Prices are low and the atmosphere is quiet and intimate, one of the best deals in Eugene read more

We came in on a Friday night it was really busy and we had to wait about 10 mins for a table which wasn't bad, it's unfortunate that they don't have much room for you to stand and wait but that's ok it's a really small restaurant. After we got sat down the waitress was really helpful and nice brought us some fennel bread and even though we had to wait awhile for the food it was worth the wait the chicken I had fell off the bone and was so moist id give their food a 5/5, will definitely come back read more

I must admit, Indian and Greek food in the same place got me curious which is why I entered the restaurant on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. The decor is a bit bland. Keep that word "bland" in mind.. I was given a single large bread roll to start off. This must be the "Greek" side of the restaurant? I ordered a Hefeweizen which turned out to be some generic brand I didn't know, but for 3.75, whatever. I ordered the chicken vindaloo and patiently waited for the food whilst listening to the melodic singing(moaning) of the Indian folksy singer in the background. The dish arrived and I was a bit disappointed with the small plate of rice but I chose to focus on the chicken. My disappointment didn't disappear. I probably shouldn't have been surprised that it was bland - eating Indian food at a Greek restaurant. However, the stock underneath was juicy and tasted as I expected it to taste for vindaloo. Dish overall was OK but if you order this make sure to liberally soak your chicken pieces in the juices to get some flavor. I obviously haven't tried any of the Greek food but I would recommend that over Indian. Restaurants that offer multi-cuisines often have a difficult time pulling off both and it seems this was yet another example of that. The quality of the food is something you can make at home. Bland described my experience perfectly, between the decor, service and food. Nothing really stood out. There are times you spend $21 on a single dish and drink and feel it was money well spent. This was not one of those times. When I left, I felt as confused about my experience as I felt trying to interpret that folksy singer... read more

OK Greek food for Eugene. It would struggle in a bigger city because the food lacks sophistication. The food is fresh, good ingredients and some of it is tasty but don't expect to be wowed. The Chutneys would help if there was a decent portion and not nestled next to some chopped fruit and cilantro. Seriously, if they cranked out more chutneys it would be a lot more appealing. 2 stars in a big city. 3 in Eugene because there are not many alternatives. read more

I stopped in for a quick lunch today. I ordered the Yiros and asked about desserts. The woman at the counter was so nice and told me about all the desserts along with recommendations. I couldn't decided between a chocolate ball or rice pudding, and went with the chocolate. My Yiros was ready very quickly and brought to my table. Then the woman brought out the chocolate ball and free sample of the rice pudding! It was so nice and unnecessary of her! The Yiros was amazing, the perfect portion and all the veggies tasted fresh. It was the customer service that is the reason I'm giving 5 stars instead of 4, I will definitely be back! :D read more

I was impressed. So yummy. I have been looking for a great Mediterranean place. I found it. I will return, for sure.

Just ok. The service is slow and somthing to be desired. The food is just ok. Not that special. The wine was good. Probably a one time trip for me. 2 servers 5 tables had to wait. Everything thing just ok. read more

After a movie at the Metro, I walked into this restaurant, thinking this was Turkish. Then I saw the menu with Greek and Indian dishes - how interesting. I had a soup and Greek salad plate. Very tasty. The server was really nice, too. I will go back to tray Indian next time. read more

Very good food in a nice location. Good service all around. Food is somewhere between good and excellent, leaning more towards excellent. Recommended for downtown Eugene dining. read more

We got a recommendation from a friend to find this restaurant, and we're glad we did! Very comfortable atmosphere in this homey eatery. Wine was decent and affordable. Spanakopita plate, with potatoes in a tomato-based sauce, along with carrots and peas, was a great combination, very tasty. I love vegetarian options that are more than just salad. And dessert that melted in your mouth. A delicious meal, at an affordable price, in a lovely setting - this place rocks! read more

It's true, the menu can be a bit confusing because is Greek and Indian, but whoever is in the kitchen knows what he/she is doing. The Indian fare may not be the classical one (they do not serve naan) but if you think of it as Indian with a twist you will not be disappointed. We loved the food and the portions are very satisfying. The service was also excellent. Another awesome thing about this restaurant is that the tables are nicely spaced. It is also quiet enough so one can actually have a conversation. They also serve great beer (local) on tap and they bring you some delicious bread as soon as you sit. Loved this place. read more

Poppis can take the credit for providing a significant portion of my weekly nutritional value. I order a salad with chicken or the special to go about 3x a week (yes they allow you to sub rice for bread if you ask). I can walk out my office and have service with a friendly smile within 5 minutes each time. For the price, it's hard to find healthier take out. The truth is, I feel that I'm getting fresh quality ingredients and heartfelt service. And, if you know service in Eugene - you know these folks deserve kudos for making a genuine effort and recognizing they are in the service industry. I always get a thank-you. The only minus for me is that I don't like to dine in. The decor is dated and it's just not the setting for me. I would love to see the place get updated for 2010. But until then, I'll gladly take full advantage of take out. read more

I really love the Yiros at this place. It's also very appropriately priced. My husband and I usually get an appetizer when we go as well. It's so delicious. We end up going here at least once a month. read more

Went in June 2015. Ordered the Egyptian Moussaka Stew. Got a good-sized plate of rice with, maybe, a 1/4 cup of stew on top for $9.99. The stew, what there was of it, was quite tasty, but the portion was extremely stingy. Eggplant, garbanzos, onion and tomato are not so pricey that one should receive just a tiny dollop. read more

Have come here for years usually every Sunday for Greek night. The last three times I've ordered the lamb it was horrible cuts of tendon and fat. Busted 2 fillings trying to chew it for over an hour. Love all their other food (the gyros is hit or miss on the level of saltiness) so will consider returning but after three times of horrible cuts of meat and having to get my teeth refilled twice it's a far too expensive lesson to learn and I'm not in a rush to repeat this mistake. read more

The best cooked chicken I have ever eaten! Quaint little place with friendly staff and good service.

I have been to this restaurant quite a few times over many years. Took my daughter there last night and was severely disappointed in the service. Three tables were attended to before we were and they came in after us. Yes, it was busy but at a minimum the servers should pay attention to who came in first. And, of course, the other tables got their food before we did. Ordered a glass of wine which I did not receive until I asked a second time. The food was good but the portions were fine on one plate and miserly on the second plate. Zucchini was mushy and tasteless. Server appeared bothered when we said we did not want it boxed. All previous times, there was excellent service and food. Very disappointing last night and will find a restaurant where they appreciate me as a customer. read more

The idea of Greek and Indian cuisine sounded exciting so we dropped in for lunch and had a saag sabji plate and the day's special of aubergine pasta. The saag dish was great, the greens were fresh and tasty and the sides on the platter were delicious too. The aubergine pasta was average, it tasted like regular marinara pasta with aubergine pieces than flavored with aubergine. But overall, the food and service was good and I would go back to try their other dishes. read more

Fun place abuzz with a full house on Tue night in addition to a great jazz/blues piano player. Food was delicious -perfect heat and flavor complexity...but our server was flat. No smile and energy - like we were annoying her. Back up server that brought our drinks and extra dishes was awesome. Kind of a small wine pour. Totally recommend this place and wouldn't let what might have been a bad day for server #1 spoil a recommendation. read more

Love, love, love the gyros plate! Absolutely delicious. I wish I could do a better review, but I'm pretty faithful to the gyros. The greek salad, lassi, and hibiscus mint drink are also seriously yummy. read more

Ambitious menu, but underwhelming performance in the kitchen and on the floor. Our group enjoyed the appetizer ( hummus ), but out of five people at table, only one of us enjoyed the meal. Most were overcooked and served a few minutes apart, making for that awkward " do I start eating or wait " moment at the table. Giving two stars instead of one, because the place was busy that night -- maybe it's better when not jammed, but management should keep an eye on food service and quality at all times. read more

Poppi's has good soup and bread. I like that it is not too salty. After I eat lunch here I always feel like I have had a healthy meal. I like that the soup tastes homemade, like something I would fix (I don't use much salt when cooking). The wait staff is pleasant and attentive. I took one star away because it has a grungy appearance. I think everything (floors, walls, tables, chairs) is so old that they just can't get it to look clean anymore. I feel like the place is cleaned often but it just doesn't show (kind of like sweeping a dirt floor). read more

Went here on a whim and loved it. The service was wonderful, the food was wonderful. Love, love love this place.

What a find! We had the pleasure of having lunch here. Delicious Egyptian Moussaka Stew, Taramasalata, and scrumptious Baklava for desert at the outdoor tables . Joe, our server, was very informative, courteous, and prompt and the food so good. Don't miss it! read more

Food was pretty good. Service was terrible. I went on January 6th with 2 of my friends for one of their birthday dinners. After we sat down the waitress came over to see if we wanted to get anything started. My friend ordered a drink she is used to getting at Greek restaurants and some saganaki. The waitress said we don't have the drink but we have the saganaki, then walked away. After a few minutes the other waiter came to our table to get drink orders, then a few mintues later to get food. We found later that our saganaki order was never placed. After we got our food, we saw our waiter leave. The rest of the night we were served by the waitress. A little communication can go a long way to making us feel more comfortable and not like we are intruding on their restaurant. In the end I felt like we were being rushed out so they could close. We came in and sat down at 8:30 and they closed at 10. We all felt this was sufficient time to eat without straining the staff. This isn't the first time I've been here and received subpar service. It's just happened enough that I felt it was time to say something. I know what I've written here doesn't sound too bad, but being there feeling the atmosphere was what made it much worse. read more
