I am a huge fan of poppa burger I always tell my parents if we can go because I love cruising around Houston Downtown it's my thing but my number one place is poppa burger because the burgers are amazing and the fries are just beautiful the customer service is perfect but these reviews saying they treat them bad or something its probably because you're giving them a bad time or they just don't feel like doing their job but anyways back to the food my dad and I love poppa burger forever. the food is 10/10 you can never go wrong with a poppa burger. read more

There's always somebody Poppa Burger. This place looks sketchy af with several homeless and what seems like gang bangers. They are open 24/7, which adds to it. As for the menu , they do have a lot of options however the patties are extremely thin. They don't have ketchup packets so if you ask for it on your fries, they will just squirt it in the bag. Omg, extremely good fast food burgers and fries! And SO cheap! Awesome view of the skyline, and we really like the window service -- easy to social distance during covid! Fries are as good as McDonald's! And burgers are way better than McDonald's, except eating here means supporting a local business instead of a giant evil corporation :) I won't go to a chain fast food burger place again. They have lots of other stuff that looks good too. The guy in front of us ordered FIVE grilled cheeses, so those must be pretty good! One note of caution: they are CASH ONLY, so be sure you're prepared for that. I imagine that's how they manage to keep the prices so low. read more

Updated: If you are anywhere near this place anytime of day or night and any day or night of the week and you are going to McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's or even Whataburger, you are not only wasting money, but you are also missing out on vast options and great food. Their cordial and efficient service is the best, and the views from the picnic tables are better than most fine dining establishments. They've been doing this in the same location 24/7 since the 1960's. We cannot pass by without stopping for something on their vast menu. Yum! And, light on the wallet, but you have to have cash--no credit cards accepted. That's just them looking out for us and making sure we don't go any further in debt. Several of the reviews on here are about a Pappas no where near this area. This is no chain and it has been in the same place for several decades. Poppa Burgers is a dream, open 24/7. All things fried and terrific burgers at a modern unbelievable price. If you sit facing south on the picnic tables, you get a downtown view that is terrific. Only outdoor seating but under canopy. The guy working the front had the biggest attitude problem. But the corn dogs were good and the egg rolls but the burgers... nope. All in all cheap, you get what you pay for and nothing more. Deciding factor was the burger patty review near bottom. Closed their outdoor seating during covid and implemented important social distancing, only take cash tho and don't wear gloves, around 4 am most night they clean the grills so fried food only around then be warned! The fries are super good, But unless your eating them ASAP ask for ketchup on the side or they'll be soggy before you eat them- this is inconsistent somtimes they give you packets then suddenly poor it all over and ya don't realize till your home but they are super nice about it if you say Some of the staff are super nice and some really a bit short with you, but get the job done. Don't be intimidated by the bars on the window it's not too far from downtown and it's a fairly quite area at night and they work with cash so it's a security thing. but Iv never had a problem with anybody rude, you'll see regulars at all times of the day saying hi to one another. Down side? The "beef" burgers taste pretty bad honestly. As a kid I came here a couple of times and i was sure it was different. It was so disappointing the burger,I didn't finish after the seccond bite. It was a combination of the texture, scent and taste. The bread, sauce and veggies were all fine but the "meat" was very bad more like a cheep low very low budget school mystery meat burger, it was pretty bad tasting. Unfortunately that's the deal breaker for me as that what I wanted a generic good basic burger nothing needed like a wow factor. I'm going to try chicken from here next but so far the burger is a hellll to the no for even my broke student ass. You get what you pay for. The burger didn't have any flavor because of how doughy the buns were. The chili fries on the other hand were good. Maybe not to the majority because, I love me some shitty chili fries. The cheese wasn't overwhelmingly cheesy and the meat was pretty basic in flavor. I've gone here many many many years and well today was the worst, all my burgers were burnt and my fries were old looking and my taco suaves were mainly full of avocado no meat and the avocado was dark green looking and to top this all off the wait to get my food took a 1hr 1/2 long to get and I got the most disgusting food ever . This place is close to my office, so I thought I would give it a try. The location seems a little sketchy & ALL of the windows have bars on them. This only made the location seem worse. I ordered a burger and fries. The employee asked me if I wanted ketsup & they actually just squirted a bunch on my fries. Then, they were all soggy when I got to my office. The burger was OK, but overall, I will probably just go to McDonalds next time as they are only a few blocks away & have a drive thorugh. read more

Poppa Buger is a Houston Northside landmark that serve a unique burger and fries along with a vast menu. Many people that grew up around will tell you these the burgers and fries are worth a drive. I myself and my wife will stop by every chance we get when we are in the area. And now my kids always stop by after a Astros game or concerts. The burgers and shoestring fries are still the same since I was a kid in the early 60's. All I can say is I hope they're still around if I ever have grandkids so I can take them there. read more

I remember coming here after my moms dr appointments. She has diabetes so she wouldn't eat anything till after. I always get grilled cheese, fries and milkshake. I see a lot of comments about it being sketchy, maybe at night I would be concerned but during the day all is good. Also some complain about the ketchup being squirted. I usually don't even eat my fries with ketchup but when I'm here it's the best part. I wish the new comers would give it a chance. Growing up, coming here I guess really changes your perspective. This burger joint is open 24/7 and it is a good alternative to Whataburger or Jack in the Box. Sides include fries (think frozen McDonald's variety), onion rings (again, frozen - no freshly hand dipped here), nachos (plain or with cheese and/or chili). I had a burger with bacon, cheese and jalapenos, and onion rings and a soft drink. It totaled $6. A pretty decent deal. But it wasn't special. You're not sure, exactly, what kind of grease, but you know you want it so you go to Poppa Burgers, where you can get burgers, tacos, shakes, fries, onion rings, and more. Order at the window, and then wait. After you get your food, sit at the picnic tables under the eaves, or take your food home.
