Very good pastry and great sandwiches. We got a bunch of lilikoi, mango, and guava puffs. 3.5 stars. It not too sweet. The shell were a little soft, wished it was served warm. Lilikoi and coconut donut: yummy flavors with sweet and tanginess from the lilikoi. The donuts were light and fluffy the way I like it. The popover sandwich are a must try. It's soft and so much better than bread. It is filling and I could only finish 2/3 but it was so good that I made sure to eat the 1/3 later. Great pricing for a delicious sandwich. I got the ABC: avocado, bacon, chicken. Well balanced flavors between veggies and proteins. The small flavored puffs are a perfect two-bite pastry (3 bites if you are more proper or with a date). I went there in the morning to get my day organized and it was quiet with indoor seating and a perfect spot to read mail and go over e-mails. Popover is a cute unassuming cafe with very good food and beverages. We ordered the popover breakfast sandwich and the ABC sandwich. Both were really good! They're served open faced in the popovers. We also got a matcha latte and golden latte, both with oat milk. The drinks were tasty and next time I want to try out their Hawaiian pour over coffee. It looked really good! We were being extra greedy and also ordered a few of their donuts. They're so pretty, it was hard to resist! The donuts were pretty good. My favorite by far was the coconut lilikoi. Delicious! The lilikoi butter mochi was also good. If you're in the Hilo area, give Popover a visit. You won't be disappointed! If you order the popover alone, it comes with the lilikoi butter. Got to go on a quick trip back home to Hilo last month and was excited to try a few new places that popped up (all my Hilo people know we don't get new places that often lol). We got there on a Saturday around 9:30am or so and the display shelves were looking a little bare; they open early at 6am so I'm assuming we just missed out on some of the good ones but that one was on us haha. We needed something to hold us over until our late lunch later that day and saw the menu for the ABC sandwich: a chicken pesto sandwich with melted cheese, avocado, all the works of lettuce, tomato, onion, and sprouts, topped with crispy pieces of bacon, resting nicely on an airy piece of bread. If I knew it was going to be this good, I probably wouldn't have shared lol. We also ordered a cookies and creme donut to eat while they prepared our sandwich. The topping had good flavor, just a little too sweet, and the donut base was just a little too dry but unfortunately we didn't order any coffee with it to wash it down. Overall, great place, would definitely try to go again but at an earlier time to see what other options they have, solid 4.5! read more

I've never heard of a Popover until trying this place, and what a unique concept it is! A popover is basically a light pastry that isn't too sweet. Popover is known for their popover sandwiches, which uses popovers as the bread. The middle of the popover is hollow and is cut in half and filled with toppings. I ordered the popovers ahead of time online, which was super convenient. My food was ready on time. We ordered the breakfast and bacon chicken pesto flavors. The breakfast one was my favorite because of the seasoned potatoes! Both of them were delicious though and had the perfect ratio of filling to bread. And the popover was delicious, no wonder why their name is Popover! I was drawn in by the colorful donuts and other pastries, so I had to get a box of donuts... even though I came just to pick up my online order of sandwiches. The flavors were unique like the s'mores and fruity pebbles. While the donuts were colorful and appealing to the eye, they were a little on the dry side. I also tried their lilikoi and strawberry puffs. Those were really good. I liked how light they were and the glaze on top was the perfect touch. There is lots of parking and is very spacious inside. I'm not sure what their hours are because Yelp, Google, and their website all say different things. Overall, this is a great place in Hilo. I will definitely be back to try more of their popovers, and maybe even their flatbread. But for now, I will pass on the donuts. read more

This was a perfect stopover for coffee, breakfast or lunch on our way to Hilo. There is a good selection of pastries. We ordered a couple of the scones, donuts and a ruben sandwich and coffee. The scones were ok, a bit too sweet for me. The ruben sandwich was just awesome, bread was soft and flaky, sour krut aded the perfect balance to bacon. I mean there was one other customer in there I guess she had a big order but wished that I asked about the sandwich more and how long the wait was going to be. We returned a few days later after venturing elsewhere on the Big Island, we couldn't get those lillikoi donuts out of our minds - we just had to go back. When we finally arrived, just before closing, we were sad to see the lillikoi had already sold out! The owner (a saint of a woman for her baking alone, but her sweetness makes her even more so!) coyly slipped into the back kitchen and promptly came back out with 2 freshly made lillikoi donuts, baked just for us.
