We tried the biscoff banana bread... oh my it tasted about we week old the edges were hard and dry, and the inside was slightly softer, but still hard. Without knowing we bought about $50 worth of items to give to my doctor that I was seeing in Hilo. After trying the things we got for ourselves I was so ashamed to give it to them, but we didn't have time to buy anything else. Each cookie was five dollars, but they were terrible tasting and we couldn't even finish the other desserts that we got like the other little tarts. We thought maybe you were supposed to microwave the cake but it's covered in a buttercream so I don't think you could microwave it but still I don't know if that would've even saved it. It was so hard and dry. It tasted like something that sat in your fridge open for a week and a size difference between one piece to another was really shocking. One of them filled the entire container while the other was about an inch of space on each side. We have followed this baker and just loved her journey. But this was really really terrible. Please be warned. We were ashamed to give this to people we ended up throwing it away. We did go on a Monday. They were gathering from places like Taiwan , Canada, the continental USA so betcha I wanted to show them only the best! Finding anything outside of downtown Hilo can be a challenge as WIFI gets a little sketch. Baumkuchen Farms is easy to find as they are marked on most Hilo (paper) maps. From the phone calls I made to the first welcome from Danielle who was on site to greet us on our scouting trip we felt welcomed. Danielle met us in the parking lot and guided us to the meeting place of the tour. She gave us a brief overview and showed us the bakery, the bathroom, the gift shop, before escorting us to "the hale" the meeting place under shade. Marcus, proprietor of the Farm with wife Maria, further told us about the rich history of the Baumkuchen estate as well as the products they baked and sold. Loved the tour of the farm where we saw vanilla beans growing in greenhouse, jurassic looking fruit trees and beautiful royal palms. A year later returned with my college friends who were absolutely impressed with the operation. We purchased baumkuchen cake, flavored cooking rock salts, other treats and of course ICE COLD drinks (in fact grabbed a few of these before the tour and after). And we enjoyed the tasty samples. In fact, have since seen these delectable morsels of Baumkuchen at Neiman Marcus in Honolulu at much higher price..! Still, nice to know where I can get more when I run out. Or, will have to take another trip to Hilo and Baumkuchen Farms! Thank you Maria, Marcus, Danielle for your hospitality. My wife asked if we could pre-order the girl said yes. Then she told my wife that it would be better we go there because of a large selection of flavors. My wife ask if they were going to be open on Friday she said yes. Well we went on Friday morning. We entered the parking lot and didn't see any signage. We circled the parking lot. My wife called and was told go to the drive in back of the building. We did and still no signage. My brother-in-law and I got out and started looking for the entrance. My brother-in-law found the entrance. A lady came out and said, since you're here I'll service you. Well the three of us entered the office. She showed us a small cabinet with four packages of Lavosh. Well I picked up three of them. As the lady worked on our receipt a man who was talking to my wife outside came in and gave her a package of lavish. Well the receipt read Hawai'i County Economic Opportunity Council the same as signage that was posted at the entrance of the parking lot. Rainbow Falls Connection is probably the name they use to sell their wares. The bag of broken pieces and whole pieces was the same price eight dollars a bag. As for the taste my wife could pick out the pieces that were lilikoi flavored. The rest that we tried so far were crisp but no decernible flavor.

I asked several Hilo friends, but no one seemed to know where to go for this stuff. Finally, I my Hilo friend asked her sister who pointed her to this spot - and luckily, it was open on Veteran's Day! I loved the feeling of going somewhere not well known, and was thrilled when I finally found the small factory. There were large bags of the various flavors (mango, mac nut, furikake, sweet potato, etc.) and mixed lavosh (which is a nice way to sample various lavosh!). The lavish itself is crispy, light, not too sweet, and so addicting. You can easily eat handfuls without realizing it! It's not the easiest stuff to transport home, but it's unique and will last quite awhile (if you don't eat it too quickly!).
