I'm happy Zippy's Restaurant decided to open in Hilo several years ago because along with them came Napoleon's Bakery. I sure do enjoy a slice of their Lilikoi chiffon cake or a delicious flaky pastry crust Napple turnover. Either an apple or coconut with my Kona coffee!

This review is for malasadas only, but they are amazing!! Hot, fresh, melt in your mouth deliciousness. Worth going into the mall and waiting for them to be made.

Apple pie with equal

I've died and gone to bakery heaven lol. I love love love Napoleon's Bakery specially for their apple pie with equal and pumpkin pie with equal. The only thing that I was a little bummed out about was that this location was so far away from the Kona side and they only had the apple pie with equal and not the pumpkin pie with equal. The price was reasonable at $14 per pie. Overall, I love this chain and will be visiting the Maui location tomorrow :)

So fresh and hot!!!

Malasadas made to order in 6 minutes tops! Doesn't get better than that!! Choose either filled or sugar coated... Or both!! Cream puffs are also super yummy!! Friendly staff, no complaints here!

The pastries are fresh. The malasadas are made to order. A good choice also for the bread pudding.

Service is absolutely the worst in all of Hawaii. Pastries are so so. Certainly not worth putting up with the poor service

We were craving malasadas and decided to try this place. Liked the truck on the side of the road way better than these.

The strawberry mochi is always a favorite but we love the nectarine, pear, and melon ones too. Whatever is in season, I recommend getting! It is worth the price! Order ahead if you can, then you won't have to stand in line. And I always eat these up so fast that I forget to take photos!!

Hubs has a sweet tooth, and I like the sweet mochi myself. The line to place my order was completely empty! All the folks standing around were waiting for their orders. I stepped in the tiny storefront and placed my custom order and then grabbed a tray of buttermochi that was ready to go. After paying, I asked how long was the wait time and the cashier said 20-30 minutes. Instead of standing around, I went back to the car and hung out with BIL and watched for the people who were before me to get their orders and leave. I waited outside for about 5 minutes before they called my name and my mochi order was ready to go. There were some tourists who came by who didn't want to wait for 30 minutes and were ready to turn around and leave, but I told them there were ready made packages that they could grab and go, the rest of us were waiting on custom orders. They were really happy to hear that and they bought their mochi and headed out. I will definitely call ahead next time I go to Hilo, the wait is small kine humbug, but the mochi is oh so ono! (translated: the wait is an inconvenience, but the mochi is very delicious).

Their store is only open on Wed and Sat, so you should definitely plan ahead to visit this store on those days in the morning to have a better selection of bread choices. I tried their Asian Pear foccacia and it was absolutely amazing; pear, honey, and manchego cheese was a perfect harmony of sweet and savory flavors akin to well-balanced charcuterie board. Pane Nudo is a must try in Hilo. Highly recommend their foccacia bread!!!

At the rate people were buying, this house of flour, water, yeast, and salt would be out of bread in no time. We got two focaccia slices: goat cheese roasted pepper basil and an ali'i mushroom garlic. Both were chewy but airy at the same time. The mushroom was spicier than expected requiring bites of the goat cheese slice to cool the palete. The roasted peppers and basil added extra flavors to the richness of the goat cheese. Both were delicious, large slices of bread, and you should absolutely make a stop here, just make sure they're open. And get there early. These Hilo natives love their bread and there may not be much left if you get there late! For those of you familiar with Honolulu's famous Breadshop in Kaimuki, this may be slightly better, but don't take my word for it. Parking in whatever street parking you can find.

Cute little bakery with lots of sweet treats. Went to Short n Sweet on a rainy Hilo day, so the…read moreshop was empty and there were lots of pastry options available. The shop keeper was friendly and patient as I browsed the pastry case. I've always been curious about the Dubai chocolate bar, so I decided to splurge and give it a try. Very pricey at $16 for a 4-5" bar, but it was worth it to try it once. The chocolate was smooth and high quality, the pistachio cream was sweet with a hint of pistachio flavor, and the kataifi was pleasantly crunchy. I would have loved more pistachio flavor, but it was a nice little chocolate treat. Looking forward to trying more things from Short n Sweet in the future. Will definitely be back when I want to treat myself to a gourmet dessert. :)

The sweets are always really good. The crème brûlée is definitely our favorite dessert here! It's light and creamy and just overall delicious! We come here every time we visit and try to get something different but we always seem to revert back to the creme brulee. The staff there has always been really nice. We seem to always get the same lady every time we go and I feel terrible that I haven't gotten her name by now
