DO NOT provide your credit card information to Pool Covers, Inc without a statement in writing that clearly outlines their scope of work. They may tell you that they cannot send a technician to service your pool/pool equipment unless you provide your credit card info. They may also advise you verbally that they will not charge your card for any work that is not pre authorized. They did just that in our case. Take our advice and either require written work preauthorizations or simply go with another company. If you live in the Bay Area, there are at least two other reputable, honest and professional companies that provide high quality work. This is my second time leaving a review for them. I emailed them on 6/29/25 regarding the 2nd issue I am having since I got pool covers in May 2025. Now the issue is pool cover not closing all the way. I had to wait til July 11 for someone to come to my home. No communication about the time frame for tech to come. So I had to take the day off work to accommodate their schedule. How unprofessional to not let me know a time of appointment or a time frame. Instead they expect me to just drop everything and stay home and wait for whatever time the tech comes. Only positive thing is that when they do come they fix the problem. The tech came for an hour to realign and adjust the pool cover and now it's aligned and closed fully , but the process to get someone to the house and the f at it's been 2 issues in such a short period of time is extremely disappointing 2 bad experiences with this company ! 0 Star! read more

3 years ago, we moved into a place that had just put in a new pool with a Pool Covers Inc. cover. The cover generally works well and feels high quality. However, it's broken 3 times in the last 3 years (sticking in the open position), each time requiring a costly service call. All we're doing is opening and closing the pool cover in the summer a few times a week, and once a week for off season pool maintenance. The latest service call (last week) had a 10 day lead time, leaving the pool cover stuck open for the duration. Scheduling is a bit of a mystery, requiring calling or emailing a couple times before an expected date is provided. I'm not sure why I can't get a specific date set with a single call or email. I would expect regular annual maintenance to be helpful to keep the cover working well, but having it stop working completely every year isn't in line with expectations. Positive: when they come for service, they do fix the problem. The cost is straighforward based on time spent, and I remember the technician being friendly the one time we overlapped. read more

It was a last minute decision by us and probably one of the best decisions we made in the avalanche of things that our GC was hitting us with. This is our 5th replacement cover for our 33 year old pool. Each one lasts 4-5 years, and their warranty gives you a pro-rated refund for any time short of 7 years. Fine with basic service. Turned a basic motor replacement into an unreasonably complicated process that is still not resolved after multiple calls and emails. Hoping someone at the company sees this post and responds with new motor dimensions immediately as my electrician can't move the outlet until I know specs. Would have been great if the technician who showed up when I wasn't home could have provided that info on the door tag left. Or the man I was referred to who just said the new motor wouldn't fit after I emailed a picture of the old motor and space available. Incredible waste of time and effort. I tried to schedule routine service. Lady on the phone kept talking over me without answering my questions. She ended up telling me someone will call me to schedule it in the future, I asked why I can't schedule it now and she hung up. I called back and the same lady answered so I asked if she was the one that just hung up on me and she said she didn't know. It was obviously her, I asked for someone else, got put on hold almost 5 minutes, now a different lady was also rude and condescending while trying to explain to me that she can't schedule me now she has to have somebody call me at some random date in the future to schedule. These people feel it's their right to be rude to their customers. Find a different company to do business with. read more

We have a combination pool/spa with an unusual shape so getting the right pool cover was a real challenge. Cheryl did a great job of coordinationg everything (drawings, measurements etc.) while we were not at the residence. We weren't there for the installation either but Thanks to Eric and Alex they coordinated a video which our whole family can use as a guide to securing the cover as well as storing the cover when the "spool" is in use. We own a pool with a diving rock at the end of it. For over a year we had been looking at a way to install a safety/solar cover on it but no other pool company would help us. Jay came out to look at the pool and gave us the good news that it could be done. The work was done quickly for COVID times and the cover is amazing. Automatic roll out with an extra safety flap over the diving rock. Plus the cover came with an amazing bench over it that we use all the time when the pool cover is open. Now we don't lose water from evaporation, the pool doesn't lose heat, and we don't have to worry because the safety cover works great. Also no more leaves in the pool! I called and made an appt to have someone look at my pool cover. The cable seemed to be slipping. It would be $159 for 1st hour. Then $59 thereafter. If the cover was through then price to be used toward. They gave me a full day schedule on a Saturday so I asked if technician could call when they were about an hr out so I could meet up or talk. Luke called 1 hr before he was arriving and said he would call me back once he looked at it. Within the hour he called back and explained what he did which was fix the cable BUT pool cover was shot. I can still use the pool cover so I plan to replace next year. The pool cover sales person is different. He called me and versus having to meet up again he emailed me the quote and online brochure. Their price is pretty standardiZed and to replace it is about $3500. I am asking company when I purchased the last one. I want to see how long I can expect this one will last. The service from call to onsite visit was easy and no issues. Our pool cover was bought from them prior to so I know it will be exactly what I have now. They ask for your credit card before they schedule an appointment. They are not up front about the costs, after sending a technician, they just billed my credit card whatever they wanted without a call to discuss how much it was going to be. You should be up front about costs when you are on the phone with a customer. The technician was out for less then an hour, so I guess they get over 200.00 an hour plus parts. Updating my review because business owner replied to my review and she needs to know the whole situation with her front office. I originally called on April 21, the person on the line took my credit card number. I heard nothing, so called back on April 29, they had "no record" of my previous call, but somehow still had my credit card number. Apparently scheduled an appointment but didn't call to notify me. I called again on May 6 to verify if there was an appointment scheduled and they confirmed an appointment was scheduled for May 8th. Hopefully my pool cover can be fixed. I have been happy with my pool cover and the service over the years....till this year. They "fixed" the rail once but by the next week it was back in n the pool. They came out a month later and "fixed" it again. This time the pool cover was not only back in the water, they cracked two of the decorative stones around the pool above where they were working. They now say they aren't responsible for any damages they do while working at your property. What kind of company doesn't stand by their workmanship? Not a good one. My friends had stopped by on my request after the last repair and took pictures. The pool pump is not on cover, cover filled with water, and holes not patched. The concrete stones that are chipped have been placed on the edge of cover underneath the broken stones. If "all three stones" broke off after cover repaired and the worker left, the stones woUld have fallen downward and more towards the middle of cover with the Inertia from the fall. read more

We did have one good experience some time ago when the company gave us a credit for replacing our cover as it was still under warranty. It had been installed prior to our purchase of the house. So, they called to arrange for a maintenance and cleaning call. It made sense to me. I believe they were up front about the cost, something like $220 for the first hour and some other amount for time after that. So I called to get it scheduled and they said that someone would call me to pick a date and time. A few days later, they just showed up with no advance call to schedule. Fortunately I was home and it was not a problem. The guy was here for a total of 20 minutes, he told me it looked good. And they they billed me for the full $220. Never again without pressing them on the price when they call to do maintenance. read more

We have worked with Pool Covers Inc now since 2000.  Until recently, I would likely have given them a 3-star review.  However, we called two weeks ago because our pool cover (from them) wouldn't open.  They said they would call us in a couple of days with a date when they could come out.  We had to call back, and our date is in mid-August?!?!  Couldn't they at least come out and lock the pool cover open?  (Nope.)  It has been quite hot and we have a pool birthday party for the kids on Sunday.  I just had to send out a note that there will be no pool at the pool party because Pool Covers Inc is that bad.  If anyone can recommend anyone who could come out before that we would HAPPILY switch pool cover providers. Update: After my post here, I received a very kind message from the President explaining the problems they are having hiring and retaining employees and that was the reason for the long delay. They came yesterday and our pool is now open! I have hence upgraded them back to a 3-star. If anyone is looking for a low COVID-risk job, it sounds like they are hiring! read more

I just got a pool cover installed in my brand new pool and I couldn't be happier with the results! By using the cover, the pool stays warmer and there's less water evaporation. Also, keeps the pool cleaner and since I have little puppies, I'm not worried about them accidentally falling in the pool and drowning. My kids are young, and even though they know how to swim,i close the cover and I take away the key that opens and closes the pool cover so I don't have to constantly be checking on the kids going into the pool without an adult being present. Scott K came to adjust the cover so it would close as it should and he was so professional and quick on solving the issue. He also showed me how the mechanism works so it's easier to detect any future issues, if any. I have nothing but good things to say about the company, the owner (which I met when he personally came to my house to take measurements , and got to talk to over the phone too) and all his team are very professional and helpful.
