It was my first time here, I had an appointment scheduled, they had me fill out a form, I then waited only 5 minutes at the most. I was then taken back for a few procedures prior to the eye exam. I was then taken into the exam room. I only waited a few minutes before the eye doctor came in. One of the best eye doctors in town!!!! I had a family friend recommend me Dr. Kieutien Tonnu a while back and I have not stopped coming back for my annual eye exam since. First of all, she is super kind, patient, and understanding and incredibly knowledgable on so many eye conditions. I had a scare where I thought my eye was infected and she gave me a prescription for a quick fix, and BAM it was gone. OFFICE: The office is located in a predominantly Vietnamese plaza and is clean and up to date with such high-tech technology. The front desk staff speak Vietnamese and Spanish fluently and help you in such a kind way. I love LUCIE! She is super helpful and kind and has a great sense of humor. She helped me pick out the best pair of glasses for me. AFFORDABILITY AND INSURANCE: Dr. Tonnu takes all kinds of different insurances including MediCAL and MediCARE. If you are a cash patient like myself, she includes lots of services and discounts because she actually cares about her patients. My family and I have been coming here for years during the good times and during the tough times, when we had insurance when we did not have insurance. The sisters who own and operate this business, Dr Kieu Tien Ton Nu and Lucy, are both professional and compassionate. The personable experience at Pomona Optometry transcends any experience you can get at a franchised business. Not to mention, their pricing here is very affordable. It was time for me to write a re-review here due to a recent incident where I went to a Spa and had an incident that left my sad right eye burning. The morning after the incident, I reached out to Kaiser but all of the Kaisers in southern California could not fit me in... And the ironic thing is that, it would have been more expensive probably. My eye was hurting so much, I knew I needed medical help, so I called Pomona Optometry as soon as they opened and Lucy was super sweet. I told her what happened and she was able to set an appointment for me to consult with Dr Ton Nu that afternoon. I was so grateful. It was just a relief on my mind to have a professional opinion on the matter. I was honestly just praying that they would look at it and clear me of my worries. When I came in, everyone was very caring. I asked if they needed my insurance information, because I don't have my vision care card on-hand. Obviously this was not a planned visit. Lucy reassured me not to worry and it was important that I was seen with or without the insurance. For anyone who does not have insurance, a doctor visit is only $40!! What a steal. That's cheaper than my co-pay with Kaiser so things were really working out for the better. I was led back to the Eye Exam patient room where I explained to Dr. Ton Nu what had happened. Hot water from the facial steam machine SHOT into my eye at a high velocity, and it was originally blurry and the burning sensation and light sensitivity. She examined both eyes. Then she did a "stain" where a special eye-dye was dropped into both eyes, and then she examined my eyes again. She commented that my right eye was EXTREMELY dry and I told her hot I called the Kaiser RN Emergency hot line and I was proactively using over the counter pain medication, eye drops, and cold compress. She said that the over the counter eye drops were not strong enough for my situation. ALSO, there was a burn on my cornea. Ahh!! How scary!! I mentioned how my eye did not look super red YET, and she said the cornea is clear and it becomes red after the infection gets bad. So it would have gotten red and nasty if I did not go see her. Dr. Ton Nu gave me a prescription for antibiotic eye drops to use 4 times a day, and then to come back and see her in 2 weeks. She was super sweet and trying to comfort me. I definitely did the right thing following my instincts, listening to my body and seeking medical help. As I was checking out, I didn't have $40 with me and Lucy told me I can just pay next time. Then I was thinking out loud like uh oh do I have enough cash on hand to fill my prescription next door? Lucy was SOOOOOO NICE. She was like don't worry, just go over there, if you don't have enough we can loan you cash. How nice!! I actually ended up having enough for the $18 eye drops, but the kindness is appreciated. I am definitely coming back for my follow up in 2 weeks. And once my eyes heal, I definitely want to get my annual eye exam and new glasses and contacts. I will take advantage of the 30% off on Designer Frames with your Yelp Check-In! They even have staff who fluent speaks English, Vietnamese and Spanish. I always go back to Dr Kieutien Tonnu for my annual exam. She is so nice to all her patients. This year I decided to get two pair of glasses. I wanted to get a extra pair of my sunglasses, and Lucie was so patient with me. It took me like almost a hour to pick out the perfect pairs for me. Lucie gave me a honest opinion and helped me pick which lenses were the best for me. They had a good price for their patients who want to do extra pair of glasses. I just finished seeing the eye doctor and she was so wonderful. But her helper is so completely rude she's Mexican American she wears glasses she had to help me before I got to see the doctor in the whole time she's huffing and puffing. And just treating me bad. Which made me feel bad because I'm also Mexican American. And when she noticed I was going to pick up my frames and put it on hold so I can pick up my credit card at home she started huffing and puffing and threw my paper at me with my prescription. This office definitely gets 5 stars. Most efficient and friendliest optometry office I'll ever expect to go to. The front office is run incredibly well. You're treated much more like a friend as the administrator sets you up and handles your paper work rather than another box for a bureaucrat to check off. The great service continues as the assistant quickly runs her preliminary tests and gets you seated in front of the optometrist who is professional, nice, and thorough. I went here on a suggestion from my husbands coworker. They are a small shop. They had ALOT of selections for mens and womens frames. Most of the frames start at $30. Lucy was the one who helped my pick out frames. Super cute and AFFORDABLE! Glasses usually cost me $150 or better, but I got frames, lenses, eye exam for a total of $18!!! (After $150 insurance).
