The doctors at San Dimas Costco Hofacre Optometric are excellent. Friendly, professional and thorough for the many years I've been coming here. I just wish this was the case for the front office staff and billing. I get the feeling I'm bothering the staff anytime I step in the office and I've been overcharged for my co-pay three years in a row now. This last visit, I was required to pay $90 up front and file my own claim. I'm ok with doing this, but found that Hofacre overcharged me $25 for the visit when I heard back from the insurance. So, it's back to Hofacre, again, to ask for a refund of the overpay and wait for the check to arrive. This is just so unnecessary, when a 2 minute check of the patient's insurance could prevent all the run around. Update: Learn from my mistake (Hofacre will not refund the overpay, because I "agreed to pay the $90") and make sure to call Hofacre before you visit and make sure they are "in network" with your insurance company. My advice is to have something in writing that shows your co-pay amount and pay no more than this. Or, better yet, find another place to get your eye exams done, like I'm going to do. read more

Today I went to Hofacre Optometric, it is inside Costco at 13111 Peyton Drive, Chino Hills. The check-in process was seamless and the reception staff (Debbie) was professional. She helped me and explained to me all the different test will be done on my eyes in plain simple English and always willing to answer all my questions and concerns. Dr. Chapman was excellent. The eye exam was very thorough and she was very patient when I hesitate a lot of time on which lens are better. I didn't feel rushed at all and her expertise gave me great confidence in my new prescription. I highly recommend this location for anyone looking for professional sevice. read more

I go to the Costco location in Chino Hills about once a year to get an eye exam, and really like Dr. Emily Wenzler-Chapman. She is very thorough, friendly, and has a fun personality. She does a great job. It is around $140 (without insurance) for a visit if you also include the optional digital image wellness exam, and less if you don't. I include the optional exam because it's quick and easy, and can show even the tiniest changes to my eyes. read more

I came in today for my eye exam and when I was about to pay for my copay they want overcharge me which is $30 and I told them my copay is only $10 and the lady in front told me to call my insurance and i told her i did call my insurance . And i give my insurance a call today and i was not supposed to pay any copay . And after finding out about that I give a call the office and as far as understand they will give my insurance a call for my copay. So basically they did not even call my insurance to make sure how much my copay. Thats really sucks overcharging people for copay. read more

Six visits to San Dimas location, four prescriptions and I ended up with the same 3 year old prescription (TWICE) that I came in to update in the first place. 1st visit, got a prescription for contacts and glasses, went next door to Costco optical and ordered 6 boxes of contacts, new glasses and sun glasses. Received the contacts first and compared them to my old prescription at home and they were the SAME. Called Hofacre and they told me to come back in. 2nd visit, re-exam and a different prescription, so everything that I had ordered was WRONG. They ordered a new "trial pair" pair of contacts. Glasses came in to costco and had to go back because of the NEW prescription. 3rd visit, picked up 2nd prescription "trials". They were much worse than my 3 year old prescription. 4th visit, 3rd prescription. Re-ordered glasses at costco and waited for new "trial contacts". 5th visit, picked up new trials. One side worked the other was awful. Picked up 3rd set of glasses at costco. 6th visit, left eye prescription was changed AGAIN (3rd time). Went to costco to change prescription and while waiting for over a 1/2 hour, looked over all of the paperwork to find that I was right back at my 3 year old prescription (same as visit #1) which still wasn't great. In summary, I spent many hours and $300 on glasses that are not even the same prescription that I received today. Again, not great, but at least I can read, however not as well as I could with my OLD pairs. I'm done. $700+ down the drain. I'll probably donate the glasses to the Lions Club, use up these contacts then go to vision works or lenscrafters for a new prescription. Unbelievable. Lesson learned... read more

I've been coming here for a few years. Recently Dr. Jennifer Huang has been helping us. She is very thorough, kind, and super intelligent and intuitive. She has a lot of patience and really listens. I highly recommend Hofacre Optometry. I recently got new prescription contacts and glasses. I can see perfectly. My mom tried her new prescription and decided it was a little too strong for her. She went back to see Dr. Jennifer Huang and she reviewed the prescription and did more tests. She determined she would lower the prescription just a bit. She was excellent. I have been coming here for years and love how flexible everyone is. The assistants are super friendly and have always helped me with everything. Especially Donovan is so nice and took his time to get to know me. He is very informative and I appreciate his help. Debbie did my pre-exam process and was fast and good at what she does. Dr. Paul Hill was my optometrist and went above and beyond because he explained my dry eye to me. He also gave me great information about how I can better take care of my eyes and explained it well. Great service and my exam was pretty quick! The regular prescription exams are currently $80 each without insurance, and the eye wellness exam is $40. Contact lenses cost extra. They do sell frames outside the main office, but they have a separate staff to answer questions. The front desk receptionist was friendly, and Dr. Shih was professional. I booked an appointment in person a week prior. I would recommend booking appointments either in person or through a phone call because they take a while to get back to you if it's done online. My appointment was at 11:15 and was checked in at 11:20. They do send email reminders about coming in annually, which I do like because these exams would ensure that my eyes stay healthy. My husband has been going for a long time (2009) Since 2018 he's been brushed off and told allergies then dry eye and poor hygiene. I think her scope of practice is limited. We found husband has floppy eye syndrome after seeking out a new provider after 3 misdiagnosis over the last 3 years and never sending him out to a specialist. If you can't seem to get to the bottom of your issues it's probably because she's just an optometrist and not an Optamologist. Update. After you tooted your horn instead of asking who helped us and why we couldn't get an accurate diagnosis shows that our choice of going elsewhere was best. I said what I said and thats what it is. An optometrist is not Optamologist. You are limited. Boasting of being on the cutting edge holds no value if you can't diagnose correctly over 3 years. read more

She was able to help relieve my dry eyes and cure my husbands debilitating headaches with a new prescription . Before seeing Dr HofAcre i resided to the fact I thought I would always be uncomfortable in my contact lenses and needed to wear glasses . I've been going to Dr. Hofacre for years!! She is fantastic. It is very easy to get an appt with her and she's very approachable. I wanted to do lasix for years and she kept checking to when I would be eligible and when I was financially ready, she let me know right away! She even referred me to NVision where I got my lasix done. I did all of my follow up care with her after the procedure and I'm glad to say that I am now 20/15! I came in because i felt like there was something in my eye and wanted to get it checked out. The front desk person told me that I just needed to get an exam (contacts or glasses) and they will check to see what was wrong with my eye. I chose to get the glasses exam done but when they found out I had an eye infection, they charged me extra on top of the glasses exam. It would have been nice to know before hand since I didn't need a glasses exam at that time. I came in for a week follow-up and it was a different doctor who saw me and told me that the infection was not resolved yet but to continue doing what I was doing and come back if there were any problems. He also mentioned that I should have followed-up with the same doctor (my fault since I was busy on the other days) since Dr. Hofacre didn't draw pictures so he's not really sure how bad it was before? My experience wasn't horrible.. the staff and the doctors were all very pleasant. I've called twice since to get my prescription and then to request records and both times the staff have been very efficient in getting that information out quickly. It just would've been nice to have a heads up about the extra charge and/or accurate information about what exam to get and drawn pictures so the other optometrist (and future optometrists) would be able to get an idea of what was going on. read more

Great place at great prices. I've been coming to this location since I was a kid. Everything is convenient whether it is waiting times, food (costco pizza is nearby) and getting the correct prescription. Parking is costco parking and the location is located inside costco so everything is convenient. Get your shopping done while you wait. They always give the correct prescription and the Doctor Hofacre is very friendly and professional. The Clerk in the front is very kind and helpful as well. We got in and out quickly with accurate service. I would reccomend this place to everyone since the prices are good, the accuracy of the prescription is correct, the wait time is quick, and they have very friendly service. I will continue going here until my eyes pop out. :) read more
