Amazing chicken! Always fresh and great desserts

Good lunch. Ordered the half chicken with rice, beans and tortillas. The chicken was good. I felt like I was back in rural south texas. The beans were great and the rice was just ok. Overall, good meal for $7. read more

This place is delicioso! It's in the hood, but worth the drive. Get the whole chicken meal deal, which comes with corn tortillas, rice, beans, red salsa (mild) and green sauce (hot). The rub on this pollo asado is fantastic. It's not spicy and it's full of flavor. My whole family enjoys eating this, even my two year old. And the best part is that it's less than$15 for all of that! read more

This place is called Pollo Regio. Perfect place to pick up a whole chicken or a single meal. The fajitas, barbacoa, and chicken are to die for. The chicken is equally as good! Not too expensive either. read more

El Regio is awesome--incredibly good pollo asado at a good price. The "pollo entero" easily feeds 2+ and runs around $13. The pollo asado is tender and juicy and smokey and seasoned perfectly. The spicy green sauce is amazing. The quality of the sides of rice and beans are somewhat lackluster, but given the price and the deliciousness of the chicken, it's totally forgivable. This is an "order at the window" to-go place, without seating (as far as I know). No one working there speaks a word of English, but my very limited vocabulary of Spanish nouns gets me through. Their menus is very basic, posted to the wall, and has pictures, so you can point to it when ordering if needed. Good chicken in the '23. read more

This is the one place my husband and I can always agree on. If you're married, you know how freaking annoying it is trying to decide where to eat dinner on Saturday night. We can always suggest El Regio with a smile and glimmer of hope in our eyes that we are about to feast on pure carnivorous delights. If I could marry El Regio, I would. (Sorry honey, but if it were female, you would marry her, too.) The chicken is just amazing. The spices, the grill taste, the tenderness. I really feel like it's something each person in Austin should experience once in their lifetime. The price is great (especially nowadays, food is expensive!) and the no-frills approach to great food is what we love most. read more

Talk about a gold mine hole in the wall!!!! Chicken soooo good you'll scare yourself with all the smackin' and finger lickin' you'll be doing. Inexpensive and enough food to satisfy your hunger pains for at least 2 meals. A friend brought me here and said I'd love it. He was right and then some! I wish it were closer to where I lived or work because I'd be here more often...hmmm, maybe the distance is a good thing, or I might start to cluck. lol Go get some and you are sure to be pleasantly surprised and satisfied! read more

This is a place where you order at the window and pick up. I have to confess I've only had the beans. We ordered them as a "vegetarian" offering for our rehearsal dinner but lo and behold, there were huge hunks of ham in them. Lots of leftovers. We froze them and ate them for weeks. We were both very happy! I hear the chicken is delish. PS If you're going to try and order something ahead of time by phone, you better know Spanish. I should know enough Spanish but finally had to order in person after trying to call three times (just what you should be doing right before your rehearsal dinner! Standing in line at El Regio!). :) read more

This was some very good chicken. The flavor it's got going on is great. That said, the breast was definitely dry so it could be better. The charro beans were almost closer to chili that beans and very tasty. The rice is competently done, if unremarkable. The salsa verde is fantastic and next time I'll ask for two of those and skip the salsa roja. As others have said, this is just a window in the side of a building and exiting the parking lot can be tricky when lots of people are arriving. I got a half-chicken dinner (half a chicken, two salsas, tortillas, beans, rice, and half an onion) and it was $9.25 after tax. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed my food. The flavor of the half chicken was great along with the rice and beans. The flautas were great with the salsas... Even with the line the turn around time from order to receiving our food was great. Will definitely be back and soon! read more

"Poultry in Motion" El Regio is a beautiful concept. A quick, delicious, roasted chicken dinner with a full compliment of sides that can feed 2+ people for $12.00. On a good day they can get you your meal before you're even handed your change. Bueno! read more

Seriously, can you beat a whole, roasted chicken, rice, beans, tortillas, avocado/habenero salsa, roasted onions and limes for $12? And live chickens from the house across the street strolling around in front of the joint?? I didn't think so. read more

This is the best quick chicken dinner on the North East side. For $12 you get a full chicken that is fresh off the grill, side of rice and beans. My only complaint was the corn tortillas had a hard edge, thought i was going to break my tooth but got over it quickly...ripped it off and kept eating. Some might find the rice and beans a little bland but they were perfect for my kiddos, which is a bonus. My husband chopped up the rest of the chicken and added it to the beans the next day for a single serving bean soup. It's a small walk up place. It's quick and they take credit cards. Love that! read more

My office is about a mile or so from this place and it is by far one of the best deals around for lunch. The half chicken meal is $7 and the carne asada plate is $8 (tax included) and one hell of a big meal. Average people could get two meals out of these, but I don't leave leftovers when it comes to food this good! I know a lot of people aren't big on the carne asada because the way Regio makes it can be a little dry. The meat has awesome char grilled flavor and douse it down with some green salsa and pico de gallo, perfect. One of my favorites! The green salsa is simply awesome. If you like it spicy, this will definately hit the spot. The red salsa, well I never bothered tasting it. I go straight to the green! If you haven't been here, go. It's so worth it. read more

This place is phenomenal. If the reviews and stars aren't any indication, don't let the ratty exterior fool you. This hole in the wall is definitely a diamond in the rough. The creamy avocado salsa verde is out of this world, and the moist, charred-just-so chicken is to die for. The only downside I can think of is that the tortillas are clearly store-bought and are rather mediocre, but that definitely doesn't detract enough for me to lower the score. If you've got a friend, go for the polla entera! A whole chicken, whole roasted onion, a mess of tortillas, rice, limes, and their unbelievably delicious beans and rice for around $14. Unbeatable. read more

Okay if you are looking for the best chicken taco makings in town it has to be this place. I know it may look shady but this is it, this is all they do. They make this roasted chicken that will knock you on your butay! They package it up for you, you take it home and observe the items they have left you. 1. Darn good pollo 2. cooked onion 3. this ultra tasty can't get enough of it verde burn your eyebrow hot salsa 4. cut limes 5. salt 6. last but not least corn tortillas use all of these items and have with a beer of choice and you are dining Oaxacan style. You can't beat the price either!! Enjoy read more

When I eat El Regio it transports me to magical places. Do yourself a favor and go. I have a plan to buy the #1 and pass it off to my boyfriend as if I made it myself , b/c this could be the new engagement chicken. * also, although its not on the menu they can give you a combo that is 1/2 a chicken. its about $7 and you get the same as what you get in the #1 combo. read more

What else to say? Pollo Entero = victory. Dinner for 2 in a greasy bag for 13 bucks. The taco and burrito options are cheap and good, but if you go late in the evening, they only have the pollo entero. I guess they only rip apart so many chickens during the day, and when they run out of shredded chicken meat, no more tacos for you! They don't really speak English, but this is all you need to know: "Pollo entero, por favor." Then hand them a $20 or a card. Pronunciation Help: "Poi-yo en-tare-oh, pore fah-vore" read more

I love this place. My boyfriend and I discovered it thanks to Yelp, and while it's not the most romantic spot to eat, the food is delicious and convenient every time. Everything on the menu is good. Make sure you're really hungry when you go because the portions are large, but not large enough to share. (Maybe I'm just selfish, but no one's getting part of my chicken tostada OR the green sauce.) Just a heads up, there's no dining room here. Basically you stand in a dirty parking lot and wait for your food. I always take advantage of the attached gas station and go buy a diet coke and some candy for dessert. Thanks, Yelpers, for helping me find another great hole in the wall! read more

Do you want a Chicken tostada? Get one here. It does what it says it will do. Chicken? check - a metric bus load. Tostada? check - rammed with chicken and some guacamole. Unidentifiable green spicy sauce? check. Quite dry without it, so slather it on. Result? Tingly mouth satisfaction. read more

I've been coming here for almost 10 years. This is absolutely the best charcoal grilled chicken around. Good prices too

Sketchy, shady, however you want to call the outskirts of the barred cantina is appropriate, but delicious and cheap is how I can best describe it. It helps to speak a little Spanish, but I had no difficulty ordering. Great food. Great prices. read more

Someday the spicy green sauce and I will be married. We live within a mile of this place. I drove by it for years. Concurrenlty, I daydreamed, "man, it would be cool if there was some really delicious pollo asado near me." I assumed this place was just another taco truck. Eventually the gas station expanded their building, the truck was gone, and El Regio had a permanent walk up window. And I finally googled "Pollo Asado" in Austin and figured out I lived near some of the best. I've never tried anything other than their roasted chicken. I brought some to a pot-luck recently and had at least half a dozen people ask me where the chicken came from. It's amazingly good. I can get 1 1/2 chickens, with rice, beans and tortillas, for exaclty $20. GREAT fast, easy, non-fried take out dinner for the fam. The kids LOVE it. And the green salsa? I think it might be my favorite substance in the world. I LOVE it. LOVE it. LOVE IT. read more

It's true that this place is not much to look at, and it would be nice if there was some seating available, but the food is so good that I can't help but give them five stars. I usually get the whole chicken combo. Everything included is amazing. Sometimes I'll get a chicken taco or a tostada. They are fantastic as well. I've had the beef taco and it was very good, but for me this place is all about the chicken. I highly recommend! read more

Three? Or four stars? Three? I GUESS "I'm a fan," but not a fanatic fan. It's good. It's really good. But I just don't see 5 star good. The chicken is all cut up - kind of a drag for me. I like to be able to buy it whole or by halves instead of always getting quarters thrown together. The charro beans are all right, the rice is OK. But nothing special. The tortillas are OK, but not awesome. The green sauce is really good - or has been each time. But it's often just a little different than the time before, and sometimes it's better than other times. The flavor of the grilling is really good, and they're nice small flavorful birds. Tasty! (But don't forget to be sure to get lots of the hot green sauce.) And the value? Good, but not crazy good. Just all right. Though the price per whole chicken looks OK, they are universally really small chickens. Anyway, it's really good. read more

I love this place. Probably the most underrated chicken joints in town. If you are making something that requires shredded chicken, dude!, this is the place to get it. Chicken noodle soup, casseroles, or just some good ole tacos, this chicken doesn't disappoint. Hands down you won't find a better deal for a whole roasted chicken and town and the flavor can't be beaten. read more

With the current cold and raining weather we've been having, I needed some good comfort food. Stopped at this gem and got chicken noodle soup. I've gone plenty of times for the chicken which is amazing and to keep up with my expectations, the soup did not disappoint. It hot, had a great amount of chicken and broth to do my soul just right. To add just a bit more perfection, the soup was accompanied with fresh tortillas, rice, and limes. The location is walk up and you take your food to go. Not a problem! The service was quick and the lady was friendly. read more

After a long day of grad school I decided the only thing I wanted more than the ability to set my books on fire was Mexican food. This place was open and the reviews looked good, so I trundled on over. Pros: Most delicious chicken I've eaten in Austin. Incredibly delicious, albeit dry at times. The beans were yummy too. Green sauce = A+, red sauce = B. Cons: Since I walked up around 9:30, they were only serving whole or half chickens, and they were out of rice. (They gave me like nine tubs of beans to make up for it.) I also don't know how they calculated the cost of my chicken, and it ended up being around $8 for a meal that largely consisted of beans. So that happened. I'll definitely be back during the day to see if they have more variety; the chicken was worth it. read more

Such a deal for hot, flavorful and simple food. One of the best ways to feed the whole family for under $20. We pull the chicken meat off the bone and make a pile of tacos with the green salsa on top. The side orders are small order extra extra beans. read more

This place is called Pollo Regio. Perfect place to pick up a whole chicken or a single meal. Grilled perfection, moist and juicy. Salsas are spicy, warm tortillas, great charro beans. Usually pretty fast. There's no place to sit so grab and go. read more

love this place!!!! too bad they don't have one in "FOODIE" Cedar Park/Leander...!!! What else can one say??? BEST Value for their food!!!

Inexpensive family meals...2 roasted chickens with lots of sides. Salsas are fresh and some really hot. I've used the left over chicken to make chicken soup which was fab. Great value and options for a larger family. read more

I loooove driving past this lil chicken joint on my rides home from work! The smells alone beg you to stop by. Its the simplicity of the meal really. Chicken, beans, rice, grilled onion, lime slices and oh that green sauce. They sell beef too, but who cares?!? I love my neighborhood and love that i can get this kind of meal without all the hipster hoopla. I promise it won't dissapoint. read more

You can't beat the half chicken. The price comes to $7 total and is awesome! You get a stack of corn tortillas, half a delicious chicken, green sauce, red salsa (weakests part of the meal, you can taste the canned tomato flavor) a grilled onion, lime, good beans and good rice. It could feed two people, and still have some left overs. I reccomend getting two half chickens rather than a whole, so you get double the sides. It's also bagged and ready to go, super fast. super cheap. read more

Jeez Louise! This chicken is so delicious...Imma go broke because this place is right near my workplace. I literally used a corn tortilla as a napkin the other day! Could not risk wasting the delicious flavor on a friggin napkin. Yeah it's in a sketchy hood...but I'll risk it in the name of deliciousity! read more

So I now know why everyone orders the chicken and not the carne asada. It is SO dry and hard. I literally wasn't able to chew it to a swallowable bite. I was craving red meat so I ignored all the reviews. Do not make my mistake, people. read more
