So... Now that I've been here quite a few times, I feel obligated to throw my two cents into the hat. But first, a brief history lesson. My first time here I noticed a few things right off the bat. The interior is small. Like really small, and at the time, would only seat about 10 or 12 peeps at a few small tables along the wall. There was, (take note of the past tense), some additional seating along the front window, which, for God only knows why, they have since removed. That fact alone keeps me in the "take-out" only mode, as there never seems to be any available seating in the joint at lunchtime. The business is located in a tiny a$$ "strip mall" of sorts, with about 5 or 6 other businesses and the parking is very, very, limited. As for the poke, well, the poke itself is great. Always fresh, always tasty and a multitude of flavors are available. But my favorite poke just so happens to be the "spicy mayo". I usually get the "signature poke bowl". Comes with a generous amount of poke, (with an ever so subtle hint of spice), that absolutely smothers a bed of perfectly steamed, (and seasoned), white rice. Yummy to the third power!!! The "sweet and spicy" is not a bad option either tho... The prices are decent and the service is always friendly. read more

This is a great mom and pop shop. They have a great selection here! Their poke flavors are really good and they are very quick to make your order. 4/5 times you will get good cuts of meat! Occasionally you might get something that smells more on the fishy side/be brown in color. Plus: one of the only places you can get poke before 11am. I ordered the Kaili Combo. It came with adobo (which I thought was Filipino) and a side of poke. The chicken was meaty and not too salty (good taste!) and the I tried Spicy Mayo Poke. They have a variety of probably 6-9 choices that I didn't count. I'm always afraid of eating poke that has been sitting out in a fridge, but this was tasted fresh. I do wish I had more rice tho! I work down the street by the oil refineries and this spot is definitely my go-to every lunch as it is a prime location for my area as it is lacking good food places. I usually order the traditional Filipino food, Sweet longanisa. It comes with either white or brown rice and your choice of 2 eggs. Would definitely recommend if you wanna eat oily soulfood -- the Filipino way. I also get Poke bowl if I'm feeling healthy. They have variety of choices, but my go-to is the Hawaiian Limo over brown rice. Oh, don't forget their Spam Musubi that they make daily. On top of that, the staff is really friendly! Okay, I was so lucky to find this right off the highway. Poke craving SATISFIED. He was kind enough to allow me to sample all of the options before placing my order. All delicious. I felt bad ... This was my first time here and with my internship in Long Beach, I had them bookmarked and finally got a chance to check it out. This small hole in the wall serves pretty authentic poke. I was greeted with happy smiles by a man and woman, the latter who helped me choose. She was very generous with the samples and I have to say, they were all pretty good! Some were a little heavy on the sauce but the ahi was fresh and cut in large chunks. It was so hard to choose which one to buy because I had to limit myself to one poke and a small portion. The wasabi was prevalent for that flavor as well as the fresh ginger. The limu was also delicious and was a thinner sauce, which I liked as well. The kimchee could have been stronger and same with the sweet&spicy. Because I only wanted a little bit (to pair with my salad at home), I only got $2.97 worth. I felt really bad and ended up tipping them another $2. Will be back to try the lau lau. read more

Every time I come down to Long Beach, I find myself craving the poke here. It is authentic, just like I found in Hawaii a decade ago. It's not like the other poke places that keep popping up but their fish isn't well marinated. They marinate their fresh fish deliciously here and you don't need one of 2 dozen sides to make it tasty. I always see this Poke joint on the way to work. And I was a little hesitant to try a Poke place in Long Beach after my one failed experience. But I ended up giving it a go, since I've heard a lot of good things about Poke Etc... and I'm glad I did. The lady that assisted me was really friendly. Quick background story: I'm a kitchen supervisor of an establishment with a capacity of almost 700 patrons that made over $1 million in sales for the month of August so I kinda know my way around food Anyway.. I used to love this place until this lady became in charge of the front. I was about to place a takeout order through yelp since they apparently do take-out as it states on their page but decided to call in instead. A lady picked up and I ordered 1 sweet Longanisa breakfast and 1 illocano Longanisa breakfast along with a salmon bowl. She then asks me how long I would take to arrive and I said 5-10 minutes since it's literally less than a mile away from my residence. She then says that she'll start firing my order when I arrive. If this was the case, then why would take-out even be an option? Why even take my order if you won't start cooking it until I get to you? I stated that to the lady on the phone and she started justifying her actions by telling me that someone called in yesterday for take out and never came. Very unprofessional and unnecessary. Did I really need to know that? I just need to know if you can do call in take outs or not. Okay again so why would you even take my order down if you're not gonna start cooking it? Why even waste my breath? I told her I'm a regular for their poke so she asks for my name and number and I thought we were good. When I arrive, she then keeps giving me reasons on why she wasn't sure about putting in my order to start and trying to get me to understand which was so uneccessary. I then pay and even buy a seaweed salad as well. I get home and I kill the salmon bowl. I check out the Longanisa plates and both we're stale, overcooked and almost burnt to a crisp. The call was getting cut off so it was hard to understand and it hung up. They call me back and I tell her the problem she offers to make this right and offers me a replacement. When I get back, I show them the food and instead of redoing my food, they give me a refund which is totally fine even though it was the total opposite of what she stated. But then she states that this is how they prepare their food and it's supposed to look like that. What really took me over the top was when she then repeatedly said, " if you say you're a regular like you said, you'd know that. " Are you implying that I'm a liar? I was appalled at choice of words. Whatever happened to THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT? I tried to keep it cool and I did. By the way, both of them brought up the fact that we're all filipino and we're all just trying to work and this and that. There's this unspoken filipino rule that we're supposed understand each other and take care of each other a little more extra than others when we're abroad. Even if that wasn't their intentions or implications, they made me feel as if ethnicity was a conflict of interest which is discriminatory. I told them two to three times that race/ethnicity has nothing to do with this issue and I just wanted them to make this right but instead, they didn't replace my food like they said they would, and I was literally attacked of my credibility of my statements when I said I was a regular. Like really? I seldomly do yelp reviews but when I do make them, it's usually because I had a very bad experience. This place has very unprofessional and had unethical practices. Once again, Yelp saves the day! My family and I went to the Queen Mary for the day and when we were ready for dinner we consulted Yelp when Poke Etc popped up. What I loved about Poke Etc is the wonderful service and the top-notch poke. It's not the trendy poke that everyone serves nowadays, aka tiny scoops of fish and an overabundance of veggies and non-poke fixings covering the bowl. This is the way I prefer my poke: big chunks of marinated fish served simply over a bowl of steamed rice and a generous sprinkling of furikake. I had the limu bowl and it was absolutely wonderful. There are also Hawaiian items on the menu, including breakfast favorites like Spam and eggs, corned beef, and lolo moco. They even had Ilocano longanisa, which was a nice surprise. We later learned that food writer Clarissa Wei had this place on her recommended poke spots in L.A. Definitely worth it! read more

Everytime I come here the fish is fresh and the rice is freshly cooked. I've become fixated on the Basic Spicy Poke. It gives a kick in heat but not too much to cloak the flavors of the ahi. With all this poke hype business buzzing these days it's hard to find a poke spot that is not designed after a Subway Sandwich assembly line that makes their business mixing ingredients I call "distractors" with the main ingredient of POKE. Look no further, Poke Etc. is here for you as they have been for me. This here is their third and newest location. Poke Etc is better than other poke restaurants, because why? Because they also serve hot plates. Pacific Islander grub like loco moco, chicken katsu curry, or chicken adobo (to name a few). Magical touch is the umami dust of furikake they sprinkle on the rice. They also serve breakfast all day! Choices include: Portuguese sausage with eggs, corned hash with rice, pork tocino, and my favorite, longsanisa (Filipino sausage) with rice and eggs. The parking lot is pretty small so be prepared for tight squeezes and crazy drivers. This location is the smallest of the three but has the same looks as the others. Hawaiian nick nacks are used as decoration and are available to buy. At the counter you'll have the opportunity to purchase other goodies like taro flavored pancake mix, cheese cupcakes from a so cal Filipino dessert vendor. Behind the glass display case sits a very welcoming and friendly worker who is ready to serve you the reason why you're probably here: the poke! There are about 9-10 small containers filled slightly with the magical cubes of fish and other ocean delicacies. Flavors of tuna or salmon include: Tako (octopus) *Wasabi Sweet and spicy Kimchee *fresh ginger Spicy Limu *mayo spicy *Oyster Ask to try before you buy. They can be a little heavy handed with the sauce, but isn't that what the rice is for? If you don't see what you like, don't fret! Closed mouths don't get fed - ask if they can make it or if they have it hiding in the back fridge somewhere and you'll be glad you did. Seaweed salad, macaroni salad, kimchi and rice is optional. Spam musubi (spam thinly sliced wrapped with rice by seaweed) sits on the counter crying out excitedly "don't forget me!" and you better listen. Prices are reasonable and you pay by weight : 1/2lb for $6.75. I'd like to choose all of them, but I guess I should save some for other patrons. I typically choose 3 or 4 quarter pound servings with a side of Mac salad and seaweed salad to share with another human. The spam musubi adds the warm and rice element. Quality service and quality fish makes Poke Etc one of our top poke spots. read more
