Dat Fire Poke Bowl
Janelle F.

Oh my Gosh! How have I never had A Poke Bowl?! Today I had some extra time for lunch out of the office and decided to try somewhere new. I'm so glad I decided to stop here. I talked a bit with the person working and decided on a Dat fire pole bowl. Ahi tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, spicy crab, cucumber, scallions, edamame , chilli flakes, spicy House, jalapeño mix and wasabi. Once I ordered it I was in and out with my food in about five minutes. I love sushi like crazy, but today it was like trying it for the first time. The fish tasted really fresh, it had just the right amount of spiciness, and a ton of flavor. It was so filling. I couldn't even finish it. If you aren't into sushi or poke bowls they have quite a few other restaurants in the same building. Seriously though...you're missing out if you don't at least try this once. You'd be hooked I guarantee it!

I ordered through Postmates after working a long day and I didn't want to drive anywhere but, wanted something fresh and fast. I was extremely surprised that's exactly what I got from Pok U! After getting my poke bowl of salmon, tuna and other fresh delicacies delivered fresh my curiosity to see where it was made was peaked. When I actually went in it was a little confusing as it's actually three restaurants in one which makes for great convenience but, leaves a little to figure out. I got in line and ordered at the register but, I did see there were kiosks where you can possibly skip the lines. I didn't use them because I wasn't absolutely sure how it worked. Service was still fast during a lunch rush. It's nice to see these types of restaurants sprouting up in what I remember as a kid to be mainly an industrial area of Phoenix.

Everything about this place is amazing. They have great customer service. The food is always fresh and great. I tried the SO CAL for the very first time. It was amazing!!!! I will always return.

Ok I tried this place for the first time today after reading some yelp reviews. First I drove up and down the street looking for it...Pok U is not listed on the sign or door. Instead it is inside a place called WTF. Which services cheese stakes etc. only way I found it was sushi was on the windows of what looked to be 2 restaurants. But when you go inside those two restaurants it's actually 1 restaurant. Way too confusing. Next, wait time was great only one person ahead of me. But that's where the good comments end. Because, I ordered a poke bowl with Crab...but it was Krab (imitation) which they put way too much, ahi tuna got 6 small pieces, and shrimp got 5 small shrimp. Also ordered seaweed salad (way too sweet and tasted like sweet vinegar, and also ordered edamame. It wasn't even so-so. And when I got home about 30 minutes later I got sick and lost it all. Would I come here again for sushi? NO. But maybe for a cheesesteak...because a neighboring tables food looked good. I think they have too many things going on and should focus on doing one type of food well instead of having it be so-so.

I'm an avid poke salad lover. Where this located I was sketchy and since they don't just have poke I should have stopped. But I ordered it because of the toppings. I always ask for dressing on the side, I either didn't get it or it was was on the salad. Not sure if that was it or the lettuce was old. The items they put on the salad was huge. Like I had to cut the veggies to eat. I probably won't eat here again.

Hey guys is the white rice made with butter?

Nope :) the white rice is just used for sushi and left plain. Our basmati rice used in the gyro wrap restaurant however IS made with butter :)

This time, I tried the seared salmon, Kiro roll, and unagi don. The seared salmon is fairly classic and tastes well-balanced overall. The Kiro roll was refreshing, and I really liked how fresh the yellowtail tasted. It did lean a bit on the sour side for me. I'm not sure if there was a little too much vinegar in the rice The unagi don was savory, and the unagi sauce was slightly on the salty side for my taste. I usually prefer it a bit sweeter rather than salty, but again, that's just my personal preference. I also really like how they've expanded their seating!! It feels much more spacious compared to my visit a long time ago. There's a good amount of parking in the back, which is always a plus. The staff were friendly and welcoming as well. Overall, a solid spot with consistent quality. While a few flavors weren't exactly to my personal preference, I still enjoyed the experience and would come back again if I am in the area!

While we were sitting there for the typical four hour negotiation., I opened up my phone and looked for something to eat, and up popped Pick and Roll. All of the reviews sounded almost unbelievable, but because I was really in the mood for sushi, I decided to try them out. Boy, am I glad I decided to listen to the reviews on this one. This place is fantastic! This restaurant is fairly decent sized, located between a Mexican restaurant and ironically, a Panda Express (not sure why you would go to Panda when this is MUCH better and equally affordable). The dining room is well lit with about 10 to 12 tables and resembles a chipotle in terms of ordering process that funnels customers to the register. I ordered the smoked salmon roll, the spicy salmon roll, and a poke bowl. And on each one, the amount of ingredients and overall portion sizes far exceed what you typically expect for a sub $10 price point. My Poke Bowl was really exceptional and the purple rice is legit! It did feel and taste a little more starchy than regular white sushi rice but I liked it. Evidently they have two locations, with another location in Central Scottsdale. This will definitely be one of my go to sushi spots in the valley.

I went on Saturday lunch so I suggest maybe going for dinner or mid afternoon so you dont get stuck with eating leftover rice from the night before. Or just dont get rice on your order. Also after eating the whole thing i left still hungry. They could stand to make their burritos a little bigger. Also I got a tuna burrito and it had hot and cold toppings mixed in which made the fish lukewarm when it reaches your mouth which was super unappetizing. The sauce was put on the fish so the toppings like vegetables all get mushed into one spot with no sauce while the fish is soaked with sauce so you have to take a small bite out of each side to get a good combo of sauce. But the toppings were SO dry it was hard to eat. They really should put all the toppings in one bowl and mix it all so everything is mixed well before putting it on rice which further dries out your mouth when you take a bite of the dry toppings. They also dont cover their toppings so the fish is just left in open air all day. Considering fish attracts flies there would be no doubt a fly could have landed on the fish you are eating! I get not covering the toppings, but leaving fish out like that is kind of disgusting. One thing I did appreciate was whoever did the hiring hired 2 workers who altho looked like they didnt want to be there (but who really wants to work at a place like this on the weekend), they were still kind, helpful, and answered questions, as this was my first time here. It was smart to have a camera facing the line so they could go in the back to be on their phone rather than some fast food places where you can see them just sitting on their phones behind the counter. When a customer came in they immediately came out to help them. It was nice to see. Also they have a sign in there that states "local, healthy, raw" which i find misleading as theres no way their ingredients could be locally sourced as theres no body of water for fish to grow in arizona so they would have had to source the fish out of state, making it not local. And the fish does not taste very fresh. If it were local fish it would taste way better than wherever they get their fish from! So i found it odd they would claim to be local. Also the only raw thing in this burrito is the fish and a few of their vegetable toppings. And after all the fried toppings, hot cheetos, and sauces i dont know how healthy this is. Certainly less "healthy" than a normal sushi restaurant. But i guess if you compared it to McDonald's i guess it would be healthy. There are signs in here saying they are part of best of phoenix in 2017 and 2019. I cant imagine a place like this being the "best" in the city as the food was just not good. It must have tasted better back then because today the food was bad. So im assuming they cut costs a lot the last few years to the point of ruining the foods taste. Id come back for the service if all their workers were like this. So ill give a star for that. But I dont think ill come back for the food. The rice really ruined the whole burrito as every bite contained the inedible hard pieces of rice. The food is mediocre at best. I left hungry too.

After looking up stuff in the vicinity, we found this spot. First off, it's a nice space with plenty of other businesses surrounding the area. There is ample parking, and they have plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating. There is a separate bar area (it wasn't in use when we visited) but I wouldn't mind stopping in again to try out a drink or two. The menu was posted and they also had a section where you could order seafood to go (take home and cook). The special happy hour menu was posted for the day and is from 3-5pm Mon-Sat and included deals on oysters, tacos, ceviche, beer, wine, etc. We opted for the Chef Choice Hand Roll, Ceviche as a tostada, Crispy Fish Taco, Uptown HH Taco, and Po Boy along with a white wine. The service was pretty quick and the food quality was top notch. The ceviche was a nice personal sized portion, as well as the po boy. The tacos were what I would consider remained street tacos and I probably could've had at least 3 or 4 tacos alone if I just ate the tacos, since they were the perfect size. For the hand roll, it honestly looked like a work of art and was quite delicious, and came with a nice sauce (part Wasabi part soy, etc from the taste). Presentation was excellent and the service was pretty quick. I had no idea that they have multiple locations in Uptown Phoenix and Scottsdale, with ebolrsalr options in San Diego and cannot wait to try them out elsewhere in the future.
