Old Mohawk--might had been owned by Al Capone. (In German Village.)

Poindexter, a common name for a nerd, is the coffeehouse in the brand spankin' new Graduate Hotel. But it had me thinking: why is 'Poindexter' a name for a nerd and why did they name the coffeeshop after it? Poindexter, it is interesting to note, is an Anglicization of the old French name 'Poingdestre,' meaning 'right fist.' Perhaps the coffeeshop is so named because it's the righthand side of the building. As for it being a synonym of 'nerd' it comes down to a simple and kind of dumb fact: Arnold Poindexter was the main character in the "Revenge of the Nerds" movies. (Glad they didn't name him Schultz! Oh wait sergeant Schultz--like I haven't heard that one.) Marketed as a cafe by day, bar space at night Poindexter's presentation is a masterpiece of modern interior design, when one considers the diverse colors used. An ultra-sharp space awashed in pendent and natural lighting, the color scheme is lots of white complimented by jet black windows, golds and browns, runs of grass-greens, black and gray marble tables and bar tops with leather seats framing deco curves of space, and a bird-eye view of High Street; an impressive colors combo by an ingenious decorator. By the entry is a wild yellow wall with streaks of primary colors and dots of black harkening back to what the Short North once was--an arts district. Above in black pencil are sketches of local institutions: places of historical importance in the GV, campus, and downtown. The kicker is the carpeting; a several shades of grey argyle plaid that reminds one of stereotypical nerd pants. The decor is a perfect synchronicity of form, function, and a play on the joints name. I usually don't favor the minimalism hitting cafes but this one seems to do it without sacrificing coziness. I can't comment on their nightly libations, their mixology aptitudes, nor the food on their relatively light menu. I came here while waiting for The Short North Tavern to open for The Game. I grabbed a cafe mocha to go. The staff was cool--mostly younger kids, some hipster types; they remembered my name. The mocha was--well--standard. You can get better nearby. But, this place might be somewhere I might want to hang, try some food, get a drink. When I do, I will update.

Exploring Cbus coffee is my jam so definitely wanted to visit Poindexter when I noticed it was opened. First expression was it reminded me of an old diner restaurant. It's spacious with a good amount of seating. Such cool artwork on the ceiling with all things Ohio and the pencil wall was very impressive. Pretty simple coffee menu. I had a iced vanilla latte which was yummy. But I wish the sizes where a tab bigger.

First time in and I love it. The manager Sasha is inviting and went the extra mile to make sure our coffees were just as we like. The coffee was perfect and atmosphere was great too. We will definitely be back. It's a great place to relax and get some work done. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

Avacado toast is a bit salty, the pickled onions didn't have much pickling, and for $9.50, I expected at least 2 slices of bread!

I love checking out new coffee shops, so my curiosity led me to this little snook within the Graduate Hotel. The latte I had was good, but I must admit a little average, seeing as there are so many more coffee shops on the street that can do more specialty drinks. However, if you are like me and enjoy your coffee with a little less added sugar, then you will be very content here! The atmosphere was awesome and the staff were very polite and friendly. I was there doing work for about 6 hours and there was always people coming in and out. Great environment for getting things done will be back!

Solid 4 star coffee spot. Coffee tastes delicious and service is quick. Minus a star because some of the baristas don't seem very friendly.

3$ coffee that tasted like tea. My feedback would be to change type of coffee. Clean place

The hot Ube latte was dreamy, the Dalgona was perfection, and the almond pastry was so light and flaky it honestly tasted like home. I hosted two morning meetings there and it elevated the whole experience--my colleagues loved it just as much as I did. And then the sweetest thing happened: the owners were doing a photo shoot, and afterward they offered us the actual drinks they used... for free! Their kindness truly made my morning. Wishing them all the luck as they work toward opening their second location in Worthington! Columbus folks--this spot is a must-visit.

It was good but just tasted like coffee with sweet cream. I'm not sure if the espresso changed the taste but that's my take on it. Maybe everyone likes it because of the color? Anyway, it was still delicious. The danish was nice and warm and delicious as well. I enjoyed the ambiance of the space and the nice decor. I will definitely return to try new things and enjoy the space. Customer service was great as well.

Food: Almond croissant is delicious. Crispy, flaky, soft interiors with a beautiful almond filling. This is the best almond pastry I've had in Columbus. I'd highly recommend. Maple pecan twist is delicious. Soft with a sweet maple glaze and crunchy pecans to top. This was beautiful down and tasted fantastic. If you're a pecan lover this is for you. I'd highly recommend. Pumpkin morning bun was phenomenal. This is one of the best pumpkin pastries I've ever had. A true pumpkin flavor with a soft buttery pastry. I'd insist on this item. Crème Brûlée Eclair was good. Butter pastry with a crunchy caramel topping and a sweet very well made cream filling. This was my first eclair and I'm not disappointed. I'd recommend. Plum cranberry Almond Tart was delicious. The plums and cranberries were fresh and added a nice freshness to the almond base tart. I'd highly recommend. Chocolate bombe was great. Cold ganache filling with dark chocolate chunks and a beautiful ganache and cocoa powder over the top. I'd recommend for chocolate lovers. Chocolate Caramel Pecan Feuilletine was great. I think the issue is with the chocolate they use for the mocha but it had such an odd flavor that I couldn't bring myself to finish it. The croissant was fine and not memorable and I won't say too much on the macaron because I think I just realized I'm not really a macaron person so I can't fairly judge them there. The cafe is itty bitty and there is absolutely no seating inside so it's more of a grab and go situation. There are a few seats outside so hopefully you can snag a seat when the weather is nicer. Overall, I think there are a lot of other good coffee shops in Columbus that I don't see myself going out of my way to come back.
