Cute local Thai spot! Plenty of table seating indoors. Quick service during lunch rush. Finally tried the $12 lunch special. It came with a choice of spring rolls/soup/salad and noodles/curry/stir-fry entree. The thai iced tea was a $3 add-on. While lunch was a really good deal, I don't think I would come back. The spring rolls were a bit burnt. The pad see ew was really salty and there weren't many noodles - the dish was kind of small and mostly taken up by vegetables. This place was such a disappointment. We were offered the early bird special menu but were told that we could not order from that menu because it was past 7:00 PM. Mind you, we were waiting for our waitress to take our order and didn't want to hound her down as we thought we would be honored the special. While of course we could have came a few minutes earlier to order before 7:00 PM, we thought this was tasteless as why would you even offer that menu in the first place? Our first waitress also gave off a very unwelcoming attitude and even "slammed" our drink cups down, which shocked my boyfriend and me. I ignored the situation and assumed that it was not intentional until the table next to us tipped VERY poorly to that specific waitress, which told me that she most likely provided bad service to that table as well. I will say that I enjoyed their pad see ew and that the other waitress was friendly. However, my boyfriend did not enjoy his entree or appetizer. We had food left over but did not take it home. I hate to give a one-star review, but if you are someone with food-allergies like me, you would probably want to steer clear of this place. Despite how nice it is inside and how good the food looks, I had a pretty bad experience. I'll be honest, part of this was my fault: my friends wanted to go out and get Thai food, and I agreed, despite being allergic to soy, sesame, and peanuts. These ingredients tend to be quite common in some Thai dishes. I saw on the menu that they are aware of people having allergies due to the "Have allergies? Let us know" thing, so, when I asked our server, she was very nice and let us know. The thing is, I had the Roti and Massaman curry. On the menu, as it currently stands, it just says "savory and mild curry, potato with roti bread". Our server actually recommended it to me. It was delicious, truly. It was unlike anything I have ever had before. I should have realized that I hadn't tasted anything like this before because I am not supposed to. Five minutes later, I started to feel off. Sore throat, face getting puffy, stomach grumbling. Now, 30 minutes later, I am attached to the toilet, and feeling terrible. At first, I felt like maybe I was just randomly sick, and that it did not have to do with the food, because I explicitly told our server I can't have peanuts, sesame, or soy. So, much to my surprise, I checked the online menu, which says the Massaman curry has peanuts in it. And it seems like it typically has fish sauce in it too, which tends to contain soy. I felt like maybe I misread the menu, but as attached, you will see that the DoorDash listing shows that the Massaman and Roti does not mention peanuts, but the website does. I feel pretty pathetic and embarrassed that this happened. I should have said something in the restaurant, but I was feeling very sick. As I sit on the toilet still typing this up, I realize that I shouldn't be embarrassed, this establishment should be. Again, I don't like to write something like this for a local business. Came here for the Early Bird Special that they offer between 5-7PM every Monday - Friday with my significant other. Was able to get one appetizer, an entree, a dessert, and a drink all for a whooping $16. Where can you get all of this for $16 elsewhere? For the special we got Tofu Fries and Yao Wa Raj Dumplings for the appetizers. There were only 2 to 3 pieces so you'll definitely not get full on these alone. For the entree, we ordered the Chicken Pad See Ew and Shrimp Green Curry. Good sized portions and delicious. Getting chicken is an additional $2 of the deal while shrimp or beef is an additional $3. Otherwise you can get tofu or vegetable, where there's no additional charge. For drinks, we had to get a Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee. Can't go wrong with either. The meal ends with a Coconut Ice Cream, which is worth sticking to the end for. Also a really nice way to end the meal. Note that they do not have a liquor license, or no alcohol is served here. When I heard they were offering a three course dinner plus a non-alcoholic drink for $16, though, there was no way I could pass that up. I came here on a weekday around 6 to snag the special (which runs weekdays 5-7). I'm happy to report there is literally no catch to this deal, just a great deal to be had. I started off with a Thai iced tea which was delicious and strong. I had the spring rolls for my app, my date had the fried tofu. Both were hot and flavorful. We both went with the Pad Kee Mao as our main, which was just the right amount of spicy, and a pretty decent portion size. The ice cream dessert was sweet and refreshing. Service was also fast and friendly. Ambiance is pretty casual, this seems more of a to-go spot but this deal definitely brings folks in to dine, it was very busy. I am a glutton so I definitely could've eaten a lot more after but my friends were full and satisfied by the portion sizes. I randomly came upon Pochana on a chilly night out in Astoria earlier this year. I was at a show earlier in the night and looking for something to eat that was still open in the area. It was a cute little mom and pop type Thai restaurant with good authentic eats. I had the beef noodles. It was pretty tasty and definitely better than some place that I have tried in Manhattan. A small ish imitate restaurant in Astoria. Loved the food especially their appetizers and drinks. Fav drink: fifty 50 (half Thai tea half lychee juice). Staff are super friendly and helpful. Would def come back read more
