We came here on a weekend for a late brunch and there was still a line. The line was near Jamba Juice! The line moved fairly quick though so it wasn't too bad. I think we waited 40 minutes. We ordered the chicken waffles and the chilaquiles rojos. We also wanted to order the french toast but they don't do half orders so we ended up not getting it. I also ordered the matcha latte. The food was pretty good. The chicken waffles was crispy and paired well with the waffles. The waffles lightly crisp and not too soggy and not too hard. The chilaquiles rojos was pretty good. My favorite part was the crema and it paired pretty well with the whole dish. The portions are a bit smaller but is enough to get you full. Let me start by saying, this is definitely a busy breakfast spot on a Saturday morning. The line was out to Jamba Juice when we got there but didn't wait for long. At first I was confused since there was no one really out front so figured just wait in line just like everyone else. Eventually one of the workers with a tablet came by to ask for name and number of people in our party. Ordering was quick and easy since we had spent most of our time looking through the menu. The machaca scrambled was great, with plenty of short rib and balanced amount of egg and veggies. As for the French toast, it needed a bit more flavor for our preference. Our favorite dish was for sure the classic cakes since they were light and fluffy with a touch of butter flavor. The service is what takes away stars. What's the point of ordering "bottomless drip coffee," if we had to ask and got offered a second time when the table was cleared and we were taking off. If I wanted a $4 cup of coffee, I could've gone to one of many decent coffee shops. The concept might work at half capacity but on a busy weekend, attention is lacking. As a first timer, we didn't know if there was a dedicated server for our table so we had to catch someone walking by if we needed something. No one really clears the table unless you show that you're getting ready to leave. Other than the person dropping off food, no one really checked on us and he just awkward smiled since he didn't know where to place the plates. Definitely don't expect "full service" more like partial service. Interior was well lit with natural light, personally feel like tables should be a touch bigger considering the size of plates, but then again as first timers we didn't know what to expect so we ordered 4 dishes from the beginning to get to try a bit of everything. My wife and I were heading out of town and flying out from SNA and we wanted to have a nice breakfast before heading off. I found this place on Yelp and saw that it had great reviews so I figured we would try it out. Overall, I think 4/5 stars is fair for this place. Let me explain why. This is one of those places where you place your order at the front and then sit down with a number stand and wait for them to bring out your food. My wife wanted the churro waffle and we usually end up splitting so that way, we can try different flavors. The food came out about 5-10 minutes after ordering. The food was nice and hot and had great flavors! The burrito was very flavorful and the hot sauce included worked really well with the burrito. The churro waffle was also good. Not overly sweet, slightly crispy on the edges with some nice greens on top to give the plate some color. Aesthetically, the dishes were very appealing. Props to them for making food presentable! So why 4/5? I thought it was a little overpriced for what it is. The burrito was good, but it wasn't huge. I imagine burritos like the ones at Snooze and this one is probably half the size. The waffle was decently sized but at around $15 a dish after tax, it's definitely not cheap. If it was priced at or around $10-12 a plate, I would probably give it the 5 stars. But I consider value of what you're getting for what you're paying for and I couldn't give this place a 5/5 stars. This is a small casual brunch spot in Irvine with both indoor and outdoor seating (dog friendly!). You seat yourself after you place your order at the counter. Service was good, they check on you to see if you need anything pretty frequently and the food/coffee come out pretty fast. Food was just ok. When they came out, the waffles are more similar to the thick waffles you can make at a hotel breakfast. The flavor is the same also. I have had my eye on Poached Neighborhood Kitchen since they first opened and recently had the opportunity to swing by during my lunch. They are located off Harvard and Main, in the same plaza as Ralphs and Chase but they are on the side where the Jamba Juice and HNTea are. I've never had any issues finding parking in this plaza. At Poached you order at the cashier, they give you a number, and you seat yourself. The cashier who was helping me with my order was very friendly and patient. She gave me a few good suggestions based on their popular menu items. I ended up getting the Steak and Eggs ($25) and an Iced Ube Latte ($6). Took my number and seated myself at a small table. It looks like they have staff that brings by water and cleans up the tables. What really weirded me out was that their employee took a cup of water on the table next to me and gave it to me. Other people got new cups of water. I did not feel comfortable drinking from that cup so I didn't drink any water. The iced Ube Latte came out first and it was glorious. Beautiful ombre layers topped with a purple orchid that compliments the ube layer. Just in case it is not obvious, mix up before enjoying. The drink was as delicious as it looks. I know many places make ombre lattes now but this ube latte was actually well balanced and enjoyable. Highly recommended. I would come back just for this alone. The Steak and Eggs was a heavy portion since it also came with hash browns AND toast. I definitely could not finish all of my food. The steak was cooked medium rare as requested. I have a tough time with this one cause I typically like mushroom and herb butter but I didn't like their herb butter. I found myself trying to scrape the still visible parts off my steak. The meat was a bit chewy, not tender. The eggs were super oily and the worst part of all was the amount of egg SHELLS I got in multiple bites. The side of black beans was flavorful and comforting. They used quality chips that also retained their crunch even after being smothered in rojos. Speaking of the rojos, the sauce was the highlight. Nice spices and had the right amount of heat to it. The onlt thing that was a miss for me was that I asked for an over medium egg because I didn't want the yolk to be runny, but I received an over easy egg instead. We were asked if it was okay that it came with hash browns and we said it was fine. Apparently, you can opt for a side salad but who wants a salad so early in the morning? I ordered an orange juice and a glass of water. They give you numbers and the servers bring the food to you. The seating is open so you can choose to sit on the patio or inside. Since it was a bit chilly, we opted for inside but they had space heaters on the patio. The drinks arrived first and my orange juice tasted like it was fresh squeezed. The short rib benedict came out shortly after and it was beautiful. The hash browns were a thicker shred and crispy. The ketchup tasted housemade. The short rib was braised and shredded. The poached eggs were a tad overdone but there was still some oozy yolk. It was the perfect amount to share since we weren't starving but hungry enough to devour. If I ordered it on my own, I think I would have had leftovers. The food was good and while pricey, you're paying for quality ingredients. I'd definitely come back. The dill on the top was a little overpowering. It came with french fries and multi-grain toast. -- Classic Waffle [5/5]: This was the star of the show. I came specifically for their classic waffle. The waffle was topped with powdered sugar, vanilla whip, and fresh berries. Topping it off with a side of maple syrup to your liking. The vanilla whip and maple syrup was so goooood together. -- Chile Verde Benedict [4/5]: The benedict had two muffins topped with chile verde, poached egg, Beeler's pork, serrano aioli, cilantro, hollandaise, and paprika. The hashbrowns on the side were really good with the ketchup and green chile habanero sauce. The outside of the hashbrowns was crispy and the inside had a perfect texture that wasn't too soft. Poached pear French toast (seasonal item) (9/10): the toppings were great - blackberry coulis was fruity but not overly sweet, the whip on top was light and airy but nicely flavored, and the mint gives each bite a freshness that made all the difference. The country bread was not sweet like typical French toast and had a nice chew and savoriness that balanced out the sweet pear syrup very nicely.
