If you're going to eat here, get the combo deal. At least you'll get a lot of food

I can see from the low score, that the Yelp reviewers are on to this place. Place. The Google reviews are much too kind. But again, AI bots have been posting fake reviews on establishments for the last 7 years. I'll keep it short, this restaurant looks the part... But fails heavily in service and food quality. . Is no manager on duty when we came for lunch, and the poor service reflected it. The kitchen does not retickets and there is no prep person making sure the orders are correct The chips and salsa were the best part and they were free! The food itself was not hot enough and tasted like something you would get at an El Pollo loco or El torito restaurant.

I went to Plaza Azteca for dinner with a friend this past Friday around 7. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was pretty packed, but we found parking just fine and snagged two seats at the bar without having to wait.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our bartender's name was Karen and she did an awesome job of checking on us regularly. We were quickly given menus, chips and salsa, and ordered our drinks. Not a huge fan of the salsa, it's watery and flavorless, but the chips are yummy. I got the pomegranate margarita, and my friend had the mango tropical margarita. They are large but I didn't feel mine was too strong, and we both really liked the taste of them. We also got the guacamole, which they make in front of you so you can tailor it to your taste. It was delicious and they give you enough to bring home, so it's worth the price. For my meal I ordered the birria tacos. I felt they were a bit dry and I noticed in 2/3 of my tacos all the meat was to one side, so a few bites were just tortilla I thought the consommé was good and I ordered a side of rice and refried beans, which I enjoyed. My friend got the steak burrito fajitas and she loved her food. I would go back. I really like the service and the drinks, and I think it's a fun place to grab a bite on the weekend. The food is worth a try but I wouldn't recommend the birria tacos.

Parking Parking lot available Service Seated right away and server was nice Drinks Tres hermanos- strong and very good and tasty Food Chicken wing appetizer was ordered and served on tinfoil, not a fan, so unfortunately my meal ended here. If you don't mind food on tinfoil, please visit.

I don't know why there's so many negative reviews because when I tried this place it was good. They have ample parking and the restaurant is huge. Lot's of sitting and a nice bar area as well. They also have amazing table side guacamole and ceviche. Both the guacamole & ceviche and hits! They are honestly a must have when coming to this restaurant but trust me you will be full if you don't have a lot of people with you lol. Don't order those two items if you're going to order a meal. They are huge and will get you full. For me meal, I ordered the ribeye tacos and they were perfect! The steak was very flavorful and the meal was great! I'll definitely be back to try other dishes.

First time here. Friend said the food was great. I ordered a tall draft Dos Equis the glass was cold the beer was warm. We ordered the Queso Fundido choriqueso dip, very oily, and the meat tasted like Hamburg not sausage. I ordered the Birria Tacos.l, these were the worst I have ever eaten. The looked good, the meat was very dry and over cooked, the extra beef broth was like dirty water. The rice and beans had no flavor. The service was ok, the server was slow and not friendly. The ambiance was typical to a Mexican restaurant. In all only one out of the five liked their food. Very disappointed!

Birria tacos and burrito were amazing. The portion is a good size. The entrees are priced well. Approximately, my 5th time here!

I've been going to the Border Cafe since they first opened when they were at their previous…read morelocation across the highway next to Midas Muffler. Their salsa is the best you'll find anywhere but my absolute favorite has always been the blackened chicken fajita! They serve it with hot tortillas wrapped in a towel, pico, cheese, and guacamole, all on a bed of lettuce. There was nothing better than the scent of that steaming, SIZZLING platter when it was brought out from the kitchen to the table! Other customers would turn their heads to see it when they heard the sizzle and smelled the fajita! Everyone knew what it was! Lot's of oooohs and ahhhhs!! Well, the last several times my husband and I have gone there (we moved to New Hampshire) we've been very disappointed. The fajitas no longer sizzle!!! I asked our waitress why it wasn't steaming and sizzling the last time we were there. She told us some parents complained that the platter was too hot with kids at the table. Well, don't order it...or keep an eye on your kids! Hello! We went again today as I was dying for a fajita. We drove an hour from where we live in NH. Once again, I ordered the blackened chicken fajita. I made a point to tell our waiter "I want it SIZZLING" It arrived hot, not sizzling. I asked him why? He said, "They stopped doing it because the heat was setting off the fire alarms!" (interesting that I've now gotten 2 different excuses) Really? I've been getting the sizzling fajitas since 1994 and have never heard of that happening!! I told him the steaming, sizzling platter of fajita is a VERY LARGE part of the experience and they need to start doing it again! My husband thinks some woke nitwit probably touched the hot platter, complained about a lawsuit, and that's why they're not doing it anymore. If that's true, it sucks for the rest of us who like a SIZZLING FAJITA!!! C'mon Border Cafe! Bring back the fajitas we all know and love! Add a disclaimer on the menu that the plate is hot if people are too dumb to know that steam + sizzle = hot!! I wrote on my bill when I signed it: "Please bring back the sizzling fajita!" When you do, I'll update this review and give you 5 stars.

Lately, I've been watching the nashville hot mozarella sticks on social media and was craving this place again. I was shopping in the area and insisted our family go to Chilis so I could try it. My expectations were exceeded, led by the amazing over the top service by our server, Lindsey! She was super friendly, communicative of our order, gave excellent recommendations to convert our single entree into a cost savings meal that included chips and dip, and she checked in on us many many times - All with a smile! She is not just there to collect a paycheck, she is there to ensure customers have a great experience at Chilis. Hold on to her! The restaurant was clean and spacious. The menu was easy to scan through to see what we wanted. Triple Dipper $17.29: This had 2 nashville hot mazarella sticks (VERY good and everything i dreamed of), southwestern egg rolls (4 halves) - not what i remembered from many years ago and smaller, and 3 chicken tenders with choice of sauce. This was my meal and I was more than full and satisfied. Next time, I'll just stick to an entree order of the nashville hot cheese sticks. I didn't have anything else, other than a bite here and there...not enough to give a good honest review of the other foods. However, the presentation and portions of the other foods looked great. Everything came out hot and fresh looking. The fries were cooked nice and crisp. The white mac and cheese was a big hit with our daughter. There was an abundance of ranch dip for all of our dishes. Well done, Chilis in Salem! Kudos to Lindsey! Hope to see you guys again when we venture north to NH for shopping (from MA).
