We came for Sunday brunch and had the pleasure to have Sam as a server. Place was not busy for dining but that could have been due to the snow as Sam mentioned that they are usually busy for brunch. We started out with wings that were good although slightly underseasoned. Their maple ranch dressing balanced the taste well. For my entree, I went with a new item on their menu- BBQ Benny. I asked for my BBQ bernaise sauce on the side. I was surprised to get 4 poached eggs so that was a bonus and they were perfectly cooked. Home fries were unevenly cooked probably because they were unevenly cut but the flavor was on point. Place is cheerfully decorated for the holidays. I had great hope for this restaurant as the menu was highly intriguing with it's unique incorporation of BBQ proteins into breakfast dishes. So the story begins on a snowy Sunday morning. Parking was plentiful and entering the restaurant it is nicely decorated with a Pub vibe. The menu had recently changed and the server mentioned the changes, A+ for doing this! I started off with the smoked wings. Nice smoky flavor but could use some seasoning. The maple ranch, came in the side, was deeeeelicous and saved the day. For an entree I selected the hash and eggs. Disappointing! The brisket used for the hash was stringy, unseasoned/under seasoned and had fat scattered throughout. The poached egg on top was done perfectly and infused some much needed flavor into the hash. The home fries were the only well seasoned component to the dish. Despite the uneven sizes, the potatoes were crispy outside with a tender inside and the right amount of seasoning. Toast was unbuttered with cold hard little packets to do it yourself. I appreciate the healthiness of this, but at least give room temperature butter so it can actually be spread. Overall a disappointing experience and certainly not the highest quality BBQ proteins which I expected to shine. Service was great but otherwise I don't think I'll be back. read more

Three of us enjoyed a wonderful brunch at G's this morning, the highlight's of which were the Crispy Brussell Sprouts appetizer (served with whipped feta and peanut chimichurri) and the cornmeal waffle served with the chicken and waffles. All three of us named those sprouts as one of our favorite fried sprouts dishes ever. The combination of sweet and savory flavors was the perfect combo and the sprouts crisped just right. The cornmeal waffle was both unique and delicious alone and when paired with the perfectly crispy chicken. If you like both waffles and cornbread you can't go wrong with this dish. The Biscuits Benny were tasty with nice crispy potatoes, but we felt the chorizo gravy was light on both the chorizo and flavor. We would definitely get both the sprouts and waffles again though next time. Our server was both friendly and knowledgable and accommodated a couple of special requests, which we really appreciated (like putting the chicken and waffles on separate plates). The space itself was very comfortable, with nice touches to divide the space up and fun decor. We noted there was a nice long table in the middle which would be great for group events. Bummed that we couldn't use our Groupon at a nearby establishment we decided to try out G's. Too hot to sit outside so we decided to eat inside. There was a singer on the corner up front by the bar so we opted to sit in the dining room which is just on the other side of the bar. It was very loud in the dining area which was due to a pretty loud party of 6. I do think the brick walls don't help with the sound level. Once they left we were able to communicate with ease even though there were still a few other large parties there. We started with some drinks. My husband got the tequila martini which he enjoyed. He's normally a traditional gin martini guy so he was pleasantly surprised. I had a glass of Kendall Jackson. We ordered the watermelon tuna ceviche which never came out. Our server was a fantastic and waived the cost of our drinks. We told her we still wanted to try the ceviche so it was brought out to us after our entrees. Our server also removed the cost of this appetizer from our final bill which was unexpected, appreciated, but not necessary! The app was good but solve used some more kick because the watermelon blended in with the tuna. I had a G's burger and my husband had the cluckatron. We have been here several times. Recently it wasn't as good as it was in the past. It could be the summer menu. One of my favorites is the chicken fried chicken which isn't on the summer menu. We got salsa and chips to start and the biscuits. The chef must have gotten a smoking gun because it seems to be added to everything now. Not a fan. The biscuit was moist and flaky. The butter made me nauseated. Was pungent and a smoky flavor that doesn't go away easily. That same smoke is in the salsa. Why? Unnecessary. Chopped Cesar with a smokey egg..again? Scallops were well cooked. Grits were creamy and good flavor. BBQ platter he said was good. I miss the collard greens. The pecan pie was amazing. Brownie special was dry. read more

As a native Texan, I almost cried tasting the breakfast tacos I've missed so much (not really but my gosh they're spot on). Espresso martini was so good, chocolatey and creamy. We also had chicken and waffles. The waitress was very friendly and service as fast. Great atmosphere, I especially loved the shiner bock signs everywhere. Everyone working there was awesome and welcoming! We had a fabulous server, Taren (I hope I didn't butcher her name) who checked on us just enough times to make the service pleasant but not over bearing. Bringing A Little Slice Of Tex-Mex To The Slipper City! I saw an article in the Eagle Tribune on a new restaurant that was opening in Haverhill that was serving Texas Southern Flair cooking! It looked very interesting so we decided to try it out! The location is on Washington Street which is a quaint small town feel with all kinds of shops lining each side of the street. It has huge windows in front and on the side. Inside the decor is warm, comfortable and inviting. There is a full service bar with comfy seats. And the perfect lighting. There is an array of table configurations; high tables for two in the front windows and high tables for four along the side windows. The main area has all kinds of seating for parties of 2 to 10. The side windows have cactus growing in the window sills. The host, I believe his name was Will, was super welcoming, and chatted with us while we waited for our table to be ready. We sat down, and our server Matthew, came over and took our drink order, and explained the menu. He was also super friendly, welcoming and accommodating. I ordered my usual Apple Martini and my husband got a coffee. The waiter brought these delicious mini Corn Muffins with butter that was super delicious. The Apple Martini was the best I've tasted. It wasn't super sour and harsh like some can be. Trust me you could drink many of these...They put a fresh pot of coffee on for hubby, which he loved. The menu is pretty diverse, so if you don't particularly like Mexican, there's something for you, as they also offer Southern style cooking and BBQ as well. We didn't go for appetizers because it was a Tuesday night and we arrived quite late. I chose Fajita's which were on the menu as Vegetable Fajita's. I asked if I could have chicken with the Fajita's and they were more than happy to accommodate. Hubby got the Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies. My Fajita's were delicious. Came with a generous portion of char grilled chicken, peppers, onions, pico, avocado, and a side of Texas Beans. Hubby's Chicken was "the most tender chicken I've ever tasted" and the crunchy coating on the chicken was crunchy but yet super light but yet still crunchy! And a huge piece of chicken! He loved the mashed potatoes as well!. We couldn't possibly opt for the dessert as we were so packed from the entrees. BTW, Plans for plenty of outside seating is in the works just in time for Summer! Excellent addition to downtown Haverhill. Service was friendly and attentive. Concept seems to be predicated on Southern Hospitality. Menu is original, I had the chicken and waffles followed by a country fried steak. Chicken and waffles were great. Cornmeal waffles, smoked honey whipped butter and VT maple syrup, couldn't pass that up. All the dishes were fresh, very generous portions, and modestly priced. A local Facebook group has been raving about G's so a friend and I decided to try it for lunch on a Friday afternoon around 2 PM. It was a beautiful day so we sat outdoors in the alleyway because the seats facing the street were buzzing with yellow jackets but not so much in the ally. We had my dog with us and a bonus for allowing pets on the patio!! I went in to ask if we could sit outdoors and a very friendly young lady greeted me (I think she may have been the owner) and happily seated us. Our server came over immediately and greeted us with a very warm welcome and offered drinks to which we stuck with tap water. We also ordered the chips and salsa as an appetizer as we took a few minutes to decide on our entrees. The chips arrived and were warm. The salsa was described as "shaken" but we didn't originally know what that meant. The server literally shakes it in a mason-like jar before pouring it in the serving bowl. The salsa was chunky with a hint of smoke. The chips were very light and fresh. Or entrées we decided to share the local burger medium rare with everything on it as stated in the menu with a side salad and the steak Frites with the spicy chimichurri and steak fries. Our server came out with a dog bowl of cold water which we thought was a very special touch. It took between 10 and 15 minutes for our entrees to arrive. The steak Frites was very generous for a lunch portion and price. The steak was perfectly cooked; however, the steak fries were warm to almost cold, so that was a little disappointing. The chimichurri sauce was different from any other we've had before and we couldn't say that we loved it. The local burger was cooked perfectly and was very tasty. I would definitely have that again and a side salad was also generous with very fresh greens. Overall we had a very good experience and would return to try other menu options. We appreciate how friendly and attentive our server was and the warm welcome for our four legged friend. read more

I gave this spot 3 stars because the music and the service was great for Sunday brunch but I had high expectations for the food after reading the great reviews. We had the Brussels and queso for an appetizer, the Brussels were good the queso was meh. My daughter ordered the chicken and waffles and she did not care for the corn bread waffles and my husband's bacon was burnt and unedible. I had the avocado toast it was ok. The drinks were very good but the food was mediocre. I loved our server though he was extremely pleasant and the vibe is nice. Maybe it was an off day for brunch food. First time at G's. Attracted by a story on Chronicle and the menu from their website. Arrived there around 5:45P; not real busy, but it was about 80% full. The first impression was it was extremely loud; it was too loud to have a conversation across the table without shouting. They should install some sound deadening panels in the ceiling to help this. We ordered an appetizer and a couple of drinks. They were delivered quickly and we placed our main order. We waited what I'd say was an unreasonable amount of time for two chicken sandwiches, which are mainstays of the establishment. They were actually delivered by a runner, not our wait person, as we hadn't seen her for some time. The food was excellent...no issues here, I rate the food very highly. I don't know if there is a staffing shortfall but after ordering a second beer, it never showed up. The owner passed by the table, saw we had some leftovers, and asked if we needed a box. We did, and we never saw her again. When our wait person finally came back to check on us and clear glasses/plates, she said she'd get that beer...too late, cancel the beer, bring me a box, and the check. Sometimes, it's just an off night, but first impressions are important. G's is a small restaurant with a Texas flair. The ambiance would be better if not so LOUD. Good atmosphere, good service. The food was hit or miss. The fried chicken sandwiches with jicama slaw was amazing and the taco was okay, but the queso was possibly the worst I've ever had. I really wanted to like it having lived in CC Texas and the great food there. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was terrible. I've had better at a late night stop at Denny's. Our server had to have been new, service was terrible. My wife ordered a dirty martini which was mostly olive juice. Overall one of the worst dining experiences that I've had in Haverhill to date. Chips are fresh and clearly season right before they come out. I can appreciate a well done "restaurant" style chip. Drinks are excellent. Micaela had a Barton springs (cucumber cooler) that was incredible. Needed a touch of unaccompanied lime but 8/10. I had a sage advise that was perfectly balanced. Great sage taste with a subtle vodka burn that I like. Free Starter cornbread was great, could have been warmer but accompanied whipped butter was excellent. We devoured the queso and our first round of drinks. Very happy so far... feeling good about dinner Chicken fried steak needs some love in the front in terms of seasoning, but still rocked my world... lawd. My braised beef and fresh tortillas are amazing. These tortillas are the freshest I've ever tasted. Seasoning and presentation of the braised beef was excellent but....Rice is very underdone... waiter brought me fries per my request in less than 60 seconds. Have I said the service was incredible? Because it was incredible. Good god Micaelas plate was amazing, her chicken fried steak was melting in my mouth and the potatoes were a raft in a sea of deliciousness. Collard greens had me feeling some kind of way. Very subtle but packed with flavor. I would highly recommend. Great potential. I can only speak to the dishes my party and I ordered (chicken fried steak, fried chicken sandwich, and fried chicken dinner plate with sides). I'll preface this review by advising you so show up hungry. I pride myself on having a big appetite and not one of us could finish the portions! We started with their fresh homemade salsa which is nicely not the watery consistency of most restaurant style salsas. This salsa was diced fine and had a half lime in it which really gave the flavor some nuanced depth, highly recommend it! I stared with a side garden salad which was paired with one of the best dressings I have ever had. It was a bacon infused vinaigrette which sounds odd but holy cow was it amazing. The collared green sides were of decent portion as were the Texas style beans but the greens could have been kicked up in flavor. My recommendation would be add pork fat like they do down south. The chicken fried steak was so tender it was literally able to be carved with just the fork. The fried chicken was excellent, it was battered thick and had excellent crunch. The gravy was a southern style so expect a thick and floury consistency pairing very well with the dishes. All of the sandwiches on the menu are ingeniously put on Fantini Bakery's rolls which, if you're from Haverhill, you'll know are absolutely amazing. Some of the menu's meat options are even sourced from Haverhill Beef, which again if you're from the area, know them to have amazing cuts of meat. The beer menu has your common 'average joe' tap options but they had a decent selection of regional canned craft brews which was nice. The drinks were very well constructed and paired well with the food. Again, I can only speak to the menu items we ordered and until I can try other options which I fully intent on doing, I will hold off on giving 5 stars. Every new restaurant has its challenges but the from-scratch menu shows a great deal of promise and I look forward to their future and our future patronage. I would also be remiss if I didn't mention that they have a full gluten free menu which is awesome. Out front they also have a few outside seating tables which will be great for this spring and summer season. When asked how we liked them- the response was that they were so incredibly tiny how could we tell. Our server laughed....ok. Dinner came steak salad for me. Basically lettuce, half avocado, half egg and 4 tiny pieces of steak. For $15? Really? Tasted fine, but nothing special. Chicken fried steak came for hubs. Steak bland- gravy too floury. Four of us had dinner here on a Friday night. The service was friendly and prompt. The food overall was disappointing although the brisket (part of the bbq platter) was quite good. We didn't like the chicken fried steak or the chicken fried chicken. I don't see how anyone would like either of them unless they fundamentally don't like the taste of steak or chicken because those tastes were masqueraded by thick layers of carbs and cheese. The mashed potatoes could have worked as a glue and the collards tasted mostly of vinegar. The jicama salad that came with the bbq platter was OK. The first two tries at ordering non-standard margaritas resulted in the waitress saying 'others say they're too sweet'. So my friend decided to order a regular margarita. Pretty bad. Now how hard is it to make a good margarita, I ask you? So this place might be OK if you stick to beer or wine and bbq. read more

Now they are open at a difficult time and the menu might have changed to accommodate supplies but the food is spectacular! We had Blackened White Fish served over grits and seasonal veggies and my husband got the Chico"s Smoked BBQ Platter with beans and substituted Jimcama slaw for mac & cheese.
