Me and my girlfriend went here on Sunday. The service was below baseline at best. We ordered and waited an hour for our food and parties that came in after us were served before us. Arguably discrimination at its finest but I digress. The food was terrible and the chicken sandwich I ordered could not have been any more dry with bread that was stale and hard. My girlfriend was about two thirds of the way done with her meal when a glass cup broke in half and landed in her plate. Waitstaff took her plate away and asked if there was anything else she wanted but she's a nurse that works overnights and we were on a time constraint. So she asked for a baked potato and green beans. I will say, we weren't charged for those items, but we also weren't comped for her meal either. It was just bad business all around coupled with foul food. And thennnnn I found out yesterday that they overcharged my card. The bill was 68 and change, I left 80 and change and they charged my card 93 and change. Which means the below baseline server ran a tip he didn't deserve and that wasn't warranted. I called yesterday and they said they'd put the money back on my card but this never happened. I'll never go here again. And I wouldn't recommend anyone else does either. read more

My husband and I used to go here all the time when we lived in Haverhill, but we moved back to New Hampshire 8-9 years ago. We were in the area figured we go reminisce go back to our old date night spot. It's not quite as amazing as I remembered it being it wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. It was just mediocre. We came on a Friday night at 6 while driving through ME. We were told 15-20 to wait, but got in with only 10 min! The waitstaff was LOVELY. A local place with a variety of options. There is always a specials board up. Take a picture because they don't give you a written copy. It is extremely noisy here either the hard wood floors and high ceilings. So if you are looking for a quiet date night or dinner where you can hear your companion easily, this isn't the place. Got the haddock special. Came with house veggies (carrots and green beans) not a fan. I could replace for spinach for $2 surcharge. Really? For spinach? Ok... kind of a turn off. I recently met several friends at Butch's Uptown. From the outside, this restaurant looked small, but there was plenty of room, and we were sat in a long booth to accommodate about 15 people. The waitress was delightful and efficient, the food served within a reasonable amount of time, and it was really quite tasty. I had the baked haddock, which was a generous sized piece, accompanied by baked potato and fresh vegetables. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals and cocktails. read more

I am usually a fan here, but it took a very long time to get an appetizer and the portions were unusually sparse and skimpy. The spinach was barely cooked and not much of it. The vegetables consisted of 3 small carrot slices, 2 thin green beans and 2 slices of summer squash. I know food costs have gone up but cmon! read more

The Food is excellent and they always have "specials." I am a definite foodie and I don't write reviews to hurt or help a restaurant. I'm just honest in MY opinion. The mussels in white wine are one of the best I've ever had. The shrimp cocktail are large and very tasteful. I've had corn beef dinners for St Patrick's day, Hamburgers for lunch, seafood to pasta dishes for dinners. Most times I sit in the bar area I really enjoy the friendliness. They have tables in the area and seating in the back room. The drinks alcohol or non are never flat or warm. I highly recommend going. You won't regret it. I took many pics of several meals and of the decor of the restaurant. However, I am having trouble posting. Just go and enjoy!!! You won't regret it. read more

Last night I ordered the spinach salad with grilled chicken to go. It was a good salad, not spectacular, however I noticed after eating about half that the produce sticker was still stuck to the sliced yellow pepper! Who doesn't notice this when washing/ cutting produce!! I am not sure where the other half of the sticker was, or whether I or someone else ingested it! My wife and I decided to try Butch's uptown today during our lunch break. The restaurant was spacious and the server (Kelly) was pleasant, initially. We arrived a little after noon time. We sat down just as another table received their appetizers. We ordered a few drinks and an appetizer and they came out in under 10 minutes. She came back after I finished my drink and took our order. We wanted prime rib but she informed us that it wouldn't be served until 2p. Since we were pressed for time we decided to order a sandwich and a salad at which time 2 more groups came in. My second drink came out a few minutes later. After 20 minutes we saw that the 2 other groups had gotten their apps and placed their food order. Another 20 minutes went by and both tables had received their food. I got up to go to the bathroom and saw a salad and a sandwich sitting on the kitchen counter. I figured it was our food and it should be out soon. I finished my second drink and she came by to check if I wanted another one. I said "sure, why not" and waited. When we saw that the 3rd drink came out before the food I got up to ask for the check and when she saw me coming towards the kitchen window she grabbed our food and brought it out. Needless to say the sandwich was cold and the salad was warm. It took over an hour to get a chicken sandwich and a salad! When the food came out we immediately asked for the check and a box. She started to clean the table off while we were still boxing the salad and asked me for her copy of the receipt, that was still in my hand. Which makes me believe that she thought I was going to stiff her on the check. I usually tip 30% because I know how the service industry is and how servers rely on these to make ends meet. Besides the server, the food was ok, nothing to write home about, but it could've due to the fact that the food was room temperature. We left 10 minutes after getting our food, at 130p. This was not a pleasant experience and I will not go back nor will I recommend this place to anyone. I don't usually complain but this was unacceptable. read more

Had a reservation had a few more than we thought very accommodating. That was the only good thing . Everyone's food came out at different times so when one person is half way through theirs the next person got theirs. Then they never asked when we wanted the cake out they just brought it out and started singing ! We weren't even able to take a video. There should have been more than one waitress for the big party there was not. And then they add the tip into the check so if u get bad service u still have to pay for it ? Umm no thanks will not be going back to a place where we waited over an hour and a half for food kids food came last . This is our 5th time eating at Butches and keep getting the same meal, the seafood platter which we split (it is large). We ate at 3PM and it is now 10PM and still raving about it! The haddock, scallops, clams and shrimp could not taste any better and the fries are the best around this area, and not greasy! We ate at the bar and the service is great. Our bartender (unfortunately do not remember her name) was so attentive, it was between 2-3 on 1/26/24 . The best restaurant we have been to in a very long time! read more

Took my Mom to celebrate her birthday. Not a large varied menu however food was good, even though I had to mention my order was incorrect. The mistake was remedied however seemed like it was an inconvenience to get it corrected. Ordered a meal to go to only get home and find out the order was wrong, When I called to mention the mix up I was given the run around and no attempt to make up for the mistake. Went back again. Food and service is still great, but the place is so LOUD when it's busy you can't hear anything. We couldn't hear the waitress and couldn't hear what each other were saying. Some friends of ours told us the same. They need to do something about the enclosed restaurant. Open it up so the sound can dissipate. But still is good just don't go when it's so busy. We had visited Butch's a few years ago and did not return.. Until this week. What a pleasant surprise! There were 6 of us, and we all loved our food! We had the steak tips - flavorful and tender. Baked haddock - excellent and fresh! Pan seared haddock in lemon caper sauce- perfectly cooked and flavorful! Ravioli stuffed with spinach & cheese- giant and perfect! Mediterranean pasta with shrimp- delectable and perfectly seasoned. Our sides, coleslaw- wow! Veggies- perfect! Apps were also nice. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was huge shrimp! Fresh too! We indulged in dessert- a generous slab of custard bread pudding and a chocolate ganache warm cake were the perfect cap to a delightful meal. Our server Erica was outstanding and masterfully rolled out the 6 specials of the night and was attentive and informative about the menu. We'll be back! read more

Hey Ya'll, it's me again, your neighborhood foodie laying down the facts about Butch's Uptown in Haverhill, Ma. This neighborhood staple seems to be a tried and true family restaurant. While the decor is a little confusing and all over the place the service was spot on. The waitress had her hair up (because let's face it just one strand of hair in my food and I am OUT) glasses on ready to work. She was accommodating and very pleasant. I ordered the fish, scallops and fries. The fish was good and the fries were awesome. I would have cooked the scallops a little longer but the flavor was great. My husband ordered the veal. The sauce could use a little help. Ok a lot of help . The sauce should be the star on a dish like this because there is so much of it. WAKE IT UP!!!! Beautiful spot. Good service. I'd go back to try a soup or a sandwich. The garlic parmesan wings had great flavor but weren't in any way crisp. If I had to guess, the fry oil I just wasn't hot enough. Shrimp cocktail left a lot to be desired, too. Although sizable and served with a fantastic cocktail sauce, the shrimp themselves were water logged and thus, had an unpleasing texture.
