Reviews With Photos - Border Cafe

I've been coming to Border Cafe for years and it's always been one of my favorite spots, which is why tonight was so disappointing. Several things with the food were clearly off: * The jambalaya rice was burnt and crunchy. * The burrito chicken was extremely dry. * The chips and salsa were over-salted, and when we asked for unsalted chips, the replacement batch was burnt. * The tomatoes on the chicken were mushy, not fresh and firm like they usually are. * The fish tasted frozen, which is unusual for what Border Cafe normally serves. The only bright spot was our waitress, who was incredibly sweet and helpful. We actually felt bad bringing up the issues because she was doing everything she could. It honestly felt like the kitchen quality has slipped, which is surprising for a place that used to be so consistent. I hope management looks into this because Border Cafe has always been a great restaurant, and it would be nice to see the food quality return to what it used to be.

The food is absolutely amazing here and I LOVE ()  the jambalaya (jum-ba-li-ya) here! It's the best and I also really love their fajitas and corn chips!!! The service is bizarre! The waitress was so nice We had a great experience! The place looked so festive and well taken care of on the inside and out. It is very big and decorated, too! They have a great bed of plants that are well trimmed and up to date on the outside. I had a great experience here and having been coming here for 11 years. NEVER let me down. Great every time

The food is amazing. Authentic mexican food at a great price. No reservations but the place is enormous with ton of tables. The chicken fajitas were perfect. The chicken had a great char while still being juicy and tender. The onions and peppers were cooked through instead of being crunchy and raw. The service was busy but our server was very helpful and friendly. The food came out in maybe 10 minutes it was crazy food. Come here for some great mexican cuisine.

We love going here for the past 10+ years. They always have great food, drinks & service and a great atmosphere with the music. Free chips & salsa!

Started off loving the chips and salsa and also loved my shrimp tacos. The chipotle aioli with the tacos was truly "chef's kiss." The margaritas were good, but a bit watered down and on the pricier side. Service was decent. Being someone who lived in Texas, the country music and Texas decor took me right back, especially after visiting the week before. They allowed my friends and I to chat for hours - a gesture we truly appreciated. All in all, a delightful spot for gathering with friends.

Blackened chicken fajitas, blackened broccoli

I went to culinary school. First time going to this location. Would not return. The chips served were not warm like they usually are. The blackened chicken fajitas was around half of the portion you get from other locations (including the onions and peppers). And the bottom was burnt, not blackened. The broccoli was also half burnt and barely warm, the serving dish wasn't warm at all. Over on the left you can see a very sad amount of limp lettuce and a tiny scoop of guac. Our waters were also not refilled at all (the dining room was maybe 60% full so not crazy busy). Go to Saugus. Or better yet, bring back the Harvard square location.

The setting of the restaurant was quite nice. But the food was bad. From stale fries and steak to soggy tacos and service was very slow.

Always a great meal. The gumbo here is perfect! We love the Cajun spices and the house margaritas are delicious.

There are no zero star. Worst steak fajita ever. Service was good. Food awful. Waste of money. Never to return.

Good service. Crazy that ownership says no dessert options. Not great for a birthday.

Come Mother's Day and I am not a fan of going out on the actual day, but I did remember this place. We made a Saturday reservation, picked up my son from work, and headed over here. SO WORTH IT! I thought the spot was adorable and clearly well loved by locals and their own staff. You really get the feeling that all that work there really love the place. I like the menu items are not the "usual suspects" I see at most Tapas places, which are good but sometimes you want to shake things up. We got: Bolas de queso Patatas Aioli Croquetas De Jamon Croquetas De Verduras Solomillo De Ternera y Queso Cabrales Calamares Fritos Tabla de Quesos Pisto Manchego Albondigas De Cordero Iberico Peras Borrachas Torta De Chocolate All the menu items were flavorful and enjoyable. I think my favorite was the Croquetas De Jamon, if I had to choose just one item. We also decided to get two desserts - a pear dessert which seems to be their signature dish and the chocolate tort. While the pear was lovely, I was really in the mood for something chocolate so I enjoyed it more (but honestly cannot go wrong with either).

The MOST welcoming and friendly staff that treats you like family as soon as you walk in. I enjoyed my staples for the night: Jamón Iberico, garlic Chicken; pollo al ajillo (a must), and a red sangria. The jamón is freshly cut to order with a nice drizzle of pure olive oil over top. The sangria is so refreshing with fresh fruit tasting like they just picked it themselves. The lovely bartender, Astrit, informed me the grapes are Grenache from Spain , which have a dryer, robust flavor compared to the sweeter red sangrias that make you regret your decisions the next morning and tastes better in my opinion. I'm usually more of a beer guy but this slaps! I've also had the white before and that also hits the Richter scale. Last but surely not least, the garlic chicken (pollo al Ajillo) is the best chicken I've ever had, hand to God. Spiced with everything nice and delicious oil and garlic that you deserve. Even on a first date, you'll be kissed after giving this to your significant other. This fine establishment is one of my favorites and I always am satisfied, leaving with a full belly. I hope the same for you!

Stopped in at Burlington in between medical appointments and a great, quick, delicious brunch. My husband scarfed down his Rice, Rice Baby entree (Rice, black beans, fire roasted poblano corn, grilled chicken, pico de gallo, avocado crema, pickled onion, cotija, sliced avocado, Nacho Cheese Doritos® & cilantro.) It looked really good; I'm going to have to ask if they'd make a vegetarian version. The husband wondered if it could be made into a burrito. I experienced the delectable Cookie Monster Pancakes (Oreo® cookie infused pancakes stuffed with chocolate cream - topped with Oreo® cookie butter & powdered sugar.) I ate half and brought the other half home. Washed it down with some quality Peet's iced coffee. Staff was courteous and dependable. It was a little loud, as are most Toasts, because of music and chatter. Entrance is handicapped accessible, though a push-button automated door would be excellent. Staff held the door for me when I entered and exited with my mobility aid.

We didn't order as much food as we normally do during lunch. We ended up splitting a Korean fried chicken sandwich, house salad and fries. I also ordered a spicy mango margarita which was delicious! The chicken burger was five stars. I highly recommend it. The burger bun was brioche style and the chicken was fried to crispy perfection. The only thing I'll say and why I took a star off is because there is always a long wait time to get seated at the friendly toast. I know when we came it was a holiday but I have found that there is always a long wait time here. I don't know if it is because the restaurant doesn't have a lot of seating, but waiting an hour to be seated consistently here is frustrating for customers. It worked this time around because we had errands in the mall but that is not always the case. I hope they can work on bringing the wait time down on normal days.
