I had been selling and buying at Plato's for the last six years. Today was the last time I will ever go in there. They have been picky the last couple times I have been in there. One time my mother went in there with some of my clothes while I was at work and the person told her, "I can look through it but we don't usually take clothing of your generation". My mother reassured them if they would look they would find out it was my clothing. I'm 22 years old. I tried on a pair of MissMe jeans, they were super cute and comfy and I wanted to buy them until I found a huge rip in the butt of the jeans near the pocket. They were charging $45 for worn ripped jeans. I went up to tell the assistant manager named, "Ryan". He was very condescending and defensive. I told him I felt like that was overpriced and that he shouldn't be selling a damaged item. He marked them down from $45 to $22. I told him they were still damaged! They are still ripping the buyer off. He said some things under his breath, I don't know what and when I asked he said "nothing". The jeans were a stretch like fabric and the rip is near the pocket. It was not a fashion rip. It was someone split them while wearing them. There is no way to fix them that wouldn't make it noticeable. I told him I wasn't coming back. He didn't apologize or anything. I came here to use my $5 in rewards. There was a sign up reading 1/2 off any clearance so I picked out & tried on some things & chose 2 summer tops. I entered my rewards # & then they said no double discounts & to look around more. The reward expired today & I'd already looked around all I wanted. The store had LOUD music. I was treated very poorly here. I use a mini backpack as a regular bag which they made me take off which wasn't an issue, since I understand that is the store policy but I felt VERY discriminated when two more people came in (I am hispanic they were white) and one of those people also had a backpack the same size as mine and they were told nothing or even made to take it off. read more

I brought in a ton of cute stuff from Nordstrom, Hollister, and Abercrombie that's maybe a year old and worn 2x at max. Out of everything, I got $10 for two items I could've sold myself. The Hollister jean jacket was worth at least $40 and they gave me 4$ for it. I'm never coming here again. Worst experience every time I've been in. If you have trashy clothes that you got from somewhere for 5$, that's all they'll take. They want trendy, cheaply made items and if you bring in anything worth value, it's either too good of quality for what they want or they give you $5 for it. Not worth the time and gas. Honestly pissed after visiting this platos on Saturday. To start, the young girl, I think her name was Abbi was very unpleasant. Barely smiled & overall had a bad attitude. Then as they are going through my things, the other girl is on her phone texting...After telling me my buy would take 30-45 minutes. I came here just to get rid clothes that I do not want anymore. They said it would only take 20 minutes and that I would receive a text when they were ready, but I end up coming back 5 mins before closing & still didn't receive that text/call from them although everything was ready. I sold 10 items for $15 that were in great condition and had some tags on them so I wouldn't recommend selling your clothes here if you're looking to actually make decent money. I didn't care though because I wanted to get rid of my items and just note, they're not going to take most of your items either so just be aware of that. This place is such a waste of time. They act very pretentious when it comes to the items they'll buy from you and make you feel like the things you wear were bought at a value village 20 years ago. The ironic thing is they sell such worn out, washed out, stretched out clothes...so I really don't get it. Last time I was there with a bag full of clothes (lots of work items from Ann Taylor, lots of blouses from Nordstrom, even a North face jacket) they took ONE item - ONE! And it was a pair of men's Nike basketball shorts which I got $3 for. For a store with a staff mainly consisting of teenagers, it's remarkably well-run. The selection changes pretty significantly from week to week, parking is never an issue and as long as you don't come on a holiday or in the middle of a Saturday, they go through the items you want to sell at a pretty brisk pace. For the value you're getting, you definitely need to visit it on occasion. I've gotten multiple pairs of perfectly fitting Joe's Jeans, Diesels and Seven for All Mankind for $40 or less, and that's not including the credit I got for trading in my old stuff or the discount they add on top of it for trading. It's a good place to add to your shopping run. You'll save a ton when you find what you want. read more

Pros: The store has good organization with their materials and styles. There's always a steal there, for example, the knee-high brown *leather boots I bought a while back. They were in great condition and cost me about $13.00. The staff is friendly. Cons: They're in high competition with surrounding stores (Burlington, Sears, Ross, CTC). That being, they are meticulously selective. I have been turned down all four times I've tried to sell, each time coming in with three or more bags. I am not saying to not go, because it's worth a shot. Just don't expect your $30.00 for that pair of Nike's that originally cost you $115.00. You are most likely to receive $15.00-$20.00. read more

Like many secondhand shops, you have to dig to find the best deals (their IG is a great way to check out what's "in" or in-store sales). Selling my clothes, the employees have been polite and efficient. Both times, I felt like they offered too little (approximately $2-3 per item). Otherwise, bring in mall brands and seasonal clothes. I didn't know what they had taken and when I got home I was very disappointed to see that they had given me $12 for one item that still had the tags, and another item that was worth over $100. The last time I brought my clothing in to sell I was told that the time I'd been in PRIOR I had a sensor on one of my items and that they had flagged my ID in their system. This was completely erroneous on their behalf, all of my clothing was used! Why would you accuse/inform someone of an event weeks after it occurred? Why not when this purported event was happening? On both occasions they still bought from me too!!! Maybe because it's not true?! That's the equivalent of saying "Let's accuse you of something when it's not fresh in your memory, have it be meaningless to do so, have no on-site manager to refute the validity to, all for the awesome $4.50 you get after we make you wait for an hour for your own personal defamation, hooray!!!" Naturally I was so upset that I wrote the manager and her assistant manager an e-mail inquiring on how I could rehabilitate my good name, to which they never replied. This company is a franchise with an extremely poor structure that extends into every store of theirs I've been to. This store is absolutely the worst one I've been to! There is frequently no one staffed in management to oversee the inefficiency of their own employees, undoubtedly chosen to conveniently deal in passing with the frequency of customers they upset. My advice to potential customers is to go to Buffalo Exchange, Crossroads Trading Co, or anywhere else because at the very least you're supporting a better company of people and you'll feel like it in the end. read more

When I got here to sell my clothes today, the girls working the registers were both on their phones texting. They didn't welcome me in, they were both rude and acting like I was an inconvenience to them. The girl told me that my buy should be ready in a half an hour, it took nearly an hour and a half. I brought in guys and girls stuff, with tags still on, name brand (Columbia, American eagle, Nike) the girl told me my stuff was really worn out and out of style (most of it was never worn) and they were looking for fall and winter stuff.. I generally like shopping here. But at this location I felt so uncomfortable with the music the staff chose to listen to. The lyrics were very innapropriate. If I wanted to go to a club, I would. But I didn't, I went to a clothing store. People take their families in there and it's somewhere I don't want to go again. At check out I asked the girls if they chose what they listened to and they said they did. After explaining how I felt about their choice in music they awkwardly apologized and didn't do anything about it. I left early because of the crude choice in music that shouldn't have even been playing. I wouldn't recommend this store for families until something changes. read more

I came in here a few months ago. And I brought in clothes that were new (From Buckle, Macys) that got to small(working out). In that pile of clothes were a pair of jeans that were new that I spent 59.95 for from Buckle I was forsure they would take those but they pulled their noses up to it. They said that they were out of season I laughed so freaking hard because I just bought those pants a month before I'm pretty sure Buckle is up to date with whats in. And honestly what the employees had on was outdated and no one should wear shorty shorts at a place of business. The girls were rude on top of it. Plates Closet is a great alternative to shopping at the mall. They do have some really good prices and all if the clothes that they accept are of high quality. The only drawback is that the racks are packed full so you have to have the time and patience to go through everything to find what you are looking for. I brought in two bags of clothes, all only slightly used or brand new. They only took 11 items and only took items that had tags on them. They claim to give you "40% of their price, which is 70% of the retail price", but I only received a total of $49, despite having 2 brand new pairs of jeans, with tags, retailing $60, and 5-6 dresses, all brand new with tags. Rude customer service, as well as vague with their policies. I dropped off four paper bags full of apparel around 7 pm - cashmere sweater, free people dress and shirt, lucky brand jeans, and a nice guess brand puffer jacket were among the items. In the store, I asked if they took donations and they told me they were not able to accept donations, which is fine because I would have passed the other items onto friends. They said they would call me once they went through all of the items. I NEVER received a phone call, so five days later decided to check in and see what the status was. The girl on the phone looked up my name and said that they did decide to purchase five items, and would leave me with a whopping $10 store credit. I thought that was a pretty low-ball price for the quality of the items I provided, but whatever. I asked if I could come pick up the items they passed on, and she informed me that all of my items were donated?! Apparently anything left after 9 pm on the day they were dropped off is donated. She said this was highlighted on the bottom of the form that I filled my information out on. Something you think wouldn't hurt to mention as I dropped off my belongings at 7 pm on a Sunday and noted that I did not live in the area. Needless to say, this place is a scam. They probably tagged the "donated" items and sell them to gain a full profit. Though places like Buffalo can be picky, at least they will go through everything right in front of you and are very upfront with their policies. I would have felt better donating everything to Goodwill. read more
