As a regular delivery customer through the SLICE app, I am usually happy with their service and food. I am a good tipper. Usually don't complain however yesterday's salad was bad. It was a little bit of lettuce with olives and a LOT OF RED ONION. (the red onion wasn't even fresh, it was rotten in parts). i started a chat with the slice app and sent them a picture. Standard pizzeria with a huge dining room area in the back and seating towards the front for those who just want to sit after getting a slice or 2 before heading back out on the road. Staff was welcoming and helped navigate what to do as we were debating about grabbing a couple single slices or a full pie. I only wish the pizza had been a little more well done as it seemed on the undercooked side. The calzone for a personal size was gigantic, a lot cheese perfectly melted and gooey, meat filling was Alright, could been in larger chucks rather then grain size. We had car trouble while traveling and had a few hours to wait. So we walked over to Planet Pizza in Newburgh. From the outside it looks like a strip mall pizza shop but we were pleasantly surprised upon entering. It's well appointed without being over the top. Understated but nice art work on the walls. Clean including the bathrooms and music playing. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Big smiles and took time selecting items for us. We chose items that were already prepared and just needed to reheat. We chose a Sicilian cheese slice, an Italian style pepperoni pizza slice and a garlic knot. Sauce, crust and cheese were all better than average in my opinion. My husband preferred the Sicilian as the pep was very thin and kind of greasy so drooped when picking up. Again flavors were pleasant. Solid place and very happy we got to experience it. Plus like I said the staff were very helpful and friendly. I often drive by the Mid Valley Mall and see the signs for Planet Pizza, so I finally decided to check it out. When you walk in it's a very modern decor, hard wood floors, very attractive interior. I was greeted by the gentleman at the counter and took a look at the selection of the various specialty pies. I saw bacon chicken ranch, Buffalo chicken, pepperoni, veggie, Sicilian and Jamaican beef patties. After a moment of decision making I went with a Bacon chicken ranch and a beef patty with cheese. It was out right into the oven and I grabbed a soda from the large coolers the the left of the counter. I also noticed a separate cooler filled with Italian ice. I sat down and in about 5 minutes my pizza was ready. The food was served on smaller metal pizza trays and it was hot. I am a huge fan of an extra hot slice not a mildly warm slice. The beef patty was hot cheese melted it looked and appeared most wonderful. When I took a bite I was sold. The sauce was very tasty with a bit of a roasted garlic flavor to it, the ranch was creamy/smooth, bacon was plentiful along with pieces of chicken. I enjoyed each bite as much as the last. Then I embarked on the beef patty which was a Golden isle brand (The Best) it was flaky and tasted just as it should. It was a mild flavor so those looking for spicy this is not the one. Again with each bite my satisfaction grew and after about 10 minutes of enjoyment my plate was clean. The crust on the pizza was delicious, it was a crest flaky consistency not to thick or doughy, not to thin that it lacked any flavor. This place was our go to spot for pizza for a long time and unfortunately after this weeks experience we will be finding somewhere else to go. We walked in to place a takeout order. Kid at register was far from friendly (not rude but just not friendly) I showed him the "coupon" on their website to get a large pie, wings and soda for $28.50. He informs me the price went up (which is fine, everything has) and it's now $31.50. If their website is promoting that deal at 28.50 due to not being updated it should still be honored especially when I have it right in front of me. I didn't argue though. Then for my wings I asked if they can mix the Parm garlic and hot sauce. Nope they can't do that. I don't understand why but ok; asked for the hot on the side so I can just dump it on top when I get home. Asked for ranch and bleu cheese, charged me for one of them and then never gave it to us. Then we ordered the sweet Thai calamari and asked for extra sauce. When we got home we saw they barely even put a drizzle of the sauce on it and it was undercooked. But PP's Calamari is so tough, you can barely chew it. Like rubber. Then I tried a Veal parm hero. Same thing. The Veal is tough. I order over the phone and pick the food up. Twice in the past month, the order was wrong. If you order, check the food before you leave. How I see it? Overall, the place is clean and the people friendly. But the pizza, of 1 out of 10? I give it a 5. The Sicilian slices? To doughy and too much crust. As for the rest of the food, having tried a few dishes. Not good at all and not enjoyable. I haven't tried a salad yet. Subsequent visits haven't been much better. All three times I've had pizza from here, the crust was really chewy. And not in a good way. Like, tough. Due to all of my traveling i had no idea this place opened until a friend told me about planet pizza. When I heard the name at first I thought of toy story. The place in the movie was pizza planet. Food. planet pizzahas just about every thing an Italian American pizza spot has. They have regular pizza and a list of specialty pies. From what I read all of there pies are thin crust. There pizza reminds me of NYC it is super thin crust nice and Chrispy. They also have parm sandwiches. Wraps. But the thing that struck me the most was a Jamaican beef patty. When I arrived I went up to the counter and I was greeted by a man who asked if he could help me. He told me a few things and mentioned a special on the board and then he pointed to this pizza in the display and said this was there best seller. Naturally being a yelper I had to try it. It was breaded chicken tomato sauce and cheese with a hint of ranch. I thought at first it was a béchamel sauce which it could be I didn't ask the guy. Used to frequent Planet Pizza often when I lived in Monroe, and I now stop in from time to time since they have opened here in Newburgh. They did a really nice job on the dining room and seating area, very spacious and inviting, and they generally have a nice selection of gourmet pie selections and slices at the counter at all times. Get the chicken marsala pie, which is great, or the chicken bacon ranch slice, which is what they are known for. I find some of their regular Neapolitan to be slightly average compared to some other pizzerias in the area, but for the most part, entrees, heroes, and gourmet pizzas are quite good and tasty. We were visiting from out of town for a get-together on Sunday. We ordered three large pizzas (and by large, they really mean LARGE!) and a chicken caesar salad for take out. They deliver, but it was right on the way for us. Everything was hot and fresh. The dough and sauce were very good! The plain cheese and meat-lovers' pizzas were the biggest hits; the pepperoni had plenty of pepperoni on it, but it just wasn't as popular. The chicken caesar had a good amount of chicken, and it was deliciously grilled. The salad container was large--easily enough for two lunch-sized entrees--and it came with some very good italian bread on the side. Servings are really generous--we had almost a whole pizza left over. Service was fast and friendly and prices were very reasonable.
