Coffee And The Vegetable Sandwich
Steve A.

Got lunch at this cool cafe. It has a good location in the Civic Center neighborhood. Planet Cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch on the weekdays. Limited hours but certainly not on flavor. The menu is mostly typical cafe fare such as sandwiches. At lunch is a good time to go here. It's only open for breakfast and lunch. The menu is pretty simple. Has the basics of a deli. It's about $11 for a sandwich. Each of us got one of the vegetarian choices. I had the Vegetable Sandwich. This came with avocados, cucumbers, hummus, lettuce, red onions, and tomatoes. Also they can make and deliver kids' lunches. This is nice of them to be sure with already having there being a limited amount of food they can make. Basic looking cafe. It's only a few tables inside. This is a good place for takeout, but you still have enough room to eat inside, and there's the one sandwich option that's okay for vegetarians.

Planet sweet crepe: banana, strawberries, drizzled with Nutella.

Small place--it fit our family of 5 at the front table comfortably--order at the counter type of place. Feels off the beaten path. Parking was available and proved to be a good place for a quick breakfast for both sweet and savory crepes. Ambiance--definitely felt the throw back to France vibe, small cafe owned and run immigrants.

Cute little cafe with a solid breakfast bagel. They seem to be known for their crepes so worth trying next time!

Planet Cafe looks like another moderate mom and pop shop that serves coffee. I decided to have a smoothie for $5. It had pineapple and blueberry. It was good to try. I noticed they serve Ethiopian food. It's not a fancy place, but interesting for Ethiopian. This is in Hayes Valley.

Very friendly and hospitable owner. Delicious crepes and good coffee! Planet Cafe is a small cafe, but the food is outstanding. I will return.

The Smoked Salmon Salad to go.

The salmon salad to go. The bread was delicious, well buttered and toasted perfectly. The salmon was fresh and also delicious. I'll be doing this for lunch many more times.

Amazing date night spot and open surprisingly late. :) They have a wide array of wines, beers, and signature cocktails. I got their hot apple cider and it was good! It wasn't strong [:(] but it was definitely delicious [:3]. The chairs built into the wall were a little uncomfy but they looked so chic. The bar projected an anime on the wall on the night that we went and it made for a great vibe. Service was a little slow (it seemed like it was only one person servicing the whole place) but they were friendly and attentive! Would 100% recommend checking the Social Study out if you're in the area!

I really can't put into words what a vibe this place is. From the exposed brick walls to the reclaimed wood tables, floors etc. the whole place felt "lived in" and upbeat. The drinks and service were top tier, and the curated small bites menu of snacks were a perfect accompaniment to the evening. If you are in the area, or want to pregame before a night out in the Fillmore or Japantown, this is a good place to kick the night into gear.

4.5/5 Such a sweet…read moreand special place to gather with friends and play games! I found this place online by searching Board Game cafes and totally didn't expect what we found when we walked in the store in the middle of downtown Hayward. There are so many board games to play, including unique ones like Skyteam. There's also many PCs and Switches available, and lots of tables. The ambiance is pretty kitschy. I think the place used to be a restaurant so there are lots of restaurant tables and chairs which aren't the most stylish or comfy necessarily, and there are lots of little knick knacks like old lamps or drapes. The lighting varies. But there is a sweet elderly couple who were running the place when we arrived, and it evokes a sense of comfy nostalgia to think maybe this is how they like the place or have kept it through many years, even though the times outside have changed. Everything is neat and clean, even if not to modern style. Things like Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer are also provided throughout. There is a bathroom that's likewise well kept at the back of the establishment, but just beware there are a couple spooky motion sensor light hallways to walk down to get there. I heard the food is good but we didn't try it this time. Little snacks and cup ramen, etc are also available for purchase :) $5 per person to stay as long as you like and play whatever you want is a great deal, and it warms my heart to have a space like this exist. Happy to support this sweet family business

I had been to the church before, but I didn't remember the massive coffee hangout there! It's so spacious and offers plenty of seating. How long has this place been here? I wish it were closer to where I live in San Jose! I could easily imagine sitting in one of the comfortable nooks, studying or grading papers. It's also a fantastic spot to meet up or chat with a group of friends. It was definitely a nice place for a date! When we walked in, there were hardly any available seats, but the line at the counter wasn't long. We found a quiet corner to sit and enjoyed our breakfast. I ordered a hot latte with maple syrup in the name, though I can't recall the exact name. It paired nicely with my pastry. The almond croissant I ordered was delectable, with just the right amount of sweetness and flakiness. My partner enjoyed his cappuccino and savory bacon croissant. We walked up two steps to the restroom and were surprised to find more seats and tables. I wish I had noticed that area when I was looking for a place to sit. Oh well, it was comfortable where we were. The girls should have more playdates with their cousins so we can come here more often. Is it really called a "playdate" when the kids are 12 and 15, and their cousins are between 21 and 30?

The salted maple latte was just ok... sadly it looked better than it tasted. I wasn't a huge fan of their espresso as it left a very sour after taste, even with the sweet maple syrup it wasn't very pleasant. Good espresso should be balanced and coffee forward, and I didn't get that. Almond croissant was great, but I was a bit disappointed in their coffee. Ambience is great for studying or getting some work done.
