Got lunch at this cool cafe. It has a good location in the Civic Center neighborhood. Planet Cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch on the weekdays. Limited hours but certainly not on flavor. The menu is mostly typical cafe fare such as sandwiches. At lunch is a good time to go here. It's only open for breakfast and lunch. The menu is pretty simple. Has the basics of a deli. It's about $11 for a sandwich. Each of us got one of the vegetarian choices. I had the Vegetable Sandwich. This came with avocados, cucumbers, hummus, lettuce, red onions, and tomatoes. Also they can make and deliver kids' lunches. This is nice of them to be sure with already having there being a limited amount of food they can make. Basic looking cafe. It's only a few tables inside. This is a good place for takeout, but you still have enough room to eat inside, and there's the one sandwich option that's okay for vegetarians. read more

Small place--it fit our family of 5 at the front table comfortably--order at the counter type of place. Feels off the beaten path. Parking was available and proved to be a good place for a quick breakfast for both sweet and savory crepes. Wonderful people providing a great service to the folks in the neighbourhood, particularly kids at International School. Lots of snacks, though I go mostly for the breakfast bagels while my daughter looks forward to "hot lunch" delivered to school. Family run by the nicest folk. My only regret is not getting there as often as I would like. read more

This is such a great neighborhood cafe. We come here for sandwiches every week (the BLT and the Hero) and they are consistently delicious. The owners are also really friendly, so we enjoy interacting with them. Would recommend to anyone grabbing a quick bite in the area. read more

Espresso drinks under $5 and avocado toast (with eggs and bacon!) under $10 in Hayes Valley -- who would've thought? My search for a reasonably priced, normal cafe in the area is over, thanks to Planet Cafe. This is definitely a mom and pop operation; the owners are working hard, taking orders with a (mask-covered) smile and making food and coffee at lightning speeds. As some of the other reviews mentioned, they also sell Ethiopian food, which I'll have to come back and try! I got a bagel breakfast sandwich and a cappuccino, both of which were made to order. You can tell they aren't skimping on the quality of ingredients, and they give you large portions to boot. Other bagel shops in the neighborhood can learn from Planet Cafe's portion sizes! The bagel itself was quite fluffy, which I'm not normally a huge fan of, but they made it work -- it paired quite nicely with the fluffy eggs. The cappuccino was also great. While the beans aren't handpicked from a monkey's butt in the Argentinian rainforests or whatever, they're a step up from the standard cafe offering (I believe they're Illy). read more

Absolutely love Planet Cafe. Their house brewed iced coffee is amongst the best I've had in San Francisco. There is ample seating space to kick back with your laptop, and a very pleasant environment to get things done. The atmosphere is very familiar, reminds me of the San Francisco of old, a classic cafe / coffee shop, exactly what Hayes Valley needed. The customer service was on point, and super friendly. I'm definitely going to be a regular. Also, the food is legit, absolutely love the eclectic mix of crepes, standard cafe fare, and Eritrean food (yep, they also serve delicious, authentic Ethiopian cuisine). I miss places like this in San Francisco so I definitely recommend checking them out and supporting this local, independently owned small business. Give thanks! read more

When I passed by this place and saw that I could get Ethiopian food here (and not have to venture into the Tenderloin), I knew I had to go in sometime. I brought my friend who is Kenyan and also a fan of Ethiopian food (and sadly, Bay area has no Kenyan restaurants, boo!) to split the veggie combo plate that was $14. We also got a smoothie each, just in case the veggie combo wouldnt be enough for two people. Our concerned was unwarrented, they brought out a generous plate of food: red lentils, yellow lentils, beet salad, lettuce salad, collard greens and stewed potatoes. It was all delicious and very healthy. Best of all, they gave us more injera for free when we asked nicely. Fantastic lunch for 2 people for $14! The smoothies were also yummy and a fair price. Everything else on the menu was standard American fare which I cant speak to, but would def come back to split the ethiopian platter with a friend again. read more

I recently started coming here regularly to meet my teacher once a week. Very friendly service and good coffee and snacks. I usually get an iced coffee or tea and some sort of pastry if I need a snack. Recently the owner has started offering Ethiopian food which makes me so excited! Veggie Ethiopian dishes are one of my favorite foods, aside from sushi so any chance I get to try some, I'll gladly accept. The veggie plate they offer is HUGE and so delicious. It lasted me two full meals since I couldn't eat it all in one sitting. And all of that for only ~$10. So happy and satisfied by all the delicious flavors! My husband and I stopped here while on a walk. I got the planet crepe (bananas, strawberries, and Nutella) and he got a pulled pork sandwich. First off, the staff is so nice! Super friendly and inviting. The food came out very quickly and honestly, I've never been a huge crepe person ... But that crepe was amazing. My husband said it was the best pulled pork sandwich he's ever had. For the price it was so well worth it and I highly recommend stopping here! read more

I had the best veggie crepe here. I saw the sign from the sidewalk and thought it was closer than where I was headed so i would give it a try. When i walked in, I saw the larger food menu and was pleasantly surprised that they served crepes! Then I saw the advertisement for Ethiopian food as well and I was sold. The food was outstanding and the service from whom I presume is the owner was incredibly kind. I didn't know what to expect and I must say that the cafe exceeded every thing from food quality to customer service! I can't wait to go back. :) read more

I have an appointment in this neighborhood every Wednesday and I stop into this place for breakfast before I go. They do a great Mocha and I don't need to add any sugar or anything. Just a great coffee flavor with a chocolate finish to it. The other part of this is the breakfast sandwich on a bagel or croissant, 2 eggs and cheddar cheese. It's really filling and good. I am also in a wheelchair and they are very helpful to me and respectful. Some places I have been really cannot figure out why I can't carry a tray while I am pushing my wheelchair. This is a family business and it is so hard to keep places like this operating so I will continue to support them and recommend them to other people. read more

While I didn't expect much the Boba was most defiantly sub par, the tea was powdered and the boba was low quality.In short I would have to say that the Boba that planet cafe offers is most definitely not worth its 5 dollar price point now while I cannot say how their other food is I can only dread that the low effort hap-hazardly displayed in their boba might carry over to their other dishes. read more

Adorable neighborhood coffee shop and lunch spot that smells like crepes, cookies, and chocolate combined. Seriously, I didn't want to leave it smelled so good. I got the chicken salad for $10 (great deal for its size!), but most people seemed to be getting crepes and coffee. Free wifi! Definitely seems to be a kids hangout spot, very family-friendly. Tonight I made cheese ravioli with puttanesca sauce, fresh thyme and oregano and Parmigiano Reggiano. I did not see Grana Padano, it's my absolute favorite. I am including dinner photos because "pictures speak louder than words" Also- try their sandwiches - there is always a line as they also sell fresh deli meats and cheeses.

Walked in around 1pm on Sunday and there were 4 people in front of me. Ordered the Joker and a "Build Your Own" Ham & Turkey both on dutch crunch and in the largest size (12 inch), "Supreme." Both sandwiches were $21 which is pretty expensive even for Bay Area standards and I didn't even know how much it would cost since there are no prices listed anywhere in the store. I haven't been to all the sandwich places in the area but for the same sizes, Little Lucca in Burlingame is $5-8 cheaper for similar sandwiches and they have a lot more meat. Unfortunately there are too many better sandwich places in the Bay Area to come back here.
