Where do I start when it comes to Luca Delicatessen? Let me begin by saying that when I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon, the place was packed with customers. After having my tuna sandwich on wheat, I completely understood why. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. From the tuna to the tomatoes, pickles, and avocado, you could truly taste the quality of every ingredient. I'm getting hungry again just thinking about it! I'd also like to give a special thank you to the owner, Paul, who was incredibly gracious and accommodating during my visit. Great customer service always makes a meal even more enjoyable. If you appreciate fresh ingredients, outstanding flavor, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere, I highly recommend stopping by Luca Delicatessen whenever you're in the area. As an added bonus for my fellow wheelchair users , there is accessible seating available, making it easy to enjoy your meal comfortably. Thanks again, Paul and everyone at Luca Delicatessen!

Great sandwiches, respectable selection of pastas, salads, meats, cheeses, canned and jarred imports. It's a classic Italian Deli. They get busy at lunchtime so plan for a wait or order early. Very limited seating outside only.

Love having a great sandwich shop in our son's neighborhood as it is so convenient to pop in and pick up great food. Today (Saturday) there was a line 7 deep. Lucca makes great sandwiches, we particularly like the chicken pesto on Dutch crunch bread. Generous sized sandwiches, we certainly could split one but happy with leftovers. Also, can grab freshly baked cookies and brownies, chips, beer, wine, etc., etc. also noticed a sign where they will store your luggage.

***Restaurant quality ingredients, if not better **** I have been relying on this store for quality ingredients for dinner nights. Tonight I made cheese ravioli with puttanesca sauce, fresh thyme and oregano and Parmigiano Reggiano. I did not see Grana Padano, it's my absolute favorite. I am including dinner photos because "pictures speak louder than words" Also- try their sandwiches - there is always a line as they also sell fresh deli meats and cheeses.

Delicious deli sandwiches with fresh baked bread and piled on with a ton of meat! The sandwiches are huge and almost impossible to eat on your own, so make sure you have someone to share with. You grab a number after you walk in and wait your turn to order and pay. Then you take your food to go because there's no seating unless you are lucky enough to grab the bench right outside the store. We tried their deviled egg and the giant sandwich in the case...no idea what it's called but it was very delicious.

If you want a flawless, old-school Italian deli experience in the city, Lucca Delicatessen on Chestnut is the gold standard. Established in 1929, it perfectly balances nostalgic, bustling old-school charm with incredibly high-quality ingredients. The sandwiches here are absolute units, packed high with freshly sliced, premium cold cuts and served on perfect, crusty Acme bread. The #1 Italian Combo is legendary, but you really can't go wrong building your own or grabbing The Calabrian if you like a bit of heat. Don't skip their signature mild Italian marinated peppers--they elevate the sandwich entirely. Beyond the counter, the shelves are a treasure trove of imported Italian goods, amazing fresh pastas (the homemade ravioli is a must-buy for dinner), and an incredible cheese selection.

Grabbed a sandwich while walking around the Marina. I loveeee a classic italian sandwich and love it on a dutch crunch. This sandwich was perfect with amazing ratios!!!

The Calabrian sandwich is absolutely delicious. Great blend of meat, cheese and spice. Highly recommend this place. The bread has a nice crunch but still soft in the middle. Can't wait to try more of what they offer!

That is one of the most authentic Italian sandwich I tasted in recent years! Unfortunately I was too full to try what I wanted to try. Perhaps next time

Got the Italian - It was a decent sandwich. I thought the bread that was provided was quite hard and a little too saucy. But overall, it was not a bad sandwich. It may be a little too hyped, but not bad if you're in the mood for a sandwich. Also, there's always a wait so be sure to order ahead!

The Caprese with Prosciutto

This is correct. Simple ingredients, done to perfection, with the care of true craftsmen. How could I not shed a tear after one bite of the Caprese sandwich?

Do you have Portuguese custard tarts?

Sorry, we do not.

What mixed ingredients are in shrimp salad sandwich?

Hi Lisa. Our shrimp salad has mayonnaise, celery, salt, pepper, a tiny bit of onion, and of course, the shrimp. For the sandwich, you can customize any condiments or bread. We hope that answers your question.

What is their crunchiest bread or roll? I ordered Dutch Crunch & it wasn't at all crunchy!

Try Acme Italian and Extra Sour.

Do you guys have 00 flour?

Yes.

What time does the online ordering feature open? Doesn't seem consistent with the store hours.

Hi Cathy. Thank you for your interest. While the store is open from 9am to 5pm, online ordering is from 9:15 to 3:45. However, you can preorder for whenever you want and we'll fill the order at the correct time if it's in that window.

Do they have gluten free bread?

Hi Rachel. We do not have gluten free bread but we are always happy to make a lettuce wrap! Thank you for your inquiry and we hope to serve you soon.

Do they sell pizza dough like the one on valencia?

You are confusing Lucca delicatessen with Lucca Ravioli which was on valencia but now they retired they are not the same company I now come to Lucca Delicatessen to get my Ravioli's they are very good

How long does it take for them to make your order after calling in?

30 minutes.

The staff is freindly and helpful when you want to tweak an ingredient or two. But after many years of tweaks we've learned that they make the sandwiches right as-is. They are just perfect with the balance of ingredients as they come. Also, note the place is small and gets busy. You may have to wait a bit for your sandwich, but it is well worth the wait. They do not have any seating, except a bench out front on the street. But you can take the sandwich to Golden Gate Park, under a 10Min walk away, or to Finnegans Wake to get a drink and enjoy the sandwich in their backyard or at one of the many tables inside.

There is an area where you can get coffee drinks and there is a deli area for ordering sandwiches, pizzas, specialty dishes, and salads. The variety of options is plentiful. I ordered an iced coffee beverage, which was great. My significant other and I ordered a sandwich to go, which we were splitting for a light lunch back at the hotel. The person helping at the counter was not very friendly or helpful with questions. We asked for our sandwich to be made on the Dutch Crunch bread, as we were looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, when we got back to the hotel, it turned out that the sandwich was made on a regular ciabatta roll, which was not fresh. Additionally, the sandwich was mostly mixed greens. For the price, I expected more meat. With so many great food options in San Francisco, it is likely we won't stop by on future visits to the City.
