First time at the Hornet for some lunch this past weekend, and this place is a hidden gem, and dare I say it, the best chicken Cesar wrap I've had so far in the Bay! Located inside of London Market, this sandwich shop has daily/rotating menus available Thursday through Saturday from 11:30 till sold out. We arrived after Noon, and they had already sold out of their Tri tip, so we went with the chicken Cesar wrap and the Spicy Carlo which was an Italian sandwich, that was loaded with Italian cured meats, cheese, cherry tomatoes and a spicy mayo for an extra kick. As I mentioned earlier, the chicken Cesar wrap was the star of the show. Good amount of chicken, really good Cesar dressing, and everything id want and more. We've eaten a lot of these wraps this year (at various spots), and this one is at the top of our list. The Spicy Carlo was good but wasn't my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of cherry tomatoes and I thought it kind of dominated the flavor of the first few bites, so I ended up picking them out. The portion size was good, the toasted/pressed bread added a nice crunch. While it was good, not sure if I'd order again only because the wrap was so tasty and since they have a rotating menu, I'd look forward to trying their other creative creations first. We tried ordering from their website before we got there, but it wasn't showing as anything available so we just walked in and ordered. The staff behind the counter were really sweet and they were able to get our sandwiches out in less than 10 minutes. They set up a few high top tables outside if you'd like to eat there as well. If you are a sandwich and wrap lover like me, I definitely think this spot is worth checking out. The prices were around $17-18. A quality lunch for two for under $40. Definitely go earlier in the day to avoid the potential of making the trip and being sold out.

The Montana

I went to The Hornet in person and ordered The Montana. The sandwich was hella hearty with meat on a sourdough roll. The menu seems to change every once in awhile so I'll be back to check out the other options. There's 2 tables outside if you want to eat the sandwich right there. It's nice that this place is located in a bottle shop, London Market, so you have the option of getting a nice craft beer to go with the sandwich too.

Spicy Carlo

Amazing sandwich. They are currently in the back of a wine shop. Great wine and beer selection, but that's beside the point. They have some great sandwiches. The service is friendly and great and guiding. Grab and go place, nowhere to eat but who cares. Nice shop that is clean. I got the Spicy Carlo and it was fantastic. The meat was shaved, veggies fresh, focaccia spongy with great bite. Everything was in great proportion. High quality ingredients for a high quality sandwich. Would love to eat all of their everything.

Tri tip steak sando
Ryan B.

Preordered the tri tip sando for pickup. The sandwich counter is conveniently located in the back of London Market. It was ready early, nicely packaged and I was thanked. The sando seemed to be toasted in a panini press, the steak was sliced to perfection and everything had proper proportions including the red pepper and chimichurri sauce. A+ and I will return to try the crab sando

French dip

The hornet is actually located inside London market liquor store. Service was pretty fast by the time I finished my lap around the store looking at all the cool wine and whiskey my sando was ready. they recommended the French dip and it was sooooo good! Can't wait to try all the other sandos they have.

Spicy Pops w/ rotisserie chicken. Delicious!

Excellent sandwich! Spicy Pops. Rotisserie chicken was tender (not at all dry), perfect combination of ingredients with great flavor, great bread. Fresh ingredients. Expect to wait (mine was 20 mins) but SO worth it. Or order online. Very friendly service. A couple small tables outside.

Cesar wrap

New spot with some phenomenal sandwiches! I have been back once a week since my first trip. Personal favorite is the Cesar wrap, I personally like to add a bit of crispy bacon for the added texture. Seriously don't sleep on the Cesar, BEST IN SF! Also, the portions are HUGE! Can't go wrong at this joint. Grab a Sammie, grab a beer, wine, bottle. Whatever tickles your pickle (no pun intended).

The Hornet is hands down one of the best sandwich spots in Pacific Heights. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and specials for everyone. The flavors are on point, and you can tell they put real care into every sandwich. Definitely my new go-to in the neighborhood!

"Spicy Carlo" sandwich

A local favorite! Cool little sandwich shop nested in The London Market. High quality ingredients, great portion size and a really nice staff. I got the "Spicy Carlo" with fresh Acme bread and Molinari meats. The menu rotates weekly - this week they also had the "Crabby Patty" and the "Chicken Caesar Wrap".

Alma's Hot and Spicy was also a winner, as was the Giants. Kudos for having simple sandwiches with the option to make as weird and customizable as is reasonable! Definitely one of the best I've tried and just elevated the sandwich as a whole. 10/10 might have to grab two next time I'm in the city!

I got the breakfast sandwich which was delicious, and my friend ordered the turkey sandwich which they also loved. One thing to note is that they don't allow substitutions or modifications, so just be aware of that going in. It's more of a deli/grocery-style spot, so there isn't much seating, just a few tables and chairs outside. But it's super close to Dolores Park, so we usually just grab our sandwiches and head there to eat. The chocolate chip cookie was also a standout. It's more of a brown butter, dark chocolate situation, rich but really well balanced, and the perfect sweet treat after the sandwich. Since we came right before closing, they even gave us the last cookie for free, which was such a nice surprise!! The staff was friendly and made great conversation. Would definitely go back.

For example, some sandwiches are served on a crunchy focaccia bread. My only critique is that the sandwiches are kind of small for the price you pay and the meat portions are small.

You start in the back toward the center to place your order, then move to line up on the left side to pick it up and add toppings to hot sandwiches. After that, you bring everything to the front to pay. Quite few people, us included, were a little unsure where to go next. The sandwiches made up for it. I got the tri tip special with garlic butter and swapped the Swiss for pepperjack. The meat was sliced thin and really tender, and the garlic butter a perfect addition. I'm not usually big on sauces, but they have a good variety of house options if that's your thing. We'll definitely be back. I was also happy to see they have another location in San Bruno.

While I didn't get selected for tickets to the PGA Masters Golf Tournament, that's not going to stop me from making pimento cheese sandwiches at home. Sandy's sells this in a cup, pint, and I believe a quart size. I got a cup ($9) of their pimento cheese, and paired it with milk bread at home, and it was so tasty. Great texture, slightly spicy, really solid pimento cheese. A cup was enough to make 3-4 sandwiches at home. Great staple to have for a quick lunch at home. Egg salad, I got the pint ($16), this was really solid too, although I added some additional salt and pepper to taste. The pint is great for family, easily can make 5-6 sandwiches with the amount of a pint. Honestly a cup order would've been good for me. Egg salad is one of those things I don't want to make myself, so thankfully Sandy's sells theirs lol If you are looking for an affordable way to make tasty sandwiches at home, and like egg salad and pimento cheese like me, definitely worth checking out to satisfy the craving. They have them packaged up for take home, so was able to get in and out in less than a couple minutes.
