Ok, I know some people are allergic to The Marina but hear me out... Bottles & Bites (opened last year) is not just your typical "corner store" in the city. They bill themselves as a NYC style bodega with SF twists...serving Chopped Cheese and Shawarma. AND, you can enjoy your grub with a cold beer on tap at one of their picnic tables outside. AND, the staff's welcoming hospitality and vibes feels makes you feel comfortable and not like you're out of place. We visited after Presidio Tunnel Tops for an early Sunday dinner and was surprised at how quiet it was. F O O D * Backhome Shawarma Wrap: ($17) Tender, flavorful marinated chicken breast wrapped with garlicky toum, nutty tahini, and tangy pickles in a griddled tortilla. While the wrap isn't cut into bites as your typical "backhome style", it doesn't take away from the flavor...it hits! * Chopped Cheese ($19) A classic NYC bodega staple: seasoned ground beef is cooked on the flat top with chopped onions, American cheese is melted on top, and piled into a toasted Kaiser roll. Think cheeseburger but in sandwich form. BOMB. Rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying with all those flavorful beef juices soaking into the toasted Kaiser roll without making it soggy. The bun stayed crisp on the outside and held together until the very last bite. Their SF twist with crisp romaine, tomatoes, and pickles added freshness and helped cut through the richness. S E R V I C E Shoutout to Reyan (sp?) for the exceptional hospitality. He was genuinely warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. When I couldn't reach the top shelf to grab a LaCroix, he came running over to help. He also brought our food out to us, made sure we had plenty of napkins on hand, and checked in to see if we needed anything else. Food came out quickly. A M B I A N C E The store is clean and organized with a extensive assortment of chips, candy, and bottled drinks. They have a good array of bottled spirits and several beers on tap. There's a couple of window stools inside and a handful of picnic tables outside. Overall, Bottles & Bites is a neighborhood gem in The Marina. Def worth hitting up if you find yourself in the area (Marina Green, Palace of Fine Arts, etc) or passing through to the North Bay. read more

Bottles & Bites - Backhome Chicken Shawarma Wrap ($17) + Chopped Cheese ($19) - Sandwiches Near Me - San Francisco, California

I just came back from New York, and this was definitely NY bodega style brought to SF! Came on 4th of July, looking for food after the failed GGB fireworks & walked right in. Saw Festus there and asked him what's good to get xD he said the burritos or the chopped cheese are good. We ordered the chopped cheese, & it did not disappoint. A good amount of cheese, flavorful! Pretty simple not too much in it. I'd say the size is a bit small compared to what I've had before, but it was enough for me. My boyfriend said it needed more sauce. I do wanna come back to try the other stuff! Street parking if you can find! read more

I was extremely excited to try this place because I pass by all the time due to having a garage nearby. It looks like they've honestly invested a lot of great time and effort into putting picnic tables and build a nice parklet . Everything looks nice and clean. Unfortunately, upon walking inside, the first thing I noticed was a bigger gentleman making sandwiches and wraps before I got a chance to look at the menu. I had eye contact with the guy and he stuck three fingers into his mouth, licking his fingers clean because he got some guacamole on them. Then he proceeded to stick his fingers in the deli meat and lettuce, finishing the wrap he was making I couldn't believe my eyes is this real life? My suggestion to the management staff or whoever owns this please check your cameras. I doubt that's the first time that gentleman's done that and that's a quick way to give your customers diarrhea or something worse. I really wanted to give this place a try, but I'm sorry. I have to tell people to avoid this place at this point. I'll update you if I ever get the courage to try this place. read more

Stopped by Bottles and Bites on Union Street and had their gluten-free tuna melt. Absolutely delicious! Unlike the small, dry gluten-free bread you typically get at sandwich shops, theirs was generously sized, lightly toasted on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside. It tasted just like regular bread! The sandwich was fantastic, and the staff were incredibly nice -- Jro (pronounced Hai-ro) who made tasty recommendations, Ray who shared a moment about taking pride in serving only the best gluten free bread, and Joseph who has a smile that warms the room. Highly recommend! read more

A nice breakfast bagel sandwich for a reasonable price. Stopped by on a Saturday late morning and it wasn't busy. The ambiance of the neighborhood bodega made it feel nice and homey. I ordered the B&B classic with bacon and it was ready pretty fast. It was loaded with egg, which I love in a breakfast sandwich. The bagel was nicely toasted, and there was a good amount of bacon in it. I'd come back here to try other things on the menu, since it seems like they have a wide array of different sandwich types. read more

Been wanting to try their sandwiches for so long and so happy I finally got to it! Came on a Saturday afternoon. They had an extensive menu, including sandwiches and breakfast items. You had the choice to order on a screen or order at the cashier. The inside had a little deli and then a lot of alcohol. There are a couple chairs inside and a couple tables outside. I ordered the pesto turkey on Dutch crunch and it only took about 5 minutes for it to be ready. The Dutch crunch was the perfect texture. The flavors of the sandwich were perfectly balanced. The sandwich itself is very filling, 1/2 was enough for a meal for me! Can't wait to try the other sandwiches. read more

Soooo excited when I heard there was a chopped cheese sandwich shop in the city. It's set up like a liquor store, similar to the bodegas in NYC where you can order a chopped cheese. The sandwich was good, but not exactly the same as NYC, it has a bit of a West Coast twist with lettuce and tomatoes. The bread could be better, and my only real complaint is the price. At $20 it's a bit steep; I wish the sandwich was bigger for that price. I can't say much about the service since you order at the cashier. Overall, it's a solid sandwich spot if you're in the area. There are a few picnic benches outside where you can enjoy your sandwich. read more

New bodega style corner store that has sandwiches, wine, beer on tap, coffee, sandwiches and smoothies! Smoothies were amazing, very fresh. I'd prefer the Wild Berry over Palmetto berry drinks. The chopped cheese was a 10/10 ($19) I'll definitely be back when I feel like splurging. The sizes for both are big enough to share. Outdoor seating is super convenient if you're with a group of friends. *Catering is also offered* read more

The social media posts about the chopped cheese here are 100% true! It is so good! While not listes on their inside menu, they post about it on their window. Jam packed with meat and cheese. The sauce/spread blends so well. Bunch of lettuce for freshness. Nice kick from the peppers. I would get that all the time. Super friendly. Nice little corner bodega. read more

Bottles & Bites - CHOPPED CHEESE - Sandwiches Near Me - San Francisco, California

After escaping to the east coast (New York City, Jersey, & Philly), I returned to my roots and visited my hometown of San Francisco just a few weeks later. This is where I visited a small hole-in-the-wall deli that gives you a taste of New York and is none other than "Bottles & Bites". Located on Union St (and adjacent to Octavia St) in the heart of the Marina District (my old stomping grounds as a kid), this place has been serving up a variety of sandwiches, salads, breakfast options, coffee, smoothies, and much more dating back to mid-2025. Even on their menu flyer, they are dubbed "A New York Bodega with a San Francisco TOUCH & LOVE". I came here during the afternoon on Saturday 11/15/2025 at around 2:45pm. Since it was the tail-end of the lunch rush, I was able to walk right up and place my order. Keep in mind that this place is quite small and can accommodate seating for a maximum of 6 customers. However, there are a couple of outdoor tables and chairs on the more comfortable San Francisco days. They do have quite a bit of sealed drinks, snacks, and even a ton of non-food items; much like what you'd find in an actual New York bodega. The hours are quite reasonable as they are open Mon-Thu from 7am-9pm, Fri-Sat from 7am-11pm, and Sunday from 8am-8pm. Since I was starving, I decided to go with one of their fully loaded sandwiches, the "Eat-aliano". This consisted of mortadella, Italian salami, prosciutto, provolone cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions. Since I was in the city, I had to go with sourdough as my bread of choice. My lady ordered their "Chicken Caesar Wrap" as her meal. Within 5 minutes, my sandwich and her wrap is brought out to us. I will say that portions are quite huge but the real winner is the bread. It was made to perfection while all the meats & veggies were packed in nicely. The only drawback is that this was a bit pricey (at nearly $18) but you are in a popular touristy area of San Francisco. I will say that "Bottles & Bites" has a lot going for it; a huge variety of menu options to choose from as well as prime location in the Marina District. Since they just opened only 4 months prior to my visit here, we will see if they can withstand the test of time and be here for the long haul. With above average customer service, delicious sandwiches that left me feeling full and happy, I am giving this small business a respectable four-star rating. read more

It's really late on Halloween night and me and my girl were bar hopping in SF! We stopped in to get sandwiches because the signs in the windows said they were famous! Think like a bodega but better! Lots of sandwich options and tons of drink choices like a mix of a gas station and bodega minus the gas! The sandwiches were expensive but HUGE! Check out bottles & bites! read more

I was so excited about this place but was slightly disappointed. The sandwiches themselves didn't have enough meat or fixings in them. I got chipotle mayo in mine which was really good, however, nothing else about the sandwich stood out. On the other hand, the place was really clean, the staff was nice and they had a great drink/chip selection. I will be coming back to try again, but overall I was a bit disappointed because I feel that it was hyped up on social media. read more

Love the concept of this place!!! Especially because everything else in this neighborhood is all these fancy little coffee shops or açaí bowls, etc and sometimes all you need is a good simple bagel or wrap without all the extra fluff and trendiness. The basic!!! I tried the chopped cheese which I thought was really good, but thought it was odd that it came in a round bun instead roll. It is a little on the pricey side as well in addition to their overall menu on the pricey side, but it is somewhat expected in this neighborhood. Staff is super friendly and great people. read more

I've had the chicken Caesar wrap here before and it was genuinely delicious, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Today, while my wrap was being prepared, two cooks were finishing it on the flat top and had just toasted the wrap when another cook came up and dumped a large bowl of raw chicken pieces directly next to my finished wrap. It was genuinely nearly touching, and I was concerned that raw chicken juices could have come into contact with my food. This is basic food safety. There was no reason the raw chicken couldn't have waited until my wrap was finished and removed. Seeing raw poultry handled right next to ready-to-eat food is careless and honestly disgusting. It completely ruined my appetite and made me question whether I could safely eat the food I paid for. I understand kitchens get busy, but food safety should never be compromised. I won't be ordering this again unless I see major improvements in how raw and cooked foods are handled. read more

Writing this review is a bummer but something has to be said - you can't call yourselves a bodega and serve a BEC as lackluster as these. Store bought Thomas bagels don't cut it, the bacon is always undercooked and the eggs are always overcooked - it's just flat out not good. I've tried three now, same result every time. There is a proper way to make these, east coast style, and this just isn't cutting it. It's a bummer, because everything else is wonderful! Super friendly staff, quick service, open late, and other menu items are solid. But man - the BEC needs to improve, stat. It's the most important menu item. I'm rooting for you guys, but something's gotta give!! read more

I saw an instagram foodie check Bottles & Bites out and it looked really good. I stopped in and ordered the same item that inspired my visit, the B&B Classic - 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, cheese.with chipotle aioli and garlic sauce. It was tasty and a meal itself. I also tried the cheesesteak sandwich. It was good but like a fellow Yelper mentioned, the $19 price tag seemed a little steep. The service was great and very friendly. read more

Unfortunately very disappointing. I was excited to try the chopped cheese, which everyone seems to get here, and was let down immediately. The price for this sandwich is absurd ($20). I'm aware things are expensive in San Francisco, but this is honestly just crazy. Their other items were much more reasonably priced. The chopped cheese was the messiest thing I've ever eaten, definitely best eaten in privacy... It immediately fell apart when you picked it up and was a bit of a disaster. I could've excused this, but it had very little flavor and left a lot to the imagination. The bread was stale and hard to bite. Despite the food, the staff were very, very nice. All big smiles and extremely friendly. read more

Stopped by today to grab a sando. The staff were very warm and friendly. It looks like you can order on a screen or with a person. I got a latte and it was really good highly recommend. I also got the California. I love a turkey pesto plus avocado! The sand which was huge turned out to be my one meal for the day. The sandwich was pretty good but didn't blow me away. Newish neighborhood sandwich spot. Call ahead if you don't want to wait. I always get the eataliano. Very tasty.

I was excited to try this place because I saw Festus Ezeli's post. However, I was disappointed with the overall experience. For starters, my Breakfast Burrito wasn't grilled (pics below), like one often sees at other eateries. I thought maybe this was normal, but when I looked at their IG, I saw the wraps were grilled and an influencer's post showed her Breakfast Burrito was grilled. I ended up taking it home and grilling it myself. I also had to add salt since it tasted like none was added to the mixings. We ordered our food for pickup since we were running errands in the neighborhood, but when we went inside, there was no pick-up line. You had to wait along with the other patrons who were making fresh orders. I think it would be helpful to have a separate pick-up line like other eateries do, since that food is ready to go. Making those pick-up orders wait in the same line will only guarantee lukewarm or cold food if it's really busy. Once we got to the cashier, she was handed a finished sandwich by the cook for another customer. She tried calling out said order, but the music inside was so loud, the patron didn't hear the callout - and this person was inside, maybe 10-15ft away. The cashier went outside, then inside before finally tracking her down. This is telling because the store itself is not very big. It's comparable to an intimate cafe, size-wise. Playing music is fine, but if patrons inside can't even hear their order - forcing the cashier to walk around, which in-turn delays all the people in line, then it's probably too loud. Even the people standing around waiting were shouting at each other just to conversate. I'd like to try their other sandwiches, but my first experience was a let down, unfortunately. Hopefully they polish things up, because I'd like to give them another visit and update my rating. read more

There is a new sandwich spot in the neighborhood and I was excited to finally try it out. I went during lunch when it was busy and ordered the Eat Aliano and Al's Special. I think there might have been a mix up, since the sandwich I received had avocado and did not seem to match the Eat Aliano. Both sandwiches were a bit light on the meat and not as toasty as I had hoped, even though I asked for them toasted. They were also a little messy in how they were put together. What stood out to me the most though was the food handling. The person making sandwiches kept their gloves on when moving to the register and touching the card machine. While I was relieved no one paid with cash at that moment, it still felt unsanitary and took away from my experience. I really wanted to love this place since it is new to the neighborhood, but overall it left me a little underwhelmed. Hopefully with time they will smooth out these details, because the menu has potential. read more

If you're serious about finding the best chopped cheese in the city, this is it. No debate. That first bite? Unreal. The beef is chopped fine and cooked perfectly so it stays juicy without being greasy. The cheese is fully melted into the meat -- not just slapped on top -- and the roll is soft and sturdy enough to handle everything. The balance is perfect: savory, cheesy, fresh crunch from the lettuce, a little sweetness from the tomato, and just enough sauce to tie it all together. read more
