The baked goods are so very bad. Everything is overbaked or underbaked and the presentation is horrendous! The restaurant is dirty and the service is slow and unfriendly. I politely asked for a new loaf of Miche bread as the one they gave me was so overcooked the inside was hollow. The owner came out and made a complete spectacle. It's a small French bakery cafe. It looks like they're mostly do business as spot for light meals and snacks, but you can also buy whole loaves of bread, which, if the bread my sandwich was made on is any indicator, are pretty good. I grabbed lunch and had a shrimp sandwich, a slice of chocolate torte, and an iced americano. The sandwich and torte were very good. The sandwich was simple: shrimp, spinach, tomatoes, and cheese on a baguette with a minimal amount of spread just to tie it together. The ingredients were very fresh and perfectly balanced. I really liked the "neatness" of this, both in the careful assembly and clean, healthy taste. I almost got a different dessert but I was drawn in by the pretty chocolate torte and it turned out to be an excellent choice with a very pure dark chocolate flavour and smooth texture. Creamy like a mousse, but not airy. According to their website, this was voted "best in Vancouver" and I can see why! I didn't care for the americano, the espresso had a bit of a stale taste. It wasn't offensively bad or undrinkable but I wouldn't recommend. I had decaf so it's possible their regular espresso is better, but I always drink decaf so it's not like I'm not used to the taste. Good prices! The shrimp sandwich was only $9 which surprised me. I don't remember the exact breakdown between the torte and americano but the total was about $19, which I think is fair. The space inside is, again, small, and mostly just functional, not much decoration to speak of, and inside was a little stuffy on a very hot day, but I actually found the outdoor seating to be more comfortable, the shade kept it surprisingly cool. It might not be anything fancy but I personally find this environment a little more approachable than the hyper-polished look of a lot of French cafes, and the lack of ambiance is made up for by the cheerful service and, of course, good food. read more

I wanted to like this place so bad because it's so close to my house. This review is for their almond croissant which was stale and not buttery delicious at all. I also got a cafe au lait and I guess I made the wrong choice and just wasn't a fan. The woman who helped me wasn't overly friendly or helpful and my whole experience was just rather lack-lustre. One of our favourite authentic French bakery in town. We absolutely love their buttery and soft croissant. The owner has small batches prep throughout the day so in most cases, it is fresh out of the oven or still warm and super yummy. If you are into super flaky croissant there are not but I highly urge you give it a try. Oh, and their baguette is seriously the best and it is exactly what I had in France. There is also other treats there. I am also a huge fan of their feta and spinach croissant as well as their ham and cheese. When I mentioned to the owner I definitely need to leave a review and he said, "You know, it is only in North America people leave reviews". He said in France if someone didn't find something particularly impressive they just won't go back. He has a point. I do noticed it is our culture here and I also want to take the opportunity to say, "If any Yelpers have an issue with a business, try to talk to them first because this is a basic step instead of just writing a negative review. It is Covid and many businesses are fighting to stay open so if you don't have anything nice to say, better not say it and be considerate about it. It's good and reasonably priced - very French. Pastries are great - usual suspects and also sausage rolls. Bread very good and I appreciate they have a Demi baguette as an option. Sandwiches made every day and soup is good. Lots of sweet options also. The only reason four stars? It can be a bit inconsistent as sometimes the pastries and quiche are a bit burnt. i have been to Plaisir sucré a couple times over the years - the experience in terms of customer service has been hit or miss. but i cannot fault the quality of the baked goods that are served here. you can get your daily bread here, as well as sweet treats such as tartes, meringue, tiramisù... all of which are solid and delicious. a plus : if you would like to practise your french, the staff are all francophone and would gladly serve you in french. of course; that service comes with the correct french attitude, so beware ;) read more

Rare low prices,.. decent stuff and the people there really make me feel like I'm traveling,.. in the good way. They play sports on the TV that only Europeans would like (the Tour, tennis etc.) and interact with the customers like real friendly people. They also bake great stuff. Is it my #1 bakery? No. But it is good and feels like a real place where real people work in a place that has very little neighbourhood feeling anymore so I want to support it. read more

we visited because of the good ratings posted. I ordered a butter croissant, an almond croissant and a pain au chocolate for take away. The young girl at the counter did not offer a smile nor a thank you, where as I worked in retail myself so I tried to be as pleasant as can be ( I was ready to leave a tip but decided she didn't earn it ). Upon getting home I discovered instead of an almond croissant, I was given a ham and cheese! Not the best experience I was hoping at all - and the butter croissant was " heavy " and disappointing so we won't be back. read more

The croissants are wonderful but the service is horrible. I have come here many times and had to walk out due to service. There's usually only 1 person serving customers and the wait time is very long as they make lattes or other drinks. A couple times, like today, the person serving is standing around talking to their friends who have come in and they ignore customers even if they're the only person serving. Plaisir Sucre is a cute little French Bakery. I visited Plaiser Sucre with my boyfriend this morning for breakfast. They serve sandwiches, soups, teas, and many little pastries.The owner was VERY friendly. He made us feel welcomed and gave us a few giggles. We ordered one shrimp sandwich and one turkey sandwich with a thai soup and london fog tea. The london fog was made amazingly, not too sweet, served in a little mug :). The sandwiches took us off guard because they were HUGE. Each sandwich was served on a separate baguette! The shrimp sandwich had 7 giant shrimps, tomatoes, fresh greens and a nice salad dressing-like sauce to compliment the shrimp. The turkey sandwich was overflowing with delicious ingredients: turkey deli meat, cheese, tomatoes, avocados, cucumber, olives (forgive me if i'm forgetting anything else ;p lol). The thai soup tasted surprisingly very authentic, so full of flavour. The soup was also full of yummy ingredients, including giant shrimp (soo good). Overall, this is an amazing place to come by for breakfast or lunch. I recommend ordering 1 sandwich shared between two people; Six hours have passed since my visit and I am still full from all the bread from the sandwiches :) It's a nice full feeling, full of love, or course ;p read more

You have to come here just for the experience ! The owner is a super friendly french guy who really gives u the french experience at this cafe ! The sandwiches are amazing, the desserts are better and the croissants are to die for ! He bakes his own bread and also supplies it to the restaurants/cafes in the area. And the bread is no-doubt delicious ! There's a wide variety of pre-made cold and hot sandwiches including vegetarian and seafood options. The prices are really good for this area ($6-$8). Place smells wonderful and everything looks delicious! Unfortunately, when it came my time to order (last person in line) - the lady excused herself politely and went to go clean tables. Ok - 5-7 minutes later, she gets back and excuses to clean the counter - ??? Ok? Finally, she is done and have the chance to order 2 chocolate croissants to go. The best dessert/pastry place I have visited and discovered in Kitsilano, Vancouver so far. Check out their chocolate mousse cake/apple turnover/chocolate eclair/almond croissant etc. are incredible! He does the best croissants ever!!!!! We love coming to this French cafe in our neighbourhood...the owner is a delight and has a great sense of humour and speaks English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese!!!!! I could called it the International Cafe Paris! It is super family friendly with kids to enter this Vancouver restaurant and find a foam-tiled play area and plenty of toys to play. They enjoy playing and eating there that I can relax, take advantage of the free wifi, and catch up with friends in person..... Resume: Everything is made on site and with passion. We came here and grabbed some desserts to go, note there is only street parking and can be tough to find as Arbutus is very busy. We ordered a couple of macarons, a lemon tart and a cookie. Our favourite was the lemon tart, a great balance of sweet and sour. The macarons were okay, but there are better around the city. The cookie was forgettable. I had to try this place after reading all of the hype. I was greeted with a friendly "Bonjour" by the (two) proprietors and a *gasp* over my Sb tea. I apologized profusely, and told them that I was on a "mint tea" fix. Well, wouldn't you know it but they produced the cutest mint tea for me to try next time? I promised to return for that and was embarrassed that I'd actually walked in holding that cultish cup. I ordered the biggest ham-brie baguette that I'd ever eaten, and now I won't be buying dinner. It was delicious and flaky, although I suspect that their "country ham" contains nitrates. If you were like me and could care less about nitrates in deli ham, read a bit about it, and you will attempt to eliminate them from your diet. Anyway, I loved the sandwich but did not appreciate the mayo coating. I forgot to say "no mayo" and I wondered why they'd ruin such a glorious sandwich with so much mayo. Luckily, I returned home and proceeded to scrape it off. I noticed that some photos of baguettes on here included tomatoes; mine did not. That was cool, but I would have loved a bit of avocado or even nothing in lieu of mayo. It was the freshest bread I had consumed in a long time, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, tried the vanilla macaron. It was quite chewy and cold, but he explained to me that they had to be kept refrigerated? I still enjoyed it, but it was not as tasty nor as pretty as the room temp. ones that I had marveled over at Hawksworth. It was quite similar to those from Soirette, and I've yet to visit Thierry. So in total, $10 with a generous tip was well worth a sandwich (and macaron) that might have served two, had I not been so gluttonous. I left with an "Au revoir" from the two friendly men. Food: 4.5 Service: -2.5 Since my tagline about wanting to "be a Frenct pastry" when I grow up was featured in today's "Yelp Gets Baked (Goods)" newsletter, I thought it would be only fair I go on a pastry hop. Before I ordered an apple pastry (forgot the name) to go, I took a picture of the display case and the Owner was instantly paranoid. He asked me in a condescending tone "Why are you taking pictures? Are you starting a bakery?" Shocked, I was like, no...(why would anyone take pics nowadays??? OBVIOUSLY TO SHARE THEM AND RECOMMEND THEIR FRIENDS!) And he was like, what are you doing with the pictures? I was like, I'm sharing them! And he was like, WHERE? I told him I maintain an Instagram account. He was like, what is instagram?? (continuing to be condescending) If the shop wasn't so empty I would have just walked out but at this point I felt bad and felt obligated to get something. I asked for the pastry to go and he AGAIN asked, "ARE YOU IN THE BAKING BUSINESS?" I was like, no...His was completely offended at this moment for whatever reason. Just looked absolutely annoyed. I know when I was in Paris you weren't allowed to take pictures which is understandable because each pastry chef had their own specialities. But at Plaisir Sucre, they make croissants, pastries, cakes, and cookies. EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT A CROISSANT LOOKS LIKE. The owner needs to relax - badly. When I was about to say "hot chocolate" The lady who was the server, scolded me because I ordered 3 different things at the same time. It's my first time that I got scolded for that reason so i was not sure how to respond... After she served sandwiches and croissant, she told me now she can take the order for drinks. She then advised me to order one by one as she has only 2 hands to multi task.. so my tip is to order things one at the time...... The crust isn't quite crunchy enough to make a big mess, but the pillowy softness of the inside makes up for it. Nice, relaxing French cafe - grab a cafe au lait and sit at the window bar stools, watching Kits locals stroll by and in for their sugar fix. Oh, they've also got about a half dozen selection of macaron flavours, $1.25 each. Got one of each and liked the chocolate and pistachio best. I'll start with the downsides just to get them out of the way. In need of a midday pickup in the form of a cookie besides shortbread because, like me, you don't understand why anyone would eat those dusty lardy barely-any-taste breeds of cookies? Go elsewhere. Do not buy the chocolate version or a cinnamon one or any other flavours I tried hoping that it'll stop being shortbread. It's shortbread, Rachel, you need to accept that. In a rush? Tread carefully. This will rarely be your lunch hour stop. This is a very laid back, very neighbourhood French bakery and you will often spend your time waiting behind what you think is a line and turns out to be just regulars chatting with the baker. Peak in and it's empty? Got time to spare? Really want delicious things? Then oh my goodness you need to pop in. I don't even LIKE sausage rolls. I LOVE theirs, upon following my nose to a coworker's lunch. Feel like weeping silently into your meal? Try the croissant. Better yet, try the almond one or the ham one. That ham one. Oh man. Yes. Buttery to a higher level, this bakery knows what it is doing. Sandwiches, soups.. All on point. I also really love their coffee and drinks - I'd go as far to say they beat the pants off their neighbour Tree's across the street. Not only are they nearly half the price, their chai is more flavourful without needless sugar and the same goes for their London Fog. Staff is another major highlight. There is a reason people get caught up talking. Everyone there is bright, personable and genuinely interested in your day. You'll walk in to a lot of laughter and the atmosphere really reflects it. Everyone, including them, is happy to be there. So, if I were to ignore the fact I only visit on a half hour break at work and don't have time to spare, this bakery is a hell of a gem. read more

Oh Fabrice! I can rave about this bakery enough!!! Everything is absolutely amazing from his shortbread cookies, to his pain au chocolat. EVERYTHING!!! Sandwiches are amazing and made fresh to order not sitting behind the glass pre made. I also eat something in there and then get a bunch more to go. His prices are extremely reasonable. Actually dirt cheap considering the high quality ingredients he uses, he doesn't chintz out on anything. Oh and for all you complainers about the owner. I discovered this place a a few months ago and was impressed with their products. Since then, though, the quality of their baked goods has declined. The breads and baguettes are not baked properly: they must have been taken out of the oven too soon because they are chewy and soggy. The madelaines have weird shapes and were probably made by someone in a hurry. Their "pain au chocololat," aka danish, was soggy, tasteless and gave me a stomach ache. I threw away most of it. Their coffee is acidic and barely drinkable. Whenever I ordered, the staff didn't listen to me because they are talking to other staff members. They might have also not heard well because a big-screen TV was on full blast. Consequently mistakes and miscommunications occurred almost each time I was there. Their counter was so disorganized and cluttered with bags of different sizes, baked goods to be picked up by other customers that I had to ask were my merchandize was after I had paid. All the while the women behind the counter was busy slicing tomatoes (sic). That happened each time I was there. All in all the place is a big disappointment and I won't shop there again. read more

4.5 stars, not 4. This place is just about perfect for me except the lunch menu isn't that big, so selection is limited. The pastries however are to die for! There is a much larger variety of goodies to choose from, all of which are fantastic. I must also add that their breads are one of the best I've ever had. I typically order a sandwich from here and for me the best part of it is the bread. My mom liked it so much that she bought a loaf of the bread used in our lunch. Another great thing about Plaisir Sucre is that it is much more affordable than other French cafes such as Crepe and Cafe (although I do love them) and Kerrisdale's Faubourg. Their lemon tarts are 1/2 the price of Crepe and Cafe's!!! I must say, when you feel like you come in here, you feel like you are in France...not that I've ever been, but I have studied the language and culture before. In addition to that they have French music playing, TV5 is airing on the TV, and the workers are loudly talking in French. Somehow those aspects just add to the authenticity. Perhaps the best thing about this place is Fabrice, the mastermind behind this little gem. He takes his business very seriously in every aspect possible including quality of the food and pastries as well as interacting with his customers. Was advised to come here by JS from the Sutton Hotel in downtown Vancouver. Met the owner Fabrice he was very welcome and friendly. His pastries were amazing.
