I've been wanting to try this place for a while - ever since I heard about the Weber grill being hacked into a pizza oven. Sadly, they no longer use the hacked oven, but a 'regular' pizza oven now. I came with a group and tried 5 or 6 pizzas along with a couple salads. All of the food was good as they used fresh ingredients in tasty combinations. The pizza crust is very flatbread like - thin and crispy with not a lot of chew. I'd say the downside to the pizzas is that the thin crust sometimes got soggy if there were too many wet ingredients on the pie. read more

Stalking Twitter, seeking him out, huddled next to a Frankenweber and a long line of hungry pizza goers, standing on the streets, chasing that pizza horse...in the event he wasn't out, I'd have to seek and find some other pizza from a store, establishment, or truck. Occasionally I'd try to make a pizza myself, which never worked; hunter's aren't cooks. it was demanding and no more. The PizzaHacker opens a brick and mortar. In its soft launch I came in to seek the pizza I've always wanted. There it was on the menu. Labeled on the board as the "Rocket Man". Arugula, lemon, chili pepper, mozzarella and and egg. Cooked, charred every so gently on the sides, and on the table swiftly. This pizza is beyond explanation and is all you'd ever want. There are a few other pies on the menu and a salad...but I don't imagine not getting the Rocket Man unless it's no longer seasonal. Till then, a quick walk to La Lengua is all I need till my next pie. read more

Really really good pizza and an awesome venue. This place hosts a free comedy night every Tuesday so it's a great day to go there and grab a pizza with friends and listen to some really stellar comedy (better than any other free shows I've been to). I tried both the margarita and marinara pizzas and both are great. The Margherita is thin but cheesy enough and the crust is extremely crispy. The sauce is extremely tasty as well. The marinara pizza is incredible. I'm not a huge fan of pizzas without cheese, but this pizza is an exception. The sauce is super flavorful and goes great with the crust. They also sell pitchers of rosè and white wine and have tons of options for pizzas, making it a great place to go! read more

Supporting local restaurants is a great thing to do, so I really wanted pizzahacker to be my local pizza place. But ideals only go so far - the place is open on random days, and, when you try to place an order, as I did tonight, the person who picked up said "the restaurant is too busy" and when I tried to ask a question he hung up on me. These restaurants (think Saru, etc.) that prioritize disrespecting their customers over a reasonable business model aren't worth our support. They are the reason that local restaurants so often fail - great product, terrible management, terrible service. I felt like pizza when I was in the area recently and Pizzahacker appeared on my radar. The space is interesting (communal tables, etc.), the service was attentive, and there was a hipster vibe that was acceptably subtle. The pizza itself was pretty good. It's made in a wood-fired oven and the dough had a nice, unique taste. I did feel it was a tad bit salty, but not intolerably so. One plus worth noting: Pizzahacker offers a Lambrusco frizzante (semi-sparking) red wine. If you're not a wine snob you might not be familiar with Lambrusco, but it's definitely a wine you should get acquainted with and it goes superbly well with pizza. read more

In my head I know PizzaHacker is more of a 4-star spot, but I honestly can't stop thinking about going back, so I had to bump it up. They have very few pre-designed pizza options and they're all Italian style ... but if that's your jam, then PizzaHacker is a top SF spot. The only one I bother getting is the margherita pizza. The crust is this, but has good flavor. The sauce is nice and tart (and I think made in-house). And if you ask nicely, they'll put on the spicy diavolo sauce or calabrian chilies to suite your heat needs. Do yourself a favor and ask for calabrian chilies ... it makes my mouth water thinking how tasty they make the pizza with their heat and tartness. A unique take on thin crust pizza in the city. They use a sourdough for the pizza base which pairs very well with their thin crust style pizzas. The pizzas are crispy with just the right amount of chewiness and a slight tangy flavor that just works. I'm a fan of thin crust pizza so this place is high on my list of pizza places. The pizza selections are pretty simple, they have a handful of signature pizzas. I recommend the short bridge and the rocket man. The short bridge is a their take on a pepperoni sausage and mushroom, they of course use fancier toppings but it's the same idea. Very tasty and well balanced for sauce cheese and toppings. What really surprised me was the rocket man, typically I don't like egg or arugula on my pizza but this one worked. The rocket man has a fresh egg, arugula, garlic, lemon, and fresh mozzarella. The crispy chewy crust really works well with the flavors of lemon and garlic and the nuttiness of the arugula pairs well with the mozzarella and egg. I don't like to deviate from the typical pizza but this one was good. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the place is very casual. The pizza here is definitely worth a try read more

Date of visit 6/24/2023. We were there to celebrating my daughter because she fully recovered from 4 wisdom's teeth extraction! But what she got was sadness! We will forgive but we will never forget what you did to us! Food not sure how it was because our food never never never showed up after placed 3 pizzas and kale salad (estimated time at restaurant 45-60 minutes time). We were seat at table number 6. After 30 minutes placing our orders. We were asked if it okay for our family to shared our tiny table. We we're okay with it. An extra chair added. Now our table of 4 becomes a table of 7. The more the merrier. The 3 friendly strangers Caucasian/African/Western ! We are Asian, family of 4 (2 high school girls and parents)! The best mixture table and fun Saturday you can ever asked for! 40 minutes passed, the 3 friendly strangers got their kale salad. Our kale salad showed up on our table after. Than their 2 pizzas showed up on the table and our 3 PIZZAS never make it to the table because they didn't remembered us (hopefully not because we looked different (Asian and proud)! We went to the cashier and asked for the restaurant manager. No body admitted if there is such manager there! The staffs were back fighting with each other! I told them that I am unhappy and not satisfied with my service as the people that seat 30 minutes later than us got their pizza/salad. But our food no where to be found!!! We were disappointed and saddened by this event! We informed the restaurant that we refused to have them continuously not respecting us or treating us poorly. DINNER REVIEW Good pizza, good vibes I came here as I was staying nearby and this is their neighborhood pizza joint. The place is dimly-lit and full of long banquet-style tables where it's open seating. We went on a Sunday night and there were maybe 5-10 others in the restaurants so no trouble finding seating. We ordered two salads and two pizzas. I was really impressed with the salads, especially for a pizza joint. The Intermezzo Salad came with a delicious, sweet poppyseed dressing and the Kale Caesar was fresh-tasting (with sourdough croutons and dressing you know is made in house). As far as pizzas go, we had the top shelf margherita and the Yo Vinny. Both were gone within minutes. They clearly use fresh ingredients here. I wouldn't say the crust is "to die for" here as it is at my favorite pizza places but it was not average by any means. Just very good. The guy that took our order was pretty rude and tried to overcharge us. First of, the address says Bernal Heights, but it's actually Mission street, right opposite the Freakin Chicken place. Parking is a NIGHTMARE. BUT, once you step in, you forget all that pain and irritation of driving around four or five times, and begin to soak in everything about this place. The pizzas are GOOOOOOD! The table hosts are so sweet and friendly and kind and patient! The place is kid friendly. Seriously kid friendly! Be careful of the benches if you're going with some elderly. Rocket man pizza - SO good. The egg in the center is to die for, nice and runny! The arugula is another bonus. The Margarita pizza - good, tasty, fresh sauce. I loved that they have hot pepper paste on the table! I loved the corner shelf with bottles of canned tomato and canned peppers! Visual treat!! I would say the pizza base is more like thin crust. Vibe: chill, casual. Think outdoor-style benches and food served on camping plates. Service: so pleasant. Our waiter was helpful and gave honest opinions on his recs on the menu, plus he gave us a free dessert as he heard us wondering on our way out whether our fave ice cream place was open (it wasn't). Food is great, I've never had a bad experience there, pretty delicious. Their salads are excellent too. I'm writing a review to specifically highlight the service. I've rarely experienced such a genuine will to make you have a great time. The staff is present, in the moment, despite the crowd, and will be not only sincerely kind but will absolutely whatever it takes for you to have an amazing time. My boyfriend and I were super excited to try Longbridge Pizza but the owner came out and told us the electricity was out! He was super bummed about it since it was a Saturday night and they just opened but he said his buddy had a place called PizzaHacker "with the same kind of dough" We sat around in our car looking at yelp for other options and 20 options later we ended with PizzaHacker -___- Should've just gone with it to begin with! We drove to Bernal Heights (it was crackin that night! WTF a line to get in everywhere. Whats happening to this neighborhood?!) and after finally finding parking, we still entertained ourselves with different options. We looked at BluePlate but I didn't like their menu and tried to get a table at the new ICHI location but there was a two hour wait (dafuq) so again, PizzaHacker it was! This place is communal seating only and its decorated with christmas lights and high ceilings so I felt like I was eating outside the whole time! They also have a chalk board wall that anyone can draw on and an open kitchen and very small bar area. We got the top shelf margherita (only 20 made a day!) and considered getting a salad. Their salad was $10 so our fat logic concluded we could practically get another pizza for that price so two pizzas it was! We got the Spinach Man 3? and that was by far my favorite. My boyfriend knew I would like it as soon as he bit into it because it was spicy aka way too spicy for him so he practically ate the entire marghertia himself. After having what is arguably the best pizza in the world in Italy, I pretty much stayed away from any and all pizza once I came back home. If that makes me a pizza snob, so be it. My family and I arrived during prime-time on a Friday night and after adding my name on the chalkboard, we waited about 15-20 minutes for a table to open up. PizzaHacker is all about the communal tables and casual dining all while offering fresh and organic pizzas and salads - my kinda place. We shared a "top shelf" margherita pizza ($15) and a medium kale caesar salad ($8), which were more than enough for 3 people although I think we could've had another pizza. The pizza was beyond better than what I expected. It was so similar to my beloved pizza in Florence and I wanted it all to myself. What I loved most about it was the sauce - it was fresh and just a little sweet. If you can't make a great margherita pizza, then something is wrong; PizzaHacker's is just right. While I loved the pizza, the real show-stopper was the kale caesar salad. I need to eat this every day. Do not skip out on ordering this salad! I know that PizzaHacker has been in Bernal Heights for awhile now but it is honestly a welcome addition to the neighborhood, more so now because the pizza place I've been going to for years has decided to stop delivering to this part of the city.
