I have been eager to try Pizza Wizard since I heard about their opening in the D&C and my first experience did not disappoint! I got a square pie and the crust was out of this world. It was thick but airy and light like a good loaf of bread, not thick and dense like most pizza dough. Beautiful flavor and texture on the bottom where it had just been kissed golden brown. The toppings on my pie were excellent. The cheese was really sharp and flavorful, much more of a bite than mozzarella. I'm thinking a mix of at least part provolone? They use the awesome thick cup-and-char pepperoni which I don't see as often since I moved from Buffalo the Rochester. The banana pepper had exactly the right heat to them, and the sausage was perfect, not greasy at all. This is bold after just a couple of slices, but I think this is the best pizza I've had in Rochester! read more

We were visiting Rochester and didn't realize so many restaurants shut down at or before 8 pm. We were scrambling to find a pizza place and stumbled upon Pizza Wizard. We called and they let us put in an order right before closing. They were very kind and stayed open a few minutes after closing to finish our larger order. We ordered the cheesy garlic bread and it was amazing! I wish I had ordered more! It alone was worth the visit! It is a must-order! Because we were ordering in a hurry we opted for all pepperoni pizzas. They were amazing! Our large family of 10 all enjoyed the pizza. It was truly unique and delicious. I wish we could have ordered it again before we left town! We will absolutely return when back in town! read more

Pizza Wizzad serves pretty unique pizza for this area. I believe it is "Detroit style" but don't know for sure. I have been for lunch a few times and have eaten inside and outside. They have a good lunchtime deal of 2 slices plus a drink for $7.50. I definitely recommend giving them a try! Only lost 1 star due to terrible parking situation. Basically you need to park illegally in neighbor's parking or on the street. read more

This place was recommended by my daughter's coworker as a great place for me when we visit since I'm gluten-free. He was right. I have never had a gluten-free pizza anything like this. Instead of the cardboard-like crusts I've come to expect, this one is thick, light, and fluffy. In addition, they have the best customer service I've experienced. There was some confusion over whether the crust is cauliflower (it's not), so they ended up comping our meal as my husband eats keto and was unable to eat the pizza. More for me! The pizza also stayed fresh for days, so on our way home I got another pizza to take home with me. They also let you select different pizza types from their menu, dividing the pizza depending on how many you choose. Can't wait to eat these! We will definitely return whenever we are passing through Rochester. read more

This was my first experience with Detroit style pizza so I cannot vouch for this being legit Detroit style pizza. I can however say that the pizza was really good. We ordered a couple of the 'roni squares, a veg square, and a build your own. We are more used to New York style pizzas but everyone was very happy with their orders. We actually liked it better than our usual pizza joint. The crust is thick, but it is soft enough to not feel like a mouth full of dough. There was the right amount of cheese and it tasted nice and creamy. They also put a good amount of toppings on each of our pizzas. We were a little worried that the garlic oil on the veg square wouldn't taste like much, but it was very flavorful. The tomato sauce on the other squares was really good too. For someone used to a NY style pizza, the squares seemed kind of small for the price, but we actually found them to be quite filling. Half of a square would be a good portion. We each struggled to eat 3/4 of our squares for dinner. We will definitely be ordering from Pizza Wizard again and I'm sorry I didn't know about it sooner. BTW, they have a number of options for vegans including vegan cheese and seitan pepperoni. read more

My partner and I have tried Pizza Wizard a handful of times and it hits the mark every single time. Most recently we had the Chicky Ricky Square, Ricky Bobby Style. It was absolutely amazing. This pizza joint is clearly nothing short of magical. Looking to ward off an evil vampire? They got you covered because there's no shortage of garlic on your pizza. Looking for world peace, serve a slice of this deliciousness to the world leaders, no problem! You get the point. The dough is fluffy deliciousness. It is light and airy, not at all what you'd typically get with the average pizza. The crust / cheese blend has perfectly crispy edges (the true shining star of this masterpiece). Are you health conscious? It comes in a vegan version where even our meat eating friends couldn't tell the difference. We ventured two days in a row because we were so impressed. We are looking forward to our next visit to try something different. A few things to note. The pizza is small. One pizza per person is mandatory. The cost was something like $13 to $14 for one pizza, so this isn't necessarily the place where you can cheaply feed a family. Think more along the lines of date night takeout meal. One of the key components of a Detroit style pizza is the way the pizza resolves along the perimeters of the pan as it bakes. I like to refer to this as "pizza cracklins". Very tasty! We were so stoked to order pizza here this weekend (they have online ordering currently during their normal business hours). They ran a special where you buy 2 pies and get a free salad. We thought the pepperoni pizza stole the show. Their red sauce is SO good. Sweet, spicy, and complemented the little cup n char pepperoni so well. Surprisingly great pizza. I'm usually hesitant to try new pizza places as it is a hit or miss. This place is definetly a hit. One pizza I tried had red sauce which has a slight spice, melty mozzarella cheese, with pepperoni cups with that slight char, which is amazing. Basil adds another level of flavor. The crust had a great crunch whole meeting fluffy in the middle. Even the vegan option was delicious. Very hard finishing a good vegan cheese alternative but whatever cheese it is, it is very convincing. Veggies like banana peppers and what not help to make it a hearty pizza. Heads up on parking as it isn't indicated but you can park in front of the garage door looking area in front of the business. Pros: The square pizzas taste excellent and have a very nice texture to them. Staff were friendly, both on the phone and in person. Cons: The square pizzas are too small for one hungry person Prices are too high, given the size of the square pizza Website is confusing and doesn't have enough information on it My spouse and I are both vegan, so we ordered two "veg square" pizzas with Daiya cheese and assorted vegetable toppings. We got one pizza with garlic oil, and one with red sauce. The texture and flavor were both very good. It was quite possibly the best-tasting vegan pizza I've had in Rochester, and much better than the thin-crust pizzas that seem to be popular now. The crust on the square pizzas is just outstanding. Congrats to the owners for developing a delicious recipe. I do have some suggestions, though. This is a new business, so I hope that my comments are taken the way I intended them -- more helpful than outright critical. I'd like to see the size of the square pizza increased by about 50%. I could easily eat one-and-a-half of those square pizzas just by myself. The next time I order for myself and my wife, I'll have to get three pizzas (my wife is typically a light eater, but finished her whole pizza). Related to the point above, I think the prices on those pizzas are too high for the amount of food you get. $15 (not including tax and tip) for a smallish vegan pizza seems excessive. If a single vegan pizza were enough to feed one hungry person, then $15 would be a reasonable price. My garlic pizza tasted good, but it didn't actually have much garlic flavor. If I were a vampire, I wouldn't feel any particular danger. I would suggest adding significantly more garlic to the garlic oil. The menu on the website is confusing and needs a lot of work to make it more user-friendly. There is very little information about what you actually receive when you order a square pizza, and there is no explanation for the difference between a nickel-thick pizza and a square pizza. Why not include some photographs and some descriptive text for each? When I picked up my square pizzas, the person ahead of me received two larger-sized pizza boxes. What was in those boxes? I don't know. Was it the nickel-thick pizza? I would also suggest putting all the vegan items in a separate part of the menu, and labeling them clearly. As it stands now, there is no separate listing for the vegan meatball sandwich (at least not on the ordering part of the menu). If you don't click on the "Meatball Sandwich" link, you won't even realize that there is a vegan option. Also, what is "All purpose vegan dip"? There is no explanation for it. I meant to ask the staff about it, but I forgot. When I came to pick up the pizzas, I saw a hand-written menu on the wall that said hot peppers were available as a pizza topping. The website said nothing about hot peppers. I would have ordered hot peppers if I knew that they were an option. In general, it would be nice to have a wider selection of veggie toppings available. On-line reviews say that the pizzas made by Pizza Wizard are Detroit-style pizzas, but the menu doesn't even mention this fact. Again, more information on the menu would be super helpful. It would be great if Pizza Wizard offered French fries as a side item. read more

Indulgence. This is thick, delicious pan pizza, crispy on the edges, oozing with grease, just wonderful. We got the veggie and the pepperoni. Veggie: garlic oil, not tomato sauce, and the vegetables on top were good, the broccoli not totally mushy, everything was great. Pepperoni: sauce on top, LOTS of it, and so much cup and char pepperoni. It's a little like the pizza maker went insane, but to our benefit. This is exploding with flavor. And grease. This is not health food. After eating you might not run a 5k. Or even walk to the fridge for another beer. But damn, it's so good. There is no other pizza like this in the area. read more

Tucked into a very unassuming strip on S Clinton Pizza Wizard is serving up some fantaaaaastic slices. I stopped in Sunday and got two speciality slices for $4.50. I have to say I was wildly impressed with how light and airy the dough was for how thick the pizza came out. Not to mention the crispy-ness that was maintained on the crust even though it was loaded with toppings.
