The slice is way more than pizza--this is a great food item that combines the nuanced flavors you would see at a great restaurant and the baking expertise you would find at some of the city's best bakeries. The crust has a crisp bottom and an impossibly airy and open middle. You can tell that the folks behind here are adding a level of baking/culinary skill that you definitely don't see in your average pizza spot. And it's food that's highly crave-able. Case in point--I had the pepperoni and supreme slices and immediately went up to order more to go because I knew I would be craving them later. Found my favorite pizza in Chicago. Truly Sicilian pizza... and the char cup pepperoni is the best. This pizza reminds me of my Sicilian grandmother's/Nani's handcrafted pizza while growing up in Buffalo, NY. The staff was so kind and friendly too. The location was darling and the pizza was incredible. Doughy, but with the perfect amount of crisp. I just realized while writing this out that I didn't need to add any red pepper flakes or Parmesan like I do for every other pizza. If you don't have the capacity to serve hot pizza on a high demand day either limit your orders or be closed. Stopped in last night for a couple of slices of pizza. It was a cute little alleyway-- the woman guiding people around described it best "we wanted to make it cute and inviting but...you know it's still just an alleyway" The decor is adorable-- it feels like something that has been around in the neighborhood forever (even if this was the opening week). Something just a touch quirky and unique. We were imagining how cute it might look to have a cup of hot chocolate out there in the winter if they put in some Christmas lights. We have the pepperoni and basil, the rapini and chevre, and the ruben's special. I think the rapini and chevre was my favorite which.. honestly, I wasn't really expecting. The pepperoni on the pepperoni was nice-- burnt on the edges, good flavor but the basil was a bit overpowered by the focaccia bread and the pepperoni. The ruben's special was a nice kind of Chicago classic (sausage and giardiniera) Drinks-- you can order a slice with a shot and a can of solemn oath. This was a pretty good choice and I'm glad we did it. Music-- it's the empty bottle and bite cafe people so of course, this music is going to be awesome. Light, delicious pizza. The dough is thick but has a lot of air bubbles! It's light which was great and the toppings are not overly heavy-handed. It's a great balance between bread and toppings. I was introduced to this place by a friend, and I'm glad she did! This was my second time going in one week- I mean, I happened to be driving by so why not stop. While I'm always excited when I can get try multiple or mix and match (in this case buying by the slice), I'd get the whole pizza without hesitation. This Sicilian style pizza is amazing with its crispy and air crust. The ingredients are high quality and options aren't your generic pepperoni or sausage etc. The $10 slice, a beer and a shot is great way to either cap off the day or start the night. I have been trying out different pizza spots recently and this one was a pleasant surprise! It was a bit of a drive for me (about a 30-40 min drive one way) but for the sake of trying out the pizza, I was all for it. The pizza was pretty great! We had the one with the pepperoni and basil (ordered for take out). Pretty thick pieces of Sicilian style pizza with some awesome ingredients! One thing I would say is that the sauce is slightly on the sweeter side, which I dont particularly opt in for if it was up to me. I think I would 100% come back again if I happen to be in the neighborhood and enjoy a slice or 2 in their pretty chill back alley sitting. read more

It is also fun to try the rotating slices that are often collaborations with bands who perform at the Empty Bottle. The inside is cute and cozy and they have a great patio in the summer. I expected more based on the reviews, but it wasn't as great as the hype suggested. It's basically very crunchy focaccia bread topped with stuff. Feels like you're eating 90% bread and 10% toppings. Got the Fig & Pig, and the toppings just didn't meld that well with the crunchy bread. In addition, it just seemed way overdone. The fig jam had basically been cooked dry to almost a candy-like texxture, and the pork was very dry. I was incredibly disappointed by this place after expecting really high quality, tasty pizza. This pizza was so dry and sauce less, it was like eating stale garlic bread rather than pizza. All the slices were so overcooked, the dough had the texture of a biscote rather than the nice fluffy dough you'd expect on a Sicilian style pizza. In addition, most of the slices had such little sauce on it or the sauce had dried up and become hard from being over cooked. I got 7 different flavors but most of them were so flavorless, I honestly couldn't tell the difference and I'm not even sure they gave me all different flavors because no one explained to me which one was which. Honestly, these slices tasted as if they had sat in an oven for days before being served to us. I actively recommend against this place, save your money and get yourself a flavorful, fluffy pizza from any of the other well established pizza joints in Chicago. The only good note was the brownie, which was the opposite of pizza because it was moist, soft, and sweet. When I read about this place I had very high hopes and those were met or exceeded, this pizza was so good! I got 4 slices, one of each variety (pep/basil, Reuben special, lemon/rapini and supreme.) They were great in their own way. I think my favorite was the pepperoni and basil, the crispy pepperoni and sauce was so good. I also loved the sausage and giardinera on the Rueban special. Wow this newer pizza spot is on point! The dough is what really gets you. It's Sicilian style pizza, similar to Detroit style but the crust is light and airy, almost like a cloud. Anchovy heavy but in a good way - very balanced with crisp lettuce and a solid dressing. Now the pizza - the crunch you wanted, chewy at the same time, incredible olives, and a pepper spread that was truly something else. While this style of pizza won't cure a typical pizza craving, it hit different in the best way. Don't be deceived by the size of the box - 1 pizza was plenty for 2 people with left overs.
