Bartoli's deep dish may well be the best in Chicago. The sauce is perfection; with an amazing tang and only a hint of sweetness. It's like a rich, bold, 'Sunday Gravy' that the best Italian grandmas make, LOL. We got a simple sausage and pepperoni, and it had a perfect amount of meat. Sausage also had a nice spice blend going. The crust? Killer. Baked to perfection; with a buttery texture and slight flakiness. Crust on the bottom? Thick enough to withstand the onslaught of sauce, cheese, and toppings without getting too soggy. Finally, and this is important, let's talk about juice. The biggest challenge with deep dish is getting as little juice as possible at the end of the bake. This is where Bartoli's knocks it out the park. Juice is minimal; which, if I had to guess, is mostly the result of that sauce. Instead of the watery, diced tomato sweet mess you find at other places, the sauce is thick. As everything bakes away in the oven, there's not much initial liquid going on... GENIUS! We also got the thin crust alfredo with chicken, roasted peppers, and artichoke hearts. Incredible. The toppings, sauce, and cheese is not something they skimp on...this is very nearly a pan style pizza. Delicious. This is a place that deserves some serious patronage. Bravo, Bartoli's. read more

normally I do web pick ups, i work across the street at the city of Chicago. This past Friday night I was working late, and decided to come in. Upon coming in both front girls are laughing and giggling and not paying attention to anyone coming in. I seen another woman come out of no where walk past everyone not say anything to anyone and walk to the back. I'm assuming she's a manager maybe? I'm still standing in line and still nothing from anyone. Then I see the girl in back come up to the front and it's just break time here. Laughing and playing and just whatever they had in mind. I wanted another 2 mins still nothing I decided tonight's just not the night. I commonly come in during the day, I'm greeted in and out the door in mins when I call an order in for pick up. There's 2 girls that work always pleasant and they seem to be much more busy and still made a second to acknowledge me. I came in for silverware. That's it that's all. I'll still going to come as a customer but it's just not the way I'm used to being treated here. I did call and spoke to I think Tracey and I didn't want to leave a name or get anyone in trouble so I did tell her I would email the owner. Decent deep dish pizza at Bartoli's. First of all this location is more of a delivery pick up type place - though they do have a bit of seating. I was there later in the afternoon in a Monday, so it wasn't too busy. You'd see a few pick up orders coming through and another table or two being occupied. In terms of the deep dish pizza itself, this was my first time trying Bartoli's, so my mind immediately tries to compare it to other Chicago deep dishes. It's kind of hard to compare places, but I'd say it's kind of it's own hybrid style between deep dish and stuffed. The crust was kind of like Gino's, but more crunchy, rather than the bready crust Gino's has. The sauce on top is more like a stuffed pizza like a Giordano's rather than the chunks of tomatoes at an Uno's or Lou's. The cheese was nice and super melty. Overall it was good. Some places are "slice places" and while Bartoli's isn't a bad slice by any stretch, they are a bright shining star when it comes to a full pie. First time was a slice of something I can't recall and was sort of forgettable. But I did put in my mind that for future visits for a full pizza, they would probably excel. And they did! Ordered a Medium cheese only with extra sauce and crispy/well done. They knocked it out of the park w the execution....perfectly cooked with golden-brown bubbly cheese and just the right amount of cheese to sauce ratio! It is also a place that just MAKES you want to support local business and come back again. It was near closing time and while I waited the few minutes for it to be cooked to the ordered doneness, the owner was cleaning up and asked if I wanted a slice of Deep Dish that was in the window. He hates to throw food away but it's the (unfortunate) nature of the pizza/food industry. It is disheartening to know this is a common practice without much an owner can do about it:/ That slice of Deep Dish (sausage) was the first slice of Deep Dish pizza i've had in at least three years...i've lived in Chicago over 20 years and can count on two hands how many times I eat the stuff....very rarely. It was sub par, I'm from Chicago born and raised and I am very picky with pizza joints. It's all about the dough, pizza sauce ratio and then the toppings. Never been here before, but heard great reviews. Went in one night to get my Chitown fix, took almost an hour to get our pizzas, nothing fancy just regular pizza pies. Drive almost an hour home and opened the box, just to realize they gave us the wrong pizza. I paid for a sausage and pepperoni with bell pepper pizza and they gave us some day old cheese pizza instead. I will never eat there again. I would never recommend this place. Employees didn't even verify my pizza before handing it to us. Most places show the pizza inside the box to confirm. I will say my preferences for deep dish include a lot of sauce, not an overwhelming layer of cheese, and good toppings within the sauce. Bartoli's hit every spot!
