$5 for two NY slices and a soda, after tax, in this economy?! Kung Fu is the spot to go for good cheap quick bites. Literally a hole in the wall, you can easily miss this if you're not looking out for the neon "SLICES" sign in the window. They also serve a single NY slice and soda too for about $3.50. Packaging is sturdy as the slices come in a box. For this price you are not allowed to complain. The food definitely exceeded my expectations. You may not see anybody at the service window but if you wait a few minutes the owner will eventually come. Once he takes your order the slices only take a few minutes to heat up. You can take a look at the soda selection through the window as well.

Walked past this place multiple times and finally decided to check it out, was excited by the promise of two slices and a soda for 5 bucks and was not disappointed in the slightest. I was greeted with two hot slices of pepperoni and cheese, wrapped in tin foil and a cold Sierra Mist. My partner got the same and it came out to a flat 10. We enjoyed one of our slices at the fountain across the street and they were delicious, we couldn't believe the quality at that price. The pizza was still hot after a 45 minute train ride home. Overall I could not recommend this place more. The best bang for your buck I've seen in this city. Go check it out!!!!!

Cafeteria pizza at the best and not even the cafeteria pizza that you secretly liked! Lol. Cool concept- literal definition of hole in the wall. Wouldnt come back again but fun stop for this one time!

The novelty of this place probably exceeds the quality of the pizza as it looks like a hidden knock-on-the-door-speakeasy kind of place, but I don't think they're actually trying to stay a secret. The place is just still working on getting set up inside so they blocked the view of the inside. For $5 you get either two NYC slices or 1 deep dish slice in addition to a canned soda or water. They also throw in a fortune cookie. The nyc slice tastes literally like $1 slices in nyc for better or for worse. I personally like it, but you won't exactly be seeing me recommend this before any other pizza location in the area.

Pequod's Pizza near DePaul is definitely a busy spot! While it looks modest from the outside, it…read moreactually spans two floors. It was the perfect setup to book a movie across the street and have a reservation laid out ahead of time here. We were seated upstairs, which had a cute tavern vibe complete with pop music playing and sports on the TVs. I started off with a Haymarket Honey Ale, which was very light with a delicious yeasty aftertaste. Once we put our food order in, it took just 5 minutes for the cheese corners to arrive. They came out shaped like triangle nuggets with a light golden crust and a wet marinara on the side. They didn't look super impressive at first glance, but as soon as you bite into one, the cheese pull is impressive and tastes great--like a thicker, elevated mozzarella stick! About 30 minutes after ordering, the main event arrived: a deep dish pizza with sausage, mushroom, and giardiniera (Note: I was told that sometimes it can take a long time for the cook so just be mindful in case you come through starving.) The crust was buttery with crispy bits, a little doughy, and those legendary caramelized, charred edges were absolute perfection--the real star of the show that felt like a total hug in my mouth! The sausage was so good, with a cook that mirrored the crust with just a slight crisp edge, while the giardiniera added a nice touch of acidity to balance out the fat. The toppings were evenly spread, and after two slices of a large pie, I was completely stuffed. As a new resident, this was my very first Chicago deep dish experience, and I very much enjoyed it. Pequod's completely lived up to the hype for me!

My interest in visiting Pequod's Pizza came after watching LATRYGUY, a foodie YouTuber I have been…read morefollowing lately. As a fellow foodie, I am always looking for new spots to try--whether they are in Chicago, the surrounding Chicagoland area, or outside the state of Illinois. I honestly feel as though you cannot order from Pequod's and not get a pan pizza! Pan pizza is the entire essence of Pequod's; in my opinion, it is almost a crime not to order it. I ended up ordering their 7" personal pan pizza for lunch on a day when I was craving either pizza or pho. Whether using Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online for the convenience and the ability to schedule a pickup time. Most of the time, my orders are ready--or nearly ready--upon arrival. By the time I reached the restaurant, my order was almost finished. If you are someone who orders online as faithfully as I do, just keep an eye on the tracker for the notification that your food is ready. Because of this smooth experience, the likelihood of me ordering online from this location again is very high. I will warn you: if you are driving to this location, the curb sits high outside the storefront, so be mindful of that if you have a smaller vehicle. Parking is pay-to-park and shared by other businesses along Clybourn Ave. Remember to give yourself plenty of space when parallel parking; it can get tight since this restaurant has a consistent flow of customers moving in and out. During my brief visit, I noticed customers either carpooling or being dropped off, which I highly recommend if you plan on visiting this Pequod's location. Now, as for my food! "A cute little pan pizza," was my first thought after receiving the box from the employee. It was so adorable that looking at the box made me almost regret not ordering a larger size. However, its actual appearance took me by surprise once I opened it. After unwrapping the pizza from the aluminum foil, I saw its charred, caramelized cheese ring around the edge, a heavy crushed-tomato and herb sauce on top, and a stringy mozzarella pull in the center that was sticking to the foil. That sight alone made me salivate in anticipation of my first bite. I brought out gloves for this because I didn't dine in. Instead, I just pulled into a park and enjoyed this "cute little pan pizza" from Pequod's, which tasted incredible! The rich, tangy tomato sauce packed a serious punch that made me smile with enjoyment as I carefully avoided getting it on my hospital scrubs. Don't be deceived by the look of those charred edges, either--they are completely edible and delicious! You don't need to worry even if you have sensitive teeth. After finishing the last bite, I wiped my mouth and declared, "That was good!". If you are like me in search for something light, then I highly recommend their 7" personal pan pizza because it will leave you satisfied. In closing, I had a great ordering experience, as indicated in my review of Pequod's Pizza. Thanks to LATRYGUY for bringing this to my attention; I am happy to share my endorsement of this business with the Yelp community. I also want to point out that I am connected to 13 quality Yelpers who have already shared their excellent feedback about this location. I didn't mind waiting because it gave me and my partner a chance to look over the menu more and ask our server for recs, to which he recommend the Lou Malnatis salad. This salad honestly blew my expectations and I can see why it's such a crowd favorite - the roasted salami bits and gorgonzola cheese provided a really nice savory contrast with the sweet vinaigrette they used. When it comes to the deep dish pizza however, I think deep dish style just isn't for me. You can taste all the ingredients (the cheese, tomato sauce and sausage) but they don't really come together in a cohesive manner. I had one bite and I didn't really feel compelled to take another after, it reminded me of my own home cooking when I would add too much tomato sauce and overcooked the cheese on a lasagna. I'm not saying deep dish pizza or Lou Malnatis is bad necessarily, the service was friendly and attentive, I just think a regular pizza is more my speed.

We were waited by Bill - who gave great recommendations and provided great customer experience the entire time! 10/10 from him. The focaccia + burrata combo was incredible - I typically don't opt for bread + pizza, although this was so worth it. The focaccia was perfectly crispy yet so soft, and pairing burrata on top gave it that creamy/cold combo that was perfect. The pizza was very elevated - good simple ingredients with an incredible crunch. Extremely paper thin. Highly recommend to come here!

We ended up doing a walk-in on a Sunday night and showed up at 8 PM one hour before close. This worked out for us because we got a really good seat after only waiting for 20 minutes. Service is good and timely- the hostess was super kind and helpful. We started with some cocktails- a Negroni & a spritz (both were good & pretty strong). Then we split the Caesar salad and a pizza with half sausage/olive and mushroom/onion. Yeah, the pizza did blow me away- the crust is perfectly crunchy and so so thin. I wouldn't even describe it as traditional tavern style pizza because I think it's a really crunchy crust- but it's definitely wayyyyy better than Dimi Dimi (that's the most comparable crust imo). The sauce has a slight spice to it, and the whole pizza just feels very layered in terms of flavorful profile. The sausage was also spicy but very good and I absolutely loved the mushroom and onion duo. Sometimes when you go to a certain pizza places, it doesn't feel worth it, but all the ingredients felt elevated here and the pizza had an elevated taste. The Caesar salad had a nice light dressing and a ton of cheese. I wish that the lettuce had a bit more of a crunch to it, but they seemed to use butter lettuce. The inside feels like a classic Italian joint, but it's very small and simple Overall, so glad that I finally went and although it's not a place that I would go regularly because I live far, I would definitely come back!

The restaurant is large and interesting to look at. Service is friendly. The menu is brief, but I'm guessing everything on it is delicious! We had just arrived in Chicago and assumed we had been referred to a Chicago-style pizza place. Nope! This place has "tavern-style" (extreme thin crust) and artisan (wood-fired style). We ordered the artisan with the margherita pizza and the Sunday salad. The kale Caesar looked really good too. The Sunday salad was a 4x elevated version of the Olive Garden salad that we all pretend we don't love. (Don't let me lose you at Olive Garden; I do not eat at Olive Garden.) it had incredibly fresh baby gem lettuce, delicious Italian dressing, salami, garbanzo beans, cherry tomatoes, fennel (I think), ditalini pasta, and probably cheese of some kind. Very flavorful, fresh and delish! And it was large! IMHO, a great pizza must have the foundations of a great crust-wood-fired crispy on the outside, light and chewy inside---and a delicious sauce. Zarella's dit the bill on both! I imagine whatever pizza you get it will be superb, but I'm partial to the red sauce. Def worth trying!
