The pies at Paulie Gee's were good. I loved the light and airy dough on the Detroit style pizzas. We tried the "fungus among us" pizza as well as the "vodka veggie" and the award-winning pepperoni. The flavor on the fungus among us was a bit bland, but the crust was very good which made up for it. The vodka pizza was really good in flavor and something that I have never had before. The dough however was a bit soggy and floppy. Same for the pepperoni... One thing to keep in mind is that they do not allow you to do half-and-half of any toppings, which was a bit frustrating for vegetarian vs non-vegetarians. Lastly, as a person who is from Metro Detroit, they did not offer ranch as a side dressing. I feel like you can't advertise Detroit style pizza and NOT offer ranch as a dipping sauce. Super creative pizzas that are loaded with toppings. Our party of 8 visited for dinner and we had to wait quite a bit to be seated-- this is expected for such a popular restaurant. We were seated by the open windows and the wind was blowing out the candles, our napkins, menus, etc. As the employee recommended, we ordered two of their thicker pizzas and two of their thinner pizzas. This was a mistake. Either we were all famished or the employee expected us to eat tiny portions. Despite still being hungry, we did not want to wait to put in another order. As for the pizzas, we all enjoyed the thicker style more, which is what they're known for. It was difficult ordering for such a large group with various preferences, so it might be best to just go half with someone else! read more

Man! Let me tell you! Idk how many times I've passed this place and never went in. Thankfully , it was on my birthday and we were in the area and one of my girls decided that we go in for some pizza! There is something for everyone and I love me some Detroit style pizza with a burnt crust! Drooling!! Not only is there pizza mouthwatering but idk where they get their cake from (yes, it's still on my mind) it was a cake that you dream about. The frosting wasn't sweet and had a maple flavor. The Detroit pizza is amazing here. Service not so much. We came as a big group of 8 and got seated pretty quickly. The first question we got asked was do we have a reservation when the first thing on the website says no reservations. So a little confusing. We got seated with cups and plates and took about 15 mins to get water. We were quick to get our orders in and good thing because our waitress didn't come back till after our food was served. Everyone's favorite was the cup winner Detroit pizza. The wood fire was not that great. They do serve alcohol and mocktails (this pregnant mama to be was excited). Although the mocktail I got was a little too sweet. I've heard another location serves by HUGE slices. Kind of excited to check that place out! read more

Very very good. I had a gluten free detroit style pie and it was delicious. I had a lot to take home and eat for a few days but that was okay. I am NCGS and I didn't have a reaction although I often do at pizza places bc of the flour everywhere. I'd do it again for sure. I love the seasonal options. This spot serves the BEST pizza and cake while simultaneously having the WORST service I've ever experienced. To make matters worse, they automatically force you to pay a 20% tip. It is because of this that staff can treat you however they want because they know they're getting paid. Let's start with the good. The Logan Squares (Detroit-style pizza) is out of this world. The pizzas are on the expensive side for the quantity, but the flavor is excellent. I got the funghi pizza that was a lot of different cheese and mushroom. I added a side of Mike's hot honey to drizzle on the pizza. The flavors were incredible with heavy umami from the mushrooms and cheeses. The hot honey added a much needed sweetness and subtle heat to cut through the rich, heavy flavors of the pizza. Paired with a non-alcoholic beer, this was excellent. They also had a dense strawberry shortcake with an incredible buttercream frosting that was mind blowing! It was so so delicious, sweet, and tasted surprisingly fresh with real strawberries. Now for the bad. Like I mentioned at the start, service is abysmal. It first took 15 minutes for a waiter to come to the table to take drink orders. The drinks are just canned, but it took another 15 minutes to bring that out with a relatively empty restaurant. Then, the waiters never checked on me to bring more water or anything. They even brought a wrong pizza, put it on my table, and then I had to tell them it was not mine. They then went and took it to another table. This is an issue as a restaurant should immediately take it back and bring out a new pizza to the correct table instead of taking it off of ours to give to someone else. Also FYI, they can't modify any toppings on the Detroit style pizzas as those come premade (the restaurant just bakes them). Service was just poor throughout the meal with no one checking to refill drinks or anything. At this point I was frankly offended that they force a 20% tip for this service. I would normally be happy with giving 20-25% for good service, but this spot did not come anywhere close to that. If you're looking for good food but to be treated horribly by staff and forced to pay a large tip, come here! read more

I have a gluten allergy and I'm lactose intolerant which usually won't allow me to eat pizza. However, here I was able to order a gluten free Detroit style pizza with vegan cheese! It wad the absolute best pizza I've had in years! I'm only taking off one star because the service is very slow despite not being very busy. Also, I know the pizza is wood fired and it's an open kitchen but a few fans would make a huge difference. There was only one small fan at the host stand. Other than that it was incredible and I will definitely be back!!!!!! read more

Seven of us came for dinner on a weeknight. Service was very professional. It was interesting that they had both Neapolitan and Detroit style pizzas. All were flavorful, with the Detroit style being quite heavy with dough. The salads were fresh - we had the Gates of Eden and it was tasty and a fairly good value at $12. Other spots nearby would be at least $14 or more for the same size. We had the Hellboy Pizza which was a little sweet and spicy however we should have asked for it to be cooked really well done as it was a bit too soft and mushy. Others ordered the Fungivore and the Pepperoni - both good however they had too much dough to topping for our tastes. The bartender makes a great Manhattan. If we returned we would order the Neapolitan style wood fired pizza really well done and try some slightly more adventurous flavor combos. read more

Wonderful place, the only affordable place we found that didn't try to upsell on everything. The server was fantastic, personable and down to earth. The owner came and shook our hands and asked what we are in town for and made our days. The pizza was very good, I recommend a margarita pizza. During happy hour only $10 a pizza. Would come back for sure. I haven't had service like this in a while. Chicago could really learn a lot from this place. read more

Paulie gee's was delicious. It wasn't quite what I thought of with deep dish pizza because somehow it was light and fluffy. It was really tasty. We tried a huge variety of pizzas (even one that was inspired by thanksgiving dishes on top???) and they were all really tasty. The cheese crust is what I think people *think* pequods is doing (yummy crispy cheese) but without being burnt. Deff recommend checking out Paulie Gee's to fulfill your meaty cheese and fluffy bread cravings. read more

We had a lot of really interesting pizzas at Paulie Gee's and I would recommend all of them--they were all delicious. Our favorite was the quietly special: it's always bean you (really surprising, wasn't expecting to love a pizza with white bean puree). Desserts were good and the service was nice and the pizzas came out in rounds so our table was never overwhelmed with pies. Great place to come for a special pizza experience! read more

Paulie Gee's in Logan Square was my first Detroit-style pizza I ever had and I fell in love, I knew that if I were in Chicago again, I have to make it back to Paulie Gee's for another Detroit-style pizza. Here I am, over five years later and I finally made it back and I am so happy to say the experience is still as great as I remember! We found a street parking spot across the street around 4:15pm on a Sunday and were immediately seated. The inside is pretty large and offers a great view of their pizza ovens. Our waiter was a young gentleman, very accommodating and friendly. He brought over a pitcher of water and drink/food menus. Each of us ordered a beer and sipped while perusing the menu. I knew exactly what I wanted so it did not take me long to decide. Haha At this point, I can copy/paste my review from 2019, almost completely verbatim about my order. I ordered The US Pizza Cup Winner from the "Logan Squares, Detroit-Inspired" menu section. This bad boy was topped with cheddar, mozzarella, pepperoni cups, bacon jam, red sauce, basil, Mike's Hot Honey, and each square was topped off with a dollop of ricotta. I love Buffalo-style pizza and always will, but this pizza, was among one of the best I think I've ever had! The crust was cooked to crispy perfection and had an amazing chew and texture. The cheeses blended with the other toppings and the honey brought a twinge of sweetness and heat, while the ricotta countered that heat brilliantly. The size of the pizza was perfect too. This and a beer were the perfect amount to fill me up, but I could not say no to a slice of cookies and cream cake from Pie, Pie My Darling. The price for all of this was in-line with many of my favorite pizza places in Buffalo. I am so glad I had another great experience at Paulie Gee's, even after five years! Happy to say the excellent customer service and quality pizza have stayed the same. I look forward to coming back, hopefully it will not take me five years. haha read more

If you've had your fair share of deep dish pizza then you can give detroit style pizza a try. Paulie Gee aims to make your pizza experience just a little different out here in Chicago. If you have no idea what to get, then get the US Pizza Cup, the combination of ricotta and honey and what not is a match made in heaven. I was tempted to eat an entire order myself but my friend might not have appreciated that. So to compromise, we got a fungi something white sauce pizza cause God knows we need fiber in our diet. Yeah sure that one was good too but my taste buds kept gravitating back towards the US Pizza Cup. Don't believe me? Order for yourself and see, if you're feeling particularly ravenous, maybe you can order two detroit style pizzas, they have a rotating menu (or so I was told) for certain detroit style pizzas, giving you an excuse to keep coming back. read more

To say I'm obsessed with this pizza is an understatement. I've taken every person I know here, from both in and out of town and the experience is always the same. The no resys has never been an issue, if you're there close to open with a small party you should have no problem getting a table and even if there is a brief wait, there are so many bars in the area to kill time at you won't even notice. Or you can just hang out at the bar at paulie gees too and get full service there it's the best. The drinks are all great too, I'm a fan of the mezcal spicy marg and the peanut butter banana espresso martini is on the list for next visit. Pizza is surprisingly fast (though use your brain, if it's busy, the pizzas take slightly longer). It's my favorite pizza in the city and it isn't even Chicago style pizza but I don't even care it's unbelievable here. TLDR: I don't care what else you order as long as you get the US pizza prize cup pizza read more

Already thinking about the next time I'm coming back, this pizza is AMAZING (the US Pizza Cup Winner). My new favorite in the entire city. It's a true work of art that Pizza with this many layers can still taste light and fresh. The crust is airy and moist in the middle but crunchy on the outside with so much flavor (not to mention this was the gluten free crust). The sauce is so fresh, the pepperoni balance so well with the basil, ricotta, and the hot honey (!!!) Not to mention the ambiance of the restaurant is on point - for a pizza place it's great to have a well designed sit down service for a meal, not just a slice shop. Lots of tables but definitely filled up even for a Monday! They have a good Monday deal on their thin crust pizzas, but how could I pass up this masterpiece? The prices are extremely reasonable, too. Paulie Gees sure makes some damn good pizzas. There's two locations here in Chicago, a few in New York, Columbus and Baltimore. So unfortunately it's not exclusive to Chicago only, but doesnt mean we can't enjoy a mini pizza chain every now and then. When we arrived, we were able to grab a table, but by the time we were done, the place was already full. Service was ok, I would say a tad bit slow in the beginning but did improve throughout the evening. We ordered their Hellboy a round pizza, a square cut US Pizza Cup Winner. Both were delicious and I honestly couldn't decide which one I liked better. They unfortunately don't offer appetizers and the pizzas are on the smaller side. I wouldn't probably suggest ordering one pizza per person. The Hellboy is the same as their Delboy pizza but with Mikes Hot Honey added. It came with fresh mozzarella, Italian tomatoes, Berkshire Soppressata piccante and parmigiano Reggiano. The crust had a nice beautiful burntness and had the right amount of cheese. Truly an amazing pizza. The US Pizza Cup Winner came with sharp white cheddar, mozzarella, Ezzo pepperoni cups, bacon jam, red sauce, ricotta, basil, and Mikes Hot Honey. The thick crust was perfectly baked, the the basil and ricotta made this pizza taste extremely fresh and complimented the hint of spicy & sweet from the hot honey perfectly. Another amazing pizza. First time trying any of the Paulie Gee's locations, and man, did it not disappoint. The owner, Derrick, took great care of us and you can tell he loves what he does and the product coming out as well as the customers. The Logan Zaddy pizza we got was absolutely unreal. It featured Mozzarella, Pepperoni, Ricotta, Basil, Parm Reggiano and best of all, a true kicker...Bacon Jam! The leftovers I took home were even better at 1 am. Each slice had that awesome and flavorful crispy edge with a nice airy dough and super quality ingredients both used in the sauce and for the toppings. The pizza is very instagrammable as well ;) Great overall atmosphere in the space but certainly depending on the time of day and day of week it can get a little loud so be prepared. Can't wait to come back for more! read more

Alright... the US cup pizza was hands down one of the best pizza we have had...might be the best. It's probably the pizza we would always get when we are in Chicago. Paulie Gee's has some of the best pizza I've had in the city! Visited for the first time last night and already planning my next visit back it was so good. My SO and I were able to walk in on a Saturday night around 7 and got seated immediately. The waitress was friendly and asked if we've been in before and explained the menu after we said it was our first time. After looking at all the various pizzas and ordering a couple drinks, we decided on splitting one Detroit style and one thin crust. We went for the US Pizza Cup winner for the Detroit style, without pepperoni. And we did the Vodka Veggie for the thin crust. Pizzas probably took about 15-20 minutes to come out and omg they were so good! The cup winner pizza was our favorite for sure, and I'm usually a thin crust pizza kind of person. The flavors on both were so so good. The restaurant does automatically include gratuity, so just be aware of that. Can't wait to go back and try more of their pizzas! read more

I know Chicago is usually known for Chicago Style pizza. But this place is a good change up for Detroit style pizza. They have regular pizza as well. One of the better Detroit style pizzas you can get outside of Detroit. The good ol classic Detroit style pizza of hot honey and pepperoni is a must get. read more

We got the meat lovers detroit style pizza to go. Can't speak to ambiance much but seemed busy and loud when we went to pick up our pizza lol! We ordered online, and the pizza was ready exactly when it said it would be which was nice. It was delicious, although a bit salty. Husband chose the meatiest one ofc which wouldn't be my choice lol. Good overpriced cocktails, pizza was adequate, mostly breading to give you a sense of filling up, but I wouldn't call it bad. service was okay, I did not appreciate 20% standard addition as a service tip, for every purchase (bill), not just a table of five or more. every bill had 20% added to it whether you got good or bad service. on principal I will not return because of that. restaurant owners are just becoming so greedy. They refuse to pay a standard wage. I don't blame the service workers. And I normally tip 20%. I just don't like being forced too. To the benefit of restaurant owners. Ambience, it was a nice place clean large open area positive. read more

We came for trivia which is rlly why im giving them 3 stars instead of the 4 i probably would just for the food (& exceptional service!). there were only 2 TVs which made it really hard to see, and we also couldn't hear the person making the announcements well at all. when the space is packed, you can't hear anyone else at your table which was rlly frustrating. TL; DR: Great Detroit Style Pizza, Salads are Shareable Arrived at 6:45pm for a Friday and got a table for 2 immediately. It started to pick up around 7:15/7:30pm, so if you like early dinners - this is perfect. The Detroit style pizza was great and the crust was so tasty. I think we just had them on a not so good night. The pizza was burnt. The sauce lacked flavor. I Adore Pizza. Native Chicagoan. Lived in New York. Get it in Detroit. It didn't live up to the hype for me and we were rooting for a dope spy in Logan but honestly, for us, this wasn't it. Great service tho. I'm really sad that it took me so long to come here. If you love Napoli style pizza, this is a great spot in there city. The highlight for us was that they serve HALAL pepperoni and sausage. We loved all of the pizzas we're tried. The coyote could have used some cheese but flavors were good. Beef a ronis a classic. Netflix and chilee was unique and flavorful. The pizza was incredible! We had the Detroit style pizza with sausage, tomato and honey. It was delicious with a tiny bite to it. Perfect! We are a local pizzeria focused on two styles of pizza - woodfired neo-Neapolitan and Detroit inspired. We take pride in every pizza that we create, and no pizza is ever added to the menu unless we would order it again! We regularly rotate our pizza menu, often based on season, so keep an eye out each quarter as our menu changes! We also are a bar that prides itself on having taps from some of the best local breweries and have creative cocktails that are reasonably priced! Our cocktails are also regularly rotated based on season, so don't forget to check our cocktail board by the bar!

Meet the Business Owner: Derrick T.

As a healthcare consultant before 2015, Derrick had built an oven on the back of a trailer and spent weekends at local farmers markets selling woodfired pizzas for fun. That fun became a passion in life for him, serving his pizza concepts and ideas to guests that stopped by, watching their faces light up, and then seeing the same guests come back week after week to try new creations! Somewhere down this path, Derrick realized that he was having far more fun with the farmers markets than in healthcare consulting, and decided to pursue his dream full force with the help of his friend and mentor, Paulie Gee. Together, they worked to help Derrick achieve his dream of opening up a pizzeria in Chicago! Since then, Derrick has won a US Pizza Cup in a regional competition, has been invited and joined the US Pizza Team, and has competed in Italy in various categories of pizza!

Unfortunately, the mac and cheese was also lukewarm, although the fries were piping hot. We've been here many times before, especially during the holidays, and it has never disappointed us. Maybe this was just an off night, with some of the dishes not coming out as hot or fresh as they should have been. We'll come back and give it another try the next time we're in the area.
