I know it's a brewery, but honestly, the beer menu is kinda small and really wasn't to my taste given so much of it was pale ales. BUT the food is fantastic. We had the bread with nduja butter which was really good - could almost make a whole meal out of it. And we had a soppressata pizza which was great as well. Thin crust in the middle with poofy crust at the end, plenty of toppings. All great. The only other downside is that it's always suuuper busy in there and the restaurant is very tight inside. Wish they had a bit more space or at least like a taller ceiling or something other than brick walls because it gets loud and crowded really quickly.
This restaurant has a very rustic, but chic vibe. The seating is definitely a little cozy inside. The service is fine, I think the restaurant gets super busy at times, and so it takes a while for the server to come back to the table. The food is phenomenal though, which makes up for everything else. We had the big salad, which was one of the most delicious salads I've ever had in my life. The pizza was delicious, and they had interesting breads and dip combos. They also had a self-service soft serve machine! I would highly recommend this place.
This review is for the bagels. I tried the seeded bagel + herb cream cheese and it was the best bagel I've ever had??! This place never misses I swear! The bagel was so perfectly crisp on the outside with a kind of laminated crust & so fluffy on the inside. The herb cream cheese had so much flavor as well & they give you a ton of it. This bagel & cream cheese is kinda steep at $6, but well worth it. I was able to get this on a Tuesday morning - I believe they've been making these available on Tuesdays in addition to the weekends now.
Love this space! They have fantastic outdoor seating and the indoors feels like I have escaped to california. It's honestly a great space for larger groups for brunch. Our waiter was great and helped us make some good choices. The Chorizo and egg sandwich was a great breakfast sandwich. I wouldn't categorize it as my favorite of all time, but it was still very good! The Big Salad was quite literally a very big salad. The dressing is super yummy! The soppressata pizza was really good. The meat and the cheese was perfect and the dough itself for the pizza felt light as opposed to making the pizza feel heavy. I really enjoyed the cook on the pizza! The soft serve was so good! I am so happy we opted to do the affogato because the espresso with the charred vanilla was an amazing combination.
Very good pizza at Bungalow! We got the: Soppressata + Hot Honey Pizza - 10/10 Mushroom Pizza - 10/10 Both pizza were light and didn't feel too greasy or heavy. We also ordered the Mushroom + Egg Sandwich and i was skeptical about the strawberry jam and pickled jalapeños combo on it, but they turned out to go great together! Pizzas came out quickly and our server was fabulous. They had fresh tulips at the table and the space is very bright and open. They also have a beautiful patio + bonfire.
Not your typical pizza spot I had friends coming into town and we wanted to try something local in the Logan Square/Humboldt park area. They had heard good things about Bungalow by Middle Brow (2840 W. Armitage Ave.), and after seeing their thin crust pizza online, I was definitely interested. First, I love pizza, but I'm a bit particular about cheese. Strong, heavy cheeses aren't really my thing, though I do love a good thin crust. We went on a Wednesday evening, and after not eating all day, I was ready for a great meal. The space is beautiful. Bungalow has both indoor and outdoor seating, and on a warm Chicago evening (high 60s), the vibe was perfect. We arrived around 8 PM and hoped to sit out front, but they had stopped seating there. Still, we were seated in the bungalow area, which was just as nice. Service was a highlight. Our waitress was warm, accommodating, and training someone new, who was also very kind and transparent about being in training, which I appreciated. I also loved that they said "cheers" every time they checked in or dropped something off. Small touch, but it added to the experience. One important note: they only serve their thin crust pizza on Tuesdays. That was honestly the main reason I wanted to come, so it was a bit of a letdown. Also, this isn't a build-your-own pizza place, you're choosing from their curated wood-fired options via QR code. We ordered a few pizzas: a meatball pizza, a mushroom-based pie, and I initially went with a simple cheese pizza with caramelized onions and mushrooms. When it arrived, it was topped heavily with Parmesan, which was a bit too much for my taste. The staff quickly accommodated me and switched it out for a simpler version (similar to a kids' cheese pizza) with the same toppings, which worked much better for me. My friends enjoyed their pizzas. I don't eat pork, so I skipped the meatball pie, but they seemed happy with it. The mushroom pizza was interesting, almost had an Indian-inspired flavor profile, likely from the sauce and spices. We also shared the jalapeño bread to start, which was warm and paired really well with the jalapeño sauce, definitely a standout. I had an old fashioned that was well-made, and my friend enjoyed their beer as well. Overall, it was a solid experience. The staff handled our requests with patience and care, even when we had a lot of questions. Chicago has no shortage of pizza options, so it's worth noting that this is more of a niche, curated experience rather than a fully customizable one. If you're looking for a traditional "build-your-own" pizza spot, this may not be it. But if you're open to trying something a little different in a great atmosphere, Bungalow by Middle Brow is worth checking out. 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Middlebrow will never disappoint. This has been one of my favorite spots in the city for as long as I've lived here and will continue to go back frequently! They have a great patio, the beat sourdough bread and pizza crust, and fresh delicious salads!
This is our latest addition to the All-Time Hits list. We enjoyed the tavern style ambiance - felt very Belgian. The service was friendly and attentive. The pizzas were amazing! I loved that the crust was organic and sourdough. Much easier on digestion even with the indulgent cheeses! Ingredients tasted fresh and even the cheese wasn't the ultra-processed chewy stuff. The Happy Hour is actually a great deal - half off certain select pies, like this mushroom one.
Busy place for dinner and drinks on a Friday night. They have a large patio and indoor seating at small tables or the counter overlooking the pizza ovens. We tried the sunny gold pizza and the big salad. The salad was delicious - well dressed, plenty of cheese and fresh before eating pizza. The sunny pizza took ~45 minutes to come out. It was good, but could've done with more of a sauce and no honey (too sweet on a pizza). The pepperoni and sopressata pizzas seemed to be the most popular options.
Limited menu, but honestly, sometimes that's perfect! Very interesting drinks, but great pizza! We started with the bread and cheese and the bread and nduja butter. The nduja butter was probably my favorite but the cheese was pretty good too. Overall both were just average compared to how good the pizza was. The mushroom and Soppresata were our favorites. Both were super flavorful. The hot honey was not too hot and the Soppresata we thought was better than the pepperoni.
SHOCKED I have not written a review for one of my favorite north side pizza spots!! Middlebrow goes beyond pizza- their freshly brewed beers and wines are something that make this place so unique. I miss when they used to sell toasts at the farmers market, but I'm sure they've gotten much too big to keep up with that. You can take the loaves of bread to go, which I highly suggest. They freeze well if you don't want to eat the whole loaf in a week (but, I won't judge you if you do). I always love ordering the pizza that is on special, I've had the peach and corn pizza in the summer, and most recently had the corned beef and cabbage pizza this winter. They are all incredible!! The best crust in the city, hands down. I'd start with some bread and either the butter and honey, or jam and cheese. But you can't go wrong with anything. In the summer, definitely check out their great patio! It fills up quickly but so worth it to grab a seat and a beer for some great food and people watching. Middlebrow is definitely Logan Square's best gem!
TLDR: Overrated spot for pizza, come for the ambiance and/or a drink - SKIP the pizza, pizzas are not good. I had very high expectations coming to this spot as I had read about their mission online - farm to table, local ingredients carefully curated for their menu items. Specifically I was excited to try their crispy sourdough pizzas. I took a long uber from the heart of downtown to try this spot. i came on a weekday afternoon and loved how the restaurant looked - beautiful high ceilings and lovely natural decor. I got seated and ordered the lunch special - mushroom pizza with the side salad. And I got a slice of their yuzu marinara. I've tried many pizzas before but these were not good at all. Mushroom pizzas- completely black on the bottom, so charred that the pizza tasted so bitter, the mushrooms and cheese were extremely salty Marinara Yuzu - citrus oil and tomato does NOT work. It tasted greasy and salty and left an overly tangy taste Ranch - the waiter asked if i wanted the housemade ranch and I excitedly said yes - huge letdown it was flavorless, overly just tangy and the yogurtesque base tasted gross I did end up getting food poisoning later that day - wasn't sure if it was from this spot but the food definitely didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. I had been so excited to be there and anticipated staying there for longer - but ended up feeling gross after my meal and left.

Love, love, love this spot! It is everything you want for a warm weather patio dinner with friends. Great, shareable food, including the Big Salad (my fav!) and multitude of pizza options. We just tried the seasonal Sunny Honey and I am hoping to get it again once more before it leaves. The self-serve toasted vanilla ice cream is incredible -- make sure to leave room for it! Important to note that you can walk up to the bar just to come to get ice cream...from experience :) They have a wide variety of wine and beers to pick from if that's your thing. Ask for a sample of a few if you aren't sure which to order! My one thing I'd love is if they had fountain drink options...I don't always want a glass bottle coke. A Diet Coke would be a great addition to a pizza-filled evening. read more

Hot take out delicious but a bit too burnt --next time will ask for less burn. Flavor if crust was excellent! Definitely a new favorite! read more
Very cool place! Tons of outdoor seating with a fire pit, inside seating and a bar! Make a reservation! A heads up the tables are mostly long tables so you will probably be seated by someone at the same table but it is fun! Our reservation was at 8 pm and we were not seated til 8:30. You are not able to sit at the bar because it is reserved so we waited by the hostess. Thankfully our waiter was amazing and everything we ordered came out very quick! It is just wine, beer and a few cocktails on the menu! I got something similar to a sauvy blanc and it was great! To start the marinated olives are amazing. So much flavor and the perfect little snack. We got the salad and this was incredible! Sooo much parm and the dressing was so fresh and very herby. The pizza is unreal. My boyfriend rated it the best in the city for artisan style. We got the cheese and the soppressata and hot honey. The soppresssata and hot honey pizza was unreal. I like a floppier pizza and it's soooo good. Lastly get the soft serve! It's so fun you get to walk over to the machine and fill up as much as you want! And the flavor is great! It is charred vanilla and the bowl comes with an espresso syrup on the side. Although we were seated 30 minutes after our reservation our waiter and the food made up for this! read more
Checked out this popular hipster brewery and cafe. It gets people just as excited for the food. Bungalow is the cafe operated by Middle Brow Brewery. Has quite a few things on tap to get. The food menu is pretty simple with pizzas and pastries. Basically beers are the main thing as expected. It's got a few interesting styles to choose from. They're as much known for the baked goods they make fresh so of course get you some of these. Has a pretty nice patio where the pets can hang. Place can get crowded so you may be at the front waiting. It's about $7 a pint. They like emphasizing how local it is seriously. Best one we had was the Hyper Local Lager. Pretty light but it's refreshing. Most of the menu is pizza. Wanted to get one but these are extremely ass expensive so fuck that. It can never be that good. There were a few things we could munch on such as pastries. It's about $6 for the Buckwheat Pound Cake. This is vegan with rhubarb preserves giving it a sticky sweetness. For sure try it with pizzas if it's with a group. It's closed Mondays. The menu is mostly pastries and pizzas but there's a few things okay for vegans. read more
This is a delicious spot that some friends recommended to me! My brother was in town visiting and wanted to try a new pizza spot, so we checked out Bungalow by Middle Brow. We had a delicious lunch. This place is truly unique and I am glad we stopped by. We split a Sopressata + Hot Honey pizza and Middle Brow Bread + Jalapeño Oil. We finished both plates. While sometimes pizza and bread can feel and taste similar when eating them during the same sitting, these two plates were vastly different and complemented each other. I hope to order the Big Salad next time, as I have only heard incredible things! Our server was very attentive and helpful. I didn't get a drink but my brother enjoyed his old fashioned. We came on a Sunday so they had bakery items, which looked delicious. I like the variety of offerings that they had. You truly couldn't go wrong and always had options if you weren't in the mood for a specific menu item. The vibes were very hip and cool. I hope to come back soon! read more

This is such a cute spot! Though there is a patio seating area, it is very much so limited as all the tables are fairly close to each other. It is pup friendly and there are a lot of families too. There are a lot of options as the menu offers pizza, sourdough bread, sandwiches, sourdough donuts, etc. They also have their own beer that was super tasty. The menu seems to rotate often based on seasonal offerings. When we went, it was August so a lot of the pizza toppings were fruity and summery. We shared the pork shoulder peach and plum and bacon togarashi pizza. I wasn't too sure about the peach and plum pizza but it was on the sweeter side. The bacon pizza was my personal favorite. The flavors reminded me of a creamy Asian spicy mayo omelette. As for the pizza dough, super thin and crispy and healthy because sourdough! It is on the pricier side though as each pizza is like a personal size and almost $30 each. We ended our meal with the vanilla soft serve which was really delicious and creamy and the sourdough blueberry donut. I've never tried a sourdough donut so I was intrigued. It tastes like a healthier donut where it's not as fluffy. The blueberry "frosting" was more like a blueberry jam. Overall, such a cute place to have a meal with the kids and pups! read more

Pizza... beer... sourdough... CARBS!!! Yessss!! Came in on a Tuesday and sat at the bar. We were greeted immediately and the staff were great. We got some drafts and tavern style pizza which is their dine in speciality on Tuesdays. The crust was cracker thin and cut into tiny squares. A nice crunch in every bite. Our first dinner in Chicago this week was at Middle Brow--a laid-back neighborhood spot that feels equal parts pizza joint, brewery, and community hangout. We dined indoors on a Tuesday, which at Middle Brow means one thing: Tavern Style night. If you're a fan of ultra-thin, cracker crust pizza cut into tiny squares, this is your night to go. We tried three pies: * Cheese - Simple, nostalgic, and exactly what a tavern-style cheese pizza should be. * Pepperoni - Crispy edges, classic flavor, but still minimal by design. * Kale & Sausage (Special) - The standout. Earthy kale with savory sausage--unexpected but easily the most memorable of the three. I'm someone who usually prefers a pizza loaded with toppings, but these pizzas had a certain charm in their restraint. You taste the dough, the char, the simplicity. Before the pies, we split the Wedge Salad, and I have to say--one of the better versions I've had. Crisp iceberg, thick-cut bacon, plenty of dressing... generous enough to share. We finished with their self-serve soft serve ice cream, topped with macerated berries. A fun, nostalgic finish that surprised me with how good it was. The berries make it feel almost grown-up. One note: like many Chicago restaurants now, Middle Brow includes a built-in 21% service charge. Not a complaint, just something diners should know--it's part of the model here. Atmosphere: Casual, buzzy, neighborhood feel. Indoor space was lively but not loud. Service was laid-back but friendly--very "Chicago relaxed." read more

We came here specifically for Tavern Tuesday to get their tavern style pizza and it was packed! Even on a day that was absolutely pouring with the summer thunderstorms, the covered patio was absolutely packed. It was a good thing we made a reservation (a couple weeks in advance actually, since reservations only were available weeks out) and we definitely recommend planning ahead. Otherwise you'll be waiting awhile! We ordered the veggie supreme tavern pizza and it was packed with flavor. It had a kick to it and was very savory. I loved the cracker thin crust. It really was like biting into a crispy cracker. The proportions of cheese and toppings were balanced really well. Two of us shared the pizza and it was more than enough for us both. We ended up taking some home. So delicious! I also love that this spot has amazing beer which pairs nicely with the pizza. Service is also excellent and very attentive. read more
Fantastic service and even more fantastic eats! This was our first stop in Chicago and a recommendation from social media that definitely lived up to the hype! The ambiance was warm and inviting and almost feels like you're in a friend's dining room. We got there right at lunch time and were seated right away. We ordered the Baker's lunch--the soppressata pizza and side salad were to die for!! So light and refreshing, yet so filling. The dressing on that salad is one of the best I've had. Upon finding out that it was our first time in Chicago, the owner personally sent us some treats on the menu (the pop tart and pizza dough sandwich) and sent us home with a bottle of house wine and beers. We loved it so much that we went twice during our 36hr Chicago trip! They also have a soft serve ice cream machine that serves spiced vanilla ice cream (comes with your purchase and SO yummy). I walked in because there are so much hype around the Tuesday tavern style pizza. I was lucky enough to meet the owner and give him my review. The tavern, stylist, razor, cracker thin. The sauce is not too salty and has a little bit of sweet component into it. The cheese is a fine quality and the toppings paired really nicely. Overall, my experience was a great one and if you love thin, cracker style pizza, then you are going to love the tavern style. Been here once just for beer and it was aight This time was so fire. Beer was very unique and yummy, shame the fire pit wasn't on. Good enough weather though and love a good patio. Pizza was insanely good. Stayed crispy and wasn't heavily greasy or salty, solid bread. Maybe be they make their own bread. These guys know bread. Pizza sauce was also very flavorful which is low key uncommon. Toppings also gas. Need to try more flavors read more

Updating my review for the beach water bagels Saturday morning pop up! I had no clue what to expect from this from a busyness perspective so we showed up a little before they opened at 9. There was a short line, but we were told if we were dining in we could skip the line and be seated (everyone was getting takeout). I was surprised by how few people were sitting and eating in because the space is so nice, especially outside! Our server was awesome. We split a few pastries which were unique and delicious, and the bagels were very unique and fresh! Lots of cream cheese on top, but I like that you can mix and match the bagel and cream cheese combos. The herb cream cheese definitely looked the best. This was fun to try and really tasty! Not necessarily the best bagel I've ever had, but with the atmosphere and the good food it was a morning well spent. read more
We have been here so many times this year and it's our go to spot to take out of towners. From the exceptional tavern style pizza on Tuesdays, to the best vanilla soft serve ice cream I've ever had, to the most delicious sourdough bagels on the weekends, it doesn't matter we love it all. We really wish there was a loyalty program with how often we found ourselves eating here. Oh well, maybe in 2026!! read more
Wow. That's the first thing that comes to mind. I had the highest expectations for tavern Tuesday and have been wanting to visit for years. A+ That's it, just go and enjoy. The beer and wine list had me questioning what to pick, so many unique options! Overall a great menu with many options for beer and wine lovers. Great patio! read more
I think this might be the best pizza I've ever had. Tavern Tuesday is the best time to go (if you can get a reservation) because the pizza is made very well! Not sure how they do it, but a regular cheese pizza tastes amazing here. Using sourdough as the dough is a life changer for pizza and it sits better in your stomach. Despite how busy it was, the food came out relatively fast. I'd love to come back here whenever in town. read more
