Came with a friend for dinner around 6:30 pm on a Sunday and we were seated right away. We got a table next to the windows that opened up and it was cool to see the trains passing by as we ate. We ordered the potato skins ($10) and nadene tavern style pizza ($30) to share. The potato skins were more like baby potatoes with a little bit hollowed out and filled with pulled pork, bacon, cheddar, sour cream, green onion, and tomato with a honey mustard dipping sauce. The flavor was really good and the honey mustard complimented it nicely but it only came with 6 small potatoes which wasn't worth the $10 to us. The pizza had cured pepperoni, hot honey, ricotta, basil, mozzarella, and marinara and was fantastic. I would come back just for this pizza. I started with the Italian Snack which I have to say was very fun and unique. Its base is salt and vinegar chips and topped with Parmesan cheese, cupped pepperoni and hot peppercinis. It was a tasty mix and the truffle dipping sauce was a perfect add. I also sampled the charcuterie board which had a fine selection of salamis, blue cheese, Brie and a mix of dipping options. Having a great Homeslice experience is all about managing expectations. If you're looking for the best pizza/apps/drinks ever, this is not the place you'll find them. The Michelin inspectors do not have Homeslice on their list, and you know something, that's okay. What the slice does do spectacularly well is their vibes. It's very much a laid back, beachy, sunny, summery, tropical, pineapple in almost all drinks sort of deal. Even the mojito was made with a splash of pineapple, because 'why not'? If Spongebob can make his home out of one, then I can have it in a cocktail without complaining. That said, unless you order straight whiskey or draught beer, the drinks are going to run on the sweeter side. In terms of the food, I was able to try the Nadene personal pizza, Burrata, and the Jalapeno homies. Everything across the board was fresh and rock solid. The Nadene pizza had wonderful heat, savoriness, and herbiness as well as a little sweetness from the hot honey (note to self= ask for extra next time). Jalapeno homies were perfect for those who like some heat in their lives, with cream cheese and veggies to take the edge off. The burrata was a great appetizer, but is better for groups, that one doesn't fill up on bread. While a little tomato would have been nice, I come back to this not being a fancy Italian restaurant. Something that really sets Homeslice apart is the service. Everyone from the host stand to the bar servers is very welcoming, friendly, and chill. Food comes out reasonably fast, too. Finally, when it comes to value, at Homeslice it is pretty average: not a steal, but by no means a ripoff, either. Final verdict: There are some places that are better experienced with a group of homies, and Homeslice is one such place. Although it's not a deep dish pizza, the flavor and crust was great and honestly as a tourist, I prefer to eat this than any of the basic Chicago pizza chains. I came here on a Friday at 6pm with my family (3 of us). We made a reservation before arriving, which I recommend because at 6:30 it was very full of families. This place is kid / parent friendly for sure. It's almost all people with kids. They do not have a kids menu or kids cups but it isn't a barrier because they are a pizza place with small pizzas. We got the hummus plate to start which comes with a red pepper hummus, Kalamata olives all over the place. There were cucumber slices, sliced carrots, and pita bread. It was good. But I wish that the hummus was served in a bowl with the dippers around the bowl as opposed to everything on one plate. Then I got the Caesar salad with blackened chicken, as a wrap with tater tots. On the menu they specify that you can do this. When I ordered it the waitress asked me several times if I still wanted the sun dried tomatoes, I said yes and she was appearing confused. It was good, not very CCSW flavored but not because of the sun dried tomato's. I think it didn't have enough Parmesan cheese or dressing but it was good. Just not a traditional one. My partner got the double patty smash burger which the waitress said was her favorite. He liked it, said it was nothing special, the bun looked thick. It also came with tater tots (they were coin like tots). My child got the small pepperoni pizza, they liked it, it's a 4 slides pizza, great size for kids, they have lots of size options. I mostly get takeout from Homeslice, and it was a weekly occurrence when I was marathon training in the winter to get pizza on Friday nights. The Nadene is my favorite and what I order pretty much every time I go. It's usually a quick turnaround from ordering to when it's ready, which I appreciate. I've eaten in a few times but it's not my preference. The outdoor deck is nice in the summer but it does get loud with the train. For some context, I'm celiac and I've been here a few times and normally love it because of their gluten free pizza. This time, I decided to get a cocktail along with my food. I mentioned I was celiac to my waiter and they acknowledged. I ordered "the umbrella" because I assumed it was gluten free since the description of the drink was just "vodka and grapefruit" (I think). All the other cocktails included very in depth ingredients so I assumed I was fine. After finishing most of the drink I passed it around to some friends and they immediately tasted the "hoppy taste". I googled the drink and found out that the "grapefruit" taste was from grapefruit beer. Because nothing indicated my drink contained beer, I unknowingly consumed gluten. For someone with celiac disease, this is not a minor issue as it can cause significant health consequences. read more

This time I tried an espresso martini and was surprised and delighted to learn that the foam is not dairy, but somehow chickpeas. Don't knock it till you try it. It's pretty good. Homeslice is an extremely unique restaurant in the heart of downtown Chicago, a gathering place to watch a football game over appetizers, enjoy a family pizza night, or even a weekend brunch (complete with mimosas, of course!) Homeslice really goes above and beyond your average pizza joint by immersing guests in an indoor patio equipped with foosball tables, fireplaces, and photo ops, making it possible for tailgate season to last all year long! In true tailgate fashion, my family decided to split a variety of appetizers--the charcuterie board, the buratta, and the chips and salsa. Starting off with the charcuterie board: I enjoyed the selection of cheeses, with the Brie being my favorite. A tiny pot of fig jam was included on the board, and it complemented every cheese perfectly, adding a hint of sweetness, not overpowering but instead enhancing the flavors of the cheese. My only critique is that there were not enough crackers/crostini for all four people. The buratta appetizer was a crowd favorite at my table, and we especially enjoyed the crostini that came with it. Usually, I view those types of things as merely vessels for toppings or dips, but this crostini stood out on its own. I loved the blend of seasonings and the melted cheese on top! I was a little skeptical of ordering chips and salsa when we weren't at a Mexican restaurant, but I'm glad we took a chance on them! The salsa was packed with fresh vegetables, not watery at all. The chips were great, too, we even tried them topped with buratta! One thing I find really neat about Homeslice is that they serve brunch every weekend from opening to 3:30 pm.
