Okay, so I went in expecting the coffee to be awful, and it was. But what I didn't expect was that a place with 'bagel' in its name, that makes the things on site, would have such mediocre bagels. I got a multigrain with regular cream cheese from an efficient but in no way friendly counter staff. The bagel came out fast, but I waited in line, since they had the folks working the cash registers also making the drinks. Once I paid my nearly $5 (for one bagel with plain cream cheese and a large coffee) to the hangdog-looking woman at the register I went home to try the bagel, which was overly chewy, with little crust, and actually tasted a little stale. Do not order delivery from this place. There is about a 50% chance your food will not be delivered correctly (missing or wrong food items) or on time (can be upwards of hours late). Pio Bagel, when we told them to refund us or deliver the items they failed to deliver, doubted that we had ordered the item despite it being on the receipt right in front of me. Another time, when we noticed something missing in the delivery before the delivery person left, he told us he would come back and deliver the missing item or refund the purchase, did neither, and even after calling the store directly, we never got a re-delivery or refund. I can't even believe these gluten-free bagels. They are so perfect and look and taste so much like regular bagels that I am always terrified that they gave me the wrong bagel and I'm going to get poisoned. It's surprising that they aren't packaging and selling these in stores because nobody holds a candle, even the NY Bagel spot in Astoria that I'd been making pilgrimages to until I found Pio. 12/20/15 - I stopped in a few days ago when it was raining out to grab some lunch. I had the fresh turkey with lettuce tomato on a whole wheat everything bagel. As other reviewers have noted, the gluten free bagels really are very good here. Like, they taste and have the texture of the real thing (as best as I can remember -- been a couple of years!) and they are deliciously fresh baked. And they don't gouge you for the gluten free option: the bagel with specialty cream cheese was $4. Best yet, the bagel is a nice big size, so you could actually order an egg and cheese sandwich and it wouldn't be spilling out the side. Coffee is very expensive here and not a really good quality. The place is small and I don't really liked the atmosphere, it's kinda simple and modest. I saw bagels, oatmeal and some kind of salads but we haven't tried them. For good coffee I recommend Casella on the other side of the street. The staff is way more friendly there. read more

This is my favorite place to grab a bagel while on my way to work!!! The staff is friendly and the service is speedy. AND of course the bagels are delicious. They're not enormous like some Brooklyn bagel places, but they're fresh and made on site! The -1 star is because their iced coffee is slightly stronger than water and you don't get to put in your own milk and sugar. Get your caffeine fix elsewhere. read more

Pio Bagels is conveniently located near the Jay Street Metro Tech stations. They have many options and even have gluten-free bagels. They also have a few variations of tofu cream cheese. What more could you ask for? You can get your bagel toasted but I'd ask for double, as once in the oven isn't enough. By the time you bite into it, it's soggy from the cream cheese. read more

Went into Tio Bagel this morning to buy oatmeal. One of the gentleman in the back, maybe the manager was watching me with the oatmeal. He then walked over and said " Ay yi yi you don't know how to serve your self". I told him that I had it under control and that i didn't need any assistance. He still insisted and at this point i was boiling mad because first of all im a customer. You don't tell me that I dont know how to serve myself especially if im paying for my food with the money i work hard for. Afterwards he tried to smooth it over by cleaning up a little spill from my oatmeal which i also could have done myself. Tio Bagel has great food but who ever that guy was felt comfortable enough to express himself that way to me and on that note I'd rather by my oatmeal and bagel somewhere else. Wow! Greatest gluten-free bagels EVER! We hail from San Francisco where the last GF bagel I had practically made me cry in frustration. I thought I would give Brooklyn a try, since the best Yelp reviews for GF bagels were all in Brooklyn. We were close to Pio Bagels, so headed over for breakfast. This time I almost cried from happiness. The gluten-free bagel tasted no different from the regular bagel my husband had. It was so great! Then things just got better and better. I went to the counter to see if I could get six GF bagels to go for the next day. No problem. Javier, the manager, was so nice and helpful. He asked me what flavors I wanted, and what time I wanted to pick them up, so they could be freshed-baked right before. Javier even offered to ship them to me in the future. Great bagel, great coffee and really excellent lox spread. VERY friendly staff. Using the restroom in the back of the kitchen was not a problem. Tiny places like this in urban areas usually tell you "Sorry no bathroom". Eating things with my hands, I like to was first. No problem here. They have a small buffet that looks really good too. 2/7/2017 Decided to try it again since I got an answer from the manager. I ordered on the phone from home at 7:29am to be exact. I ordered a toasted bagel with egg. I got there at 8:04am and was surprised that the place was empty. I thought to myself "great my food should be ready. " NOPE the food was not done a simple tasted bagel with scrabbled egg! I told the cashier are you kidding I ordered more than a half an hour ago. I didn't get my food till 8:12am to be exact. Came to the conclusion that you just cannot get food from here if you are in a rush. By the way there was no "we are sorry the food wasn't ready" no apologies at all. It is sad the customer service sucks cause the food is actually very good, but waiting almost an hour for a toasted bagel and scrambled egg is not worth it. read more

I used to order from this place all the time, decent bagels at a decent price. It seems to have gone down hill. I live maybe 4 blocks away so you would think delivery wouldn't take that long. Recently it's been taking upwards of an hour and half and when I call to ask where my food is they get really rude on and hang up. Stopped by for breakfast after grand opening. and saw many familiar faces behind the counter, so started wondering whats up with this place. So it turns out that its owned by same people who owns TIO PIO which has been my favorite joint in the neighborhood for Breakfast and lunch. Pio bagel bakes their stuff on site. I am not a big bakery items fan, so have not tried any of those. but trusting TIo PIo's Biz model, m sure they will be the best place to stop by for bagel in the morning. But my breakfast platter was better than I any other place. Gourmet ingredients and well prepared. The only reason I wont go there again for platter is because they dont have the Grits which Tio PIO has. but Great people, great food and great location! read more

My rating reflects the ridiculous pricing policy. Specifically, I ordered the 2 egg special that comes with a coffee. I asked for decaf and was told that would cost extra. Never mind that there is a 20 cent difference in price between regular and decaf (!) but they wanted to charge me full price for the decaf of $1.50 on top of the platter price that already includes a regular coffee. Also, they charge $2.35 for a large coffee that is just okay. Too much. I want to like this place but they're making me think twice every time. read more

Good bagels and lots of variety of cream cheese but be careful if you order the olive cream cheese. I nearly broke my tooth on the olive pits which are in the cream cheese. The Bagels here are good. I have been here quite a few times and have had a four star experience. Except one thing, there is a cashier that works in the morning that has an attitude, typically doesn't make a difference I get in and get out no problem. Today I went in and tried to purchase a bagel and it was under $6 so she refused my debit. Which I get that is a policy but I have purchased the same item multiple times via debit and now she decides to have an attitude about it. Furthermore I said all i have is card i apologize, you can either keep the bagel or run the card it's up to you. She proceeded to rip the Bag from my hand and through it in the trash and scream next. This is really were I was offended. I will not be back and I also work in an large office and will recommend other breakfast spots. read more

The food is actually pretty good. They provide a REAL NYC bagel, freshly made on the premises. The service however is god-awful. The ordering process is usually pretty decent, and it doesn't take too long to make whatever it is you're ordering. But the cashiers are ridiculously slow and lack the skills to do even menial tasks. Example? I was running late for work and bought a plain ole bagel... not toasted, no cream cheese, no nothing. Just the bagel. It's $1. The lady in front of me was disputing her order, holding up the line. I offered the $1 so that I could continue on my merry way... the cashier was unable to accept it because she was midway through the other lady's ring up. IT'S A DOLLAR!! Seriously, had to wait in line another 5 minutes for the dispute to be resolved, the ring up finished, for her to take my dollar. Wow. In addition, if you need to get in and out, I recommend placing a pick up order on seamless.com. No order minimum (for pick up) and you can use a debit card no problem. If you show up in person, they have a $10 minimum for debit/credit cards. Overall, I have to feel desperate to put up with the questionable service and silly policies. I am not one to carry cash on me, hardly ever. Too much hassle for breakfast. BUT when i am really desperate for a delicious bagel, I will go back. read more
