This place has been here for 20+ years and I remember coming here when I lived in the hood but I don't remember it being this good! Service was a tad slow at first but it corrected itself thank god. Cocktails were phenom albeit pricey $12-14 but hey it's Chicago duh and well worth it bcoz they were potent and delish! If you're hungry don't get too carried away with apps like we did because we over ordered. The apps were all fantastic: crab Rangoon perfectly crisp and filled with actual crab and cream cheese; summer roll was fresh and flavorful; lettuce wraps were substantial and No you needn't ask for more lettuce bcoz you get enough; soft shell crab was great; grilled pot stickers were awe-sum! Second round of drinks: ginger margarita and watermelon martini, thank you very much. Entrees: generals chicken was the best General tso chicken ever. Thai basil beef was complex, flavorful, hot and with crisp veggies yummers. Shrimp egg foo young was surprisingly excellent and had lots of plump perfectly cooked shrimp. Would I come back here? If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Yesterday I went to Ping Ping to pick up my dinner and when I walked in I noticed one of the managers shoeing one of their employees to the back like a grandma were to do to her grand kids or like I do to my pet dog. I was extremely taken back by this because it was done to their only black employee. I don't care what the reasoning behind this was, you do not treat your employees like a dog or less than a human. 100% felt like they didn't want their black employees to be in the front on the floor taking care of customers. I have been to this place many times and the employee I'm talking about is the reason why I come back. He is the most wonderful, kind and professional employee they have and he deserves to be treated as such. I tried to go here last summer when I was grossly dehydrated and we sadly had to leave. Oops. Fast forward and we needed to eat after a couple rounds at a nearby dive bar and lots of walking around in the sun. First of all, any time I'm greeted by a gorgeous drag queen, I'm already in. We sat at one of their patio tables, which was pretty small but the whole restaurant opens up into the outdoor area, eliminating any feeling of being boxed in. They had an awesome list of fruity martinis, which is my favorite way to get into trouble. Between three of us, we tried some combo of the ginger, the lychee, the pear and the Indochine. All highly recommended, depending on your booze preferences. We shared some salt and pepper calamari as an appetizer. Hopefully you haven't been sleeping on this like I did for so long-- I always thought, what's so special about salt and pepper? But it's now become a favorite-- so flavorful with a little heat. We also tried some Mu Shu chicken, Mexican maki roll, chicken pad thai and cucumber salad. And despite all this food, we still had room for the rum soaked mango with pound cake for dessert. Everything was really awesome and the service couldn't have been better. We never had to wait more than a couple seconds for anything. Given the damage we did, between the drinks and the food, I didn't think the bill was exorbitantly priced. Lakeview has an abundance of Asian food but Pingpong really really checks the box. read more

I live nearby so I've gotten takeout as well as dine in. Either experience is pleasant. Their drinks are a little on the pricey side in my opinion but they're great. The food is delicious but again a little pricey. But I will say their food isn't overly greasy and heavy like a lot of Chinese restaurants, which I really appreciate. It feels more fresh and clean if that makes sense. The convenience and the quality is what keeps me coming back! Overall: Some of the best Asian food I've had in a while, and definitely the best in the area. Will definitely be returning! The good: Fantastic, authentic, delicious food. The shumai was amazing, and the entrees were great. The drinks looked fantastic as well. The decor and environment is very cool and romantic in a way. Solid Chinese restaurant on Broadway st! Staff was very friendly and even though it was busy (for a Thursday night) the food came out in a timely manner and our waiter was very attentive. For an appetizer we got steamed pot stickers and crab Rangoon. They were both really good and rather filling (probably all the carbs). For dinner I got the Pad see ew and my friend got sweet and sour chicken. Both very basic things to get at a Chinese restaurant I know .... But anyway, they were both delicious and I loved how thick the noodles were in my dish. I got it with chicken and they definitely did not skimp out on the meat. I had plenty of chicken and vegetables in my dish. His dish was very true to the name. It was legit "sweet". It wasn't like a fast food sweet and chicken you get in a mall that's Americanized, it was very true to its roots and definitely sweet. Honestly, I can't believe this place has 3.5 stars. I've wanted to try this place for a while but it always seems to be booked. Always walked past it and noticed how aesthetic it looked from the outside. Took my mom out for dinner here since she lives in the neighborhood. The food and service was excellent. The staff is very attentive and ensured we were taken care of. We sat inside on a warm spring evening and the views were terrific. My mom and I both had the hot and sour soup. We agreed it was the best we ever had. I swear I could taste every ingredient in the soup. Going back specifically to see if the experience can be replicated. This is a cute spot with decent but overpriced food. I've been here twice and each time had a good experience, but not stellar. I've tried Singapore street noodles, fried rice, mushroom chicken, and crab rangoons, and all were good but not great. In particular, the crab rangoons claim to be lump crab meat, but inside is the tell-tale hot pink coloring of artificial crab, so I'm a little skeptical. The best parts of my experience were the great decor, fantastic service, and those adorable chocolate-dipped fortune cookies. I might come back just for those fortune cookies because I'm a sucker for unnecessary flair like that. Overall I would come back here again and I would enjoy it, but I'm not dying to return and probably won't make it a regular stop. read more

Good food, great service. I came here on a Saturday night with my girl. There was no wait and we were seated immediately. Our server was awesome. He showed up right as we were seated with moist towelettes to wipe our grubby mitts. He seemed to have some sort of mental link with us so he anticipated anything we might need. More rice? Boom. There it is. More water? The water guy is refilling your glass just as you were about to say something. I ordered the spicy garlic chicken. I didn't think it was terribly spicy, but I have a high tolerance for such things. It was a fine dish, though the sauce was a bit thick for my taste. Your meal ends with a chocolate-covered fortune cookie. Perfect. Just perfect. The restaurant has an interesting vibe. It's decorated far more upscale than the place merits. The menu says it's inspired by "Old Shanghai, Interwar China 1930s." While you're there, you'll hear a variety of old tunes from big bands and Louis Armstrong. Definitely a unique take on a Chinese place. I loved that. The food alone is good. The service is what makes Ping Pong worth a return visit. read more

They have some great Asian food, with plenty of vegetarian options. I got the pad see ew, vegetable dumplings, the ping pong maki and everything fried rice. Everything was delicious and we were able to take lots home. MSG Warning!!!!! A friend recommended Ping Pong and it is a beautiful setting, but within 20 min of eating I started feeling funny. Out of curiosity, I asked the waiter if they use MSG. He confirmed "in some dishes". I had "Harvest" which the waiter recommended. Not only did the dish make me sick from the MSG but it was unremarkable and like a 'standard' Chinese dish you can get anywhere (same crinkle cut carrots and same cornstarch sauce). I don't normally write reviews, but I felt compelled because this was SUCH A BAD EXPERIENCE. Underwhelming food and drinks. Ordered a Maki roll and dumplings for apps then moved on to the Kung Pao Chicken and their signature noodle dish. The only thing that stood out was the shrimp tempura within the Maki roll which preserved a two star rating. Everything else we either threw out after taking it home or ate out of hunger. To top it off, our service was rushed and didn't make any thoughtful recommendations. We will not be returning despite living just a few blocks away. read more
