I don't know what has happened to this restaurant but it isn't good. Tonight I was assured that "this is the best rib eye in town", well if that's true than there is a problem city wide. Under seasoned, over cooked and when I requested a vegetable other than the roasted brussel sprouts I was informed that that was the only vegetable they had, 5 minutes later the server waiting on the table next to us informed the patrons that they had cauliflower and carrots if they wished. Well luckily there was a baked potato but unfortunately when it arrived, with the dismal steak, it wasn't even hot enough to melt the butter. And don't let me get started on the peach crumble desert.....Do chefs not taste their own food anymore? And you too can have this for the low low price of $35.95 + desert! So disappointed! read more

My husband and I went for an afternoon happy hour and couldn't believe the amazing experience we had! They have 2 large tents set up with views of the river and heat pumped into them! I had been to Pine Tavern several years ago and had fond memories of good food and excellent service, remembering that feeling of having been well taken care of. Our family's experience last Sunday was far from that - our waiter, Mark, was slow and forgot to bring one of our cocktails - after complaining that it wasn't ordered with the first round and never even checked in during dinner to see if we wanted something else, like more wine, cocktails, dessert.... The dinners, pastas, soup and salads were pretty good but overall experience was very disappointing. On a positive note, there was another waiter who looked like he was busier with more tables and was so attentive to his customers we were jealous! read more

We finally took an excursion away from Portland/McMinnville and spent a few nights in Bend. We've eaten at the Pine Tavern many times before but had never sat outside. All I can say is oh my! Sitting on the sloping lawn on a warm sunny evening was nirvana. We were with our college aged kids who are (hopefully) headed to their campuses pretty soon. The setting was spectacular, the service was superb, and the food was quite good also. It was one of our favorite meals ever. read more

We arrived at Pine Tavern Restaurant for the very first time ever and were seated outback within 10min if arriving. We were sat on the back patio because we had our dog with us. Thank goodness! The view was absolutely beautiful. I would for sure recommend sitting out back dog or not. There is a river running through the back side of the restaurant. The food was delicious! We started out loving the clam chowder. It was a great start to our meal. We ordered the three cheese mac n cheese with bacon, the meatloaf plate and the chicken Marsala. The three of us tried each other's meals and all agreed the food was delicious! Our server recommended the peach lemonade and that was also delicious! Our portions were even the perfect size. We all left feeling full. Kim was our server and she was incredibly attentive. She was everything you want in a server! She never made us wait for anything except for our food while it was cooking, after she took our orders and filled our drinks. She always made sure we had water and our other drinks were always taken care of and full. I was so excited they have creme brûlée, then Kim recommended the cheese cake. So we bought both. WOW! You cannot go wrong with with either one unless you already disliked one before you got here. The cheesecake is so incredibly creamy, just like homemade cheesecake and the creme brûlée has an extra thick layer of hardened sugar on top of it. This place is charming, the people are friendly, they are dog friendly, very attentive, the food is delicious, the desserts are amazing and their prices are totally reasonable! Worst service I've ever experienced. We sat down on an exceptionally slow Tuesday evening around 6:30 and waited 10 minutes to be addressed by our waitress. Ordered drinks to start and after 10 minutes, the bartender was STILL not preparing our cocktails. We left, vowing never to return. We'd been warned this place was not a good option by other locals and now we understand why. There were a total of 10 diners in the whole place and waitstaff just standing around. I don't post often but I just had to tonight after visiting Pine Tavern. My wife and I stopped in here today. It was hot outside and the menu looked like a lot of heavy food, so we weren't all that excited. The hostess was really sweet and seated us right away. Our waitress, Madison, was one of the best servers I have ever encountered. She was really understanding about the hot weather and was apologetic when she didn't need to be. She made us feel at home and was perfectly attentive and professional. Given the tough circumstances in Bend with employment shortages in the service industry, we were so pleasantly surprised at the service here. The food was good and straight forward. Nothing fancy or exotic, just tasty and homey. Was not something I'd normally want on a hot summer evening but the service made everything perfect. This was our first try at dining-in as restrictions have been lifted for Covid19. Pine Tavern moved through it with the grace and ease you would expect. Lots of precautions in place but everyone was delightful and our food was outstanding. This time we had fish & chips and clam chowder and it was so good! The fish was done to perfection and not the least greasy. The chowder chunky with lots of clams and yet silky smooth. My husband and I have been here several times throughout the last 20 years or so. His parents were in from out of town so we made a reservation for a nice dinner. They gave us 1 menu for our whole table. When we asked our server for another menu, we got some weird excuse about "because of covid all menues were single use, and we throw them away after every use, and its it's pretty costly, so table gets 1". Jeez pine taven at $30-45 /plate didnt realize an extra .27 cents per menu was , cutting that hard into your budget. at lease recycle it instead of contributing to a ton of trash, or do a digital menu, like most have switched to. No refills on my iced tea, rib eye was way overcooked. The filet was good. We really like the nostalgia of the rather unchanged simplistic environment, but this place unfortunately for the last few times we've been since McCormick & schmicks bought them out, the quality has not been there, and the service was awkward. read more

We decided to try the Pine Tavern while vacationing in Oregon last month. Nice place. We sat out on the back Patio. Beautiful view of the river. They had some of the patio heaters on, since some of the people dining outside were cold. They must have been locals and use to more heat. I'm a coasty and their 73 degree weather was fine with me. Vince was our server. He was pleasant, fast, and checked on us just enough to make sure we had what we needed. The place filled up fast at lunch time. The chips and guac were great. Freshly made guacamole with warmed chips. Yum. I had the smoke salmon salad, which was very good. Howeird had the Oyster lunch and he enjoyed it. All in all, good food, nice ambiance, great service. Seemed pricey for a lunch menu. I understand the Pine Tavern is an iconic central Oregon landmark and it was worth trying. Eating outside on the patio was probably the best part of this experience so when we go back to Bend, and we will, I can see us going there for lunch again. read more

Yeah they've got a tree in the middle of their restaurant. Thats about it... oh and the scones are great. The amount of food you get for what you pay is a joke. Half the time it doesn't even taste right. Last time I went there was the LAST time I will ever go there. We left laughing at the "crab paste" we received with our steak and crab.......... no crab. CRAB PASTE on top of a beef nugget more like. Save some money, go elsewhere. Unless you want to see the tree of course. lol read more

Recently visited this Bend institution with family for a special outing. Great expectations - poor result. Reservations were unfortunately no help, as despite the fact the restaurant was not busy, the apparently inexperienced hostess did not have us seated until we inquired twice some 30 min after our reservation! The waiter was equally "new" as he greeted us by saying there was nothing "special" on the menu that day. I think what he meant to say was there were no specials that day, even though it was a holiday - strange. Not shaping up to be the outing we were so looking forward to. Ordered the crab cake eggs Benedict, but the server was confused and asked where that was on the menu??!! Apparently did not know his own menu. Very (unusually) sloppy for Pine Tavern. Our Order came with uncooked egg whites (gelatinous and translucent) YUK! Sent it back and the manager brought out the replacement EXACTLY THE SAME! "That is how we cook them", he defended. No it is not. Eggs Benedict is a staple of the NW and Pine Tavern has been cooking perfect food for ages...WHAT HAS HAPPENED? Finally got our eggs cooked more properly but the taste was bland and the presentation was everything you would expect... from a cafeteria! Strangely, even the bloody mary was uninteresting as well, looking more like a glass of watered down tomato juice. I have since heard the PT has been sold to new owners who fired 17 staff members, so me of whom were there for decades. If this is true, the new management has really created a disaster for themselves. What used to run like a well oiled machine is now no better than fast food. Finally, I recommend you never tell a customer the reason you took so long to seat their reservation is because they arrived 5 or 10 min late when the house is only 50% filled. Customers are never late. The manager even tried to tell us we couldn't be seated at one of several available tables because they were reserved for other customers. Really? Comped our meal, but it didn't matter much. We were there for an enjoyable experience and some stunning food. We got poor service from a team of rookies, and food that had no soul. Incredibly disappointed by their Christmas dinner menu. The salmon was burnt and dry as a saltine cracker. They did not serve rice pilaf with it even though the menu said it came with, the potatoes were hard, and the Brussels sprout salad was cold and soggy. The turkey and stuffing was so salty I had to drink water with every bite. The scones were hard and chewy. I'm not sure who the head chef is, but they need to reevaluate their menu and the people who make it, or maybe find a new job themselves. Horrible!!! read more

This historical place down by the river was perfect for our Wed. night meal upon arriving in Bend. It opened in 1938. We chose to eat in the front room which is more casual. There is a dining room in the back of the building along the river which features more upscale dining. Hamburgers are only $5 on Wed. if you order a drink. A simple meal, but the burger was outstanding and they have a nice selection of beer and wine. Homemade bun with cheddar and all the condiments included. It's a busy place and I can see why. Hope to return on our next visit. read more

The food is good, end of story. The hostess had an attitude and the server, Robert, was so busy yelling about California to other guests across the room that he could not even refill my mom's wine. I have never seen such unprofessional attitudes in a supposedly nice restaurant. The server yelled next to me for 15 minutes about such a negative topic, and on top of it ignored our table. I will not be going back just because of the service. The only reason they aren't getting one star is because of the food being decent. read more

If I've had better service during a meal, I can't remember it. Every need seen to without constant pestering. One of my companions and I both had messy finger-food type of dishes. I asked for wet nap packets. We received hot, moist towels which is several steps up from that. Our server, Ashley, had an in-depth understanding of the restaurant's specials, the menu in-general, and a deep understanding of the wine list. Four Seasons-level service with none of the pretension. A beautiful outdoor setting sort of like the most high end Beergarten, but with high-level al fresco dining - large, round, tables rather than picnic tables and benches. Eat and drink here. What a disappointment. Took a visiting friend here for the ambiance and reliability, and got neither. Hostess was surprisingly unfriendly. Then we were seated up against a wall, at the only table with no view despite all the other tables in the row being empty for the duration of our (longggg) visit. We waited over 30 minutes for dinner after ordering (nothing was offered in the interim - no explanation) for our guest to THEN be told her selection was sold out. I am a longtime customer of the Pine Tavern. first visited there over 50 years ago. It used to be fabulous, it has now turned into a mediocre dining experience. We ordered the Chicken Marsala , one of their star entrees and it was good. The other order was Meatloaf, again a signature dish and I have had better at a Denny's. Dried out, gravy was not a brown type gravy like they used to have but more a peppercorn sauce and it tasted burned. Calamari was soggy and we sent it back. Too bad as I really like the place but I wont be back. read more

I love this place. We have had a great brunch and dinner here. The brunch was fabulous and I loooooved their prime rib sandwich blue plate special. YUM. It was perfect. Dinner was a bit pricey but still very good. We had OUTSTANDING service both visits. Our preschooler was a bear at our last visit (it was a "What were we thinking?!" moment) and our server was spectacular. He brought our son's food right away, delivered crayons and helped out in any way possible. Perfect. I can't wait to return when we can enjoy dining without our little monster. read more

I went with a church friend, who had remembered going to this restaurant many times over the last 50-60 years and she was quite disappointed. Disappointed in the slow service and the menu choices. She ordered a chicken sandwich, but ended up just eating a little of the chicken patty and told me that it tasted different, not very good. Being vegetarian and gluten free, I could only have a side salad of mixed greens with just a few tomatoes and craisins. It tasted like I could get it at a fast food place with a higher price and added craisins. I was certainly hungry afterwards. We both agreed to not go here again. We recently had the opportunity to have Easter Brunch at the Pine Tavern. To say the least it was very disappointing. 1. Very limited choices of food. 2. Several of trays and pans were near empty or completely empty 3. Eggs were not seasoned at all and cold 4. No butter available for the overdone waffles 5. The pastries available were simply what you could buy out of any supermarket 6. to be charged for tea and soft drinks after paying $31.95 is simply greedy. 7. And the desserts - really!!!! In the past 50 years we have ate many, many meals at the Pine Tavern. Trust me when I say this was not your finest hour. We are senior citizens and to pay the prices charged for this brunch is a huge deal. We really expected something much better. In conclusion I did write to Pine Tavern on there website.
