Super friendly staff on Sunday night! The restaurant had great vibes and a super clean restroom

After celebrating a friend's birthday, I found myself wandering around Broadway late at night when the universal late~night food alarm went off: I NEED PIZZA. I spotted Pie Hole, saw the reviews, and figured this was worth investigating. And honestly? This place has a LOT going for it. First impressions were fantastic. The staff was friendly, fast, and genuinely informative, which is exactly what you want when you're making late-night pizza decisions after a birthday celebration. The atmosphere is also a huge part of the appeal ~ it's got that funky, slightly chaotic late-night energy with video games, pinball machines, neon, and plenty of personality. But then I noticed something that immediately earned points from this New Yorker: GRANULATED GARLIC + RED PEPPER SHAKERS. THANK YOU. If you've spent any amount of time in a real NY pizzeria, you know these two bottles aren't optional accessories. They're practically part of the pizza-making experience. I don't understand pizza shops that make you hunt down garlic powder like you're searching for the Ark of the Covenant. Pie Hole understood the assignment. I tried two slices: Baked Potato ~ green chile & bacon Slice of the Day ~ salami, sun dried tomato & artichoke Both slices looked promising, and the toppings were definitely there. Unfortunately, the flavor didn't quite hit the level I was expecting. The biggest surprise was the crust. That's where I have to put on my New Yorker hat for a minute. Don't come here expecting the dough of a classic NY slice. For me, the crust was the least flavorful component of both slices. It lacked the seasoning, character, and overall flavor I look for in pizza dough. The toppings actually had more personality than the crust, which made the whole slice feel a little one-dimensional. And surprisingly, even after adding the garlic and red pepper~which I absolutely did~both slices still didn't deliver the flavor punch I was hoping for. Then there's the price. At $5 per slice, these aren't exactly the gigantic NY slices many of us grew up with. When you're accustomed to a massive slice that practically hangs off the plate, $5 for a medium-sized slice can make you pause. That said, for Denver's late~night food scene, I can understand it. You're paying for the location, convenience, atmosphere, and the ability to get pizza when a lot of other kitchens have already shut down. And that's ultimately where I think Pie Hole shines. Late-night destination? Absolutely. Best pizza I've ever had? Not quite. I would come back, especially late at night, because there are plenty of other slices on that counter calling my name. The atmosphere is fun, the staff is excellent, and having video games/pinball while crushing a late-night slice definitely adds to the experience. I just wouldn't personally spend $5 on a basic cheese slice here, especially when Denver has plenty of other pizza options competing for that money. Bottom line: Pie Hole is a cool Broadway late~night hangout with good service, personality, and a serious selection of slices. The garlic and red pepper shakers earned an immediate NYer's seal of approval, but the pizza itself left me wanting more seasoning and~most importantly~a crust with some character. If you're down on Broadway near Canopy or Badger Bar and the late-night pizza cravings hit? Drop in. Just bring your expectations with you... and grab the garlic shaker. They offer fountain & canned soft drinks + canned beer + garlic knots and salad. Open late night (3am). One gender free restroom with access code which is on street level. Has pinball machines, and an ancient Ms. Pac Man machine. Picnic tables and benches for seating. Lots of condiments including chili sauces. You order at the counter and they call your name. Pie Hole reminds me of the corner pizza shops in cities like NYC. They have pizzas out on platforms that they heat up slices of after you order. I personally love these kinds of place. I don't expect it to be the best slice of pie in the city, but it's reliable. I do wish the slices were not so high, but hey everything is getting more expensive now. The cashier got me cashed out and with food within a few minutes, which was great for grabbing a quick bite before popping over to HQ for a show. There are lots of options like Sweet Action, Insomnia, and Voodoo for grabbing something sweet afterwards too. I also loved that the restaurant also had pinball machines! I always love finding pinball machines while I'm out in the wild! My friends and I had a great time playing a number of rounds of Indiana Jones pinball before our concert too. I would keep this place in mind for a quick slice if I was in the neighborhood and needed something fast and reliable. read more

Ordered the sun dried tomato and pesto pizza by the slice; it was pretty average, nothing stood out to me really, but it was a pretty decent size. One slice was around $5. Went at an off time, but I liked the ambiance, and there are some arcade games you can play there as well. read more

Pie Hole is the casual, fast service, late night pizza joint that is just perfect for satisfying your hunger after a night out on south Broadway. (I went around dinner time after running errands, but I could see myself going to a place like this when I was younger/during my "going out" days.) I was pleased to see that they offer vegan options, which you don't always get from late night/fast service spots. The pizza is perfectly crunchy and really does remind me of the pizza I ate when I lived in New York. The only reason they get four stars rather than five is because the pricing doesn't reflect a late night/super fast/paper plate/by the slice type of pizza place. It's better quality than the dollar pizza places (now $1.50) in NYC, but maybe not significantly so, and it's like 4.50 for a plain cheese slice that is average sized. Most mediocre pizza for the most expensive price I've ever seen. Dude at the register let us know he was new because he didn't really know how to do anything and was a bit odd (where was other staff to help him lol?) Forgot to give us the marinara for the knots too. No topper cheese on the pizza so every topping pretty much just falls off. Ordered four slices, an order of knots + 3 sauces to go on June 7th. Two pepperoni slices, a roasted red pepper & basil slice + a cheese slice. The slices were wrapped in a big ball of aluminum foil, each piece separated by a paper plate. The roasted red pepper & basil slice was destroyed when I went to unpack the slices once I got home. My plain cheese slice had bits of paper plate stuck to it, so I had to remove some of the cheese from the slice before eating it. So disappointing. I've eaten here a lot & have never had this happen, but normally they package the slices + the knots in a box. read more

It looked good under glass, but in the future, I'll give it a pass. I was not impressed with Pie Hole's pizza at all. I was intrigued by this business as I drove by, so I stopped in for a slice. It's in an old building and looks a little run down inside. There are some old video games, a pinball machine, and some funky neon art work in the dining area. It was a little early, so there wasn't a line, or any customers for that matter. The employee I talked to was cool when I asked about the different pizzas and to turn on a soccer game. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza which looked alright in the display case. The price was around $3.80, which I thought was reasonable. I was pretty underwhelmed when I took my first bite. It was lukewarm, lacked flavor, and had a terrible crust. When I say terrible, I mean of the dried out cardboard variety. I considered going to the restroom to sprinkle it with water just to soften it up. I was having that much trouble chewing and swallowing it. While Pie Hole has some interesting features, and the staff was cool, I can't give it a great review. It's all overshadowed by the piss-poor-pizza. read more

I decided to try a piece of pizza at this place instead of Fat Sully's. It was New York style, with high quality ingredients. The dough was cooked with a perfect, firm crisp. I enjoyed its marinara sauce. I also greatly enjoyed my toppings of salami, white mushrooms, and sun dried tomatoes. I found the decor in there to be neat. It's also a little cheaper than Fat Sully's. I like being able to get high quality pizza in Denver. It's an immense upgrade from Blackjack and Old Chicago. Quite possibly the worst meal I have had in a long, long time. Way not worth it, especially with the price paid. Pizza was delivered. The Margheritah Eata Pizza was awful. It was undercooked. Doughy. Had to broil it to make it edible. The garlic dispersal was shabby, with small globules on maybe half the slices. Ordered Italian sausage as an additional topping. Paid for it. No sausage was put on. The garlic knots were undercooked. I was eating dough. Or maybe they tasted of dough and were rubbery because they were immersed in a standing puddle of buttery oil inside the tinfoil and had absorbed said liquid making four twisted yellowish masses of slightly browned dough to consume. Dear Pie Hole: displeased with the meal entire. Please have pride in the food you sell. This was not of any edible quality that I have experienced in this city of Denver. This place saves your life while out late in South Broadway. I came here with some friends at 2am on a Friday night. There was a small line, and most of the crowd were rambunctious but the kitchen staff here are pros. They work through the line and get people in and out with great tasting pizza. There are plenty of areas for seating in the back or you can take the pizzas to-go. You can order by slice and the pricing is listed at the front of the store. Amazing pizza partnered with awful service. I've been coming here for over a year now, when i first started coming i was ALWAYS welcomed with a smile and friendly faces. everyone who worked here previously seemed to really enjoy it. one of the previous people i'd seen left and then it was a trickle effect of losing the friendly ambiance they brought. the new staff were downright rude and seemed like they didn't enjoy their job. when i came in with a friend to show them one of my favorite places to come get pizza we weren't greeted with a smile but rather someone staring at the tablet in front of them for our order. i asked for two orders of garlic knots and was told they'd take 10-15, i waited 15+ and when i came to place my order for them they hadn't even been placed in the oven. i don't know if she'd forgotten or simply just didn't want to make them but i genuinely hope pie holes employees can turn it around for the better. i went from regularly frequenting here to not even wanting to come in due to the customer service. edit: this also isn't the first occurrence of this exact situation hence why i feel the need to comment on it. read more

Hole in the all pizza spot I came across while wondering around Denver. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste! A local man in the area suggested I try the potato & bacon pizza which was amazing! I would normally think that was a weird combination but I was wrong. Crazy toppings (good thing). So-so pizza. Good enough on a late night after some drinking. The ham, jalapeño, and pineapple wasn't a bad combination on any normal pie. Got a bunch of veggies on the other. There's a fair selection of topping options so that's pretty good. The rest of the crust, cheese, and sauce flavor just wasn't there for me. Not bad. Just Denver average. Plenty of grease on these puppies. The slices could've used a couple more minutes in the oven. The extra crisp would've done the slices well. Love getting food poisoning:) ordered delivery from this place last night around 11:30 pm. Let's not even talk about how the garlic knots had more garlic sauce than there were actual knots.. but more so, the fact that they don't pay attention to food safety is another thing. Please train your staff better so they have a better understanding and so people aren't getting food poisoning. You guys might wanna bring a thermometer and make sure your food is in the safe temperature zone cause the workers here obviously aren't paying attention. read more

It is open super late and very edible. If someone is coming here they know what to expect, late night and inexpensive pizza. As an added bonus they offer pretty cheap beer can along with your slices. My favorite thing about the whole experience is that if you get slices to go the pizza comes on multiple top and bottom of the super thin flimsy paper plates you may remember from childhood. In Denver it makes you feel like you're grabbing true sketchy late night pizza in the best way! read more
