Great food! Will come again on a future trip to aurora. Call ahead of time so that they can get your order in the oven before you arrive. We had the chicken pot pie, spicy chicken, and spicy lamb. All were very good! Will order the peppersteak next time. read more

Very good pies. Our group had a chicken pie, spicy veggie, cherry and blueberry pie. The crusts were very light and flaky. This place does not disappoint. Give it a try. read more

Pie Boss - Cherry pie. - South African Near Me - Aurora, Illinois

Absolutely love this place! My husband is South African, so for him to be excited about the meat pies tasting like "home" are a big deal which is exactly what he said on the first bite. For my first introduction to the "classic" steak and pepper pie I was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful it is! read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but they do great pies. A variety is offered from savory to sweet. You can order ahead and pick up or eat in. The pies can even be frozen, but they are delicious and never make it that far in my house. Enjoy! read more

Four stars for the pies; weak three for service. This is essentially a take-out place that happens to have two small tables for people who can't wait until they get home to eat these flaky-crusted savory treats. There are one or two people baking and taking orders and rather than greeting customers they seem a little puzzled about why you are there. The pies are baked fresh. The top crust puffs up in layers that melt in your mouth. Unless you visit when they have pies ready, be prepared to wait. You can also phone in orders ahead for pick-up. The day we visited they were out of spinach-feta and sausage rolls. We tried the chicken-mushroom -- good. The spicy vegetable was excellent and so was the pasty. We took home several frozen pies and they are every bit as good baked later. read more

Super friendly couple, delicious flaky crust, loved it! Will be back to try the dessert on Saturday :) read more

Pie Boss - Pepper steak and a pasty :P - South African Near Me - Aurora, Illinois

Wowwwwww!!!! In under 4 minutes I had a beautifully crusted delectable Pepper Steak Pie and the most delicious caramel apple tart.....AND with superlative service!! SO friendly! Love this place! Order a few frozen to make at home!! read more

I wanted to like Pie Boss more than I actually did. I typically work until around 6:00 most days, and they're open until 7:00... So it's sort of a rush to get over there before they close. The first time we went, we got there at around 6:30, and they didn't have any pies ready to go. Maybe my expectations are weird, but the places that serve these kind of pot pies in my experience aren't the kind of place you call ahead and order but instead just swing by and choose from the selection they have on hand that are ready to go. I guess this is the case with Pie Boss if you come around lunch, but it'd seem dinner is a prime time to also have your pies ready to roll out without needing to call ahead. Anyway, we came back the next day, phoned in 30 minutes ahead of time, and ended up getting a cheeseburger pie, a spinach and feta pie, and some kind of curried mushroom pie along with a sausage roll. First off, the crust on these things were just bananas. Flaky, perfect, pot pie crust that tastes incredible. The fillings though, we weren't so wild about. The mushroom one was my favorite, I didn't really dig the spinach and feta, and the cheeseburger one was just weird. I was expecting something closer to like, I don't know, Hamburger Helper Cheeseburger Macaroni instead instead of a legit burger patty, piece of American cheese, and ketchup. Really weird. The sausage roll was pretty good, but we really wanted to try their dessert pastries which I guess they only serve on weekends? We'll totally go back, as I feel like there's lots of potential here with the incredible crust they're able to produce on these pies, we just really haven't found a filling we're crazy about yet. If nothing else, the people who work there are SUPER nice, and it's cool seeing such an odd business (apparently) doing well in a random Aurora strip mall. I say check it out, get a wide assortment of pies, and share them. read more

My ex-wife is from northern Michigan and pies are everything there. I sniffed something fantastic in her kitchen and my daughter was finishing a steak and pepper pie. They had just gotten from this place called pie boss. The crust smelled especially good and there was a sale. I made my way there and got some desert pies and meat pies. It was delicious!!! The steak and pepper was a show stopper and particularly filling. The chicken peri peri was really spicy and flavorful. Definitely will be back again. read more

This place is great! I just wish it was closer, I'd definitely be a regular. We tried the chicken & mushroom pie, the sausage roll, and the steak pasty, while we were there. Each was terrific. They were all loaded with well seasoned fillings which were moist and flavorful. The owner told me that the meat in the sausage roll was 90% lean, which is amazing because it stayed so moist and flavorful. All of the pies/pasties shared the same buttery flaky crust that is made on a daily basis! The owner Ty was as nice as could be, and he explained all of the available pies that were ready to eat, as well as frozen pies to heat at home. We bought 4 pies to take home! This will be a regular stop anytime we go to the outlet mall in Aurora! read more

This food is really fun to eat and unique. The pies are held in round aluminum pie tins and baked. Each pie has a pastry crust that is crunchy and delicious on top. Inside you can have pepper steak, chicken curry, or other fillings that are insanely tasty. They also have sausage rolls and rice dishes. To state that this food is addictive is an understatement. Apparently they bake all kinds of different meats into the pies as I found out on Facebook. You can find out what special things they are cooking on particular days by checking there. Give this place a try! read more

Wow! We had the spicy vegetable pie and the chicken mushroom pie. The crust is super flaky and buttery. Next up, melktert! read more

Go here. This place is unique and delicious. We love everything on the menu and usually grab a few pies to keep in the freezer too. Our kids love everything just as much as us adults but they choose the less spicy items. The spicy is medium-to hot spicy. read more

My hubby LOVES the pies from here! They are fresh made and if you want something, make sure they have it as they sell out quick! I'm not a fan of meat pies, but he loves them! They have a couple veggie ones too read more

My Sons say, "I wish we could give these guys more than 5 stars". Says it all, but I'll explain. When we were getting blasted by the arctic vortex... My kids were home and we were anxious to get out of the house. We went for a food adventure. They didn't have any prepared because we were there very early, but we bought 1 of every meat pie and brought them home. The instructions for cooking are simple and easy to follow. The results?! I'M A GREAT PIE MAKER! :) We'll be back. (side note - My gps didn't know exactly where they were but we persevered and it was worth it) read more

Here is where FLAKY dough meets flavor! A no frills, very CLEAN place that sells great pies! A tad bit pricy, but the FRESHLY BAKED pies and the lovely people in there make up for it. :) Do give them a try! read more

I travel along Montgomery Road often, but I noticed the sign for the first time today. I stopped in thinking a fresh apple pie might be nice and was pleasantly surprised to find their specialty are seasoned meat pies. I bought a Spicy Lamb pie (more expensive than their $5.29 average price) that was ready to go. I concur with other reviewers - fabulous flavours, a perfectly done flaky crust, and delicious! The store is spartan, the front door is ridiculously poorly maintained (it scrapes on the pitched concrete), but the pie was great. A definite carry-out choice! read more

The best!!! Our favorite is tHe chicken pot pie... but all are soooo good! Love that you can get them frozen as well

Fantastic authentic South African meat pies and assorted treats! Owner is fantastic to deal with, I can highly recommend!

Wow. Highly recommend Pie Boss. Near a Subway sandwich shop and next to South African grocery store @ 1649 Montgomery Rd. in Aurora. South African SAVORY pies. Inexpensive. No booze. Not a big place. Lovely people. AND they cater. http://beaconnews.suntimes.com/photos/galleries/14976167-417/comings-goings-pie-boss-offers-s-african-take-on-classic.html read more

This place is truly amazing. My Fiancee and I have been here multiple times we have tried a few different pies but our favorite so far is the Pepper Steak. Staff is very friendly and they will take the time to explain what is in each pie. Only thing is I wish they were open later than 7pm. I suggest calling 30 minutes before so you can have a fresh baked pie ready when you arrive. read more

If you want to support family owned local restaurants, while enjoying a different take on take out, Pie Boss fits the bill. You can either order ahead of time, and they will bake it for you, or you can walk in and get what's available. We had the cheeseburger pie and the feta and cheese just now. SO good. There are also adorable mini dessert pies for $2.50. I'm glad I stumbled on this place. read more

Love the meat pies and their bunny chow! Convenient meal options and fast service too.

Amazing!!! The crust is so flakey and wonderful! I had the pepper steak and the flavors were delicious! I highly recommend this little gem!

We love this place so much! All of the pies we've tried are great. The sausage roll is amazing. We also like the dessert pies. If you want certain pies make sure to call ahead and order just in case. The owner is also super nice. read more

This place is awesome. Their customer service is excellent. I got sausages and meat pie and I kept eating them all day and still craving more. I would definitely go back there. I usually don't like spicy food but the spicy vegetarian was delicious!!!!! My fiance got the pepper steak pie and loved it!!! Flaky crust... great flavor... perfect. I'm a complete spicy food wimp but I'll be back for more! read more

The pepper steak, spicy chicken pies are delicious. The meat is so tender and the crust is buttery, flakey and tastes great, Not doughy or floury at all. Mini fruit pies are unreal, packing tons of flavor into a small item. We will be regular Patrons! read more

Pie Boss? First, I thought a new Pizza joint but upon further inspection it is a place that serves South African meat pies. One to try something new I went in and ordered a chicken and mushroom pie and a sausage roll. Upon further trips we have tried several of the other options and all are equally great. The wife and I have been back several times and it is a quality go to place. The menu is expanding with a couple of sweet pies which are just as good. When they say pie it is not the traditional 9" pie we are used to seeing, think pot pie size but way better. read more

This is a fantastic little shop that produces some really great pies and lovin' from the oven! Thankfully, the shop is on the way home! My husband and I decided to sample the savory meat pies, and we were not disappointed. We tried the pepper steak and cheeseburger pies tonight. Bought frozen, we followed the directions, and they turned out perfectly. They offer their items in frozen form, so you can take and bake. Preheat the oven to 325, brush the tops with milk or egg wash, bake for about 45 min - 55 min. totally worth the wait! Like some of the other reviewers, the pie crusts are fantastic - tender and flaky... filled with goodness! The pepper steak pie had a good filling of tender chunks of beef and a fantastic gravy which was seasoned perfectly, and plenty for every bite of pie. The cheeseburger was delicious as well -- seasoned ground beef, onion and cheese inside. Both are certainly on our list to get again. I also bought some beef pasty to try. These are a treat for our family - and I hope they are as good as the pies. Looking forward to trying the spicy chicken, chicken & mushroom and lamb... (the latter isn't always available and is an off the menu item - but you can call a day or so ahead and ask if you can order them.) Vegetarian items are also on the menu. Super friendly family - I sure hope they stay around for a long time. Go check them out! read more

I've driven by here a million times and always just assumed it was a pizza joint. I finally decided to stop in and boy am I happy I did. I went in with the intention of just picking up a menu to look over but after chatting with the friendly and helpful staff I ended up walking out with 2 meat pies. I got the chicken peri peri and the cheeseburger meat pie. The chicken peri peri was very delicious and had a little bit of a kick to it, the cheeseburger pie was exactly how it sounds, a cheeseburger in a pie, both were very good and I'll definitely be going back. read more

Pie Boss is a great lunch spot. The pies are delicious. They are all freshly hand made. The Montgomery road location has a very small dining area. They have most of the pies made fresh in a display but you can order a baked one that takes 30 minutes. I plan on returning for more lunches. read more

This place is the best! If you are looking for something unique and delicious, check out Pie Boss. Even if you don't live in the area, it is worth taking a trip to! I have been coming here for a couple years and have never been disappointed. This is a locally run business, and the owners/employees are wonderful and genuinely nice people. The restaurant is always clean and well maintained. You can eat in the small dining area or take your pies to go. I have enjoyed every single pie that I have tried here. They have a unique array of spices and flavors. My favorites are the beef pepper steak, chicken and mushroom, and spinach and feta. Sometimes the owners have limited time new flavors or specials. The dessert pies, pasties, and rolls are fantastic too. The pies are a bit heavy, so make sure you come in with an empty stomach. If you have a specific flavor in mind, you may want to call ahead so they can make sure it's in stock and prepared for you. Additionally, you can order frozen pies to take home and bake yourself. Unfortunately, if you are gluten free or vegan, I don't think you will be able to find anything to eat here. I think the reason though is because the owners want to keep the pies as authentic and tasty as possible. read more

I've been dining at Pie Boss for two years off and on. Food is amazing and it is a family owned restaurant. I've tried several different pies and each one of them was delicious. I recommend starting with the Pepper Steak pie for newbies and then trying whichever one you are feeling adventurous side finds appetizing. Price is very reasonable and they even have take home pies you can bake yourself! read more

Delicious! Tried a delectable assortment. All were fantastic. I'm still particularly craving the chicken mushroom and vanilla custard. Yummmmm! read more

The spicy vegetable pies are the BEST!!! Be sure to call ahead so they can always have your pies hot and ready for pick up ^_^

Great service, food and always welcomed. The lies are delicious. The owner is amazing and the food is amazing.

Good pies, especially the 'spicy' ones. The guy at the counter was not as courteous as expected. Would be good if they had salads as well. The size of the dessert pies was pretty small. Generally, You need to call ahead and order the pies, since it takes awhile to make them. read more

OMG! That's what my mouth said when I ate my first bite of their sausage roll! next, I tried the custard and nearly drowned in my mouth from the flavor. The crust is to die for on all their items. Super friendly owner and workers. Oh yes, and I can't forget the smell of yumminess when I walked through the door! Can't wait to go back and order more.
