We really like Nando's. Of the growing number of Peri-Peri Chicken places around Chicago, we like Nando's the best. Unfortunately for us, there isn't one within 1/2 hour of us, so going to Nando's is either for special occasions or if we're in the area anyway. It was the latter for this visit. We went at an off-hour so there was only one other table with people there. The manager waited on us - he was really great to work with. We knew what we wanted but he pointed out some other things on the menu and discussed the drink options (there are so many). I had the 1/2 chicken and cole slaw. It was too large for me to eat all of it on this visit, but I think it was smaller than the last time we were there. I think their prices are the same which must mean with the inflation we've experienced recently, they may be cutting portion size rather than raising their prices. I ordered it medium hot, which in the past had been plenty hot for me. I don't think they put a lot of sauce on it - it was a little bland. But they have all of their variety of sauces out and available for you to take back to your table. I tried both the medium and hot (they have extra and extra-extra hot...). Placed an Uber eats order at this Nando's location. They left half my order out the bag. I called and spoke to the manager and he said the person making my order may have been overwhelmed. It was my very first time at Nando's (recommended for dinner by my husband), the overall taste was pretty good surprisingly. I think their pineapple lemonade is out of this world delicious! Super refreshing and tasteful and not like extremely sweet as other lemonades out there. Shockingly the extra hot sauce wasn't that hot to me. The corn was sweet and charred and had great texture. This place was amazing!!! This was my first time at Nando's but will NOT be my last! I started out slightly confused as I thought it was a fast food place and it kinda is. They sat me as though it was a full service....however they have a QR code(and a main register if you don't want to use the QR code) to order your food. After a small wait you will have your order brought to you! Everyone was so kind and helpful! The food: I got the boneless breast with medium sauce, garlic bread and fries and a side of ranch everything was hot fresh and delicious! They also had a wall or extra sauces that I tried a few. You'll have to find one that catches your eye but they were delicious as well! The ambiance: the location looked modern and clean tables were not left dirty for very long. Enough workers were walking around asking if anyone needed anything and how everything was. There was also someone standing by the entrance welcoming people and hiding them farewell. THE SPICE IS RIGHT Nando's sauces have plenty of distinctive 'kick', thanks to African Bird's Eye chili peppers. What to say about this well-liked chicken place that I haven't already covered? I've been to this location on the upper level of Oakbrook Mall thrice, not counting dozens of trips to the Nando's in downtown Naperville and Oak Park. Most recently, I stopped in with my wife and kids on Labor Day weekend. The 1/4 chicken ($14 with side + drink) always smacks, especially when brushed with their 'extra hot' Peri sauce. The roasted corn I got was only partially shucked, the kernels were discolored, and it wasn't very juicy. From now on, I'm sticking with redskin mashed potatoes. Their fries with Peri chips and Perinaise (house fries w/special mayo) are delicious. We'll gladly pay the $1 upcharge for that little tub of mayo! After you place your order at the register and take a rooster placard to your table, a server will bring out your food, but you're responsible for getting your own drinks/refills and silverware. The indoor dining area has nice ambiance and the outdoor patio is breezy. Bathrooms are clean and feature the same style of South African décor. That brings me to the Great Nando's Conspiracy Theory--the belief that their 'medium' is spicier than the 'hot' (or even 'extra hot'). I've sampled every single condiment they offer, and I can definitively say that their 'hot' / 'extra hot' are intense but localized, while 'medium' coats the tastebuds, lingers for longer, and has a distinct "holy crap am I sweating??" effect. Yeah, the heat scale seems off. My wife pointed out that the manager was the same guy who hosted the Yelp event here some years ago, that was nice to see. He graciously exchanged my 22oz diet Coke bottle for a fountain drink, which is what I'd requested in the first place. The music here is excellent, mad props to DJ Nando or whomever selects their tunes! * TL;DR * As a self-professed "sauce guru", I appreciate all the unique flavors one can apply to their chicken when dining at Nando's. Fun fact: there's a difference between their marinades (brushed on the chicken during cooking) and dipping sauces (the tall bottles with stainless steel pour spouts). Apparently, Nando's dipping sauces are all hotter than in-kitchen marinades, and the 'extra hot' marinade is the same as the 'hot', just basted twice. For those who would rather taste more meat and less heat, I'd recommend the lemon & herb sauce, mango & lime, or garlic. The chicken is high quality and the sides are tasty, but depending on the season, the roasted corn can be a roll of the dice. Nando's is a solid lunch stop or dinner destination for anyone shopping at Oakbrook Mall, I very much recommend them. read more

I was so excited to try Nando's restaurant as we don't have one locally in my hometown. I loved the vibe of the restaurant. It was dimly lit and the menu although simple was able to please everyone in our party. My chicken was perfectly cooked and I enjoyed all of the sauces that were there for me to try. I really hope they put one in our area. The service was also excellent. Everyone was attentive and cared about the needs of the patrons . When we arrived around dinner time on a Thursday night, this place was nearly empty however they had a wait just to get a table and hardly any staff. This was one of the worst experiences i have had. we stopped in and placed our order at 5:15pm we didn't receive our food till 6pm. Our food was cold. mashed potatoes were crunchy on the top from all the air hitting it and the fries were hollow. we watched other customers stand and wait just as long for their dine in order or their online take out. we watched the manager stand and stare at the ticket screen and do nothing. tables were full of dishes. people were not being seated because there was so much chaos. the two younger guys that were supposed to be seating people were sipping on lemonade behind the counter. to really top it all of there was a delivery driver waiting for food well behind the line entering the "kitchen" area flinging snot with a sneeze all over the to go boxes. I chose the Peri Chicken Bowl which was shredded Chicken on top of Portuguese rice with Hummus ,Arugula , Red Peppers and Corn. My husband chose a chicken breast with hot sauce as his bowl protein. So tasty and we thought the Hummus was very high quality . One can chose to supplement their bowl with a variety of sauces from a sauce counter inside restaurant . We ended the healthy delish dinner with a Portuguese Custard called Naughty Nata. The custard tart was warm and perfectly flaky with a hint of Cinnamon. Very good meal. Portions are on the light side so if you are a hearty eater you may want to supplement with some sides. read more

Let me preface by saying I ate at Nando's multiple times while in Malaysia and it was my FAVORITE restaurant. That said, you cross an ocean, it's not going to be the same and it's been several years since I hadn't been able to convince people to make a trip with me to Chicago to try it. Anyways, the spirit of Nando's is alive and well in this restaurant, with their bright, colorful decor that I love. We got seated right away and looking at the menu you notice the fun option of choosing your level of spicy with the Peri Peri sauces (I'm a lemon and herb girl since I don't like spicy). I got the wings, Portuguese rice, and fries. Sad to see wedges are no longer an option and there's no boneless wing option. The chicken was pretty juicy, but I would've like them to be more saucy (like marinating in that sauce, I know you can get extra sauce). Still the food was wonderful and I cleaned my plate. So happy to have Nando's in the US, but let me recommend everybody to travel to Asia for an even greater Nando's experience. read more

This is a great fast service restaurant within the Oak Brook shopping center, on the second level right next to AMC. There's a good amount of seating inside and outside. The staff inside were all friendly. We ordered first and then sat down. The food came out quickly, and was very flavorful. The chicken itself was very delicious and fresh. After years on seeing Nandos places I have never been until recently and I loved it! Met a friend for dinner, she had a chicken sandwich which loved and I had some chicken pieces and they were SO GOOD. What really made me fall in love was the desert. If you want to taste the most beautiful thing in the world, I recommend the Portuguese custard bite. It smelled as good as it looked too! I am very impressed with the flavors of the food and Perinaise sauce! You will see the name of the restaurant on the outside of the parking garage, it is near the movie theater. Park in the garage and take the escalator to the top floor. This is a really great restaurant to impress a date! The lights were dim, there is music playing softly in the background and there is plenty of space in between tables. Zerrell was the first person who greeted us at the counter! He was very kind and gave us great recommendations! Since my husband came along with me, we also ordered two of the Peri Peri Chicken Tender bowls! The tenders were so juicy and tender and had the perfect amount of seasoning! I loved the rice it was very filling and cooked to perfection! The next time I come I am going to try the wings! They look so good! It is really hard to just pick one entree off the menu! Been pretty obsessed with Nando's since studying abroad in England while in college. They don't have Nando's in my home state, so I was ecstatic to see one near the hotel I was staying at while in town for a wedding. Their garlic peri peri sauce is just perfection. I always get a chicken sandwich and add halloumi cheese-- don't sleep on the halloumi! It adds a nice nutty flavor and bouncy texture. This location has a cute outdoor patio. First impression: I thought this was a fast food place, like a "chip shop" but it was more reminiscent of a Buffalo Wild Wings/Potbelly's/Panera. You place your order at a counter or waitstaff is there to help. The dining room was very open and spacious. At the time, there were maybe 3-5 tables of diners. There were many people working and two different employees helped me with the menu and my order. They had some specialty adult beverages "on tap" for around $8. I went with a mango chicken wrap and the mac & cheese, per recommendation. They were good.... nothing mind-blowing (as I anticipated); however, I may have had my expectations much too high. My meal, drink, and tip was $25 - which I thought was on the expensive side considering the quality and quantity of food. Employees and cleanliness was 5 stars!! I know that the food would be much better in England, where they enforce stricter regulations and must locally source many food items. I would not hesitate to try Nando's again in another country, but I am not going to go out of my way to eat at this chain again in America. No matter what Nando's branch you go to their chicken will always hit the spot! 1/2 chicken is juicy as every. Both the thigh and breast were so tender and well marinated. Staff are always nice and feels like they are welcoming you into a new culture. When you step into the restaurant you are greeted by the dazzling display of South African/Portuguese decorations and interior. Just a smoked flavored chicken quarter. Chicken leg was juicy but that's about it. I tried the garlic and lime sauce and I didn't really care for it. Sauce was pretty salty. Maybe I picked the wrong sauce? But I wouldn't go back just to try a different sauce. Chicken was just ok and fries is fries. OMG GOOD cannot describe the meal I shared with my wife. We stopped for lunch and enjoyed our meals with great foods. I gave my wife the lighter dish and I ordered the chicken bowl. Mine had special rice, hummus, arugula and chicken pieces. The meal was very good and tender and juicy chicken. I ordered with medium heat level and it was perfectly seasoned, I did grab a sample of the hotter sauce and did add to my meal, just right for temperature. Try the hot sauce, before you get into trouble, you can always add more. My wife, Sheryl had the plainly seasoning quarter chicken with fries. She really enjoyed the spices on the fries and chicken skin too. The Manager was Alan and he gets our vote also. He welcomed us into the restaurant and served our food to boot. It looks like Nando's is a big hit at the mall. When we walked in, it was full of people but we were able to grab a table. After you get seated, you scan the barcode then order your food. Food will come shortly. In the meantime, they'll give you your cups to fill. At that same table, there are silverware, napkins, straws, and a sink to wash your hands. We ordered lemon and herb chicken wings with garlic bread and honey sweet potatoes. We also got mango and lime chicken leg quarters with garlic bread and red skin mashed potatoes. Both of the chickens had great flavor, moist, and tender. Garlic bread was soft and crispy. Honey sweet potatoes were mediocre. I didn't love them. Red skin mashed potatoes were flavorful, just the right amount of salt. Service was great. I was here with my family and my new son-in-law's family, and I am so happy that my daughter recommended the place. Once you walk in, they greet you immediately, and they definitely take care of you start to finish. Let me say right off: they do not skimp on the portions, They feed the hell out of you.
