Picked up dinner last night! It was delicious! We had the better than pepperoni pizza. My husband kept saying that he wanted a PIE near our house. In between bites....he was saying he could eat this every day! Yes! He really enjoyed his pizza. I had the gluten free margarita pizza. It was also very good. We shared the Italian chopped salad. Disappointing mess! We chose this restaurant because we wanted an uncomplicated, not fried, crab free dinner. The reviews were good and the menu looked promising - FOILED AGAIN!! We arrived at the restaurant when it opened and it was super cute. The waitress was lovely and super friendly. So friendly that my daughter said "that lady is very nice." We placed our order and we had: Tomato and mozzarella salad - very good Kalamata Olive and Eggplant pizza - soggy gross mess. No feta cheese or onion to be found (which is ironic and I will get to that in a minute.) Margarita Pizza - soggy, but my kids liked it We were sitting at our table, waiting for our food and all of sudden my eyes started to tear and sting very badly. After a few minutes, I was in agony and asked the waitress what was going on. She said that they were cooking onions and that was why my eyes were stinging. It got so bad that we had to get our pizza to go and I had to wait in the car. A few minutes after I left, the restaurant started to empty out because everyone's eyes were burning. My daughter's eyes were irritated and another child was sitting outside rubbing his eyes. He may have been crying from the pain in his eyes. The staff tried to prop the door open to lessen the fumes. My hubby (who went to cooking school) spoke with the waitress and told them that the onions should have been prepared hours ago. The excuse was that they were "short staffed." The pizza at Pie was really very good. While not in the shape of a circular pizza pie, and more of the shape of an oblong rectangle, the pizza was still delicious and tasty. Only issue was they told us it would be about a 15-20 minute wait to take out and it was more like 40 minutes. Started our vacation in Bethany Beach with a trip to our favorite pizza place. Danny and his staff do a great job at welcoming and feeding his customers. The individualized pizzas are plentiful and the menu gives options for all, including the "build your own" pizza menu. We ordered takeout here and were pretty disappointed. My mom got an eggplant pizza and she liked the balsamic glaze on the eggplant but the eggplant chunks were super unevenly distributed. My dad got a pizza that was supposed to come with artichoke hearts and crab and instead of artichoke it had arugula. I got a margarita pizza and added sun-dried tomatoes and a bunch of them were really burnt. There was almost no basil on my pizza, the tiniest little shreds here and there. We all got pizzas with the tomato sauce, which was underwhelming, and they're more like flatbreads than traditional pizzas. These pizzas are GOOD! One is large enough for my wife and I to share. On different visits we had the Better than Pepperoni - great! and the Wild Mushroom - fantastic! Went on vacation in this area for the first time and so happy we came here. I have celiac disease and this is honestly the BEST gluten free pizza I have had so far (4 years diagnosed) Our server Ricky was fantastic. Something is wrong. My sister, her husband and I always like to stop in every time we come to BB. My sister and I are gluten free, so we usually get 2 pies, one to share, and another for my brother-in-law. But last week every time we stopped by PIE it was closed and no sign telling why. We kept calling and got the same recorded greeting from February 1, and we left messages but got no return call. We finally found it open Friday evening, and ordered carry-out. Pizza is a must at the beach. Having heard positive buzz around this gourmet shop in Bethany, our family thought we'd give it a try. We attempted to place an order by phone on a Friday night and found the line busy. Hungry for pizza and curious about the phone issue, my father trekked downtown to investigate. At the restaurant, he learned that Pie's phone system can only take one call at a time. If they're already taking one order, the line is busy and can't take another. My father brought home four pies - one meat, one crab and corn, and two eggplant. The flavors were excellent, but the baking across the four pies was extremely inconsistent. One eggplant pie was nearly underdone, with the crust soft in the middle. The other eggplant pie was burnt underneath, and the cheese was so dark along the edges that you couldn't differentiate between cheese, eggplant, and tomato. With the high degree of effort and inconsistency of product, we did not find Pie worth the investment compared to other pizza options in the area. read more

This place deserves five stars- good food, friendly service, affordable prices, generous portions, and kid friendly. There are a few pizza places around the area, but this has to be one of best ones. They also provide crayons and coloring paper for little ones if you ask. And they cut up the pizza in easy to bite square pizzas which made it easier to eat for my children. They even turned down the music in the entire restaurant without a problem when we told them it was a bit too loud. It got off to a good start with the house salad, which was filled with mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, red onions, and gorgonzola. Unfortunately, the pizzas failed to live up to the salad. Thee margaritas were basically just regular pizza, ie covered in cheese instead of topped with fresh mozzarella (what I think of when I see something described as margarita). A sweet little spot nestled in a former house, Pie's food is incredibly delicious though its name is a bit of a misnomer and the restaurant has far more character than its logo implies. The pizzas are oblong and generously sized, measuring about 7 by 16 inches, and have a thin crispy crust loaded with an abundant collection of toppings. The menu is simple in scope (3 salads, maybe a dozen pizza choices) but well thought out. We were impressed by the rich flavor combinations in the roasted eggplant pizza, where the kalamata olives melded with the roasted red peppers and offset the sweet caramelized red onions and eggplant. The strawberry rhubarb pie was tasty, though had more crumb crust than filling. Great ambience. Great for vegetarians and people who like sophisticated food. Surprisingly good for kids too! The service was excellent once it got started; nice young lady who was very attentive and pleasant. The pizza (that's all they serve!) is definitely several cuts above your average pizza joint fare.
