I consider Picone "Denton Italian" much in the way Komodo Loco gives me "Denton Japanese," & back in the day Mr. Chopsticks was "Denton (broadly) Asian." To be clear, I celebrate the Denton fusion; it's one of my fave things about gems like Picone & Komodo Loco- the cuisine cannot be found anywhere else. Picone's chicken cutlets = mind blowing. The Piccata is my fave, but you really can't go wrong with any of their chicken parms. Their menu is fairly simple - no Cheesecake Factory novel to read. Check their website because they change their menu frequently. I love that they do this. Many things are staples but I've never been mad for choosing something new. Besides piccata, my partner likes the smash burger. I love the burnt carrots. Their focaccia pizza was outstanding. We like the potatoes and the Cesar salad, but they're outshined by the rest of the menu so we rarely get them. My recommendation: get a chicken parm of your choosing & one of their specials. Then share with one of your peeps. (The cutlets are the size of your head). Now let's talk staff and service. I have never ever had bad service there & have thoroughly enjoyed all interactions with staff. I feel like everyone really likes being there & cares about what they do. Go in with joy and joy will be returned to you. Ambiance: You order at the counter when you walk in. They'll give you a number and you sit wherever. It's super-casual, kinda small-ish hole-in-the-wall in the best way. It's always been doing a brisk business when we've gone. Be aware that the back room can get loud because of acoustics so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to it. There is limited onsite parking, but ton of street parking all around. I'm visiting from Boston, and my mother-in-law offered to take my sister-in-law and me out to dinner. We wanted Italian food so I checked Yelp for recommendations. People seemed to love Picone, so we went! Interesting place. Small and casual. There is a counter at the front, and on the counter is a board which shows the menu. We were told we could take a picture of the menu with our phones, sit down and peruse it, or just go ahead and order. We ordered, were given a number card to place on our table, and the food was brought to us. MIL and I got the chicken parm, and SIL got the chicken piccata. SIL and I thought our meals were delicious. MIL said her chicken was overcooked and she didn't enjoy it. (She also didn't like that there were no printed menus, but she's 87 and likes things how she likes them.) The chicken parm comes with "Sunday Sauce," which they told me is marinara. To me, it was spicier than marinara, and I really liked it. The portions were very large, and I took most of my food home with me. I didn't notice if they offered desserts or not. In Boston we have great Italian food, and I hadn't found that in Denton - until now. This was surprisingly good food and I would definitely return. read more

I had been hearing about Picone for a while from my son who attends UNT in Denton and we finally went today. It's a modest building with a comfortable dining room that was bumping good tunes. We ordered wayyyy too much food because we wanted to sample some of the starters such as the burratta and the crispy potatoes. The bread that went w the burratta was awesome and the potatoes were insane! apparently they boil, bake and deep fry them and they put this delicious pickled aioli on top that made it really pop. My wife had their caesar salad and came away impressed. I had what I was told was their house specialty their chicken parm picatta and it was delicious. The cutlets were perfectly fried and the noodles were cooked al dente. Super nice dish. Will definitely return to try their smash burger. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone. read more

Customer service was really good at this location upon arriving the guy at the counter was very welcoming and explain the menu to us. He was also honest in the description of items and answering any questions that we had. My friend and I both ordered the Smashburger which comes with crispy potatoes and some type of fry sauce. Our wait was incredibly long for two smash burgers. That was the only bad part about our experience because we were super hungry however, it was definitely worth the wait. The Smashburger has two patties and has a great amount of sauce within the burger and love the sweet/salty pickles that I was able to add to the burger as well . It was well seasoned & not the heaviest burger, which I appreciated in the sense that I didn't feel gross after eating. It had the right amount of cheese and the sauce was perfection. Our crispy potatoes could've been less crispy in my opinion where I would've appreciated tasting more potato than skin. And I did feel like my portion of potatoes were on the smaller side. Burrata was delish! My fiancé described the Alfredo parm as tasting lemony almost soapy. The parm was nice and crispy though. I think what happened is they might have warmed the Alfredo sauce after my piccata bc after I tasted it, I discovered it resembled my sauce. He's not a fan of piccata so he had the chicken. The pasta was a little too firm for our preference. Wouldn't order either again but will try them again since after we left there was at least 10 parties waiting. Once you get over the lack of ambiance, the service (counter order) and food was great! The burger was very good. The potato a nice change from traditional French fries. The Tour of Picone was nicely presented. The chicken was a hit, lightly breaded and the chicken was juicy and tender. I followed them on social media and it's so interested in seeing the guys bring out a different entree option throughout the week. I got in here to enjoy the brisket macaroni and cheese and the smashburger with them side of potatoes. That I literally devoured before I could even get home. This one is a tough one - wonderful concept and service, but poor execution. We had come in for their Valentine's Day pre fixe menu so perhaps that played a factor. Hamachi Crudo - great concept, but not enough citrus granita, Aleppo pepper, or vinaigrette listed. Picone Denton did something special for my family and deserves this shout out. My mother unexpectedly passed on Dec 1 and we've been obviously struggling with the new normal. My mom was from Brooklyn NY, and though we are not Italian, her neighborhood was and because of that we had a tradition. Mom made Braciole for the holidays. In my life, only once have I ever seen a restaurant offer it, and that's Picone. Maybe because it is a family food that is either not cost effective for restaurants, or too personalized by family to please wide audiences? I dunno. But to me, its Mom...and for the first time in my nearly 50 years, it's gonna be Christmas without both. I saw them offer it as a special last week asked Chef Tony for the next time they're offering it expecting to watch their calendar. instead, he said "come on Saturday." He fed my family, and wouldn't take money for it (I hope the tip I left for the Coke I bought offset the food cost). One part Picone, one part love letter from mom - our family's hearts were full. So, Thank you Chef Tony, to the whole Picone team, I'm a customer for life and so grateful for the gesture. I kinda of like this place, and they have a lot of talent and potential. The menu rotates, and they use their feature in several dishes. My wife is a great connoisseur of smash burgers, and we have travelled all over for them, so that is what brought us in here. The bun was soft and mushy, and could've stood a little toasting, overly sauced, and completely overwhelmed the meat. The ratios were very off in a bad way. Too soggy. We also had a Caesar salad, which was very overdressed, and super spicy, and we didn't eat any of it except for the 1-2 bites to try it. The ambiance is a little divey, and very Denton, which was nice. There is a "quiet" back room, and the main floor which is a bit noisier with TVs and music. I can tell from the reviews that when this place hits, it nails it. I am just sad that they missed with us. We will be back for another try, but probably not for the smashburger. read more

All I can say is WOWWWWW. I just ate the most satisfying meal at Picone, this is the best food I've had in a while. Literally everything was perfect, they get a 1000000/10 from me. We ordered the Rigatoni with Sunday sauce with the Chicken Parmesean and the Brussels and potatoes as well. Picone is a small and unique restaurant. They run a small staff who are all super friendly and helpful, food service is a little slower but they cook to order and wasn't an issue for us at all. I tried the chicken Parmesan and burger. The burger was simple and really good and came with some fried potatoes that were super crispy and tasty. The chicken Parmesan was crispy and made with chicken thigh and comes with some penne pasta. Overall it was a really good experience and we'll be back! Give it a try if you're in the area. read more

I can't attest to the ambiance or the service because my husband went in and got it to go while I stayed in the car with our newborn, but the smash burger with the crispy potatoes and the Alfredo chicken parmesan were both really delicious! The prices are a bit on the higher side when you compare to the size and atmosphere of the inside (from what my husband said), but they are generous portions so you absolutely get what you pay for! So after my life-changing birria burger experience, I came back to try the Chicken Parmesan Pizza (another pop-up item), and I'm so glad to say it was (unsurprisingly) - FANTASTIC!!
