She originally wanted Olive Garden, but I always try to support local when we can, so I suggested Picone... and I'm so glad! We ordered the birria crunch wrap, smash burger with potatoes, chicken parm pesto, and a Caesar salad, and we literally left no crumbs. Every bite tasted intentional. The chicken parm was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with rich, flavorful sauce and melty cheese that didn't overpower the dish. The pesto added a fresh, herby richness that tied everything together beautifully. The birria crunch wrap was packed with bold, slow-cooked flavor, and the crispy tortilla gave way to tender meat and creamy, cheesy goodness. It somehow managed to be comforting and exciting at the same time. I REALLY REALLY wanted to love this place. I did not love this place. But I will give it another shot at some point, maybe I just hit it on an off day/week. We came here for an early dinner after the show at the planetarium. Seriously get the burnt carrot. It's $10, for 1/2 of a carrot, but no joke, it's worth it. The chicken pesto entree was okay, but they used some other herb besides Basil in the pesto that is just not my jam-- dill maybe?, chervil??-- I dunno, but it threw off the flavor for me. That said, the cutlet underneath was very crispy and all the bites without the pesto were delish!. I have heard raves about the burger, so maybe that is worth another shot?? The service?, not stellar, just bored and unenthusiastic at the counter and s-l-o-w from the kitchen. The carrot came out quickly, but the cutlet took about 30 minutes after that, and the place was nearly empty. And, sorry to mention this part, the bathroom was filthy. Checked Yelp for the best Italian food in Denton and it was quickly evident that Picone was a local favorite. We walked into the unassuming interior and were surprised to discover a very limited menu, starting with a burger and only a few Italian dishes. We ordered wayyyy too much food because we wanted to sample some of the starters such as the burratta and the crispy potatoes. The bread that went w the burratta was awesome and the potatoes were insane! apparently they boil, bake and deep fry them and they put this delicious pickled aioli on top that made it really pop. I've been going here nearly once a week since they opened up the store front about 4ish years ago. Next to Osteria il Muro, this is the absolute peak of food in Denton. Michael and the front of house staff are absolutely amazing, friendly, welcoming and extremely accommodating in any instance where there is a need for that. The food, like I mentioned, is absolutely top tier thanks to Chef Tony and his food crew. Absolute artists as chefs and the thing that makes you keep coming back as much as I have is the creativity and huge range of dishes that are constantly being rotated through week by week. Sadly for my love of this place and these people, I'm moving up to New York state so this may well be my last time here, but if there is ever a time I'm near Denton and this place is open, you bet I'll be heading here. Customer service was really good at this location upon arriving the guy at the counter was very welcoming and explain the menu to us. He was also honest in the description of items and answering any questions that we had. My friend and I both ordered the Smashburger which comes with crispy potatoes and some type of fry sauce. Our wait was incredibly long for two smash burgers. That was the only bad part about our experience because we were super hungry however, it was definitely worth the wait. The Smashburger has two patties and has a great amount of sauce within the burger and love the sweet/salty pickles that I was able to add to the burger as well . It was well seasoned & not the heaviest burger, which I appreciated in the sense that I didn't feel gross after eating. It had the right amount of cheese and the sauce was perfection. Our crispy potatoes could've been less crispy in my opinion where I would've appreciated tasting more potato than skin. And I did feel like my portion of potatoes were on the smaller side. I consider Picone "Denton Italian" much in the way Komodo Loco gives me "Denton Japanese," & back in the day Mr. Chopsticks was "Denton (broadly) Asian." To be clear, I celebrate the Denton fusion; it's one of my fave things about gems like Picone & Komodo Loco- the cuisine cannot be found anywhere else. Picone's chicken cutlets = mind blowing. The Piccata is my fave, but you really can't go wrong with any of their chicken parms. Their menu is fairly simple - no Cheesecake Factory novel to read. Check their website because they change their menu frequently. I love that they do this. Many things are staples but I've never been mad for choosing something new. Besides piccata, my partner likes the smash burger. I love the burnt carrots. Their focaccia pizza was outstanding. We like the potatoes and the Cesar salad, but they're outshined by the rest of the menu so we rarely get them. My recommendation: get a chicken parm of your choosing & one of their specials. Then share with one of your peeps. (The cutlets are the size of your head). Now let's talk staff and service. I have never ever had bad service there & have thoroughly enjoyed all interactions with staff. I feel like everyone really likes being there & cares about what they do. Go in with joy and joy will be returned to you. Ambiance: You order at the counter when you walk in. They'll give you a number and you sit wherever. It's super-casual, kinda small-ish hole-in-the-wall in the best way. It's always been doing a brisk business when we've gone. Be aware that the back room can get loud because of acoustics so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to it. There is limited onsite parking, but ton of street parking all around. Me and my brother and kids went here to try their famous burger , we got there around 845pm , my brother and his daughter ordered 1st , then when it was me and my 2 sons turn someone came out from back and said they were out of burgers so we could only get 1 , that was disappointing but I was like hey I guess it can happen so we order the chicken cutlets with Alfredo and pesto and we also ordered a cannoli . The person that advised there were no more burgers said to give us 50% off and I guess the cashier did not hear them bc our total ended up being about $90 which was pretty high , food came out and from what I saw the burgers we did get were good but not great , decent burgers but really nothing special , the chicken cutlets were good not great and we did try to pack up quickly bc it did seem like the restaurant decided to close early due to no more burgers so we got everything to go and as we were leaving we realized we never received the cannoli , which was fine bc at this point we just wanted to go home so we asked for the refund and they said no we will make it so we had to wait 5 more min just so they wouldn't have to refund us $8 for the single cannoli which once we got it was also nothing special. I say service wasn't that great bc we didn't get the discount for the inconvenience of not being able to get the burgers for everyone and for not receiving our dessert on time and really no one we overly nice nor really mean or rude but just like the food it was just okay , was it worth the money , not really , would I go again , not really but that's just my experience and maybe you will have something better . read more

I followed them on social media and it's so interested in seeing the guys bring out a different entree option throughout the week. I got in here to enjoy the brisket macaroni and cheese and the smashburger with them side of potatoes. That I literally devoured before I could even get home. I'm visiting from Boston, and my mother-in-law offered to take my sister-in-law and me out to dinner. We wanted Italian food so I checked Yelp for recommendations. People seemed to love Picone, so we went! Interesting place. Small and casual. There is a counter at the front, and on the counter is a board which shows the menu. We were told we could take a picture of the menu with our phones, sit down and peruse it, or just go ahead and order. We ordered, were given a number card to place on our table, and the food was brought to us. MIL and I got the chicken parm, and SIL got the chicken piccata. SIL and I thought our meals were delicious. MIL said her chicken was overcooked and she didn't enjoy it. (She also didn't like that there were no printed menus, but she's 87 and likes things how she likes them.) The chicken parm comes with "Sunday Sauce," which they told me is marinara. To me, it was spicier than marinara, and I really liked it. The portions were very large, and I took most of my food home with me. I didn't notice if they offered desserts or not. In Boston we have great Italian food, and I hadn't found that in Denton - until now. This was surprisingly good food and I would definitely return. read more

I kinda of like this place, and they have a lot of talent and potential. The menu rotates, and they use their feature in several dishes. My wife is a great connoisseur of smash burgers, and we have travelled all over for them, so that is what brought us in here. The bun was soft and mushy, and could've stood a little toasting, overly sauced, and completely overwhelmed the meat. The ratios were very off in a bad way. Too soggy. We also had a Caesar salad, which was very overdressed, and super spicy, and we didn't eat any of it except for the 1-2 bites to try it. The ambiance is a little divey, and very Denton, which was nice. There is a "quiet" back room, and the main floor which is a bit noisier with TVs and music. I can tell from the reviews that when this place hits, it nails it. I am just sad that they missed with us. We will be back for another try, but probably not for the smashburger. read more

Picone Denton did something special for my family and deserves this shout out. My mother unexpectedly passed on Dec 1 and we've been obviously struggling with the new normal. My mom was from Brooklyn NY, and though we are not Italian, her neighborhood was and because of that we had a tradition. Mom made Braciole for the holidays. In my life, only once have I ever seen a restaurant offer it, and that's Picone. Maybe because it is a family food that is either not cost effective for restaurants, or too personalized by family to please wide audiences? I dunno. But to me, its Mom...and for the first time in my nearly 50 years, it's gonna be Christmas without both. I saw them offer it as a special last week asked Chef Tony for the next time they're offering it expecting to watch their calendar. instead, he said "come on Saturday." He fed my family, and wouldn't take money for it (I hope the tip I left for the Coke I bought offset the food cost). One part Picone, one part love letter from mom - our family's hearts were full. So, Thank you Chef Tony, to the whole Picone team, I'm a customer for life and so grateful for the gesture.
