    Indoor Self B.B.Q.

This is my favorite Thai and Chinese restaurant. I've been eating at Picnic Garden for about 5 years. The vegetables are always fresh. The way the chef seasons the food is outstanding. The restaurant itself is clean and well kept. If you go for lunch buffet, make sure you go early for best selection and freshness. You will have the best dining experience if you order off the menu. All their Thai Curries, Phat Thai and other noodle dishes, Chinese Broccoli with garlic sauce, and sliced fish in special hot sauce are all super delicious. This restaurant may be the only one in the area that offers an incredible "Hot Pot" and amazing "Indoor Self B.B.Q." which are dishes that many Asians that frequent this restaurant order.

We were there for lunch on a weekend and it was not busy at all. Looks to be a family run business. Service was good with only the lady and her daughter working the front. We ordered the Thai tea and it was a bit too sweet. The Tom Yum noodle soup was good but also a bit on the sweet side compared to what I've had in other restaurants. But I do like it though. Tastes more like the Vietnamese version. The chicken curry puffs were good with the sweet and sour dipping sauce. Though a bit pricey with only 3 puffs for $8. Also curry flavor could have been a bit stronger. We will have to go back to try more off their menu. We would have liked to order the Mango and sticky rice dessert too but we were too full this time.

My aunt wanted me to take her to a Thai restaurant that I had taken her once in Latham NY. I told her I've found a better spot, let's go and there we were. This time we ordered a couple of items from The specials menu which included khao soi and wings to go with cherry chicken, padhai and butterfly shrimp. I would probably say this is my new go to thai spot In the capital region. They have amazing deals on the lunch specials and the food tasted better than the deals. Few tips, you can never see the specials board, but it's near the cash register. Service may be a little slower when it gets busy as there's only one person that's managing upfront. I have been satisfied with the food, service and ambience.

Tamarind Thai in Latham is one of my favorite Thai restaurants!…read more There are several dishes that are already "accidentally vegan" meaning it is a plant-based meal that doesn't include any animal products like eggs, butter, dairy milk, seasoning or sauces made from seafood or mollusks. Their curry dishes are all accidentally vegan, and you can keep them vegan when you add a protein by choosing either steamed or fried tofu. The staff is so polite and extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes and can help you customize your meals if you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten intolerant, or have any other food sensitivities. On this visit they were decorated for the holidays. Beautiful red, silver, and white balls hung from the ceiling, string lights, pine garland, and a flocked Christmas tree in the front window all made the restaurant cozy and inviting. I had the curry fried rice with spring rolls and unsweetened iced tea and my husband had the hot vegetables entree with white rice and a side of sticky rice.

Many people get take out from here which I will admit, we have done twice but we really enjoy dining in at the restaurant because it's fun. The staff is really nice and extremely helpful. When we say vegan they know what we mean which is difficult sometimes because a lot of people have misconceptions about what that entails. You have to think about what ingredients the noodles were made with, do they contain egg or not. What sauces are traditionally used, is it a fish sauce? Is something cooked with butter? So just saying no meat, eggs, or dairy doesn't always make people think about everything but this restaurant gets it. Also people ask well what about gluten? It has nothing to do with being vegan it is related to having celiac disease. Bottom line, if you have food allergies or sensitivities, they know what is in their food and they will tell you or offer suggestions to help you out. The spring rolls, the gyoza, the crazy noodle (drunken noodle), curry rice, fresh rolls, all of it has been good everytime we go. This review is long overdue, Tamarind is just so good if you need vegan or vegetarian options they have a lot of plant-based menu items. The unsweetened iced tea, that's my jam! Love it!

We usually get some kind of stir fry and a curry dish. The food is fresh and delicious. I like spicy food but anything at the spicy level is usually too hot for me. This is a case of don't judge a book by its cover. The outside of the building could use a bit of work. Inside, it's not a very big restaurant. The decor is simple, but the aromas from the food being cooked are fabulous. I arrived for lunch with a friend on a weekday. The young man who greeted us served as both the waiter and the host. I ordered a chicken Penang Curry. I realize the restaurant doesn't have a large staff. Still, it's able to get a lot done efficiently. Our server disappeared and came back with our orders a short time later. I couldn't tell if he also cooked our food and I didn't ask. There were two other tables occupied with customers. I have to say the meal By did not disappoint. I loved my Penang Curry. What's more, it was a lunch special which cost $10. Considering how much I ate, it was very reasonably priced. I've already thought about what I'll order the next time I come back. Can't wait.

Have had it at the Troy Farmer's Market & at the Student Union & for all their effort in making it, with 10 ingredients including mustard greens & bok choy, there is zero flavor. (Tried Chicken & tofu orders) The pad thai sauce needs some umami, fish sauce, tamarind? I'm not sure. Pad Thai is not supposed to be spicy, so I am confused as to everyone ordering it, & being asked a spice level. Maybe the spic covers up the non-sauce that the noodles are tossed in? I even trekked up to the student union to pick up lunch one day, and asked for extra Tamarind sauce. I got a dollop of brown sauce on top, that tasted like extra salty. Hoisin sauce. And then some more further down in the bowl. Such a disappointment, I couldn't eat all that salt, threw it out. Should I ask for "extra Thai flavor" next time? Really don't know. **Pad Thai is not a Spicy dish friends.** 2nd: Definitely go for: A Rice Bowl with -the string beans. Crispy with a kick of spice -the beets at the Farmer's Market. Never thought I would finish off beets, but this will convert you. I crave this! Too bad they don't have it at the RPI Student Union during the week. -green curry chicken is not bad. Spice comes on a little bit later. -The Mango Lassi is $4.(average since coffee & battenkill milk costs about the same at the Mkt.) A nice option to have, Mike said that it's made with rose water. Needs a bit more cardamom. -Had a nice to-go cold peanut noodle chicken noodle bowl from the RPI Student Union. They're now on a new remodeled floor at the Union, the menu looks smaller. Maybe it will take some time to build it back up, or they may not have the room for extras. -always fun seeing their homemade ice cream flavors according to the holiday. Very creative & fun chefs. Follow their Facebook for updates. So, too bad I had to average out my review to 3 stars for TMC, but the Pad Thai is very disappointing. My mother bought one & didn't like it either & she's more forgiving with food. Yet customers seem to really like it. Get schooled on Pad Thai at Sukothai in Albany folks! Or even Chom's Cafe In Troy.
