Will never go back. It wasn't busy when we went in, yet when we sat down the table was dirty so we got up and sat at another. It too was dirty as was another one across from us. When the waitress was asked - in a nice way, if she would wipe the table, she got a major attitude. Made a snarky comment and then made a comment to her coworkers which we could hear. We thought about just leaving at that point and wish we had because our Rueben sandwiches left much to be desired... including the kraut. I never leave reviews, but this was beyond bad. read more

Every now and then, one wanders into a place that is more enjoyable than you might have expected from its exterior appearance. Pickles plus is such a place. We went to this simple deli not expecting more than a quick dinner, but everything that we had was delicious and the portions were large. My wife had a corned beef sandwich, my son pastrami. Both were large and delicious. High quality cold cuts. I am on a restricted diet, so they made me a special chef salad with a large pile of corned beef on a large bowl of salad. It was the best that I have had in the area. The Cole slaw was great, not overly mayonnaise laden, almost more like a health salad. The waitress was friendly and efficient. There is outdoor seating if the weather permits. Not all of the baked goods are made on premises, but who cares. I will be back for sure. read more

Try this new York style deli in downtown Clearwater with speedy service!! I had a hot Joey wrap. This pickle plus favorite has grilled chicken, pepperchinis, lettuce, tomato, onion and melted cheese on a whole wheat wrap. It was served with a pickle and chips. I wasn't too impressed by these sides. The pickle was way too small and the chips were frito lays. Woopty doo. The hot Joey wrap was tasty though! Try it with a side of ranch dipping sauce!! Darla was our awesome waitress, plus everybody else was friendly and helpful. Both of our sandwiches were the best Kosher type sandwiches we've had in Central Florida - from Clearwater to Daytona Beach. The potato salad was the best in Florida. My Corn Beef and Pastrami Pickles sandwich was incredible, plus very moist with almost zero fat - and it was very tall. My wife's Corned Beef Reuben was great too. We went for lunch today. After St. Patrick's Day, I couldn't eat anymore corned beef, so I skipped a Reuben. I ordered the Egg Salad instead and I didn't care for it. It was just eggs and Mayoinase. Maybe that's the way it normally is, but I prefer egg salad with mustard and relish added, too. I don't think the food is terrible, but I just didn't order the right thing for me. My friend is Vegan, and this is one of her most frequented local restaurants. I ordered the Chicken a la Renee for $8.99 with mashed potatoes, green beans, and a salad. It's a great price for a place where you can actually get veggies! And, I had left overs. The garlic mash potatoes are more like homemade mashed potatoes. The veggie burger is legit too. We sat outside. That is a nice option to have, if you dislike chilly air conditioning. The server was very helpful. Meal payment is made inside at the register. There is plenty of parking. read more

I wish I could rate this deli higher. I've heard so many great things about their food for several years and finally had the chance to try it when it was catered for the company I work for. Unfortunately, the bread was so stale that nobody could eat it. I think the bread of a good deli sandwich makes all the difference, and I couldn't even tear it with my teeth. The service is as useful as the calories in the food. First, I asked if I needed to wait for a seat. I was told yes. So I stood at the front with my five year old for a long time watching two of the crack servers rush around while practically ignoring us. If it wasn't for them asking me to move I am certain I could have stood there all afternoon unnoticed waiting to sit at one of the three or four open and clean tables. After a while I asked again about the seating situation (really just wanting to get someone's attention and get seated at one of the many open tables) and I was told to seat myself. Finally seated, I waited for ten minutes before having to ask one of the servers for something to drink. She seemed both confused and dumbfounded that I would ask her for anything. She only brought two of my three drinks. Stupidly she told her coworker (in earshot of me) that she wasn't going to get my third drink. All three of them then started acting like disapproving and unappreciated caretakers with a mixture of dirty looks and generally unfriendliness. Way to go! I'm sorry I was not aware of the unspoken rule against that at Pickles Plus. Honestly the service here is a mess and is a disservice to the food: However mediocre it may be it is still leaps and bounds above the service. It astounds me to watch people in the service industry act in the ways described above. Surely this is reflective of the ownership and management culture of Pickles Plus. Get it together and work out the environmental issues in your workplace or fire your curmudgeonly servers. read more

Bar none, Pickles Plus serves up the absolute best hot Tongue sandwiches I have EVER had! It almost literally melts in your mouth. Savor every bite, even though the serving size is generous. Also, pets are welcome on a leash in the patio dining in front of the restaurant. That's my lunch pick. Pickles for breakfast? You betcha! The Slammin Joe comes with 2 of their famously delicious, plate-sized pancakes, 2 eggs your way, 2 sausage and 2 bacon strips and is a very good value for around $7. They're open for dinner, too, and I've heard rave reviews from friends of the Hot Joey Salad, but I can't NOT order the Tongue sandwich. It's too good to pass up. And if you've never tried tongue before, it is not awful to look at. They slice it very thin and it looks just like corned beef or roast beef. Just close your eyes and take a bite and you'll spend the rest of your life attempting to convince everyone you know that it's the best thing ever! Service is always terrific. Based on my most recent visit here, I have no choice but to knock my review down 2 stars. This time I went for Sunday breakfast with my mom. It was way too hot to sit outside so I grabbed a table toward the back and started to browse the menu. In the mean time, the server abruptly came by to get my drink order. I've had her as my server here more than once and have never gotten the "warm and fuzzy" feeling from her. As I was browsing the breakfast options on the menu, I wasn't impressed. Pretty limited for a deli type restaurant! After waiting a few more moments, my mom arrived to join me and we put in our order with "Ms. Friendly Server". That's when the gnat that had been flying all around our table really got annoying and we couldn't take it anymore. I looked behind me (near the open kitchen area) and realized there was about 10 gnats flying around right near me and the kitchen. Nastiness. We asked to move tables to get away from them even though the food had just arrived at our table. We moved a few tables away only to discover the A/C vent right above our table was leaking and dripping on the flimsy, plastic chair. Lovely. I scooted over a bit to avoid the dripping water and decided I'd rather deal with that than gnats for the time being. Despite the less than pleasant experience, we continued to eat anyway as we didn't feel like leaving mid-meal. The food was mediocre, it had a greasy taste and was nothing special overall. This experience was so sub-par... Between the food, service and dirty atmosphere, I won't be rushing back anytime soon. Many better places to choose from in the area who actually know how to present customers with a pleasant server, a clean environment and tasty, fresh food. read more

Holy cow! I LOVE it when we unexpectedly stumble upon a gem of a restaurant. We are from Wisconsin and were in Florida for a wedding and driving around the Safety Harbor neighborhood checking out the fiance's old hometown. We randomly pulled into a strip mall to park and open up Yelp to see some good food options in the area. Pickles Plus happened to be in this strip of stores and we easily could've driven right past it, if not for the good Yelp reviews and photos. Thanks Yelp! This is a small deli restaurant but there are several tables to sit and they have servers. Our server was so friendly and welcoming, I wish I could remember her name. What you get here are huge deli sandwiches, with tons of meat and veggies slapped between the softest and most delicious homemade bread. I loved the wheat bread. You can't not get pickles from a place with "pickles" in the name of the restaurant so we tried the fried pickles and they were soooo good! We saw lots of people ordering soup which apparently is homemade and the Matzo ball is one of the most popular. Unfortunately we didn't get to try it but with the quality of the other food we experienced, I'm sure it's delicious. If we find ourselves in Florida again, we will most definitely be making another visit here. read more

i had a totally disappointing experience here on July 4th. Had breakfast and the food and the service were simply terrible. I paid an "up charge" for sour dough toast. It was actually sour dough bread that had been buttered and waved over a heat source. There was no evidence of toasting. The grits were THE WORST that I have had in this area. The service was as bad as the food. Do not think our server gave a crap. My coffee cup sat empty for 5-10 minutes. We finally flagged down a server other than ours to refill my cup. Furthermore, I thought I would have to trip someone to get a check. I have had a few satisfying lunches here, but will probably not return again as a result of this experience. If the owner or a manager was on duty, they need to be more involved in the business. read more

Fantastic deli with premium meats and ingredients and very generous portions. Been eating here for years. They offer breakfast lunch and dinner but hands down best for lunch. You definitely pay for the quality and size. Average lunch is about $11-$13 per person. They have limited outdoor seating and offer beer and wine. Take out delivery and catering available. read more
