Cute little Italian place in the heart of Amsterdam. This was my first trip to the city but my boyfriend comes here weekly for work, and this is his go to place for a delicious but quiet meal. You maybe in Amsterdam, but you feel like you're in Italy. Staff was friendly. Food was authentic Italian. Wine was delicious and paired well with our food choices. We stopped here for lunch. It was quiet and peaceful. We ordered a funghi pizza and I had a house red. My wife and I shared a bottle of water. The water was from a Tuscan spring! The house wine was Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and very good. The pizza came fairly quick. It was thin crusted with plenty of mushrooms, cheese and sauce. It was very tasty. I like Parmesan cheese and was brought a bowl with serving spoon. All in all this was an excellent stop and lunch. read more

We found this place by chance, while on a late evening walk. The establishment was full and lively, and the owner managed to get a table for us without a wait. My wife ordered Pasta with Bolognese and I had the risotto with pine nuts, mushrooms in a white wine sauce. We find out quickly on why this restaurant was so popular. The food here was amazing and we had found our go to place when we're in Amsterdam. We returned a few months after and we were recommended to try the Lasagna. Walking through the mobs of crowds, we were desperately trying to find a restaurant without a wait that was at least decent. Italian food is one of those things that few people can disagree with. This place had acceptable ratings and a few tables left when we popped in. You won't wonder if you are, in fact, in Italy when eating here but the food is pretty good. To start, the four of us ordered two salads to share between two of us and I'm glad we did that because the salads are pretty large. For my salad, we ordered their arugula salad with parm, tomatoes, and olives. It was a simple but very tasty way to start the meal. For my main, I ordered burrata penne with a creamy tomato sauce. This was also very good. I don't know what possessed me to only take photos of my own food but I don't have any evidence of what my dining companions ordered and therefore cannot provide specifics but they all enjoyed their meal. I was really apprehensive wanting to eat in "the red light" district of Amsterdam. I don't know why, maybe because of the stigma attached to it. Personally, I don't have a problem with it, and it should be legal, but having dinner right in the middle of it, I wasn't sure. Now on to my review of Piccolo Mondo. When we got at the restaurant, it wasn't too crowded, but soon filled up by the time we left. (We seem to hit it just right, most of the time) We were seated in the back by the bar on what looked like a very long communal table. It wasn't, but there wasn't much space between you, and your neighbor. Waitress came over, and took our order in a timely manner. I asked about their house wine, and she suggested the "house" chardonnay. Do yourself a favor, and spend a little more money, and upgrade to a better "non house" wine, unless of course you like your wine on the vinegar side. Because the entree only came with baked potatoes, and a vegetable, I opted to order the Insalata Toscana, mixed salad. The salad is a good size portion with crispy Italian bacon, and pine nuts, drizzled with olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. I'm glad I ordered this refreshing salad, because the entree/vegetable portions were on the small side. We were sitting right by the dumb waiter which was interesting to watch. Usually when there is a dumb waiter, it isn't in the dining area of a restaurant. For the entrees we had the Lasagne Al Forno, with ground beef, béchamel, and tomato sauce, and Scaloppina al limone, (Veal with lemon sauce). Both were good, but not out of this world. My veal had a light breading which I prefer not to have when I order Veal, but it wasn't really to thick, and it was tolerable. The lasagna was bathed in lots of sauce, and lots of cheese . Cheese on top was definitely left in the oven just a touch to long. Unless of course you like burnt cheese. Nothing really looked that good on the dessert menu. We were going to order the Tiramisu for dessert, but because it was made with mascarpone, we opted to wait until we got back to the restaurant by our hotel and order the delicious chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. If you are in the red light district, and find yourself hungry for Italian cuisine, I would recommend eating here, but skip the house wine. read more

I had dinner here on 12/21/2022. While walking around Amsterdam on this cold, rainy night, I found this restaurant. It looked good from the outside and it's specialty was Italian. I entered and was warmly greeted and seated. I ordered the nightly special which was Spinach Ravioli Parmigiano. It was promptly served hot and delicious! I also had three glasses of white wine and desert. This is one of those places you want to go back too. I certainly will. Small place but we had a reservation. Heineken on tap. Nice wine selection, too. Great food. Great service. Had the chef's special pizza today as we like to sample pizza everywhere we go. Great crispy crust, mozzarella, Parma ham, shaved Parm cheese and greens. We ate the whole thing! Then we shared a truly delicious tiramisus! Sweet place with a few outside tables across from one of the canals. Although our preference was to eat inside, we had a great window view to watch people, bicycles and more. Everything being served looked wonderful. If we lived here, we'd be regulars! I don't like taking photos when I'm ready to eat, but I don't usually interrupt a dining experience to take pictures, but a photo would not have done it justice. read more

This is a modern space with authentic Italian food very close to the old town, just a short walk into the quieter neighborhood on its border. I enjoyed great service, great veal, a great caprese salad, delicious. A nice place for a solo diner, a couple, or small group. The owners and most of the staff are Italian, a necessity for an authentic experience. I did notice that there was quite a backup for the customers that ordered pizza. I placed my order at the same time as the couple next to me....and I had paid my bill just as their pizza was arriving. So just beware that the pizza can take a while when they are busy! Fantastic Italian at a great price Inna world class city. Everything about Piccolo Mondo was great from the time I entered to the time I waddled out. I decided on the foccicia with olive oil and creamy tomato soup as a starter and was not disappointed. Couldn't help myself but to dip the bread in before I inhaled the soup. My entree was a mouth watering medium rare tenderloin in gongonzola sauce and I didn't breathe between bites. Washed down with a delicious red labrusca and I was in heaven as I left the restaurant. Stopped at this charming little Italian restaurant because we needed food immediately after walking around all day. Luckily, the food was excellent. I had pasta with mushrooms. The pasta was cooked perfectly. My husband had chicken in pomodoro sauce that was also well done. We sat outside and watched the crowds roll by during what seemed to be "rush hour". Why I chose Italian when a week in Italy awaited me I do not know. But the atmosphere felt good and I needed something for my belly. My dinner was veal scaloppini. The service is poor. The waitress can speak english, BUT they forget to give spoons, forks. We had to eat spaghetti using only forks. They something special: fresh ginger tee and fresh meat tee. I recommend mixing those two The waiting time is very long. Drinks immediately, getting starters took 20 minutes, soups took another 20, the quality of soups were...without a taste. The main dishes took...30 minutes, we had to ask. The taste and quality were...slightly below regular. I'd strongly recommend another place. read more

This is probably the best Italian restaurant I have been to in many years The bread and olive oil was amazing. For certain the oil oil was spectacular. The garlic butter was amazing as well I was torn between the two. I ordered the veal in lemon sauce it came with potatoes and broccoli both done to perfection. I asked whether they have pizza margarita and they told they serve pizza mozerralla which is basically same. But it was not. The taste and quality was very poor. No fresh basil on top. You could find better pizza even in any fastfood pizza chains. read more
