Il Pacioccone is a cozy spot in what looks like a historic building. We started with the bruschetta and meatballs. The bruschetta was simple but really fresh--the buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes had a lot of flavor. The meatballs came in a light tomato sauce and were tender, not overly dense. For mains, we had the tagliatelle ragu and the pappardelle with mushrooms. The pasta seems to be homemade--it's got that bite and texture. The duck ragu was rich and comforting, with just enough sauce to coat the noodles but not drown them. The pappardelle was a highlight--big, silky noodles tossed with mushrooms that actually tasted like mushrooms, not just something from a can. The flavors were earthy and balanced, and you could tell everything was cooked to order. Service was relaxed and friendly, which fit the mood of the place. However, it was slow given there was only two people working. It's the kind of restaurant where you can take your time and actually talk to whoever you're with. read more

Excellent! I chose II Pacioccone as I was wanting Italian food and great reviews. I am SO glad I dinned here! I ordered the Tegliterri with Tonato and Fresh Burrata as well as the Lamb Chops.. and Lemon Spongecake for dessert. It was very good and flavorful. Completely a gem of an Italian restuarant. Run by a couple. Wife is the chef and spouse is the wait staff. The menu has a spunky statement that this is not a fake italian restaurant. It's truly an unexpected find and I felt like we were back in italy. My friend and I shared our three courses: antipasti, primi, secondi and dolce which were: a burrata crostini topped with lemon zest and anchovies, pasta and porchetta. the portion sizes were perfections. the flavors were simple yet explosive. we finished with a dessert of panna cotta and espresso. I chose the house chianti with our meal. my friend chose a merlot which did not taste fresh. I asked that we get a second class of the chianti for my friend. when we asked for a second round, the owner recommended doing the bottle which I appreciated. The restaurant is clearly popular among locals and tourists who are willing to venture to this quiet street. I hope to be back whenever I am back in Amsterdam. read more

This place is very good. Small with limited tables so you may have to wait to be seated but we'll worth the wait. There is only one person on the wait staff so if you are in a hurry go to McDonalds. Here you wait for your meal prepared for you. It's Italian so having a meal is not a rush. Have a glass of wine and enjoy the evening with your guests. Loved it so much we came back a second time. Food was good but service needs some work. The restaurant was not full. A few empty tables and the two girl servers were busy on their phone. Of course they forgot half our order, maybe they were distracted by their phone. Have wanted to dine at this restaurant for a long time. Looks enchanted from the outside, situated in a unique building with a triangular footprint, in a gorgeous corner of the inner ring, close to Singel canal and Central Station. The experience was thoroughly disappointing. Some of this I'll chalk up to COVID aftermath. There really was only one functional server, the second staff was just bussing tables and delivering drinks. And so my review takes the staffing shortage into account. Maybe the executive chef was off on the Friday night we were there. Maybe it was just an outlier bad night. I felt bad that the server was making the melon and prosciutto apps behind the bar and still trying to wait tables. And drinks. And the cheese plates. But my tepid review is really for the food. Anytime I go out to eat and the food I'm served is worse than what I could make at home I am disappointed. Why bother in that case, I think to myself. Pizza: the menu selections looked interesting. Maybe the 4 cheese was the wrong choice. Nice crust, yes, well proofed and baked. Swimming in grease though a layer of oil at the surface made a meal best eaten with a knife and spoon. Truly my gall bladder was working overtime to process this, and the monotonous cheese overload without any offsetting ingredients was daunting. I felt nauseous after eating half the pie. Probably should've taken a statin. Still feel it today a day later. Lamb ragout: I can summarize this by asking you to picture noodles (decent tagliatelle, homemade likely), on which you dumped pan fried ground lamb and cheese, with so much animal fat in the plate that a small mammal would drown in it like quicksand. It was impossible for my companion to finish. Not a vegetable in sight. Not an offsetting item to soak up the fat. Flavors were dominated by greasy meat. This may sound like I'm being harsh. Maybe tomorrow in a fit of guilt I'll take this down. But honestly Gordon Ramsey would have taken a bite of this and sent this packing back to the kitchen with a disgusted scowl on his face. Maybe this is just post-COVID. But I wish I could erase the memory from my brain. read more

First meal in Amsterdam... craving Italian. This place can be seen through hotel window. #1 scoped it out on Goggle. Yes Yelp not very useful in this town. Old school ambiance with real old school old Italian dudes holding court inside. The first thing we noticed a guy walks in with a basket full of bread. He speaks to the old dudes holding court then to single waitress at the bar for the front of the store. She promptly starts to slice into a loaf, then fills up several baskets. We get one and so do we he paisans. More folks shuffle in. I think. I looked up and the place once empty is half full. All I remember was that warm soft doughy goodness That melted in my kisser like those ol school communion wafers from catholic high school. Only 100 x better. We decide to share sliced ham and melon then each got a pasta dish. Mine, Bolognese, so I got a glass of red with it. With that settled, I commenced to pour olive oil and stole a balsamic vinegar bottle poured in a few splashes into a little plate. I added fresh ground pepper and salt. Took a slice dipped it lightly and poof... off to never land went I. I swear I was bouncing on cloud of pillowy warmness and Sophia Loren circa 1959 was pouring olive oil over my head. While Gina Lollobrigida, circa 1955, feed me dates wrapped in ham soaked in balsamic. The smoothing tannins of the merlot brought me back. Just in time for the paste Bolognese to show up. Complex, rich and bold, held tightly together by the perfectly aaldente home made Tagliatelle. Perfecto! Ooph. What a happy accident this was! I was craving pizza. They had none! What a gem of a small, family atmosphere restaurant. Every dish is a delicacy with indelible flavor. Nothing complicated, drowned in spices or ingredients. Just simple Italian magic, aided by inspired wines and like home-made desserts. High fives to Tomasso and his incredible wife Benedittina that actually produces the magic in the kitchen. I could recommend the burrata crostini with anchovies, the tuna pasta or the melt-in-your-mouth porchetta, but afraid you may not catch them, the menu changes daily based on whatever Benedittina finds freshest in the market. Extraordinary find. We came across this establishment on our way to Ann Franks House. After our visit, we were hungry and turned our thoughts to food. After much deliberation, my husband remembered seeing this restaurant full of people, always a good sign. So, we retraced our steps and the rest is history. The food was superb and the service friendly. We were a really demanding group of 6. We had the Burrata and tomatoes, the cheese was like silk. We also had the tiramisu , which was creamy.
