Another very nice Italian place in the little Italy street from Amsterdam. Don't expect pizza's here though this is a real kitchen! This very small Italian is always packed. In the open kitchen you can see (and hear!) the chef work his magic. The bread, the starters, the fresh home made pasta's and the secondi's are all amazing. They import a lot from Italy themselves, and you can even but a bottle of olive oil here. The place is full of ferrari signs, foto's of Sophia Loren, etc. It feels like a second home. Great for a nice romantich night out or a double date, maybe not so good if you go with more then 4 people, as the place is very small. Expect to spend about 115 euro for 2 persons incl a bottle of wine. Make sure you reserve a table! read more

Hostaria is an Italian restaurant situated in the Jordan area, the little Italy of Amsterdam. After reading the reviews, we thought we'd give this one a try. On the outside it doesn't look all too fancy. Inside, the tables are closely arranged; making getting up from your table quite a challenge at times. However the waitress was friendly, and the atmosphere cosy. I had the truffle tagliatelle, which tasted excellent, but sadly wasn't cooked properly; it stuck together. Same goes for the pasta with sausage we had. Maybe the secondi taste better, but I'm not prone to go check them out after this experience. All in all, good service, but for the pricing they might pay a little more attention to the food. read more

Best service I've had since arriving in Amsterdam. It's a little cozy, but if you're used to eating in New York city, you won't notice it. Definitely get a bottle of wine to go with your dinner. It's very well selected. And you simply must try a house dessert! read more

Little gem in the Jordaan. REAL ITALIAN food as it should be! Small and cosy with an open kitchen. The food products are imported directly from Italy by the owner who has an import business for food products and delivers to many other places in Amsterdam. The experience was one not to forget: high quality food and wine with lots Italian atmosphere! Don't look any further! If you can get a table go for it! Cozy ambiance, tight space, friendly service (our waitress from time to time would have a seat next to us as there was little space for her to stand comfortably!) and a nice, small menu with excellent specials made for an excellent Thursday night at Hostaria. They had just printed a new menu and had not yet put together an English version, but the waitress kindly answered any questions we had from the terms we couldn't make out. The porchetta was good, the pasta was even better, and the wine list is affordable. In spite of the full, tight space, we never felt rushed and lingered with a limoncello until we were ready to leave. One of those rare restaurants that manages to be bustling, casual and high-energy, but still intimate and romantic. A favorite in Amsterdam that I look forward to returning to! tl;dr: Cozy Italian restaurant tucked in a small street in Amsterdam. Great food, decent prices (prix fixe menu available), wonderful service. Went here with two friends on a Sunday night. It looked crowded inside and there was a 10-minute wait, so the waiter turned on the outdoor heater and we sat outside with a nice bottle of red and sipped while our table inside became available. We noticed a 3-course and 4-course prix fixe menu, so we all chose that. The buffala appetizer I ordered was a VERY generous size and delicious with ham and tomatoes. The lamb ragout pasta dish that came next was not the best pasta I've ever had but still very tasty. The shrimp secondi came with 6 large shrimp in a nice light oil sauce. Tiramisu for dessert because what else would you get at an Italian restaurant. The other little bites of my friends' dishes I tried were all very good. The waiter was attentive and they let us stay until they closed the restaurant as we sipped our coffees with dessert. Overall a wonderful dining experience in Amsterdam! read more

Pleasantly surprised by the restaurant... the chef is from Milan and the waiters are Italian.. although the staff and the owner from what I can see speak about 4 languages English Italian Spanish and Dutch.... incredible and confusing all at the same time... we ordered the lobster tomato sauce and the sword fish... both were excellent and made to order.. also they gave us a really good completely Italian dessert... read more

Cute restaurant in Jordan, the staff was very friendly although their english wasn't great. The cool part of this restaurant was that you could watch the singular cook at work in the kitchen. The pasta was great, especially the ravioli of the day which was a pear ricotta ravioli in a white sauce, but the lamb was kind of odd tasting. Would recommend sticking to their handmade pasta for sure. read more

Hostaria is a small Italian restaurant in the Jordaan, a small area in the city centre where the 'echte Amsterdammers' used to live. Now it's predominantly inhabited by yuppies. My girlfriend lives around the corner of Hostaria. I saw it had 4.5 starts, so we thought we give it a try. The waitress who worked there that night was friendly and the Italian chef was shouting about, which gave it a nice authentic feeling. We both had a different kind of pasta. This is why I only give this place 3 stars: the pasta was very, very sticky. Pasta shouldn't be like that and an Italian chef should definitely be able to serve a perfect pasta. That evening the chef couldn't. A week or so ago I went to this other pasta restaurant, Spaghetteria, which has far better tasting pastas. This review is solely based on two pastas which maybe is not that representative for the whole menu they serve. But these dishes didn't make me want to come back anytime soon to try some of their other foods. read more

I am hesitating between 3 and 4 stars so let's say it's a 3,5. My favorite part about this place was its location in a lovely street of the Jordaan neighborhood, far from the nice but crowded touristic red light district. I felt like I wasn't in a city anymore. The restaurant itself is charming too, long and very narrow. I especially liked the colorful tiles on the kitchen's walls. We arrived late and it was full but there was a little table outside where the 3 of us could fit. We also experienced the street atmosphere which was very pleasant with small terraces everywhere. The staff was friendly but extremely slow and at some point it can be annoying even though you have time. Now regarding the food, it was nice but portions were small and prices high. I ordered an octopus carpaccio + shrimps from the starter list (14 euros) and grilled courgettes as a side (4 euros). I enjoyed it but I found the price too high for the quality/quantity. The two others had pasta and they said it was good but they didn't have enough. However, we had a very nice evening at Hostaria so it's still worth a visit. read more

Really helpfull and nice staff. Great food, perfect taste. Cool thing that you can see the cook preparing the dishes. Located in the Jordaan. Little bit pricey though. But nevertheless we were (party of 5) seated fast, serviced quick and the food was really good. Oh, and desert was also excelent. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed the evening! Hostaria was recommended by a friend. We made a reservation for 7:45pm and reached at 7:35pm. The place was packed but the young lady took us in at 7:45pm sharp. Was a pretty packed table but what trhe heck! The ambiance was great. We (my wife and I - Anniversary) orderd a bottle of wine, tomato soup, the ravioli, and the Tagliatelle with italian sausage. The soup was outstanding, and very flavourful. The server mixed up the mains and brought two raviolis. We said fine. (One star downgraded!). But the Tagliatelle was very good. Topped off dinner with tiramisu and a cappuccino. The bill was reasonable. Gave a 22% gratuity despite the error: the service was slow, but very courteous. 2 ladies serving over 10 tables with around 40 pax. They were good! Highly recommended! Will certainly go again. On my last 2 visits, the food was pretty poor. Steak had to be re-fired twice for a customer who was heavily pregnant, prawns were over-seasoned. I have also seen and been subject to errors by the staff with bookings. Poor food. Poor service. I would stay away. read more
