Looking for a place to have lunch, we chose Ristorante Saturnino* because there was a cat. We saw a cat outside of the restaurant and followed it in -- our preferred method of selecting a restaurant. The cat's name is Tena, and she had been the resident cat for about 8 or so years at the time of our visit. We each had a couple of drinks (cider for my husband, wine for me), and we shared a Margherita pizza and penne arrabbiata. Both dishes, while very basic, were delicious. Delicious food, reasonable prices, good service, and a cat -- what more could you want in a restaurant? *I'm a little confused about the name. Nice Italian food. We came here upon recommendation from a friend. The tables are packed in tight but there is people watching to be had on the street. We had calzone, pesto and a 1/2 litre of rose. 3.5 stars, but I settled on 3. Located in a quite neighborhood only minutes away from the Rembrandtsplein, Saturnino takes pride in serving Italian food at a restaurant which is actually owned and operated by real Italians. That's a big deal. I tried the bruschetta and the Siciliano pizza. Awesome stuff. Saturnino loses points for having terribly slow service and for somewhat cramped seating inside. If they could work on these aspects, the quality of the food is good enough to make it one of Amsterdam's 5 star Italian cuisine offerings. read more

I went to get an early dinner this week and I did not take pizza but truffle tortellini. Well.. I have to say that it was really good. Black truffle is not the top noch of the truffle but is still great taste. I have to say that to get the truffle taste out the dish was quite salty.. but that how you eat it. Lot of cream.. and great tortellini filing!! The wine was a very good barolo... and of course.. home made cream caramel to finish... weeeeee... I gain quite some kgs but it was all good. Not cheap... but not even expensive.. ok :) By the way... they told me they have a new pizzaiolo... so next time I will try pizza again and let you know! read more

Wandered in here while window-shopping without checking any reviews first (did not realize Yelp had Amsterdam restaurant reviews). Started with the tomato salad, followed by tortellini with mushrooms and ham, and finishing up with a creme caramel. The food was nicely prepared and came out promptly. Probably my favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. I've been here at least once on every visit to the city. The food is always good, prices reasonable, atmosphere chic, the staff friendly, and service great. It gets busy on weekends and any high traffic times, so reservations are usually a good idea. read more

Saturnino was a "find" while in Amsterdam last month. It's located one block from the Flower Market, and for lunch it was perfect. We ordered the pizza - which was a thin crust with spicy salami. It had the perfect amount of cheese and sauce, and it was really delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant. If the lunch was that good, I can only imagine how great the dinner would be! read more

The best meal I have had in Amsterdam was at Satirnino last night. I started with a salmon salad which consisted of a plate filled with thin slices of salmon topped with an oil bases dressing with capers and olives along with red cabbage and greens. Home run! My entree was pasta with shrimp and asparagus in red sauce topped with fresh parmesan. The service was great. The atmosphere was great. The food was outstanding. Two beers, salmon salad and a pasta entree with shrimp was 36.75 euros or roughly $50 US dollars. read more

Cozy little Italian restaurant. The owners are quite friendly and service it prompt. They do a nice take away as well. I want to like this place as I really appreciate good service but on two occasions I've had the food here and it's mediocre in quality and taste. For example, mushy pizza with tasteless sauce, ham and ropey onions. Tiramisu however was delightful. Wish I could say better.... But I can't. read more

Very nice Italian is a nice little district of Amsterdam. Very busy on the Saturday night we visited, we just about managed to secure the last table in the place. We have the seafood pizza(clams, scallops, clams, shrimp and calamari) and prosciutto pizza. They were fantastic. Crust was perfect and nice and thin. The olive oil was also spicy and complimented the pizza well. If you are looking for local places away from the touristy areas, this is a great option. read more

Walking into Saturnino is like going to Italy, from the Chianti to the fresh antipasti to the hand made pastas. I've tried most of the menu and everything is just delicious and incredibly fresh. The meats are cooked to perfection and the homemade pastas are just amazing. The staff is friendly and makes you feel special every-time. I really like this place, though I will admit it can be hit or miss....we've had fantastic meals with fantastic service one night - on another, they got half our table's orders wrong (it was quite busy) and didn't offer a complimentary drink or something for the trouble, which would have made it less irritating. But our latest trip there was great - we brought some visiting friends and they were very pleased- we got the recommendation of the waiter of a mixed platter and it was amazing - service also excellent that night..... waiter-recommended wine did not disappoint either....if they have anything with truffles in it, order it! (if you like truffles, that is) The pizzas I've had were good and large, and the lasagne is one of my favourites.... I sometimes have lunch here (it's near my work), and there seem to be a steady stream of Italian businessmen who eat here, so that should say something.... read more

I have enjoyed Saturnino on many occasions and always tell fellow travelers that my favorite Italian Restaurants are not in Italy. The three finest are out of Italy and the finest of all, is Satrunino. Sebastian is a wonderful owner and chef and takes Italian food to the highest levels! His food cannot be compared with any other Italian restaurant I have ever eaten in and I've eaten in many! Ask Sebastian for some of his favorite Amarone wines... He has them and they are to die for! I am not a big grappa lover, but I will drink his! Smooth as silk!!! I was sitting on a plane and a gentleman seated behind me in 1st class mentioned he was traveling to Amsterdam the next week. I told him my favorite Italian place was in Amsterdam. Another gentleman next to him asked me where and when I told him Ristorante Saturnino he said: "Oh my God!! You know about Saturnino???
