The interior is cozy which adds to La Perla's exclusivity and reservation-only culture because there is limited seating inside. My friend recommended La Perla to me. When we arrived we were seated immediately, though service throughout seemed a little slow as they were quite busy and not many waiters/waitresses. We ended up ordering the proscuitto and margherita pizzas, both of which were great! The margherita was so fresh and flavorful - I loved the sauce so much and the thin crust. A great classic pizza. The proscuitto was a bit more elevated with parmesan and arugula, and was also delicious! It was almost a little too much though to the point where I preferred the margherita. Absolutely delicious pizza!! We also had the reypenear kaas baguette and enjoyed it. They had an olive oil infused with dried chili peppers and garlic on the table that tasted amazing on the baguette. The servers were very nice and we were sat pretty immediately. The pizzas come whole, so no slices here, but make sure you come hungry, they have a lot of good pies to enjoy. An aperol spritz to go with the pie is the right move in Europe, so get one of those when you sit down and enjoy. We did not have a reservation but we were lucky because another patron showed up and said she wouldn't be using her reservation so we got a table. The waiter was super friendly. We started with a couple of beers that were our favorite during our three week trip to Europe. We ordered a spicy salami pizza and a salad to split. The salad was very fresh and the pizza very tasty. Classic Neapolitan pizza served in a cozy tight space. I was surprised that the wood fired oven and kitchen is actually located across the street with the food runners traversing back and forth. The fresh buffalo milk mozzarella and the crust were the highlights. The pizzas we tried could have been more amped in taste with some salt. I love the fresh ingredients however so I will let that pass. Our server was great-quick with suggestions or refilling our wine glasses. I was SOOO hyped to eat some proper pizza, especially after reading all sorts of praise and great comments about La Perla. Man, was that a MAJOR disappointment. My wife and I showed up for our reservation at the pizza shop across the street when the actual restaurant is just a few steps away, so if you've made a reservation, go to the restaurant side! Anyway, the pizza looked great and the place was bustling and full of people and activity. Nothing but good signs everywhere, right? We ordered a margherita pizza and a calabrese di Spilinga (pizza as well). Maybe I'm just some uncultured American whose palate is too used to Americanized flavors when it comes to pizza, but I've had some authentic pizza back home as well and this was just insanely underwhelming. The margherita pizza was absolutely bland. I drizzled their spicy olive oil on it and while it made it a little better, I would've preferred if their pizza didn't need any help, especially given how highly talked about it is. The calabrese di Spilinga (tomato, buffalo mozzarella, 'nduja, oregano) also pretty much suffered from the same problems, but at least the 'nduja offered some semblance of flavor. Service was a little awkward/weird too. My wife noticed the others sat after us got their menus and had their order taken way before we did. We were getting sick of eating traditional Dutch food after 3 days in Amsterdam and a friendly local we chatted up recommended La Perla for dinner. We made an easy reservation and headed out around 9 pm. The restaurant is located down an alleyway in a quiet neighborhood, which already lends a romantic, undiscovered vibe. It's in the "Little Italy" portion of the Jordaan district. The restaurant atmosphere is modern and sleek. Europeans are very quiet diners, so it's not loud at all. The place is small with only a few tables. We were treated warmly even though we were obvious tourists. La Perla specializes in Italian cuisine and in particular, Naples style pizza. They have a nice wood burning brick pizza oven that cooks up some tasty pies. (The oven is located across the street, which is weird but cool! It's not technically inside the dining room portion of the restaurant). Pizzas cost roughly $10 - $14 euros each, which is a good deal considering their quality. What makes the pizza so good here is the excellent ingredients. According to the chef, they get fresh buffalo mozzarella delivered several times a week straight from Italy. Even the olive oil on the table is delicious. We opted for a classic margherita pizza and one with sliced salami (their version of pepperoni) with a fresh buffalo mozzarella appetizer. The cheese appetizer was creamy and pungent, with a drizzle of quality olive oil and a few greens for color and topped with salty olives. We also had a bowl of fresh olives for the table (watch out for the pits) that were delicious. The pizzas were large and fresh, perfectly chewy with a light, bright tomato sauce. There are also plenty of wines by the glass too. It's great if you can't agree on a bottle. Reservations are easy to make by calling the restaurant. They are required for dinner, but lunch is walk-in only. Don't be intimidated, they are super friendly here (and speak perfect English -- as well as some Italian)! read more

My family and I went to La Perla after taking a train from Paris that morning. We didn't have a reservation, so when we arrived we got a table and were told we had an hour and a half. We ordered bruschetta, which was different from what you would get in America, because the tomatoes were not finely sliced and it was not individual. We also ordered a margarita pizza and 2 other pizzas (don't remember the name.) My margarita pizza was good, not the best I've had but still pretty good. My parents pizza was good as well! Had to waste some time before our tour so we decided to get a coffee. We walked around for a while before we decided to have a coffee here. There was construction going on on the exterior, but were still open for business. We were the only customers in here, which was ok by me, we could sit anywhere we wanted. I choose a table by the window so I could people watch. As we were sitting there drinking our coffee the table kept wobbling. I looked across the street, and noticed that La Perla has a pizza restaurant with a wood buring oven. I made a mental note to come back. Nothing tastes as good as a pizza cooked in a wood burning oven. Side note: we never made it back. (Next time) Coffe shop had some kind of electronic music playing, which isn't my choice of music, but we were only there for a fast cup of coffee, which was a cappuccino and they don't give free refills. It's not like here, where they keep refilling your coffee cup until you tell them you've had enough. Barista was nice, but not overly friendly, and if I was in the neighborhood, I would stop in and get a cup of coffee, but it wasn't so good that I would go out of my way. read more

La Perla had amazing pizzas! And it's WILDLY popular, definitely the spot to be. Glad we found this restaurant, it reminds me a lot of caphill/seattle vibes but better quality and rich taste. We sat outside facing the street and even at 10pm it was really bustling and busy. Do expect a long wait- we stopped by an ice cream on the same street while we waited and had dessert before dinner but it was perfect to kill a bit of time. I got the prosciutto which was perfect, not too rare. Also ask for their oil dip idk what it is. A kick of flavor and slight spice, it's aamaaazing. Perfect and even with how busy it is the servers were 10/10. So friendly and takes their time with you. Ummmmmm....let's talk pizza. Specifically, La Perla in Amsterdam. It's on the corner of Tweede Tuindwarsstraat and Tuinstraat. It's a bit confusing...they have their take away portion of the restaurant on one corner and their dine in portion in a completely different building that's located across the street. Aside from our momentary confusion, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We sat at the bar. The service was decent for bar service. We started with the Burschetta but they also serve the most amazing green olives I've ever tasted. I love olives, but these little gems were smooth and buttery with the perfect amount of salty. MMMMmmm... I ordered the Margherita pizza which was delectable. Sometimes there's too much basil. This was perfect. The crust was thin and light, the tomato sauce was perfect, not too thick. Fresh mozzarella and a touch on olive oil. Tracie had the Carciofo. I didn't try it but it sure looked great! We finished off our meal by sharing a piece of tiramisu. It was so good. *** 4.5 stars *** I appreciate places that specialize in only one thing and get that one thing right. Here, it's pizza, Italian style (thin), and very reasonably priced. My local friends took me here on my last night in Amsterdam, and it was the perfect ending / last meal in town. I had the STRACCHINO E BUFALA (buffalo mozzarella, stracchino (soft and creamy cheese) and oregano) which was amazing. On my pizza hierarchy, this is not quite as good as the best pizza that I had in Italy (a very high bar) but pretty much better than any pizza that I've had in the US. It must have something to do with the ingredients, and in particular the cheese that they are able to source in Europe. read more

Pizza in Amsterdam? Yezzir! This is legit pizza period. Like would hold up against your fav pizza spot anywhere. We stayed in the Jordaan neighborhood and quickly learned we didn't need to venture too far for some of the best food in Amsterdam--Surinamese, traditional Dutch, Mediterranean, and ya pizza. And other bomb stuff. La Perla was near our hotel and came highly recommended (Yelp reviews sealed the deal). Wife and I shared two pizzas, both equally delicious. Crusts were cooked perfectly and the toppings all of the highest quality. Money sauce too. Pizza that hits all the check boxes AND in a cool, hip little shop. Noticed they do a lot of takeout too.
